Politics / Re: Tinubu Emerges The Most Searched Presidential Candidate On Google by HealerH: 11:49am On Jan 02, 2023
Don't be deceived. Tinubu searches are not politically relevant.

I've searched him on Google and on YouTube a couple of times. It's mostly when I learnt he dropped an oratory gbagx... like when he dropped Emi l'okan, Agbado and the last search I did on him was when I heard he dropped Bulublablu.

Travel / Benefits Of Traveling Away From Your Family. by HealerH: 5:43pm On Aug 25, 2022
This is a personal reply to the topic: "Why is no one talking about this in Nigeria?"
https://www.nairaland.com/7296953/why-no-one-talking-nigeria

It is good the author didn't criminalize the cause of emigration outside of Nigeria which is the bad economy. Nigeria is currently having an economic crisis and people need to take care of their families.
The problem the author pointed out was the communal relationship of families that emigration affects and the laudatif significance Nigerians are giving to the "Japa" trend.

According to the author, family members suddenly lost their family bond after being separated for a long time. Secondly, traveling outside of Nigeria these days is something Nigerians boast about... Some even give testimony at their churches when they are granted Visas or when they get residential permit in their new country.

But I have my own opinion.
I've been separated from my family for years and I've lived outside of Nigeria. But I can tell you that being away from my family and my culture made me value and cherich them the more.
Almost everyone I know who have lived away from their families for a long time have my type of opinion. I don't need a lot of argument to convince you that familiarity builds "see finish" and disrespect. When you're rare to people, they value you.

I am of the opinion that people who have family problems after one member of the family travels away to another country are simply pouring out a sequence of a problem they used to have when that member was around. Distance for me can never make you lose your affection for someone. Au contraire... Except if there's a change in personality after the separation.

Now this is another personal opinion. I don't live for my family alone. I live for humanity first... If my family members are humane, then I'll live for them. Thank God they're humane.

So I'm not scared of being separated from my family. I'm only scared of being separated from humanity.

You are the lazy person refusing to use your brain.
What evidence do you have that
1. Atheists live an immoral lifestyle
2. That People with religion live a moral lifestyle

I think the opposite of what you said is true religion is a lazy man's excuse for so many terrible things e.g

The recent lynching of Deborah Yakubu was not done by atheists . It was JUSTIFIED IN THE NAME OF RELIGION
Religion is the one thing that requires people to suspend their brains

Blah blah blah.
I hate it when illiterates try to flex their mediocre views on my lines.

I'm a believer and I live an immoral life. But are we talking about believers here?

When a believer does things that contradict common sense or his religion, he/she can be accused of ignorance or hypocrisy.

There's no true Atheist that doesn't make use of his brain. So you can't actually accuse a true atheist of ignorance (I know why I said True Atheist... I used that expression so that empty-brained wannabe atheists [like you] don't mistake yourself for an authentic breed). And you can't also accuse a true atheist of hypocrisy because he doesn't adhere to any metaphysical principle. (Hypocrisy is when you accept a principle and still act against the principle..

You can only accuse an atheist of intellectual laziness because atheism is fundamentally borne out of man's intellectual limit. That person knows something. But not all he's supposed to know before making a conclusion.
You don't believe in God, not because you have a proof that he doesn't exist, but because you were able to prove someone's else's argument of God's existence to be wrong.

I said 3 + 3 = 12. You say I'm wrong.
Yet you're incapable of telling me the correct answer. That's what happens in atheism.
I said God exists and I give my arguments. You proved my argument to be wrong but you're incapable of proving that God doesn't exist.

The existence of things is not conditioned by our arguments or opinions of the things. Things exists/or do not exist and remain what they are independently of our opinion.

So I repeat. Atheism is a lazy man's excuse for not wanting to be morally responsible.
Now get lost.

Politics / Re: See How Much Ignorant You Are Of Democracy. by HealerH: 11:59pm On May 20, 2022
I just hope my text isn't so vague that you didn't see where I'm driving to.
The topic says "See how ignorant you are of democracy". After reading my text, do think you're ignorant of what democracy is about?
Do you still believe that the vote of everyone should be considered in elections? And even if all votes should be considered, do you think all who votes are intelligent enough to choose a president for the entire country?
Wait wait. Before I forget.

