Celebrities / Court Orders Sowore’s Release by Haryourmieykhun(m): 7:41pm On Sep 24, 2019
Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered the release the convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, from the custody of the Department of State Service immediately.

The judge said the activist should be released to his lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), who is to produce him for arraignment whenever he is required.

The judge, however, said since charges had already been filed against the activist, he must deposit his passport and other travel documents to guarantee his availability for trial.

The judge had earlier stood down the case after hearing arguments from legal teams of Sowore and the DSS.

Leading Sowore’s team, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), noted that the order issued by the court on August 8, 2019 permitting the DSS to hold the activist for 45 days, had expired on September 21.

He urged the court to issue a consequential order releasing the publisher of SaharaReporters from custody.
But responding, DSS’ lawyer, G.O Agbadua, said that since the charges had been filed against the activist on September 20, it was lawful to continue to keep until arraignment.

But Falana said, “Filing of charges cannot metamorphose into a detention order.

“A citizen cannot detain a citizen in anticipation of arraignment.”

Earlier, Agbadua withdrew the DSS’ application asking for the extension of the period of the detention of Sowore for further 20 days.

Agbadua’s request for the withdrawal of the said application was based on the fact that charges had been filed against the activist.

Falana also withdrew Sowore’s application for bail on the grounds that the application had become academic since the order of detention had expired.

On the grounds of the expiration of the detention order and the withdrawal of the DSS’ request for further detention of Sowore, Falana urged the court to order his client’s release.

The judge in his ruling agreed with Falana by ordering the immediate release of Sowore from custody.

Health / Doctor Performs Abortion On Wrong Woman by Haryourmieykhun(m): 11:40am On Sep 24, 2019
A medical doctor in South Korea has performed an abortion on the wrong patient after there was a mix-up in the medical charts of patients at the clinic.

According to The Star Online, the police has arrested the gynaecologist and nurse, who aborted the six-weeks pregnancy on charges of professional negligence for failing to check the patient’s information before the procedure.

The police said that the victim had been prescribed nutritional supplements on August 7.

It was reported that when she entered the delivery room — where the hospital apparently also gave injections and conducted surgeries — neither the nurse nor the doctor checked the patient’s identity.

Confusing her for the patient on the charts they were looking at, the nurse injected the patient with anaesthesia after which the doctor performed the abortion.

The woman returned to the hospital the next day after experiencing bloody discharge and was told that the fetus had been aborted.

Abortion is illegal in most cases in South Korea.

Celebrities / Jennifer Lopez's Stylist Warned Her Against Wearing That Iconic Green Dress by Haryourmieykhun(m): 12:28pm On Sep 23, 2019
After Jennifer Lopez again broke the internet with a green, jungle-print Versace gown, the star is reminiscing about the Grammys dress that started it all nearly 20 years ago.

In an interview with Vogue, Lopez recalled having a fitting session for her Grammys dress on the set of "The Wedding Planner" in 2000, but she wasn't a huge fan of any of the dresses she tried on. So she asked her stylist, Andrea Lieberman, for more options.

Later, Lieberman presented her with three options: "a white one, a green one" and one Lopez had tried on at the last fitting.

"I tried on the green one and when I came out ... everybody was like 'That's the dress! That is the dress, that's what you're wearing. Let's go,' " Lopez recalled.

But not quite everyone loved the look: Lieberman said it wouldn't be a good move for Lopez because it had been worn before by multiple stars, including Sandra Bullock and Spice Girl Geri Halliwell. "Donatella (Versace) herself has worn it," she told Lopez.

The "Hustlers" star, now 50, stood her ground.

"I said, 'This is what we're going to wear,' " Lopez recalled. "I didn't think it was all that risque, to be honest. I was more excited that it was the Grammys. I wasn't really even thinking about the dress that much. I was just glad I had something to wear."

Lopez remembered being met with buzz that night on the red carpet and Grammys stage alike. The dress left little to the imagination, and it seemed others were worried a wardrobe malfunction was inevitable.

"It's nothing. It was all taped down," she said. "But that was the moment that kind of captured people's imaginations, I think."

