Receiving the Holy Spirit it what happens at salvation. Once a man believes the gospel of christ, he immediately receives the indwelling of the spirit. Ephesians 1:13 [13]In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Romans 8:9 [9]But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 1 Corinthians 2:12 [12]Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. After the indwelling of the spirit, there's another experience known as the baptism of Holy Spirit, also the same as being filled with the spirit/or the spirit upon. It refers to the spirit within the believer finding expression. Ephesians 5:18-19 [18]And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; [19]Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Acts 2:4 [4]And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. The baptism of the holy spirit/being filled with the spirit is when the believer who has believed the gospel yields to the spirit now within him. This is accompanied by a visible manifestation, most especially utterance. All instances of men being filled with the spirit in the New testament shows that they either spoke as a result of yielding to the spirit, or performed actions by the holy ghost. 1 Like |

Truvelisback: I know the gifts and fruits are different. I was only citing them as an example. But they are both works of the spirit. I think the main issue here is how you are seeing the word "gift". The gifts refer to abilities and faculties, not like a present or something you have to pray for. If you want to get more information, just study the book of acts and you'll see. The holy spirit is not separate from his gifts, and the holy spirit is not separate from the believer. |
Religion / Re: Why Don't We See Many Christians Interpreting Tongues Like We See Them Speaking. by Harshirama(m): 10:18am On Oct 01, 2021 |
Truvelisback:How sir? It's obvious the gifts are the abilities or faculties of the spirit. If they are of the spirit and you have the spirit, you have the gifts in you already. It's simple deduction. Having however does not equal manifestation, which is why many christians don't. Same way all christians have the spirit and not all christians show the fruit of the spirit. |
Religion / Re: Why Don't We See Many Christians Interpreting Tongues Like We See Them Speaking. by Harshirama(m): 9:42am On Oct 01, 2021 |
Truvelisback: Let me explain. When Paul asked that question in the last part of Cor 12, the focus was on how to minister the gifts in a more excellent manner i.e to minister in love and in an orderly manner. 1 Corinthians 12:29-31 [29]Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? [30]Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? [31]But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way. So the question was more like a rhetorical question, i.e even if you all have these things (gifts of healing, prophecy, apostles, teachers), seek to minister the gifts in the best way. The best gifts there refer to gifts manifested with love. 1 Corinthians 13:1-2 [1]IF I [can] speak in the tongues of men and [even] of angels, but have not love (that reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion such as is inspired by God's love for and in us), I am only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. [2]And if I have prophetic powers (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), and understand all the secret truths and mysteries and possess all knowledge, and if I have [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains, but have not love (God's love in me) I am nothing (a useless nobody). Meaning operating all the spiritual gifts and ministry gifts without love is futile. On the issue of laying on of hands. What it does to help stir up the gift that is in them already through the power of God. It is similar to a situation where there is light but the switch is off, you can simply press the switch to make the light visible. But that doesn't mean there wasn't power supply available before. I have also laid hands on people for that many times. Whereas I didn't need to do so in some cases. |
Religion / Re: Why Don't We See Many Christians Interpreting Tongues Like We See Them Speaking. by Harshirama(m): 9:14am On Oct 01, 2021 |
Truvelisback: Having does not equal to manifesting. God doesn't force anything on anyone. Like I said, the gifts are abilities, freely bestowed. It's up to the believer to desire and exercise the gifts by faith. 1 Corinthians 14:1 [1]Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. [39]Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. |
Religion / Re: Why Don't We See Many Christians Interpreting Tongues Like We See Them Speaking. by Harshirama(m): 8:43am On Oct 01, 2021 |
Truvelisback: The gifts are not an experience for the believer. They are part of the believer's nature. The gifts mean 'charisma' in the Greek, i.e freely bestowed, an endowment. 1 Corinthians 12:6-7 [6]And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. [7]But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man(every believer) to profit withal. Manifestation here refers to the revelation of the spirit of God during salvation. This is when you have all the gifts/things of the spirit. Besides, in 1 Cor 12:1, the original translation actually says "Concerning Spirituals". Gifts there is italicized in the modern translation, it was added to help the meaning. Spirituals= Pneumatikon i.e things of the spirit, things in the spirit, or things pertaining to the spirit. The gifts are the abilities of the spirit. It's like a Christian crying for God's power when God's power actually lives in him. So the gifts of the spirit are not an external addition, they come with the spirit. Just like it's normal for humans to walk and talk, the things of the spirit are for everyone who has the holy spirit. Prayer and fasting only help you to dominate your flesh and become more tuned to the spirit. Lastly, operating the gifts of the spirit becomes better with time and practice. Ask anyone who flows in the gifts, they will tell you their first time wasn't at smooth as now. |

Truvelisback: Boss, show me from the scriptures where they said there's a price to pray. Although I agree that praying a lot will make you more sensitive to the spirit. But the gifts of the spirit come with the holy spirit at salvation. The bible says he that is joined unto the lord is one spirit with him. So whatever comes with the spirit of God is available to you. The reason many don't function in these gifts is lack of desire and wrong information. Just like it is impossible to receive from God without faith, you can't operate in the gifts of the spirit well if you don't desire them or you have the wrong information. When Paul was writing to the Corinthian church, he said they came behind in no gift. 1 Corinthians 1:7 [7]So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: However, he still called them carnal some chapters later. So, that also shows that any christian can operate in the gift of the spirit. You can't call something a gift and claim you have to work for it. If you're a Christian, just desire them like the bible instructs and be observant, you'll notice them manifesting. |

Kobojunkie: 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 [8]For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; [9]To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; [10]To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 1 Corinthians 14:26 [26]How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. Lol, will you ask me to send my BVN and password too? They were personal issues I never told anyone. Truvelisback:There's no price for it. The only qualification is to be born again. Speaking in tongues and interpretation are what is known as prophecy. In many instances where people spoke in tongues in acts. They also prophesied. Acts 19:2, 4-6 and said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They replied, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” Paul said, “John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus.” When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, and when Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they began to speak in tongues and to prophesy. |

Many christians still interpret tongues. I have and I still do. Interpretation of tongues is useful especially when ministering to other believers. If you don't plan to interpret, then it's better to speak to yourself and God only, just like in 1 Corinthians 14. So OP, don't conclude christians don't interpret tongues. Many still do. I've had people tell me things I never told anyone through that medium. 1 Like |

Dtruthspeaker: Lmao, clearly you don't know bible interpretation. Paul neither referred to Hebrew nor Greek when talking about tongues. Jesus also said in mark 16:17 "they shall speak with new tongues" New - kainós – properly, new in quality (innovation), fresh in development or opportunity – because "not found exactly like this before. b. as respects substance; of a new kind; unprecedented, novel, uncommon, unheard of Now tell me what the tongues are, you're saying Greek and Hebrew. Just let go of your pride and receive the gift of God. |