I actually got the idea to right this because I've read many times here on Nairaland texts like these: "Abeg go face your candidate and campaign for him. No dey criticize other people's candidates..." "Market your candidate and allow me to market mine"

So someone in a country of over 200 million people has the guts to affirm they have a presidential candidate? You can't believe how ignorantly dangerous such a mindset is. This mindset, like I showed up there, is powered by the democratic belief that every adult is ENTITLED to voting. And this Democratic belief is birthed in the second definition of democracy I gave up there.

Brethren, Democracy is our government, by us and for us. It is not our government, by YOU and for us. No.
You might be entitled to call that person your candidate. But be sincere deep inside you. Do you want to vote for him because of the possessive pronoun "MY" before the noun "candidate" or because you put the country first.

Remember... Remember...There's someone in this country with you that'll rather have Sharia nationalized than have 24h electricity. And since all indices points to the fact that Shekau (the rumored leader of Boko Haram) will most likely nationalize Sharia if given the chance to be the President, there's someone out there sharing this country with you who will prefer Shekau as President of this country rather than that person you call "My Candidate". It's cool is you say "God forbid" to that "someone's" plan. But it's pure hypocrisy if that someone is you and that Your Candidate is Shekau Pro Max.

One more time. Democracy is our government, by us and for us. It's not your government, it's not solely by you and it's not for you alone. Bro, I hope you're thinking about the rest of the country when next you say "My Candidate".

Stay blessed.

Democracy is said to be birthed in ancient Greece. It gradually developed to what we have today. Back in the days of the Greeks, Democracy was their pride. But there was someone among them who hated Democracy and suggested a different type of political system. His name was Socrates.
Socrates is undebatably one of the brightest mind to ever walk this planet. Yet he was a critic of Democracy. When I'm done exposing Socrates' reason for disliking democracy, you'll see for yourself how intelligent the man was.

(Should in case you don't know, Socrates actually never wrote a book or any article. Most of the texts and ideas credited to him were written down by his student, Plato.)
So in one of Plato's book, he recorded an event where Socrates was having a political argument with one Adeimantus. Socrates was trying to show him the flaws of Democracy by comparing the State to a Ship.
He asked Adeimantus if he would prefer just anyone onboard a ship he was sailing with to captain the ship or if he would prefer someone educated is Ship-sailing. Adeimantus replied that he would prefer someone educated in Ship sailing. Then Socrates asked him why he allows (in the name of democracy) every old person in the City to vote for a candidate of their choice in elections. Why do he believe that any old person is fit to judge who should be a ruler of a country?

Socrates’ point is that voting in an election is a skill, not a random intuition. And like any skill, it needs to be taught systematically to people. Letting the citizenry vote without an education is as irresponsible as putting them in charge of a Ship sailing from Taiwan to Apapa in a storm.
If the primary criterion for eligibility in electoral voting is "AGE", then old "idiots" have the right too to vote... Except if you want to tell me that "idiots" don't exist in our society, or that the ones among us are not citizens of our country, or that they never come of age.
And by virtue of the democratic slogan: "all votes count", the vote of an idiot can determine who rules you for 4 years. Think about it.

And if you need to know, some charges were brought up against Socrates and he was later condemned to death and made to drink "poison". And funny enough, his condemnation was decided by voting.

Socrates criticized democracy and suggested a political system headed by a Philosopher King. Back then a Philosopher is an epitome of Wisdom, understanding, Knowledge. He has explanations to almost all human problems. (Mind you I said EXPLANATIONS and not SOLUTIONS). A philosopher in Ancient Greek has the same social significance as an Oracle (Dibia) in Ancient Igbo Society. The only difference is that the Dibia receives the explanations he gave from some metaphysical and intuitional sources (inaccessible to others) whereas the Philosopher gets his explanation from critical thinking of which any other person can attain if they work on their mind. You can search up "Socratic method" on the internet to see how Socrates gave knowledge to people by making the people bring out the knowledge itself from themselves. Back to the Philosopher King.

