Things seem to keep getting worse as regards Nigeria and the FIFA rankings. Latest chat shows a further decline in the country's rankings. The Super Eagles of Nigeria will enter the New Year as the 51st best footballing country, according to the latest ranking released by FIFA on Thursday. The Nigerians also dropped to 9th in Africa. Germany, Brazil and Portugal retained the top three places in the latest FIFA rankings released Thursday. There was little movement in the FIFA charts with Argentina and Belgium completing the top five and 2018 World Cup hosts Russia placed 64th. FIFA rankings as of December 22 1. Germany 2. Brazil 3. Portugal 4. Argentina 5. Belgium 6. Spain 7. Poland 8. Switzerland 9. France 10. Chile CC: Lalasticlala, Mynd44 Source: http://castgist.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=25349 |
Audiences left unsure whether senator is celebrating his wealth or being ironic with appearance in song by afro trap star Kach Some politicians send Christmas cards of themselves posing as bacon sandwich-eating bikers. Some tell self-effacing jokes about their bald spots. But a Nigerian senator may have taken political self-deprecation to new heights after appearing in a music video featuring fast cars, dollar bills and his own name on repeat – either celebrating his ostentatious wealth or in a deeply ironic parody. With “LEGEND” written on his T-shirt, Dino Melaye, the senator for Kogi West, appears in the video for which he reportedly provided his house, cars and money. “Balling every day like Ronaldinho. Money spending no aristo. Dino, Dino, Dino Melaye,” sings the artist Kach, while talking on a phone that is actually a stack of cash, then lounging on a bed with gold chains around his neck and a woman massaging his shoulders, and finally throwing money out of a Rolls-Royce. At one point, Kach and friends sit at a dining table pretending to eat hundred dollar bills. Kach makes afro trap, a hip-hop genre pioneered by MHD, and is the son of Nigeria’s minister of state for petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu. At first, Sola Tayo, an associate fellow at Chatham House in London, was taken in. “I thought it was satire, very bold satire,” she said. “I thought wow, this is incredible, he’s gone to all the trouble of getting the most realistic Dino lookalike. If it’s not a glowing tribute to him, it’s a slick rebuke of him.” Satire is growing in popularity in Nigeria, which recently held its inaugural satire festival and launched a Daily Show-style TV programme, The Other News. Melaye is also the author of Antidotes for Corruption, a book that, according to its cover, tries to “infiltrate the Nigerian psyche and instruct them that this [corruption] is a menace that must be understood and tackled head on”. At the same time, he has said he will die before he stops supporting Bukola Saraki, Nigeria’s Senate president, who has spent most of his tenure fighting cases of corruption and failure to declare assets. It is unclear how Melaye made his money. “People like Dino are notorious for their extravagance – they’re not shy of showing off their wealth,” Tayo said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkvv2agydso Source: http://castgist.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=25348 |

prospero5:He's just a sadist. No religious activity in North Korea, |
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has upped the ante in his war on Christmas with a new rule that prohibits any "gatherings that involve alcohol and singing." North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has upped the ante in his war on Christmas with a new rule that prohibits any "gatherings that involve alcohol and singing." South Korea’s National Intelligence Service reported the details of the latest ban, which is designed to control the spread of information coming from outside of official channels and contain potential dissent that may arise from recent tightening of sanctions against the secluded Asian country. Experts estimate those prohibition will severely impact the North Korean economy in the coming months, and by March the nation’s people will find themselves in dire circumstances. While Christmas is not typically a major holiday in North Korea, some of its citizens have been known to practice Christianity and observe the holy day in the past. Kim Jong Un officially banned that practice last year, instead directing all citizens who would have celebrated the holiday to instead commemorate the December 24,1919 -- the birthdate of the leader’s grandmother instead. Kim has made attempts to stop Christmas from spilling over the nation’s border in the past as well. For years, South Korea erected a 30-foot tall tree of lights on a hill near the infamous demilitarized zone that could be seen from North Korea. Several years ago, North Korea reportedly said that lighting the tree would result in "unexpected consequences." Source: http://castgist.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25340 CC: Lalasticlala, Mynd44

