No idea of the cost but a 330i of same generation cost 40m, the 340i should exceed that by a little margin

The 340i is a lot more expensive than the 330i.

I have very little context so pardon me. I am responding to this purely on the face of the comment. I have been a solar user now for over 8 years. My first system was a 1.2kw (inverter) paired with a 480w solar and 2 Tubular batteries. That system paired with the grid was able to power basic house loads including a 130L chest freezer. The freezer ran for 4 hours a day.

I later upgraded the inverter to 2.4kw (Axpert inverter) and pared it with 1.8kw solar (and same Tubular battery as before) and ran the house completely off-grid from this setup for over 2 years (no NEPA setup)

In all I ran a 24v system from 2016 - 2022 and had most of my basic loads like fridge, freezer, occasional microwave, occasional ironing etc.

Of cause I did not run all the powerful loads all at ones but my point is, design design design. System design is 80% of the work on solar.

Key is performing a proper energy audit. Designing your system around the result of your energy audit. I used 2 tubular batteries, 2.4kw inverter and 1.8kw solar panels to power a 2 bedroom apartment completely off-grid and I lived quite comfortably (as comfortable as you can live without AC LOL)

Even now with a much upgraded system, you can check my daily usage averages at about 1.5kw (when I have 1 AC a freezer, fridge, fan, lots of computers - running in my home lab including a 64 Terabyte NAS with 64g ram and 8 core AMD Ryzen) all of this is running on less than 2kw and when AC is off house load drops to less than 1kw. My VRM numbers is there for anyone to see https://vrm.victronenergy.com/installation/453590/share/df9180a7

People don't use as much power as they think. It is fine and very possible to use a lean prudent, low power system you just have to have the whole system well designed from load to generation to storage.

I wrote a post about lean systems where I talked about how to perform a proper audit https://blog.openculture.org.ng/of-a-budget-solar-inverter-system-energy-audit/

I also made a video of my 24v solar setup back in 2018 which I shared here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmuA2sU_oIQ?si=6gG1Uw-av7SPaHaS

Can't reiterate this nearly enough. People don't use anywhere near as much power as they assume, really.

My typical usage is about 250w, which is a fridge, freezer, rechargeable fan, a small sound system, and a laptop and phones charging.

There are days when I don't turn on any of the TVs, or ACs, or appliances like microwave, air fryer, etc. And on those days, it's really just my inverter supplying that 250w of power all day.

It's nice to have the capacity to run heavy duty appliances, but most people will be able to survive on really basic setups just fine.

Oh, I get it now.

Thanks boss.

Sorry for my many questions.

Does that mean the combined capacity of the battery is now 400A?

No. They're connected in series, so voltage increases, not current.

Good morning house,
Please is it posible to achieve 100% solar panel wattage in lagos.?
am intending to install 4500 watts pv on a 4000 watt max inverter. Max voltage have been considered to be lower than max voltage requirment.
Thanks for your response in anticipation

Don't think so. Temperatures in Nigeria mean you'll never get more than 85-90% of rated output.

Most I've ever gotten for example is ~1500w from my 1740w array.

As long as Vsc is within spec, you'll be fine.

Understatement of the year...
10M after 5 tedious years
What do you get?

Increasing Payment Burden
Total Payment is Higher
Lack of Flexibility
Unclear Ownership Benefits
Potential for Missed Payments
Repairs and service charges

Especially since you can build that exact setup right now with ~5m.

This week we got news that we have finally been dumped on Bandit A.

I immediately removed some of the few things still left og EKEDC to inverter.

1. Electric boiler - moved
2. Microwave - moved
3. Outdoor security lights - Pending when electrician comes
4. Washing machine - partially. I use extension box.

Observation.
-So far so good, its going well.
- I recorded harvest peak at 3.3kW for the first time too.
- My solar panels are split in two separate locations. The ground mounted has started seeing better radiation.

They also moved us to Band A without warning last month.

Grid is effectively just for running the fridge once I go to bed + heaters in the morning. Otherwise, I'm on inverter all the time. Band A too expensive abeg.

If you have a small budget it's best to go for lead acid which serves it's own purpose.

For example, Luminous Voltcharge tubular battery is rated at 1,600 cycles at 80% depth of discharge. That's roughly 4.3 years lifespan and works out to 9.7 naira per kWh if you cycle it once a day.

Average lifepo4 batteries like felicity have 3,000 cycles at 80% depth of discharge and cost around 1.3m for a 5kwh battery. It works out to 10.8 naira per kwh if you also cycle it once per day.

So you can see that cost per kilowatt hour wise there is little difference. Performance wise lifepo4 main advantage over tubular are it's tolerance for high current charging, it's lightweight and relatively low maintenance requirements.

Glad to see you added this, because they're exactly what make Lifepo4 a better deal regardless of any possible #/kwh disadvantages.

It's just superior technology at the end of the day. The fact that the #/kwh is even so close is a bonus.

Please can I use a 300w solar panel and 450w panel together for my system?
I already have 4pcs of 300w panels, and I'm intending to get 2pcs of 450w panel. Is this obtainable? I'll really appreciate your feedback.

Lots of factors involved.

VOC and ISC of the panels.

VOC and ISC of the inverter/charge controller.

Need this information to know the best way to wire them up for minimal power loss.

What an unpleasant setup. Excellent inverter, plenty PVs, and then completely ruined by the battery choice.

Good evening, a JJC here. I just installed a new system which has a 15kwh Felicity lithium battery, 10kva Felicity inverter, 120amps Felicity MPPT charge controller with 12 550watts Canadian Cells Solar panels (the engineer connected them in 3 series of 4 panels). However, the PV numbers I am getting doesn't add up (maximum of 700-800 at peak sunlight) and i can confirm this because it takes an average of 3-4 bright days (without using the system at all) to fully charge the battery. I have an old system with 12 300 watts panels and more than 2kw PV at peak sunlight from that one. I have called the engineer and explained this to him but he hasnt said anything meaningful. Please, are these numbers normal all theres obviously something wrong with his connection? Below is a screenshot of the MPPT readings around past 4pm on a bright sunny day.

800w from a 6600w array is diabolical. You should be getting 5000w+ at peak irradiance.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by HeavenlyBang(m): 12:34pm On Aug 09
RickyM:

No MPPT has a 100% conversion rate, what charges a battery is current not high voltage so even though MPPT are meant to convert the excess voltage to current it’s not a 1:1 thing as there is nothing like a perfect system.

Any decent MPPT will give you 90%+ efficiency.

Why not just get a higher voc cc. On the long run it would be cheaper and easier
I know powmr 60amps cc is about 150v and about 95k

Seconded. High amperage just means considerably higher cable costs, not sure why anyone would want that.

Hello house,
please is there any implication for mixing 435watt panels with 440watts or 400watt,
the set up is 435watts but now we want to increase the PV but there is no 435watts jinko so we are looking foward to buy more panels

If connected in series, just make sure the new panel VOC is in a similar range as the existing ones.
