RABBIT MEAT AS A NATURAL CURE FOR HYPERTENSION/HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND STROKE:
One of the best white meats available on the market today, rabbit meat contains a higher than average percentage of easily digestible protein. It is also high in calcium, phosphorous, niacin (B3), iron, and selenium and is a good source of Vitamin B12. These minerals and vitamins are important for bone, teeth, and central nervous system health, digestion, cellular repair, pain reduction, brain and muscle health, metabolism, and more.
For example, a one piece serving of rabbit meat, cooked (299 g) contains:
517 calories or 26% of a person’s daily values (DV)
7 grams of protein (197% of DV)
1 mg of Niacin (96% of DV)
5 mg of Iron (81% of DV)
4 mcg of Selenium (65% of DV)
8 mg of Calcium (5% of DV) and
718 mg of Phosphorous (72% of DV).
At only 706 calories per pound, rabbit meat is also noticeably leaner in both calories and fat than other available meat alternatives such as chicken (810 calories/lb), turkey (1190 calories/lb) and beef (1440 calories/lb). It also has lower moisture content than pre-packaged meats at 27.9% per pound versus chicken at 67.6%, turkey at 58.3%, lean beef at 55%, and lamb at 55.8%.
Rabbit meat also has a noticeably higher meat to bone ratio and contains only 63% unsaturated fatty acids. A single serving cooked (299 g) contains 419 mg of Omega 3 fatty acids and 1615 mg of Omega 6 fatty acids. Both Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids have been known to help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke while reducing the symptoms of hypertension, depression, ADHD, joint pain, and certain skin ailments among other health issues.
Rabbit meat is also 100% cholesterol and carbohydrate free, making it ideal for those requiring special diets (i.e. heart patients) or those looking to maintain a healthy overall body weight. Recognized by the US Department of Agriculture as the most nutritious meat known to man, the addition of rabbit meat to any diet will be beneficial to a person’s overall health and well-being

HealthWhy Rabbit Meat Is The Best For Pregnant Women by Helenbims(op): 8:56pm On Oct 20, 2017
WHY RABBIT MEAT IS THE BEST FOR PREGNANT WOMEN
Incase you don't know. Rabbit meat is the meat that contained the best protein, which is 21% of the total weight.

What is the function of the protein in the body? It contributes to construction, transportation, production of energy and performs the protective function of the enzyme. All immunoglobulins, all protective antibodies are proteins. And it is impossible to build a future body without protein!

Pregnancy is an amazing process, especially when you think what tremendous growth the fetus undergoes in a woman‘s body. From a completely invisible cell, it turns into a human being weighing about 3 kg in just 9 months. Of course, this requires a protein. It is also worth saying that rabbit meat is the lowest in cholesterol and is the most hypoallergenic meat.