Lopez closed out the Versace show Friday during Milan Fashion Week to much applause in a version of the famous dress that managed to show more skin than the daring original. It featured short sleeves and cutouts on the sides to showcase Lopez's toned abs.

"So this just happened," Lopez captioned a video of her fierce catwalk at Versace's 2020 Spring collection. She added the hashtags #stillgoingstrong and #20yearanniversary.

"In terms of my career, this dress really marked a moment in time," Lopez added to Vogue about the significance of her original look. "(Even if) you don't know my music and you don't know my movies, people know about that moment and that dress. That was it."

Sports / Klopp Braces For Test From ‘exciting’ Chelsea Young Guns by Haryourmieykhun(m): 1:25pm On Sep 21, 2019
urgen Klopp warned Liverpool on Friday to brace for a fierce fight with the Chelsea youngsters that remind him of the thrilling Borussia Dortmund sides that took Germany and Europe by storm.

Klopp, whose Premier League leaders take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, built a dynamic team in his seven years at Dortmund fuelled by gifted prodigies including Mario Goetze, Nuri Sahin, Shinji Kagawa and Robert Lewandowski.

He sees more than a few similarities between Dortmund teams that won the Bundesliga in consecutive seasons and reached the Champions final in 2013, and the way Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has put his faith in the Blues’s kids.

“It’s a really exciting team, it reminds me a little bit of my team at Dortmund years back when they were really young, even younger than this Chelsea team,” Klopp said.

“People always talked about how young they are but they only played because they were that good, they didn’t play because they were that young.

“They brought in Christian Pulisic in the summer and all the players around him have the same value –- Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, (Callum) Hudson-Odoi.

“A good team, all my respect. They are a proper contender for pretty much everything.”

Academy graduates Abraham, Mount and Fikayo Tomori have all enjoyed strong starts to Lampard’s first season in charge, with Chelsea’s transfer ban forcing their new manager to give the youngsters an opportunity that was hard to come by in previous years of big spending by the Blues.

Abraham already has seven goals this season, while Mount is hopeful of featuring this weekend after recovering from an ankle injury suffered in Tuesday’s Champions League defeat against Valencia.

– Blistering start –
Liverpool head to Chelsea having won all of their opening five league matches but with only one away win against top-six opposition in their previous 12 attempts.

Despite his praise for Chelsea’s young tyros, Klopp must fancy his chances of ending that frustrating streak against a team still looking for their first home win under Lampard.

Liverpool had their own midweek blip in the Champions League, with a 2-0 loss at Napoli bringing the holders back down to earth after their superb start to the domestic season.

But Klopp’s team sit five points clear of champions Manchester City thanks to their perfect start.

The Reds have already beaten Chelsea on penalties to win the European Super Cup after a 2-2 draw in Istanbul in August.

“There are different ways to win away games, we have to find a way to find one,” Klopp said.

“We go there to get a result, you can’t go to Chelsea and have a guarantee that you are going to win the game, they are just too strong for that.

“I think in 2016, we won against all of the top six and had all of the problems. Now we are much more successful in winning all the other games.”

While Liverpool have their sets sight on a first English title since 1990, Lampard knows Chelsea are likely to have to settle for a top-four challenge following the transfer ban and close-season departure of Eden Hazard to Real Madrid.

Continuing the development of Abraham, 21, Mount, 20, and company is essential to Chelsea’s progress and Lampard is eager for Mount to face Liverpool to further his education.

“He has got a chance. We saw the image of the tackle which made it look really bad. Hopefully, it is not so bad,” Lampard said.

“We are trying, the good thing about Mason is his attitude is so good that he will give everything to play for this club. We will have every opportunity to try to get him there.”

Sports / Why I Don’t Support Nigerian Football – CDQ by Haryourmieykhun(m): 1:05pm On Sep 21, 2019
usician Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf, popularly known as CDQ, talks about the similarity between music and sports, the Messi, Ronaldo rivalry in this interview with Solape Lawal-Solarin

Do you think there’s any similarity between music and sports?

Yes, music and sports have something in common called consistency. If you want to go far in the music industry you need to be consistent and break barriers, same goes for athletes. As an athlete, either as a footballer, basketball player or any other field, you need that consistency. It is what sets you apart from the rest.