Hope so and Diddy should have done this a long time ago. Jigga and others |
Amid racial tensions casting a pall over American football, rap Star Diddy wants to buy the Carolina Panthers and become the first African American owner of an NFL team. The New York rapper, estimated by Forbes magazine to be worth $820 million, voiced his interest as Panthers owner and founder Jerry Richardson stepped down in the wake of sexual harassment allegations. “I would like to buy the @Panthers. Spread the word,” tweeted Diddy, who is also known as Puff Daddy and whose real name is Sean Combs. “There are no majority African American NFL owners. Let’s make history,” he wrote. After Diddy’s initial tweets late Sunday, two African American sporting stars said they wanted to join his bid — Colin Kaepernick and Steph Curry. Kaepernick, a former quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, began a movement of players kneeling rather than holding their hearts during the national anthem as a protest against police brutality and other racial injustices in the United States. Kaepernick no longer has a job — retaliation, his supporters say, for his outspoken politics — and President Donald Trump has seized on the issue, demanding that owners punish athletes who do not stand for the anthem. After Predisent Donald Trump’s attacks on the athletes, Curry, a history-making shooter for the Golden State Warriors, said he would not want to visit the White House with his NBA championship-winning team. While more than two-thirds of players in the National Football League are black, only one team has an owner who is an ethnic minority — the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are owned by Pakistani-born tycoon Shahid Khan. Only one team in all of professional sports has a black owner — the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, whose controling interest is held by basketball legend Michael Jordan. Still, Diddy would face forbidding odds to buy the Panthers. The move would need approval from other NFL owners, some of whom might be loath to a deal that gives a role to Kaepernick. The hard-living Diddy has also had his own share of controversy, including his arrest on weapons charges after a 1999 shooting at a New York club, although he was acquitted. Diddy, 48, was ranked the world’s top-paid celebrity on the last Forbes list in June, raking in $130 million in the previous year. Outside of music, his business empire includes fashion lines and a stake in French-made Ciroc vodka. Source: http://castgist.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=25329 CC: Lalasticlala, Mynd44

No Aliens have been found or known to exist yet. |
Yesterday, December 16, an asteroid known as 3200 Phaethon is going to miss Earth by 6.2 million miles. Given the relative emptiness of space, that's just about grazing us. The 3-mile wide asteroid has been classified as "potentially hazardous" by NASA, which designates that it has a probability of one day colliding with Earth. That won't be today: 6.2 million miles is not close enough to be of concern. For comparison's sake, the moon orbits us at an average distance of 240,000 miles, or 25 times closer. But 6.2 million miles is close enough to Earth that amateur astronomers will be able to observe the space rock with a relatively small telescope. Astronomy Now has a map and details on how to see it. Even though it's just passing by, 3200 Phaethon has made its mark on Earth in other ways. According to NASA, the recent Geminid meteor shower, visible on Earth throughout the past week, may be related to 3200 Phaethon; NASA says that 3200 Phaethon is "widely thought to be the parent body for the meteor stream, due to similarities between [Phaethon's] orbit and that of the meteors." Many meteor showers are caused by comets rather than asteroids, as comets rain particles in a way that can produce meteor showers when they intercept Earth. This would make Phaethon unusual among asteroids: "Most meteor streams are associated with comets, so this raises the question of whether Phaethon could be an inactive comet nucleus," NASA writes. There are a lot of asteroids of varying size in the solar system, but few which pose a threat. Because 3200 Phaethon orbits the sun once every 523 days in a highly elliptical path, the asteroid occasionally dips closely to Earth's orbit, which may one day put us at risk for collision. (You can look at an interactive model of its orbit around the sun here). It is not known definitively how devastating a 3-mile wide asteroid impact would be on Earth, and may actually depend on the place that it struck (water vs. land). The asteroid that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs was 6.2 miles