Inspiring Start-ups: Kwame Owusu Basoah, a would-be Career Diplomat turns rabbit farmer
September 26, 2016
Source: Obed Attah Yeboah| thebftonline| Ghana
This is an inspiring story of a young man who was determined to become a Career Diplomat after his university education but ended up becoming a rabbit farmer. How?
Background:
Kwame Owusu Basoah, the CEO of Basoah Agric Centre, was born at Old Tafo, Kumasi, to Mr. Yaw Asamoah Basoah and Mrs. Nancy Asamoah Basoah, and he is the second of five children.
He had his basic education at UST Junior High School. and continued at the Prempeh College, Kumasi, and completed in 2001. He then proceeded to the University of Ghana, Legon, where he graduated with a degree in Political Science in 2007.
While growing up, Kwame Basoah developed a keen interest in becoming a Career Diplomat. So after his university education, he took a course at the Ghana Foreign Service that would qualify him to land his dream job. But Kwame waited for the results, which never came.
He was, however, determined to get something doing. So he decided that by the end of the first quarter of 2009, if he did not hear the needed response from the Foreign Service or get any other suitable job, he would go back to his hometown and engage in farming.
And so it happened. The call never came. But the question is, why did farming, a profession often regarded as belonging to the unlettered in the society, and is not attractive to the young generation, fall among the options of jobs that Kwame wanted to do?
He explains: “Farming has always been something I am used to. So initially, my plan was that after working as a career diplomat for some time, I will retire early and venture into farming. Growing up, we had a lot of land around our house and my father used to grow maize and cowpea. So through that I had my own garden and I used to plant any crop I came across. I remember I was just around seven years old at the time. So that is where my interest in agriculture started”.
How harvest at church blessed Kwame with rabbits
Another interesting bit about Kwame’s story is how he first came into contact with rabbits, the small mammal whose lean meat is relished for its low fat. And it started from church.
“I remember when I was a young boy, we went to church and it was harvest time (a period where members of the church take along goods and sell to each other so the proceeds could be used as offering). So one woman brought rabbit and my father bought it for us so we would use it for supper when we went home.
But when we went home it was late and so we couldn’t kill the rabbit. So we put it in a hen coop. The next day when we decided to go and take the rabbit from the hen coop to kill it, it had given birth to ten. We didn’t know it was pregnant. Since I was the only boy, it was natural that I took care of them.
So I went to the woman who sold it to us to find out how we could take care of the rabbit and its young ones. She tutored me and right from there I started being their care taker.”
Kwame was so excited about his new responsibility at home. He woke up early in the morning every day and went to look for Milk Bush for the rabbits. As time went by, the young ones grew and the rabbits continued to multiply in number.
But as he climbed the educational ladder, Kwame had to devote much of his time to his academic pursuit, especially as his basic education examination drew nigh. So his family agreed the rabbits be sold so he could have time for his books.
But the fondness for rabbit farming did not leave Kwame, and so even after earning a university degree, he has decided it must be his career.
The rabbit business
As Kwame missed out on becoming a Career diplomat, he wasted no time but packed his luggage and went to his hometown, Old Tafo in Kumasi, to kick-start a new business.
How he would start now became a challenge. He didn’t have any sizeable land at home to start the rabbit farm. But there was a way out for him.
“We had a family friend who was a poultry farmer. She had a piece of land available near the poultry farm which was not in use. So I went to beg her to allow me use that land for some time while I look for a bigger space. Then she agreed.”
Next, Kwame had to find a hutch to house the rabbits. Here again, another window opened. His Sunday School teacher who reared rabbits could no longer keep up with the demands of the work as a result of ill-health. So Kwame bought his hutches along with four female rabbits and two males. That marked the beginning of Basoah Agric Centre.
As the proverb goes: ‘we do not test the depth of a river with both feet’, and so Kwame did not start but did a little market research to determine how viable the business is. He went around some rabbit farms to get vital information which would help him know the best practices to adopt.
How he markets them
Kwame started his business in April 2009 and by January 2010, he had close to 500 rabbits. The rabbits were thus ready for sale. How would he sell them? He printed “Rabbits for sale” on A4 sheets and pasted it at vantage points during the Easter festive season. Within some few days, people started calling and to his utmost astonishment, all 500 rabbits got finished within two weeks.
Presently, Kwame says his rabbitry has the capacity for 1,500 rabbits, although he does around 800 for now.
To market his products, he takes advantage of food fairs. He has moved from selling the live rabbits to processing the meat and packaging it, which he also distributes to some restaurants.
He takes the opportunity at any gathering he attends to mention his products to attendees and explain the health benefits of eating rabbit meat.
Rabbit meat is said to be relatively low in fat and in cholesterol, but is a good source of protein, vitamins and minerals.
Challenges
Kwame Basoah had to contend with internal challenges. As a young man who had just completed a prestigious university with most of his colleagues securing what many term as a white-collar jobs, his parents were initially not pleased when he wanted to be a rabbit farmer. They saw it then as a dent on the family’s image, since members of the community could ridicule his choice of career as a graduate.
Aside his parents lack of support, other well-meaning people who he discussed the business idea with discouraged him, asking questions like, “how many people eat rabbit in this country”?
But Kwame was not perturbed by these questions. He was determined to try and succeed.
Another major challenge he faced when starting up was the non-availability of information. “It is a new sector where there is not much local research. So it was difficult to find information which pertains to Ghana.”
But a challenge which he still grapples with is that, awareness about the rabbit sector has received little attention in the country. Unlike poultry, rabbit has not been championed by government as a way to grow the economy.
He also had challenges raising enough capital to expand as the business grew.
How education played a role
“I think my educational background has played a very good role in my business. It has made me proficient in the English language and so I am able to speak at any gathering I attend. This has helped me in marketing my products. It has also helped me to research on my own, plan ahead and also take calculated risks.”
Vision
“It is my vison that Basoah Agric Centre will become the largest producer and supplier of quality rabbit meat, rabbit breeding stock and rabbit manure for farmers. We also want to be the largest exporters of the meat in the near future.”
How government can help
Kwame believes if the same attention is given to the rabbit sector as it is done to poultry, the economy will stand to benefit immensely.
“I am not asking government solely for financial assistance. What I would rather ask government is to give us a platform which will promote the health benefits and business gains from the rabbit sector. Just as a platform was given to Guinea fowls, same should also be given to the rabbit sector.”
His advice to the youth
Kwame Basoah thinks his fellow graduates who are waiting to be employed by companies should take the bull by the horn and venture into agriculture. He urges them not to see agriculture as a profession for the uneducated but seize the opportunity and create jobs for others through agriculture.
Kwame is also encouraging his colleague graduates in agriculture to motivate the youth to venture into the sector. He has set the example by training over 200 people in rabbit farming.
Together with his friend Godfred, they have formed a group called the Graduate Farmers Association of Ghana which is about to be launched. The group has the aim of advocating policies which will motivate graduates to move into agriculture.
Kwame Basoah says he does not regret using his university degree to farm rabbits