For Socrates, the society will be best managed by the brightest mind of the society. But how to bring this brightest mind to power is where all the problem lies.
Since the history of mankind, the brightest minds of societies have always been hated and avoided. And when you check the facts well, you'll realize those brightest minds were hated mainly by their contemporaries who don't measure up to their intelligence... Socrates, Jesus Christ, Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo, Friedrich Nietzsche, Nikola Tesla, Martin Luther King...
And you know, for the fact that "majority carries the vote", these bright minds didn't end up well with people of their epoch because the majority opinion was against them.

So if the brightest political mind in a country contests for the post of president, he is most unlikely to win the election because history shows that no man who has been intellectually ahead of his contemporaries ever get to be wanted by his contemporaries. The only method by which super-brilliant minds use to ascend to political positions seems to be oligarchy or monarchy. And we know how these system of government always end... Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. That's why these kind of government easily breeds tyranny. And Tyranny is the last form of government Socrates would opt for.

So, Socrates ended up showing the flaws of democracy and suggesting a perfect system of government to replace democracy but he has no idea how to go about implementing his Philosopher King system of government.

First off, good day.

I'll go straight to the point of what I want to say.

1. Democracy is "a government of the people, by the people and for the people".... This is the basic definition.

2. "Democracy is a system of government where every citizen of a given country has a right to live, express themselves and (if of age) vote for any candidate of their choice...." This is the wrong and dangerous definition alloyed with ignorance. The error here lies on the clause: "...vote for any candidate of their choice."

I'll start by showing how false and dangerous this second definition is before explaining (if need be) the intelligence in the first definition and why it's the perfect definition of democracy.

Worthy of mention are certain Videos I found during my cultural promenade on YouTube. These aren’t Music from Igbo people but I bet any lover of culture would be mesmerized by their melody. First is Fally Ipupa's “Eloko Oyo”. I think I’ve heard the instrumental of the song in a Nollywood movie and I believed it was one of those Igbo background instrumentals in Nollywood movies. Second is Olamide's “Abule Sowo”. The person that introduced my to this song is not even a Nigerian and with this song, she won a soft spot in my heart ever since. The last song is Alexandro Querevalù's “The Last of the Mohicans”. I don’t even know how to describe this piece of Art. Simply Heart-touching.
Please drop the name of a Music video that presents your culture to the World. I'll be excited to check it out.

My take is that national Evaluation of artistic works is a waste of time. Arts speaks to us differently because we feel things differently. Let’s embrace this difference by respecting each other’s taste of Art. And Award-giving Artistic institutions should stop making a fool of the human soul. They should stop presenting a certain musical work as “BEST”. Bro that’s musical colonization.
If we really agreed that Colonialism is a no respecter of Cultural differences, we should be bold enough to murder the little colonial masters in us that vote our taste of culture (Music) over other people’s taste.

