Yes. The Americans generally pave the sides of roads with cement for the same reason of neatness and reducing sand buildup from the sides. Something Nigeria in shortcut mode does not. Soludo is doing well with selecting areas of the town to pave such as major roads and the Executive Business District.

They should also adopt another American town planning concept called ZONING. Move things to where they are supposed to be. Remove all inter and intra state buses from Unizik junction and Zik Avenue into an Awka Central Bus Station. Create a Central Bus Station in Onitsha and Ekwulobia. Separate traditional informal markets from the center of the town to the edge like Eke Awka and Ochanja and Relief. Let the downtown evolve modern retail undisturbed by primitive trading.
Bull's eye!
This paving of the sides is what I think many road constructors don't take into consideration.
They just do the roads and that's it.

I first noticed it in the roads Ngige did in towns, which helped prevent dust a great deal.
We see a lot of it in Lagos too.

Aje!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been hesitant in engaging your mentions and it is intentional because I am careful of who I engage but everything you have said here is everything I have been saying for over 2 years!

The Timber statement crowned it for me because I said the exact same thing! He should have been slowly integrated into the team with a more definitive role. He was coming from a league where the style and pace was different. Havertz should have also had a slower transition. For the life of me, I can’t understand why we went for him, worsestill, for that amount.

I said it here, Arteta contributes to the injuries that plague this team. From his training, to squad rotation to on field usage. I don’t trust him with anymore investments to be honest.
I don't trust him too.
To think I even forgot to mention Havertz is an embarrassment on my person.
I doubt there was a sit-down plan to buy Havertz.
It is as if to say he noticed Havertz was not wanted, and then rushed to get him.
Chelsea will be laughing at us now for throwing such an amount away.
The dude plays like he's tired of the sport.

I was making a personal analysis on Saka this morning and I said to myself that as compared to other better players that have played for Arsenal before them, the only Grace he has durability.
To play close to 240 matches and has never been out for as much as 3 weeks is testament to his durability. We can add Odegaard & Martinelli too.
Odegaard - 130+ matches.
Martinelli - 150+ matches.
In a long time, they're the luckiest first team Arsenal midfield/attacking players we've had.

Not even Wilshere, The Ox, Walcott, Ramsey, and RVP were this lucky.

An unfortunate case in point to that durability problem is Smith-Rowe.
I mean, as it stands, can the nigga even play 10 straight matches in a row without having one issue or another? OMG!

Some arsenal fans can be so emotional ehn. I don read nonsense tire on Facebook.

One said the board shouldn't allow Arteta to handle transfer again. That they should be buying players for him instead. grin
I don't really care what Facebook people say, but there's a need to put his recruitments into scrutiny.

1. Why bring Raya in when he's not an upgrade on Ramsdale? He can't even confidently keep the ball to feet sometimes. Always in a hurry to balloon it into the air knowing fully well Saka and co won't win the ball 4 out of 10 times.

2. How many players has he sat down and made plans to buy?
a. Trossard was an accidental buy. So was Jorginho. He wants to maintain the development of Martinelli and Saka buy giving them enough minutes. It doesn't work that way.
b. Why bring Marquinos when he never intended him to compete or get minutes in the Saka role?
Today, where's he?
c. Ben White has always been average, but he paid 50m for him. Okay, he's not average, huh?
But he's average at right back, and now people blame him for not unlocking Saka enough.
From day one, I didn't rate him.
d. Did he always plan to buy Rice, or went after Rice cos City flaunted with the sale?

3. Why did he bring in the Nigerian player as a 15 year old knowing fully well he wasn't ready?
Today, where on earth is the guy?

4. At the beginning of the season, what was his plan for a backup rwf, knowing fully well Saka had no competitor?

5. Where did he plan to play Timber originally?
He contributed to his getting injured because he didn't know where to play him. You'll know this when he played Partey at right back. Utter nonsense.

>>>>
When the season was about to commence, I was shouting and God will bear me witness, that Rice was not enough. I maintained that even with Rice in the team, it'll be a struggle to win the Carabao.
It's already January, and we're trophyless again.

Arteta, you have done well, but you don't have the know-how to take me to where I desire to be.

CAN THEY TAKE THE FOOTBALL CLUB TO WHERE THEY DESIRE TO BE?

THE ANSWER EVERYTIME IS A CAPITAL NO!!!!!!!!!
I'm not convinced that the Arsenal fans on this thread have been following the club for so long.
If they have, they would know the quality that can take us all the way.