AgricultureWhy Rabbit Farming Is Far Better And More Profitable Than Grass Cutter Farming by Helenbims(op): 11:06am On Aug 23, 2017
WHY RABBIT FARMING IS FAR BETTER AND PROFITABLE THAN GRASS CUTTER FARMING.

Grasscuter business is not that profitable as rabbit business. The only issue with rabbit as at today is general awareness of its benefits.
Grasscutter gestation period is almost 5months and one can kindle an average of 5 and you will have to wait for 3months before you can sell in family or for meat.
Let's assume you bought a family for 70k at 3month old, you waited for 2months before you cross them and 5months to kindle plus another 3months to market it, making a total of 10months before u can start selling.
Let's assume each female kindle 5 x 4=20

Compare to rabbit farming.
you can use 70k to get 14rabbits
2males and 12females.
Let's assume they are crossed instantly.
At the end of a month they all give birth.
Let's assume each gave birth to average of 5, that's 5x12=60, you Waited for 2months to market. And you are able to sell each for 2,000 x 60=120k
Let's assume they kindle 5times in 10months
= 120k x 5=600k.
What business can give you this amount within a short time with less stress apart from Rabbit Farming? This is the more reason why you need to start one today.

AgricultureRabbit Farming Business: An Ignored But Cool Money Making Business In Nigeria by Helenbims(op): 10:36am On Aug 17, 2017
RABBIT FARMING: ANOTHER WAY OF INCREASING YOUR INCOME