Which two footballers do you think have been consistently at the top?

Just look at Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, both have ruled the football scene, they did so by staying consistent. It is the key word here and I have done so in a unique way. Everyone have their uniqueness that the fans crave for irrespective of their style. It is a big industry with a huge fan base, so you just need to be creative, do your thing in your own unique way and you’ll stay relevant.

There’s the Messi and Ronaldo leadership rivalry. Who do you think is the best between the two?

I choose Messi, yes, Messi for life. He is good, he is skilful and his dribbling is out of this world. I am not disrespecting CR7 but, really, I think Messi is better. This is just my own opinion.

Which club do you support?

I am a Red Devil. I support Manchester United. The 20-time EPL kings, it is not easy to be the king. And we have David De Gea too, a superb goal keeper.

But Manchester United have wobbled in the league ever since Sir Ferguson’s departure?

It is normal; we are just going through a phase. The thing is, it’s going to take a gradual process to rebuild Old Trafford and I think we’re on the right path. Just look at Liverpool, they are playing fantastic football now because they had a plan and gave Jurgen Klopp the chance to work. The results are there. It’s going to take time but Manchester United will get it right.

Which club do you support in La Liga?

Barcelona of course! Messi and Ronaldino are the reasons I am supporting the Camp Nou outfit.

Do you have any team you support locally?

None at all. I am not a fan of Nigerian football because of its politics. If it stops, why not, I’ll start supporting our football.

But do you follow the Super Eagles?

Not that much, but I’m a fan from afar.

I know you’re good friends with Leicester forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, do you discuss football when you are with him?

Well, we’re good friends like you said but, when we are together we just discuss normally. We hardly talk about football. You know there are times you just want to put work stuffs behind you and just have a normal life. So, it’s like that, we hardly talk football.

Do you play football?

No, I play basketball. I love Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors.

Why Golden State Warriors?

Steph Curry is the reason. I watch their games when I’m free. The guy is really good. I love the rivalry between him and Lebron James.

If you’re not in the studio, how do you unwind?

I like swimming. If I’m not doing music, I go swimming.

After your popular hit “Wobi”, you’ve churned out other tracks. How do you manage to stay relevant in the competitive music industry?

Like I said before, it boils down to being consistent. I am unrelenting in my moves and evolving with time too. I try as much as possible to stay aloof and not get drown.

Celebrities / Abiodun Seeks More Time, Suspends N3,700 School Levy by Haryourmieykhun(m): 12:32pm On Sep 21, 2019
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun on Friday said he needed to be given more time to fulfil his campaign promises.

Abiodun made the appeal at the Education Summit organised by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology at the Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.

He said his administration was working hard to develop the state.

The governor said, “I want to remind you that I am still a baby governor, because it is not easy to begin to do the things that I have done in a very little time. I have only been here for three and a half months as governor of the state.

“We embarked on the projects you have seen in these three months. I am proud to say that I have the best team that any governor can have.

“I have people that have come from diverse sectors and they are here because of their patriotism and commitment to building their state.

“We have done all we have done, not because we are interested in any 100 days or whatever, but because of the people that voted for us. And we have to fulfil our campaign promises.”

Abiodun also said his administration boasted the highest Internally Generated Revenue in the history of the state.

He added, “I am trying to manage the resources available to us. For the first time in the history of the OGIRS (Ogun State Internal Revenue Service), we generated extra money, the highest that was ever generated in the history of the service.

He announced the suspension of the controversial N3, 700 education levy.

Pupils in public secondary schools and technical colleges were reportedly asked to pay the money.

Abiodun said the levy, which was described as a ‘donation’ from the Parent-Teacher Association, was adopted by the previous administration following an agreement between teachers and parents.

However, the governor said he had suspended the levy because “it is like payment taken through the back door”.

He said, “I did not introduce the levy. This fee predates this administration and our understanding is that the previous administration adopted it because it was a proposal that was accepted by parents and teachers.

Sports / Murray Encouraged By Progress After Hip Surgery by Haryourmieykhun(m): 1:58pm On Sep 12, 2019
ndy Murray insists he is encouraged by his recovery from career-saving hip surgery as the former world number one prepares to play next month’s Shanghai Masters.