It is yet another trophyless season for US.

Can you check their minutes played and compare it with their goals scored

Van Persie- banged 30 goals twice while with us, win a golden boot with us, was mostly out injured and still dropped good numbers.

Giroud- highest goal tally with us in the league was 16, was mostly fit, went on some goal drought despite we chasing the league.

One was good with us and the other was average.
Even if the stats don't favour RVp, Giroud is still no where close.
The advantage RVP always had over Giroud was ability.
Dem no dey sell am for market.

That's why I'm hoping Arteta will go into the market and get us players with Actual grounded ability, and not players with perceived ability.

This argument about Giroud's status as a striker has been dragging on for a while now.
May I ask why?

Why were people angry with Giroud?
Too many services (supply) with little to show.
This is because Arsenal fans knew what they used to have. Historical context was factored.
Giroud was class in his own right but was never Top Class or Top Class for us given where we had come from (Henry, RVP). And Arsenal as a Club fell from Grace is the only reason we acquired a guy like Giroud. From where we had come from, Giroud was never making our bench.
Giroud would never have excelled more than he did because there are levels to this smelling of blood thing. And his own level was not just up there.
That's why we have to praise CR7's (and some few) level of smelling blood so much that they're rated TOP-TOP. None of our attackers smell blood enough.
That's why sometimes stray balls would pass the box and all we'll shout is No striker, No striker, No striker.
It is not that. They don't smell blood enough, that's why.

The reason we hype what we have now as Top class is because we had fallen from Grace.
No single player in the squad makes the 11 of the last squad that won us the league. No chance.
But that level of what we HAD is what it takes to go all the way - Ability, Agility, Force, Desire, Mentality, Discipline, and Experience (been there, done that).

Today, the reverse is the case.
Poor service (supply) with over-expectation.
For that, no one focuses on the supply channel, but wants the striker to convert every 3 chance to 2 goals.
But we forget so soon that a healthy supply entails converting 7 chances to 2 goals.

No naaa!

That's not a bonus. Before goals, there is the first, second and third phase build ups. There is need to keep possession too. Timber excels at these at least judging from 3 or 4 matches he has played.

Let me add that before the attack can function, the defense must be strong which is far from the current situation.
The need to keep and organize possession and influence games is centred on the midfield. Timber's job is to make the defence steel. That's all.

It is our lack of influence in midfield that has constantly made Zinchenko drift central.
And when Zinchenko is central, he gives an idea of how a midfield should be - retention, possession, intricate passes, dominace, etc.

What Zinchenko does in midfield is a bonus. That's not his job.

If at all you've seen Timber play, you will know how good his addition will be to the whole right hand side of the team. It's not only about the defense, he's progressive and creative too.
And that's all a bonus, tbh.

It's like saying Odegaard chases down balls and scores 15 goals. That's a bonus.
His main job, there are lots of question marks.

Lol.... Timber injury really spoil plans sha. Arteta really had big plans for him

I doubt they'll call back Tierney but it's really poor judgement to loan Tierney and keep Kiwior. Even promoting Kiwi In pecking order over Tierney sef. Like who does that?

I think we forget so soon that Timber is a defender.
In this team, we don't create enough goal scoring chances and dont score enough goals.
Let's forget about Timber for a moment and focus on the attackers (Saka, Mart, Jesus), and then the Feeders, i.e. the people who are supposed to service them (Odegaard, Rice). The attack is weak, the feed or service is also weak.

I remember our loss against Newcastle. People were angry that we got robbed. I was angry that we didn't do anything to hurt them in terms of chance creation.
Timber will only help to make the defense STEEL.
There's no one we have to make the attack elite. For even though it appears we have them, it is a case of elite today, and then leave u confused tomorrow.

If you are here screaming buy this, buy that and the tactics is still the same, then you are short sighted on the issues plaguing this team.

Rice is one hell of a Footballer and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about him but he is no Partey. Partey’s ability to dictate the tempo of games with his passing and movement is difficult to replicate.
That one sef dey.

