Politics / Imo: Gov. Uzodimma Secures APC Guber Ticket For Second Term by hdaveyork(m): 10:36am On Apr 15, 2023

Mr Uzodimma, who was the sole contender in the primary election that took place in Owerri, polled 63,618 valid votes.

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State on Friday secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for his second term bid.

The Chairman of the seven-member 2023 Governorship Primary Election Committee, Williams Kayoda, said that 64,667 delegates from the 305 wards of the 27 Local Government Areas were accredited for the poll.

Mr Kayoda said that the exercise was conducted in compliance with the party’s Constitution, the 2022 Electoral Act (as amended), the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the guidelines provided by the national leadership of the party.

“During our short stay, we appointed ward and local government area committees for the purposes of the election.

“My mandate was to follow democratic principles, ensure that it is constitutional, legitimate, morally supported and legally binding.

“In line with that mandate, we have conducted the primary election through direct primary in all the 27 Local Government Areas,” he said.

Mr Kayoda described the exercise as peaceful, rancour-free and hitch-free with the support of the governor.

“The victory of today’s event is a victory dedicated to God Almighty and a victory that I will cherish for a long time.

In an acceptance speech, Mr Uzodinma thanked the delegates and party faithful for the confidence reposed in him.

“For me, I see it as a mark of confidence from the members of our great party and the entire Imo people at large,” he said.

He recalled that he had consulted God in prayer before contesting the election and that God had never disappointed him.

“Looking back, you will agree with me that from where we met Imo State in 2020 and where we are in 2023, there is a huge difference.

“If that is what touched your heart to challenge me to continue, I assure you that I will do my best not to betray this confidence you have reposed in me.

“I pray that God almighty will give me the courage, wisdom, knowledge, and resources to take Imo to its destination.“The Imo you see today would have been three times better, if not for the huge money we spent fighting insecurity, but God almighty has intervened.

“When you go home, pray for me.

“Going forward, we will double our speed,” he said.

Earlier, the state chairman of the party, MacDonald Ebere, said the governor’s victory was not surprising to the people of the state.

He urged the party faithful not to express fear, in spite of the propaganda, harassment, death threats or intimidation from the opposition parties, especially as the election drew nearer.

“What you have done under three-and-a-half years of your administration is next to none.

“Imo people are proud of Uzodimma’s signature projects, infrastructure development and economic policies.

“For all you have done and for all Imo people, there is no dissenting voice,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Imo governorship poll comes up on 11 November.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had earlier picked its National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, as its candidate.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Cairo Ojuogbo, on Saturday, claimed the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege worked against the emergence of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu.

Ojuogbo said Omo-Agege never believed Tinubu would win the presidential election, hence did not work for his emergence.

Speaking on Arise Television, the APC chieftain claimed that the deputy senate president worked for the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi during the last election.

He also dismissed claims that the Omo-Agege’s faction of the party expelled him from APC in Delta State.

According to Ojuogbo: “Omo-Agege did anti-party, he never believed Tinubu will win the presidential election, look at all his postal it was Peter Obi.

He never believed Tinubu would win the election; he never worked for his emergence.

“Look at the way he carried out his campaign in Delta State; he gathered small boys and used them.

He said he was in politics to injure people, after which he goes around begging leaders.”

Operators of tricycles, known as Keke NAPEP in Umuahia and Aba are to undergo biometric capturing and obtain rider’s permitin Abia State.

The permanent secretary, ministry of transport, Ijeoma Okere made this known in Umuahia, adding that rider’s permit would be issued after the biometric capturing exercise.

The riders, according to the statement, were advised to obey the directive in their own interest as enforcement of the policy would start in the State.

But some Keke NAPEP riders, who spoke on the proposed biometric verification, accused leaders of the tricycleunions of allegedly colluding with the State ministry of transport to make money from the them, arguing that the policy is more of revenue drive for the government.

However, some tricycle operators expressed their willingness to key into the biometric policy but appealed to the State government to make the rider’s permit affordable for them.

The State ministry of transport has always maintained that the policy was aimed at getting accurate date of Keke NAPEP operators in Abia, with a view to maintaining security and orderliness in the State.

Politics / Atiku’s Camp Raises Alarm Over Tinubu’s State Of Health, Whereabouts by hdaveyork(m): 12:56pm On Apr 13, 2023
One of Atiku’s spokespersons, Daniel Bwala, said Tinubu’s old photographs
were posted as new ones.
The camp of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku
Abubakar, has said Nigerians should pray for the President-elect, Bola Tinubu,
over his whereabouts.

