You don’t need passport to apply for visa. The birth certificate will do
Solumtoya:
Before someone asks again, if you want your newborn to have access to the NHS without bills after 3 months:

- Get the Birth Certificate from your Council.
- Apply for NIN in your closest centre.
- Apply for a Nigerian Passport in London.
- Apply for a Dependant Visa for the child.

Unfortunately, these steps could take up to 4 months so the earlier you start, the better. Also the entire process would cost quite some Thousands of Pounds depending on the length of the Visa.

I’m currently working in healthcare sector.
Solumtoya:
Services in the NHS is for only Citizens and Residents. A baby born here to immigrant parents has access for free for 3 months after which you either pay out of pocket, or get a visa fornthe baby.

The exceptions are some Emergency services that are for every person in the UK... Also, for minor cases, vaccinations, etc, most GPs won't bother charging. But such parents should pray the child doesn't need a surgery or treatment like hernia, the BILL would be heavy.

First one year for the baby the NHS is free. I will call citizen advice if the baby are still entitled to free NHS till five years.
ukay2:
Hmm if the babies no get visa...., make any of the babies no come get sickness that will require surgery or admissions in the hospital....NHS will send them better bills after discharge.

You don’t need to include the newborns in your visa application unless you’re planning to go to Naija with them.

Imagine having 2 kids already as a student and then giving birth to twins

Talk to your GP. It’s free the will book you in and ask you the one you like to do. Don’t listen to that woman that suggested withdrawal method. Na twins dey always follow that method comes. If you go land twins for UK grin grin

No problem. The time spent in the previous job will be counted towards ilr
igbsam:
Oh wow. Will let him know this. What if main applicant changes job to another sponsor ?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by hayesconcept(m): 5:28pm On Jul 28, 2023
Yes
bigtt76:
Interesting. Thanks for sharing. So this means for it to count, all man must de dem de as either MA or Dependent all through the journey for ILR? angry
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by hayesconcept(m): 5:11pm On Jul 28, 2023
Check this link to know which time can be counted towards the ILR. Dependent Tier 2 Visa wasn't Included. https://www.gov.uk/indefinite-leave-to-remain-tier-2-t2-skilled-worker-visa/time-uk
bigtt76:
How so? If both are in the same sector - one MA and other dependent for 2 years on one hand, and one MA (former dependent) and other dependent (former MA) for 3 years ...I'm curious to understand this more.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by hayesconcept(m): 4:47pm On Jul 28, 2023
If they go that way, the counter to ILR will be reset.
igbsam:
A quick question guys. So i met with some couples during one of our outings and we got talking. The company he got a sponsorship with offered him 2yrs sponsorship, his wife is working with the nhs and was offered sponsorship as well, but due to child care. They both agreed the husband gets the sponsorship while the wife goes on bank with nhs so she can be flexible with child care. They raised a concern i asked them to inquire about while i do same for them. After the 2yrs elapses and maybe the sponsoring company decides not to continue sponsoring, can the wife take up sponsorship with nhs while the husband switches to dependent ? Them doing 2yrs already, and the wife getting maybe 3 or 5yrs sponsorship, will they start all over again counting to ILR and the 2yrs done by the husband wasted ? Or they just combine both years and then count down to ILR seeing they just switched main sponsored roles. Note: they're both in the healthcare sector.

I sha passed my driving test today at 3rd attempt even though I had a perfect score in my theory, it's a different ball game driving with a stranger with eyes on you(failed the last one 30 seconds into the test which was really unfair, guess the examiner was having a bad day).

Wish all going through this phase well deserved favour!

Hope you really know how to drive? Even if you’re a professional driver in naija which I’m guessing you’re not. UK road will confused you. We have our steering for left in naija while UK own na right. We drive to the right in naija but in Uk na left. Complex roundabout couples with multiple road signs dey UK road wella. Take your time to learn how to drive here no go land yourself in trouble. Ire ook
terrymason:
Una don confuse me. Should I just do the normal Nigeria license or international license.
I read that one need to have local Nigeria license to be eligible to use international license in the UK. Current I don't have Nigeria license, but planning to do an international license.

What's the best way forward. The answer have been seeing regarding this question has not be straightforward.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by hayesconcept(m): 8:58am On Jul 13, 2023
Yes, but the international one will expire once you clock a year in the UK
pushup:
Hi. Can I have provisional license and still continue using the internatinal one? I have just over 6 months on my visa and i want to quickly get the provisional one. So that it makes it easier for me to get the main uk license
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by hayesconcept(m): 8:56am On Jul 13, 2023
What increase my success rate was that I have been driving with international driving license since March and I made sure that before I started driving I passed my driving theory test. This made me conversant with the highway codes and signs. Once your test date is fast approaching google search for a good instructor with a high pass rate in your area and book a driving lesson with the instructor. I did only 6hrs lessons to learn what the examiner really want on the test date. And lastly, watch a lot of mock driving tests on youtube that would help a lot too.
eyesaswide:
Any tips and tricks? How did you do it? I have my first test in September and I hope to join the 1st attempt geng

Automatic bro. Thank you

Congrats!!

Manual?

Asking because I found out to my great surprise that pass rate for manual is higher than auto (in my region abi city at least).

TravelRe: UK Skilled Worker Visa / Health And Care Worker Visa / Qualified Teacher Route by hayesconcept(m): 12:53pm On Jul 09, 2023
It’s possible if all the people MA shared the apartment with will not snitch.
SouthSultan:
Thanks man, but MA is a care worker who is already in UK. He just wants to know if he can stay with them in the shared flat for like a month, until he sorts out a 2room for the fam.
TravelRe: UK Skilled Worker Visa / Health And Care Worker Visa / Qualified Teacher Route by hayesconcept(m): 8:27am On Jul 09, 2023
Yes, there’s law against it. As a family of 5, at least you need 2 to 3bedroom to start with. Those living in shared apartments with your MA will snitch to the landlord or the council and this might involve police or social care. The implications of it is that your children will be taken away from you pending the time you’re able to sort yourself out. Did you want something like that?

My advice for you is to travel before the vignettes expired and find money to booked the return ticket in a week. Try and collect all your BRP cards within that week and return to naija with the kids. You can then return alone to look for a job and secure better accommodation.

UK no dey joke with Children. Ire oo
SouthSultan:
MA is already there living in a room in a 3 bedroom shared apartment, and things have really been somehow. Dependants have to go before vignettes expire. Would there be law contravention of any kind?

TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by hayesconcept(m): 10:27am On Jul 06, 2023
You can’t drive alone with your provisional license. You must be accompanied by a licensed driver. If Popo catches you driving alone that invalidates your insurance and your vehicle will be seized and you may also land in court.
misterkelly:
Hello House, I got a cheaper insurance rate at the compare site when I used my provisional license, as against my genuine verifiable international driver's licence.

My question is this - can I use my provisional license to apply while I drive with my international? Won't there be any penalty.
Cos the double rate difference is something.

Thank you

I’m in the same situation. Na 6hours i booked tho. £35 per hour using instructor car. And additional £100 on test date for using the instructor car and special insurance. Altogether £300 don go into vanishing.
lightnlife:
Driving test date: 25 August 2023.

Driving instructor is charging £30 per hour (using my car) or £40 per hour (using his car).

Are these rates not too high?

He's proposing a 10 hour lesson.

PS: My Naija licence don expire.