Rabbit farming is a profitable business that can give good return within six months. Rabbits belong to the category of micro-livestock because of their small nature. Rabbits are very easy to raise even in a small space and of course, highly prolific, moreover, they grow very fast. Rabbit can provide a good quality and healthy source of protein (white meat) for family. Rabbit meat contains high protein ratio, energy, calcium and vitamin than any other species of animal. Rabbit meat contains low cholesterol and sodium with a distinct taste.
A mature rabbit weighing 4 – 5kg is sold between N4,000 – N8,000. Gestation period of a female rabbit (doe) is between 28 – 32 days and can give birth to 6 kids on average. A doe can give birth 5 – 6 times in a year. Species of rabbit include, New Zealand White, New Zealand Black, New Zealand Red, Flemish giant, Belgium White and Chinchilla.
To raise rabbit profitably, you need to consider the following;
Breed Selection: Select good breed/parent stock based on your preference however, it is important to select breed that is healthy, active but calm. A mature male usually have big scrotum. To check for sexual maturity, hold penis in between your thumb and your first finger and slide it downwards towards the loin, this will distend the shaft of the penis and the sperm duct will protrude, it makes sharp protrusion then it is sexually matured and if otherwise, it is not sexually matured.
Housing: Battery cage system (Intensive system) is the best way to raise large number of rabbit. They can as well be raised on deep litter system on floor with bedding (from wood shavings, maize stubbly, etc). In battery cage system, rabbits are kept in a cage (hutch) made of iron or wood. The hutch should have space for drinker, feeder and kindling box. The hutch should be kept in a shade place having cross ventilation Male and female rabbit should be kept separately from each other unless during mating. This system allows easy harvesting of urine; rabbit urine contains 46% Nitrogen which can be used as fertilizer for crops.
Feeding: Feed consumption rate and nutrient requirements varies according to rabbit age and species. Commercial poultry feed (like grower mash) can be served to rabbits. They should be given sufficient water according to their demand. Its feed should contain 17-18 percent crude protein, 14 percent fiber, 7 percent minerals and 2700 kilo calorie/kg of metabolic energy. Green leafy vegetables, seasonal vegetable, spinach greens, Triadax procumbens, carrots, Muller, cucumber, green grass and vegetable waste can easily be used as feed for rabbit. The feeders and drinkers can be made of concrete materials. A lactating mother needs concentrate two times a day.
Reproduction: The female rabbit are naturally shy, the workers should keep away, the female should be taken to the male for mating and never put a male in the female cage. Use bigger male for crossing and after successful crossing, the male fall off the female with its back on the floor with typical sound. Separate the two after mating. Best time for crossing is between 5 and 7am in the morning. Pregnancy can be confirmed with hand after 15 day. A pregnant rabbit looks attractive and prefers more rest. Gestation period is between 28 – 32 days. The mother is separated from the kittens after one month and put for crossing again. Kittens are born blind and can remain for 8 - 10 days hence they need to be helped to get milk from their mother and should be protected from cold. Avoid touching the kittens with bare hand.
Biosecurity: Ensure the hutch and shed are kept clean. Remove faeces, urine and waste food materials from the hutch and floor.
Pest and Diseases: Block soldier ants entry into the shed and hutch. Proper management will keep the rabbit free from diseases and pests.

AgricultureHow To Make Cool Cash With Minimal Stress From Rabbit Raring Business by Helenbims(op): 10:26am On Aug 17, 2017
HOW TO MAKE COOL CASH WITH MINIMAL STRESS FROM RABBIT REARING.

Rabbit farming is a Cool Business we have really looked down on in Nigeria, it is not really appreciated yet it gives prospects on earning cool cash.
Rabbits are very prolific animals, they reproduce very fast. Their pregnancy is 30-32 days and can give birth to the range if 4-10 kits.
THE ANALYSIS
If you have 4 females and 1 male, when they produce at maturity let's say average of 7 kits that's 4*7= 28 kits
After 6 weeks u separate them from their mothers. When they are 2 months u sell them off @ average price of 2000 earning #56,000.
You mate their mothers again and they produce after a month again. By doing this the mothers can produce like 4-5 times a year and you can expand to get more.
FEEDING
Rabbit are fed with leaves and concentrates. It is called pellets or you can feed the normal chicken feed if not available. A bag of concentrate cost #3000-#3800. The bag can feed the 5 rabbits for 2 months. That's #1,900 per month. Rabbits feeds on residues of carrot, cabbage, watermelon too, so those are no cost.
LATEST RESEARCH
Latest research work shows that rabbit meat is the most nutritious meat available to man. Very rich in protein and low in fat. Good for diabetic and hypertensive patients and can be eaten by any age category, and religion.
The truth is that waht some of us eat as bush meats/games at Restaurants are Rabbit Meats. They are now been used as assorted meats in restaurants, hotels. They can be packaged frozen, roasted or grilled.
Let me also let you know that a matured rabbit for slaughtering or breeding costs Between #5000- #8000.
Rabbits do not make noise, very quiet animals, Odourless unlike Chicken and Pigs and easy to handle. This is what I do so I just felt I should share dis with you as my spirit leads, I know it is for someone this morning.