wide in diameter, and struck a large gypsum deposit that sent sulphur into the atmosphere, blotting the sun for perhaps years and killing much plant life. If the asteroid had hit a slightly different spot on Earth, the outcome might have been very different. Major extinction events on Earth, generally caused by asteroid impacts, are believed to happen at least once every hundred million years, and perhaps more frequently. The last major extinction event, known as the Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction event, was caused by the aforementioned asteroid and killed off much of the large land-dwelling life on Earth, including dinosaurs, about 66 million years ago. That impact paved the way for the rise of small mammals who were the ancestors to all humans. While no potentially civilization-threatening asteroids have been discovered yet, efforts to track and catalogue potentially hazardous asteroids may pay off in the future. If an asteroid on course to strike Earth is detected with enough of a lead time, even a tiny application of force — say, a mirror or a laser pointed at it to slowly push it to one direction — would be enough to push it off course and prevent an impact with Earth. The trick is finding said asteroid far enough in advance, as a last-minute diversion or tactical nuke, as depicted in films like "Armageddon," is unlikely to be practical nor physically possible. Change is constant and this appears to be the case with Drogba. His new look tells a lot. Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has undergone a dramatic image change by shedding his flowing locks. The Ivorian striker is still going strong at the age of 39 as he turns out for USL side Phoenix Rising. He has, however, taken the opportunity to open a new chapter in his professional life by revealing a “new me”. Drogba will be heading into retirement once his current commitments in Phoenix come to a close. With that in mind, the legendary frontman has obviously decided that it is time for a complete overhaul. He will be hanging up his boots at the end of a goal and trophy-laden career, with Drogba having started out with Le Mans in France, before forging his reputation at Guingamp and Marseille. Chelsea snapped him up in 2004 and over the course of eight years in west London he landed three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups and the Champions League. He returned for a second spell at Stamford Bridge following two seasons with Galatasaray and helped himself to another Premier League crown and League Cup triumph. Archaeologists have learned a great deal about “the Huarmey Queen” in the five years since they discovered the tomb at El Castillo de Huarmey in Peru and found her body inside. They’ve learned that she was from the pre-Incan Wari culture and she lived about 12 centuries ago. They know that she lived past the age of 60 and that though she was just one of 58 noblewomen — including four queens or princesses — who were found in the remarkably untouched tomb, she was clearly special among them. Her body, surrounded by jewelry, gold ear flares, a copper ceremonial ax, a silver goblet and weaving tools fashioned from gold, was found in a private chamber. Her skeleton revealed that she had a strong upper body and spent most of life seated, indicating that she had been a weaver — a position of great renown among the Wari, who revered textiles more than gold and silver. But they had no idea what she looked like. Now they know that, too. Early this year, National Geographic archaeologist Miłosz Giersz, who co-discovered the tomb with Peruvian archaeologist Roberto Pimentel Nita, asked Swedish archaeologist Oscar Nilsson if he could reconstruct the Huarmey Queen’s face. And Nilsson could. After creating a 3-D printed model of the woman’s skull, he used known datasets to estimate the thickness of the muscle and flesh atop the bone. Then, working with photographs of indigenous Andeans who live near the ancient tomb, he rebuilt her face by hand. He even used real hair from elderly Andean women to reconstruct her haircut. It took him 220 hours, but it was worth the effort. “I’ve worked with this for 20 years and there are many fascinating projects — but this one was really something else,” Nilsson told National Geographic. “I just couldn’t say no to this project.” The finished reconstruction goes on public display Thursday at a new exhibit of Peruvian artifacts at the National Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw, Poland. Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been named Premier League Manager of the Month for the third time in a row. City recorded victories over Arsenal, Leicester City, Huddersfield and Southampton during the month of November under Guardiola's tutelage. The four-straight wins were part of his side's record-breaking run of 15 successive Premier League victories, which they clinched against Swansea City on Wednesday. Guardiola becomes only the second manager to ever win the award for the third time in succession - matching Chelsea manager Antonio Conte's efforts last season. The Spaniard saw off competition from Conte, Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp, Burnley's Sean Dyche, Manchester United's Jose Mourinho and Arsenal's Arsene Wenger to win the prize again. No manager has ever won the award four times in a row but Guardiola could be in line to do so, with City having won their opening three league games so far in December. Wales could have a new Manager another soccer legend as Manchester United great Ryan Giggs has thrown his hat into the ring as a contender to become the next Wales manager. Chris Coleman stepped down as Wales manager last month to take up the reins at English second-tier club Sunderland and the Football Association of Wales is looking for a replacement. Giggs scored 12 goals in 64 appearances for Wales spread over 16 years between 1991 and 2007 and said he would love to succeed Coleman. “Of course I’m interested,” Giggs told Sky Sports. “I’ve played for Wales and I’ve said that I want to go back into coaching. Obviously that is one of the top jobs. I played for United, I played for Wales. “I’ve not spoken to anyone at the moment, but I’d definitely be interested.” Giggs, 44, spent four games as interim United manager in 2014 following David Moyes’s sacking and then worked as an assistant to Louis van Gaal for two years before leaving the club last year. His former Wales team-mates John Hartson and Craig Bellamy have also expressed interest in the post, while Tony Pulis is believed to be another contender. Coleman led Wales to a shock semi-final showing at Euro 2016, but they missed out on a place at next year’s World Cup in Russia. F.B.I. officials warned one of President Trump’s top advisers, Hope Hicks, earlier this year about repeated attempts by Russian operatives to make contact with her during the presidential transition, according to people familiar with the events. The Russian outreach efforts show that, even after American intelligence agencies publicly accused Moscow of trying to influence the outcome of last year’s presidential election, Russian operatives were undaunted in their efforts to establish contacts with Mr. Trump’s advisers. There is no evidence that Ms. Hicks did anything improper. According to former officials, American intelligence and law enforcement agencies became alarmed by introductory emails that Ms. Hicks received from Russian government addresses in the weeks after Mr. Trump’s election. After he took office, senior F.B.I. counterintelligence agents met with Ms. Hicks in the White House Situation Room at least twice, gave her the names of the Russians who had contacted her, and said that they were not who they claimed to be. The F.B.I. was concerned that the emails to Ms. Hicks may have been part of a Russian intelligence operation, and they urged Ms. Hicks to be cautious. The meetings with Ms. Hicks, what the F.B.I. calls a “defensive briefing,” went beyond the standard security advice that senior White House officials routinely receive upon taking office. Defensive briefings are intended to warn government officials about specific concerns or risks. A lawyer for Ms. Hicks declined to comment. The contents of the emails to Ms. Hicks are unclear, as are the identities of the Russians who sent them. The people who described the briefing and the emails spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to openly discuss intelligence matters. The F.B.I. declined to comment. On Thursday and Friday, investigators working for Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel, interviewed Ms. Hicks as part of his investigation into Russia’s efforts to influence the 2016 election and whether any of Mr. Trump’s advisers assisted the Russian campaign. It is not clear whether the Russian efforts to contact Ms. Hicks were discussed during that interview. In early January, American intelligence agencies formally accused Russian intelligence agencies of trying to tip the presidential election toward Mr. Trump, who was reluctant to accept that conclusion. Against that backdrop, senior F.B.I. officials went to the White House in the early days of the Trump administration and warned all senior aides to be cautious about espionage threats, especially from Russia and China. Then the F.B.I., in coordination with the National Security Council, separately briefed Ms. Hicks and at least one other person close to the president. In a meeting in February, Ms. Hicks was told generally about the Russian intelligence efforts and pressed them for more information. A senior F.B.I. agent met again with Ms. Hicks, and provided her several names of Russians who had contacted her and whom the F.B.I. was concerned about.