Murray is aiming to rebuild his singles ranking following the operation in January.

The 32-year-old Scot made a tentative return to singles action in Cincinnati last month.

He was last seen on court at a Challenger event in Majorca — his first time playing at that lower level for 14 years — and his next tournament will be the Zhuhai Championships later in September.

Although Murray lost in the third round in Majorca against the unheralded Matteo Viola, the two-time Wimbledon champion was pleased he came through three matches in four days without any complications.

“The last tournament was at Challenger level which was good for me. We had good crowds there and it was different. I haven’t played at that level for 14 or 15 years but I enjoyed it,” Murray told reporters on Thursday.

“I am just happy to be healthy again. I would like to be playing at a higher level but it was fun for me out there.

“Recovering from matches because I don’t have pain, the preparation is fun. Hopefully it keeps going that way.”

Murray has committed to playing for four weeks in a row as the China Open in Beijing is sandwiched in between his outings in Zhuhai and Shanghai before returning to Europe to compete in the European Open in Antwerp.

While he is now able to play pain-free, Murray is still short of speed around the court, something he is banking on returning over the next few months.

“Now I don’t have any limitations on what I can’t do,” Murray added at an event at Queen’s Club to promote a daily liquid supplement developed specifically for the Scot.

“I am certainly still a little bit slow in terms of where I would like to get to. I’m thinking that in the next four or five months that is going to get better.

“Each week I have felt better but performances haven’t necessarily shown that, in terms of results. But I have been feeling physically better.”

Education / President Of The Student Union Government Of The Federal University Oye Ekiti by Haryourmieykhun(m): 4:46pm On Sep 11, 2019
The President of the Student Union Government of the Federal University Oye Ekiti, Awodola Oluwaseun, has narrated how policemen from the Ekiti State Police Command allegedly killed two students of the school.

He identified the deceased students as Oluwaseyi Kehinde, a 100-level student of Crop Science and Horticulture and Joseph Okonofua, a 300-level student of Biology Education.

The student leader said two others were injured and admitted to hospital.

He insisted that the police must be held accountable for the death of the students.

The protest was said to have been caused by blackout at the institution.

The demonstration later degenerated, leading to the killing of two students.

The school management had issued a statement on Wednesday, asking all students to vacate their hostels because the campus had been shut indefinitely.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, in a statement had claimed that the students attacked the convoy of the governor’ wife, Bisi Fayemi.

Ikechukwu also alleged that the students assaulted policemen and damaged a police vehicle.

He denied that the police shot any student at the scene.

However, the SUG president noted that the police were responsible for the death of the two students.

Oluwaseun explained that while Okonofua, aka Icon, was shot in the stomach, Kehinde, a class representative, was shot in the head.

He said, “We finished the peaceful demonstration at 1.40pm. When I was done with a press conference, we discharged all our students by 2 pm.

“I went to sleep at my friend’s place. I was still asleep when I was called around 4 pm that some of our students had been arrested. A student told me that they were arrested at the Ikole campus and the police were bringing them to Oye town.

“I decided to meet the military official that was with us during our protest so we could find a way to bail them. Together with the army official, we went to meet the Oye Divisional Police Officer. The DPO assured us that the students would be released.”

The 300-level Biochemistry student explained that with the assurance, he returned to his friend’s house to continue resting.

He said a few minutes later, his personal assistant called him that the army officer was looking for him.

“I thought it was about bail. When I met him, he said the chief security officer to the governor was around and I should meet him.

“When we got to where the CSO was, we started talking. While I was with him, an officer came from nowhere and slapped me.

“There were students around and that incident almost caused chaos. Everybody queried the officer for slapping me. I was also angry and asked what I did. The army officer and the CSO begged me to be calm.

“They said we should enter the car to go and see the governor and they would ensure that the officer apologised. The students said I should not go.

“Later, they said I should meet with the wife of the governor and that she was around. The students, again, said I should not go,” he added.

Oluwaseun said while the CSO and the army officer tried to appease him, the CSO told him to meet with the state commissioner of police.

“The CSO asked me and the army officer to wait for him for a minute. After a while, I told the officer I wanted to go and rest and that I was no longer angry. I stood to go and meet the CSO to tell him I was leaving.