Bwala said the posting of Tinubu’s old photograph suggests a cover-up
regarding his whereabouts and state of health.

He lamented that Nigerians are not asking about Tinubu’s whereabouts but
are focused on the presidential election petition.

Tweeting, Bwala wrote: “These unsolicited and unforced errors from Tinubu
camp of releasing Tinubu’s old photos and videos suggesting recent events
which have always been proved wrong suggest there may be a cover-up as to
the whereabouts and state of health of Tinubu.

“What Tinubu needs from us as patriots are prayers and not the nonsense
that the uncoordinated media minions around him continue to chunk out every
now and then.

“Members of the opposition parties are not talking about his health or
whereabouts but are focused on the election petition.

But this focus-less
media aids around him kept posting old photos and videos to suggest a
recent event.

Incompetence pro max.”

Fashion / Enugu Guber: AA Rejects Result, Drags Pdp’s Peter Mbah To Tribunal by hdaveyork(m): 7:43pm On Apr 12, 2023
Enugu guber: AA rejects result, drags PDP’s Peter Mbah to Tribunal

A copy of the AA’s Petition was acknowledged by the Tribunal on April 12,
2023.

The Action Alliance, AA, has asked the Enugu State Governorship Election
Petition Tribunal to nullify the declaration of Peter Mbah of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, as the winner of the March 18 election.

Joined as defendants are the Independent National Electoral Commission,
INEC, Mbah and the PDP, as the 1st, 2nd and 3rd defendants, respectively.
In the suit filed through its lawyer, John C. Nwobodo, the AA is praying the
Tribunal to nullify Mbah’s victory on the grounds of non-compliance with the
Electoral Act and other relevant guidelines.

The Chairman of the AA in Enugu State, Mr. Ogbonna Festus Okafor
confirmed to journalists that the petition was filed after it studied the
entire process of the election and allegedly observed that Mbah was
declared winner by the INEC despite obvious irregularities.

AA equally alleged that Mbah submitted a questionable National Youth
Service Corps, NYSC, certificate to the INEC and was therefore not qualified
to stand for the election.

It could be re-called that Barr.

Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party has also
gone to the Tribunal to challenge Mbah’s emergence.

Politics / Remove ‘Obidients’, Nigerians Will Be Faced With Tyranny – Shehu Sani by hdaveyork(m): 1:17pm On Apr 12, 2023
Former Nigerian lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has said that the supporters
of the Labour Party, LP, better known as ‘Obidients’, are giving the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, sleepless nights.

Sani, a social critic, in a tweet on Wednesday, claimed that if the supporters of the party were removed from the political space, the nation would be left with tyranny.

Recall that the candidate of LP is challenging the declaration of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of the February 25 election.

He wrote, “If you remove the supporters of the Labour Party from Nigeria’s political space, we will all have the peace and tranquillity we want and the tyranny we don’t want.”

Politics / Kogi 2024: Court Nullifies APC Congresses To Elect Candidate by hdaveyork(m): 12:46pm On Apr 12, 2023
Kogi 2024: Court nullifies APC congresses to elect candidate

The court voided the two congresses because they were not conducted in
compliance with the Electoral Act 2022 and the Constitution of the APC.

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday nullified and set aside the Ward
and Local Government congresses purportedly conducted on February 7 by
the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kogi to nominate its candidate for the
November governorship election.

Delivering judgment in a suit instituted by a group of aggrieved APC
members led by Realwan Okpanachi, Justice James Omotosho barred the
Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from using the unlawful
delegates list that emanated from unlawful congresses for the party to
select its governorship flagbearer.

Justice Omotosho, while nullifying the purported Ward and Local Government
congresses of February 7, ordered APC leadership to conduct fresh ones that
would be in compliance with Section 84 of the Electoral Act, 2022 and Section
13 of the party’s constitution.

In the judgment, Justice Omotosho agreed with the plaintiffs that the APC in
Kogi State failed to conduct Ward and Local Government congresses as
stipulated by relevant provisions of the law.

Among others, the Judge agreed with Chief Ogwu James Onoja, a Senior
Advocate of Nigeria SAN, and counsel to the plaintiffs, that the APC breached
Section 84 of the Electoral Act and Section 13 of its constitution by
concocting a purported list of delegates and submitting same to INEC
without the knowledge of registered members of the party in the state.