Haven said this, I’m doing a personal research on Cultural Music all around the world. I want to know about many cultures because I feel that the true identity of a people can be perceived through their cultural Music. And I feel it is possible to be touched emotionally by the music of a foreign culture. I got seduced to do this after reading a lot of comments from people from all over the world who gushed out their admiration for my culture. It feels emotional to read a text from someone who doesn’t even understand your language say the melody of your music touches their soul.
So please, tell me a Music (Especially if it’s a Music video on YouTube) that presents a lot about your culture. Let the song be on your native language and let the attire and dance be dominantly native.
I start by telling you I’m Igbo. My favorite Igbo musician is Flavour. He exposes a lot of the Igbo culture is his songs. I recommend these ones for you: “Mmege Mmege”., “Egwu ndi Oma” and “Umu Igbo” if you want to feel the Igbo Culture. And Read especially the YouTube comments on the videos. It’s impressive how many foreigners connect to these songs.
Culture / Re: One Music Video That Presents Your Culture to the World. by HealerH: 3:29pm On May 01, 2022
I wonder if you know Where I’m heading to with this. See, music is art. Art is fundamentally spiritual. It germinates first inside your mind before being exteriorized. And whoever that consumes it doesn’t consume a material product like biscuits that can be measured. The consumption of arts is spiritual, just like its germination. Now, the question is: “how do Award-giving Musical academies measure the musical validness of a music?”
Read that question on the last line of the precedent paragraph again. You might rush to reply “the lyrics determine the musical validness of a piece of music”. But that’ll be a wrong answer, except if you didn’t agree with me that Music is art and is spiritual.
See? Mathematics, Logics, Lyrical correctness (of a musical work) have nothing to do with the spiritual life. These things are activities of the brain. A universal correct answer can be established in things that are related to the brain (1 + 1 = 2 everywhere) but not things related to the soul… unfortunately arts is majorly related to the soul. So I asked you again : “how do Award-giving Musical academies measure the musical validness of a music?”
I believe music is art and that Art is fundamentally spiritual. If you believe the same, you’ll have to agree with the rest of my writeup. If you don’t believe so, I’ll be willing to know what you think or believe about that nature of music.
Lemme start by asking you to open a new Tab on your device and make a Google Image search on “Michelangelo artworks”. When you’re done enjoying his Paintings, make another Google search on “Leonardo da Vinci artwork”. When you’re done, search up “Ben Onwowu artwork”. Finally, search up “Pablo Picasso artwork”.
I don’t want to ask you who among the four artist is the best. I want to ask you : who do you think is the worst? Your guess is probably my guess. E go shock you now. Go back on your new Tab and search “best painters of all time”. I bet the person you called the worst painter here will be on top 3 on your Google search. There are good artists you know that you’ll never see on any list you find on the Internet. With what criteria do people evaluate Artworks? Lemme spit this out sef…
Believe me when I tell you that if you enter a Paint Store in Malaga, Spain and shout “Michelangelo is better than Picasso!”, the consequences of your declaration might be comparable to someone who enters a Mosque in Saudi Arabia and shots “Jesus is Lord!”. If you don’t gerrit, forgerabourit.
Culture / One Music Video That Presents Your Culture to the World. by HealerH: 3:28pm On May 01, 2022
Hi World. This is going to be a long text. Don't be discouraged please.
I’m convinced that Nairaland is more than a Nigerian forum. It's International, in one way or the other. So I’m writing this hoping that a larger range of audience gets to see it, read it and contribute to it.

I’m from Nigeria. I feel like I’ve seen a lot of the world, especially cultural differences of the world. And one thing I realized is that cultural values and exhibitions have a kind of spiritual impact on people… not only those who practise them. For my fellow atheists who don’t like reading of words like “spiritual”, “mystical”, “supernatural”, etc, lemme use a more appeasing word… So I was saying that cultural values have a certain manipulative power on the human mind. You’ll need to be at a certain level of cultural Nihilsm to not be manipulated by cultures. Check this out.
Can you seat comfortably (in a bus or Train or Flight) beside some homosexuals who are romancing without being psychologically troubled. Will you be at peace with your mind the same way you’ll be at peace with your mind if it was some couple singing a song you know? I think People tend to be at peace with actions that conform more to their culture than they’ll be with actions that are alien to their culture. And they tend to label actions that contradict their cultures as immoral or evil. I’ve realized that most cultural values have been unable to unite humanity. Nobody wants to accept the other's values as the best.
But there’s this certain cultural exhibition I’ve seen in every culture on earth. It’s so common among cultures that it makes me wonder if we should classify it as a cultural exhibition or a natural exhibition among people. For me, it is as natural as laughing, sleeping, crying,… The only problem is that it is learnt. They call it MUSIC. But you know the funny thing? There exist national and international institutions that have been charged with evaluating musical works and to tell the public which musical piece is the BEST… They give awards to the best musical piece of work annually.

I pointed out the cultural nature of religions. Believers of different religions expose their religion's culture in football.
What is wrong with any other person exposing their culture in football, whether the person's culture be religious or not? Definitely, the problem is that this other person's cultural exposure is a taboo in your own religion.

You do the sign of the cross. The other fellow does a limp wrist. Your own sign doesn't cause social tumult but you're afraid the other fellow's sign will cause social tumult.
Can't you just pretend that the other fellow's sign doesn't have any meaning?

Hypocrisy everywhere.

Football today is more than a Sportive activity. It has the qualities of a religion. It has it's values, morals and laws just like every other religion.

I see Christian players do the sign of the cross in a football match. And most European flags in a football activity has the cross on them.

I see Muslim players do Islamic gestures. And most Islamic flags in a football activity has the half-moon on them.

You bring your belief into football but you're worried that someone else should bring in their own belief.

If you want to be logical in your argument, be critical and logical. I hate mediocre reasoning.