“As I turned back to leave, we heard a gunshot. Another police officer had shot into the air. The CSO to the governor ran to meet the policeman and asked him why he shot. Before we knew it, they had fired tear gas canisters at us and that was how commotion started.

“The indigenes started throwing stones and students joined them. Everything turned violent as police started shooting at students.

That was when they killed a student, which aggravated everything. And we later lost another student,” the student leader added.

The SUG leader called for an investigation into the deaths, saying justice should be done.
Politics / Why Millions Of Nigerians Experience Hardship And Sickness —buhari by Haryourmieykhun(m): 6:04pm On Sep 10, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said that corruption was the major factor responsible for the suffering of millions of Nigerians.

Buhari added that corruption at all levels was the biggest problem impeding Nigeria’s economic growth and development.

The president made the remark at the 49th Annual Accountant Conference organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria in Abuja.

The theme of the conference was; “Building Nigeria for Sustainable Growth and Development.’’

“I urge you now to always see corruption in its true colour as a gross violation of human right. Corruption is the major reason why millions of our people are in hardship, sick and helpless.

He said that it prevents good governance and encourage misappropriation of public funds, stiffens innovation, infrastructure development and investments.

Represented by Mr Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the president said: “Our fight against corruption is in reality a struggle for nation building and the future.

“Corruption and impunity becomes widespread when accountability is disregarded.

“Disrespect for accountability also strives when people get away with all manner of questionable things and accountants are unable to check them.

“Corruption is the major reason why many children cannot go to school, why we have few equipment and doctors in our hospitals.

“Corruption diverts public resources thereby causing much suffering, deprivation and unnecessary death in the country.

“Therefore, if we do not slay corruption with the passion it deserves, we will not get the result that we need.’’

Buhari reiterated that the government was committed toward achieving structural economic change and a more diversified and inclusive economy.

He said that it was for this reason that he had signed many executive orders aimed at improving the business conditions in the country.

“We signed the Executive Order 7 of 2019 on Road Infrastructure Development and Rehabilitation Investment Tax Credit Scheme.

“This Executive Order aims to accelerate road infrastructure development for a balanced economic growth in Nigeria by granting approvals to private sector entities to construct and rehabilitate eligible roads across the country.

“This is in exchange for tax credits which will be applied against their company income tax.

“The motivation for the scheme comes from the desire to take advantage of private sector funding to road development in our country,’’ he said.

Also, the Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Magu called on Nigerians to join the fight against corruption.

Magu said the fight against corruption could not be won if it was left alone to the EFCC and other anti-graft agencies.

In his remark, the President of ICAN, Mr Nnamdi Okwuadigbo pledged the institute’s commitment to facilitating economic growth and development in the country.

“Now is the time to redeem our image in the committee of nations. We cannot afford to fail as the largest economy in Africa.

“As chartered accountants we are at a vantage position to determine the effective use of public funds and we charge you to be front runners in the fight against corruption,” he said.

Politics / Nalado Sandamu 'Commander' Dies! Buhari’s Housekeeper Is Dead by Haryourmieykhun(m): 3:56pm On Sep 10, 2019
A loyal and honest employee of President Muhammadu Buhari has died after serving him and his family for over 30 years.

The Presidency said in a statement just released in Abuja that Nalado Sandamu, better known as ‘Commander’, was an honest and good caretaker of the President.

He died at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano on Monday.

The deceased worked at the President’s country home in Daura, Katsina State.

“I have lost a good and honest caretaker,’’ the President was quoted as mourning Sandamu.

Buhari added, “I have lost a prudent and a wonderful custodian who did so well taking care of my country home in Daura. May Allah bless his soul and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss, Ameen.”

The statement, which was signed by Nigeria’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, noted, “The President sent a delegation to the family of the bereaved in Sandamu Local Government Area, Katsina, comprising Senior Special Assistant, Domestic and Household Matters, Sarki Abba, Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu and State Chief of Protocol, Amb. Lawal Kazaure.

“The President’s Housekeeper, Saleh Yuguda, was also on the delegation that visited the family of the bereaved.”