The Judge held that during the trial of the case, the APC failed to disclose
the venues and time where the purported Ward and Local Government
congresses were held and also failed to show the report of INEC officials
that purportedly monitored the elections.

Similarly, Justice Omotosho held that the APC failed to produce the result
sheet to show the scores recorded by the participants in the purported
congresses.

He noted that the major document put at the disposal of the court to justify
the conduct of the purported February 7 congresses did not contain a single
name of any human being but signatures of imaginary participants at the
purported congresses.

With the absence of names on the documents, the Judge held that the
exhibit was worthless and that no probate value can be attached to it
because it runs foul of Section 133 of the Evidence Act.

The court, therefore, ordered APC to conduct special Ward and Local
Government congresses in line with the provisions of the relevant laws,
especially Section 84 of the Electoral Act and Section 13 of the APC’s
Constitution.

Earlier, the Judge had dismissed the preliminary objections raised by APC that
the court has no jurisdiction to entertain the suit and that the plaintiffs
have no locus standi to file it while at the same time insisted that the cause
of action was its internal affairs.

Justuce Omotosho, while dismissing the preliminary objection held that APC
must conduct its affairs in accordance with the laws, adding that impunity as
exhibited in the instant case, will lead to anarchy.

The Judge also dismissed the claims of the APC that the plaintiffs are not Its
members but parading old membership cards, adding that the party ought to
have made its membership register available to the court to dispute the
membership claim of the plaintiffs.

Plaintiffs in the suit with number FHC/ABJ/CS/329/2023 are Realwan
Okpanachi, Yahaya Saidu Nuhu, Omaonu Clement Arome, Mustapha Ibrahim
Idoko, Aku Umar Goodman and Abu Steven Okpanachi Onechiojo, while the
two defendants are APC and INEC.

Politics / Tribunal: Dismiss PDP, Atiku’s Petition – APC Urges Presidential Tribunal by hdaveyork(m): 12:33pm On Apr 12, 2023
Tinubu’s victory: Dismiss PDP, Atiku’s petition – APC urges Presidential
tribunal

APC urged the tribunal to reject the petition in its notice of preliminary
objection marked: CA/PEPC/A/05/2023, NAN reports.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, on Wednesday, prayed the Presidential
Election Petition Tribunal to dismiss the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s
petition challenging the election of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu.

It noted that the tribunal lacked the jurisdiction to adjudicate on PDP’s
petition against Tinubu’s election.

Stressing that the claims of non-compliance must be proven on a polling unit
basis, APC said PDP failed to provide the particulars of polling units where
electoral fraud was perpetrated.

“The petition as presently constituted is devoid of necessary particulars to
support allegations of corrupt practices, violence and non-compliance with
provisions of the Electoral Act.

“Paragraph 35 of the petition is not relevant or cognizable and 84 is vague
as no specific figure or polling units are pleaded as the margin of lead to be
countered by the respondent,” the APC said.

The party urged the tribunal to strike out or dismiss PDP’s petition for
lacking merit.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had declared Tinubu
the winner of the last presidential election after polling the highest number
of votes.

Aggrieved by the announcement, PDP headed to the election tribunal to
contest the election outcome.

Ignore bad behaviours or wake up with terrible news headlines – Ezekwesili
warns

Ezekwesili said Nigerians have a lot of deep lessons to be learnt from the
just concluded February 25 presidential election.

A former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has warned that the
country might wake up with terrible news headlines from the rest of the
world if it continues to wave off consequences of bad behaviour.

In a series of tweets via her verified Twitter handle on Wednesday, the
former Minister lamented that Nigerians had become less trusting of the
judiciary allegedly because of strange rulings made by courts.

She said that the current demand by Nigerians for accurate and current
information from the proceedings at the election petition tribunal is well
justified and should be heeded to.

She wrote, “A society that habitually ignores consequences for bad
behaviour will wake up to a day when 2 of 3 Presidential Candidates of
parties can only generate terrible news headlines from the rest of the world.

“There are deep lessons from the #PresidentialElection2023 for Nigerians.

“I emphatically restate that #JudicialTransparency should be an overarching
goal for the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Supreme and Appeal Courts on the
#PresidentialElection2023 proceedings.

The CJN should advance our public interest and champion Live Broadcast of
hearings.

“Nigerians have become so much less trusting of the Judiciary evidently
because of strange rulings made by courts in some key election cases.

“So there is justified demand for the most accurate and current information
from the #PresidentialElectionTribunal proceedings. Heed it..”