The problem with the players we depend on to take us to where we desire to be is the Lack of all-round Development in their game.
These are the players we heavily depend on: Martinelli, Saka, Odegaard.
Whether they're exciting is not in doubt. Their development as all-round players is incomplete. That means we'll need quality players to help them develop. Arteta might be a coach and whatnot, but he doesn't understand these things. And that's why the players will give him hope today and leave him confused tomorrow.
If you have played this beautiful game and studied football very well, you'll discover that the TRUE TEST of a WINGER is the ability to take players on. If you can't do it every now and then, in my opinion, you're a waste of my time.
You must be able to do it 7 times out of 10. This makes defenders know you're ruthless.
Martinelli struggles to take players on. Saka too.
And even though it is true that Martinelli and Saka usually do take-ons, it's not enough because the confidence they have is not enough.
What does that tell you? That Development is not enough.
You want to be a Great player on the wing and you cannot beat players 7 times out of 10 on the by-line, where would that take you?
Of course, you'll qualify from the UCl, and you'll likely win the 2nd round of the UCL. But when the Quarters come, what happens?
You'll likely fall apart.
We've seen players do it - Mane, Salah, Bale, CR7, Mahrez, Chiesa, etc.
Even Robben and Ribery were doing it at Old-age.

It would have been easier if they were very special talents but they're not.
Even if you give it 3 extra years, we won't achieve much.
The reason is, Arteta is not ready to drop Saka, Martinelli and Odegaard. He's also not ready to rotate them.
In trying to help Saka, he brought Marquinos, who had zero experience. Shaybe people said he was exciting. Where is he today?
That tells you Arteta doesn't know what he's doing at all. And then there's Nelson. What can Nelson do for real? Come'on! Let's be real.

We don't have an influencer in midfield. Rice seems to be one, but he's a wannabe influencer. It's not part of his game even though he tries to do it.
Partey is an influencer, but he's absent.
Our chief influencer is supposed to be Odegaard. But he doesn't influence, does he?
That's why I tell fans to be careful about stats because it is not everything. Yes, he scored 15 goals a season. And so?
Let's be real. Does he influence games as much as you desire?
I don't need him to score goals. That's not his job but just a bonus.
I need him to be in that area and dictate the tempo and make everything revolve around him. I need him to be able to find players both aerially and on the ground, giving slide-through passes, and picking pockets every now and then.
I need him being in charge in such a way that his teammates understand that they can make intelligent runs when he's with the ball because they trust he can find them.
I've said it before. We can't go anywhere with Odegaard as our creative midfielder. You look at Florian Wirtz at Bayer Leverkusen and see what he's doing. Then you know Odegaard is far off from what we want.

My concern is that if Arteta believes so well that he'll make Odegaard, Saka and Martinelli his key starters and not bring anyone else of higher quality to challenge them. Eventually, fans will turn on him, and then the management will do same.

If you can't suggest, why criticize the ones we have?
Salah was a journeyman until that famous Basel match. Mane started small at Southampton. Both clicked under Klopp. They were not ready-made neither did they fell from the sky.

Sterling at Liverpool was so wasteful and reckless. Until Leceister won that league, who knew Mahrez?

The players you mentioned above have once passed through the phase Saka and Martinelli (whom you're criticizing) are currently passing through but their coaches didn't ditch them because they're neither models nor are they following Kim Kardashian.

Your point is valid.

But the bottomline is that without quality additions in attack and the creative engine area, the guys available can't take you and I to where we desire to be.

I hope you know the models you are clamouring for started somewhere. Your so called models didn't automatically became models. They grew and develop through different situations. Infact, Saka himself is a model judging by his personal laurels so far.
You said these set of attackers can't win us trophy, I partially agree because I myself believe we need a good striker as an icing on the cake. But I want you to remember that Saka, Martinelli and Ode were part of the team that almost won the league last season if not for poor squad depth and injury.

I came here and said before that I've been following Arsenal bumper-to-bumper for over 20 years, and people said I'm being cocky.

The fact that Saka, Martinelli, and Odegaard are exciting is not in doubt. They are.
The question is, CAN THEY TAKE US TO WHERE WE DESIRE TO BE?
The Answer is NO. They can't.

Like I said somewhere (not on Nairaland), if Arteta thinks this squad can take us to where we desire to be, then he's a BIG joke.

There's a chance that the defenders can take us far. But that attack? Forget it.
It is not about getting 3 points against City, United, etc.
As the Heat begins to grow, they'll likely fall apart.

Saka, Martinelli, and Odegaard don't have the experience, the balls, the cojones, the know-how.
Because they've never been there and they've never done that.
If you're really into football, you'll realise their talents were never fully developed before they were plunged into First team football. Apart from that, an important factor is they had no MODELS.
Saka is still trying based on Sanchez, Ozil, Aubameyang, Lacazette, etc., that helped Model him. But at that point, they were toxic for the team. And it was not enough for him to develop into becoming a TOTAL FORCE. Today he's unplayable, tomorrow he'll leave you wondering.
And then we start saying he's playing too much or not being helped by Ben White.

But that is not a characteristic of players that are considered TOP QUALITY.

It is also my opinion that eventually, the fans will turn on Arteta.
Because he also lacks the know-how to take us where we desire to be.
Food / Re: See Variety Of Nigerian Soups. (pictures) by Hausa(m): 9:06pm On Dec 28, 2023
Oha soup and Ofe Onugbu (bitter leaf soup) remains my best soup.
To be my best soup means to be cooked with Ede (cocoyam), and not all those oats, custard or whatever that people use to thicken it.

2. Interesting to note is that I enjoyed Efo when I lived for some years in the Surulere National Stadium before shops were demolished.
Omo, once I tasted that Efo, I never looked back. I guess the woman was good. Because I recall tasting it somewhere else years later and it didn't re-enact memories for me.

3. Interesting to note again is that back in school, my bunk mate from a town called Ede, who was staying on top of me, though he was young and was in 100L, was a big fan of Gbegiri. What I wondered was that I was in 400L (and far older) and had never cooked a soup in my life, and a 100L boy was cooking this soup at expert level. It dawned on me that I learnt nothing coming from home, lol. Many years later, I still neva cook one single soup.

4. On a visit to Ughelli, after decades of hearing about Banga up and down, I later got to taste the soup. What got me confused was why this Banga soup (it was so premium to the people) was much more expensive than other soups despite not being particularly special in taste to me. It would turn out that the Banga soup was the same soup we called Ofe Akwu (Palm fruit soup) in the East. Except while we ate ours with Rice, they ate theirs with Eba (and theirs didn't have the luxury of vegetables as ours).

5. Living in the north east in those days, I tasted this special northern premium soup called Mia Kwuka. I didn't eat it enough times to remember what it tastes like, unfortunately.

"Rio Ferdinand On Saka And Martinelli"

Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are now two of the most feared wingers in the Premier League and Rio Ferdinand saw it coming as long as three years ago.

The young Gunners duo, whose combined age of 44 is younger than Ferdinand at 45, were both handed their debuts under Unai Emery but really cemented their status as Arsenal regulars under current boss Mikel Arteta in 2020. After one sensational display on Boxing Day of that year, during what was an otherwise dismal campaign, Ferdinand tipped the pair for big things.

Speaking after a 3-1 home victory over Chelsea, the Manchester United legend claimed: "I watched Martinelli at Bournemouth away last season, him and Saka together, they have a link up and a relationship that's already there that I think in years to come will be a scary relationship. Scary!

"They work so well together. And [Kieran] Tierney as well backing it up. But Martinelli, I have to say is going to be a tremendous footballer. Top player. He has come back into this team and he is showing what all the fuss was about before. He is going to be a huge, huge player. Massive talent. I just hope he can stay fit. Saka, him as well."

Three years on, Ferdinand's prediction was incredibly accurate, with Saka and Martinelli two of the first names on Arteta's teamsheet. The pair played a vital role in last season's title charge and though the Gunners fell short in the end, the duo ended the campaign with 14 and 15 league goals respectively.

Saka has picked up where he left off this term, with a further five goals and six assists in the league alone this term before Christmas. Martinelli has found goals a tad harder to come by, with just two league strikes to his name so far.

Both still only 22, Arsenal have convinced the pair of them to commit their long-term future to the club in recent months. Both have shown on more than one occasion they are players that can be relied upon for the big occasions.

Martinelli's only home league goal this season came in the form of a late winner against title rivals Manchester City. Saka netted in the north London derby, as well as a number of vital, last-gasp assists to keep Arsenal's title charge alive.

Interesting.
You go to bring up a quote from Ferdinand to make it look weighty.
It is football we're talking about, not how to Govern a country better.
Everyone has the licence to talk about it.

Ferdinand cannot tell me what I know about Saka, Martinelli and Odegaard.

Shegzdave:

By growth and development, do you mean other teams looking to woo them away from the Emirates?
So until Madrid starts wooing them away from us, is this what you consider Growth.

Cause those young boys giving us double digits goals and assist every season and you say they aren’t developing?

A quick question:
How does attackers improve apart from goals, assists, high technical football IQ?
High technical football IQ.
I'm glad you mentioned this.

That right there is lacking in Odegaard, Saka and Martinelli.