AgricultureRabbit Farming Business: The Secret of The Backyard Millionaire by Helenbims(op):
Rabbit farming business in Nigeria can be a very profitable business for any entrepreneur who is knowledgeable in animal husbandry. Unlike other livestock farming, rabbit business is a low capital investment as it does not require too much money to start up. However, it requires in depth knowledge of the animals, how to raise them and which customers to market to.
Every part of the rabbit is useful; the skin for leather shoe and bag making factories, furs for manufacturing clothes, bone for the production of livestock feed , meat for consumption, live rabbits for testing specimens by laboratories. So it is in the hands of the potential rabbit breeder to determine to whom he should sell his rabbits. Hence the target market is high, Do you want to start rabbit farming business in Nigeria? Then, here are basic factors to consider if success is to be attained.
Production – Rabbits are polygamous in nature and multiply rapidly. Rabbits start breeding at 4 to 5 months of age. The gestation period for the doe (female rabbit) is 31 days and they give birth to 6 to 10 kits (baby rabbit) at once. Rabbits are able to reproduce seven times a year. For reproduction to take place, the buck and doe be kept together to mate. After which they should be keep in separate cages of houses. One female rabbit can produce up to 50 baby rabbits in a year.
Housing – Rabbits can be kept cages, hutches or in a house. Whatever is the case, their living quarters should be spacious so that there will be enough room for their feeders, drinkers, the kits and for the expansion of the business. Their housing should protect them heat and humidity. It should not be too hot or too cold for them. Feeding – Rabbits eat processed feed or edible vegetable, leaves, shrubs, and herbs. They also grasses such as elephant grass, potato, etc. I recommend that you feed them 2 times every day.
If you feed them processed feed, then it is important that you find out the exacts amount of feed they consume on a daily basis. This will help you avoid waste. Adequate supply of drinking water should be provided for them too.
Expenses – Rabbit farming business in Nigeria is not an expensive venture. You can start your farm in your backyard, with 2 male rabbits and 6 female rabbits, a wire cage and information from out rabbit farming manual. You are good to go! Other factors you will need to put into consideration includes a production plan, competition and marketing strategies. Because there are not so many people involved in commercial rabbit production, it is almost impossible for the few rabbit farmers to satisfy market demand. Therefore, once you set up your own rabbit farming business in Nigeria, you are already a silent millionaire. Look at it like this; since reproduction will take place on a monthly basis, you always have rabbits to sell.
Marketing
It is expected that before one ventures into rabbit production, one must find where to sell them. One should find a way of creating awareness through advertising. The rabbit farmer can print flyers and distribute to universities and research institutes or even secondary schools that use them for experiments. The farmer can also advertise in churches, neighbourhoods, farms and corporate bodies.
And because rabbits are scarce, they are expensive so an adult rabbit can be sold from N5,000-#10,000. To venture into the business, you will require a Complete Guide.

Nairaland GeneralCommon Sense Advice For Jobless Nigerian Youths by Helenbims(op): 3:07pm On Jun 10, 2017
My Words to the Nigerian Youths:
My brothers and sisters, if Nobody has ever told your a truth, I volunteer to tell you one today. You must get to know this fact; with the daily occurrences across the globe, There can't be peace in the world again except in Heaven. Also, No country can have a "Better" government again except the government of God. Receive common sense today and cease to continue living in the fools paradise. If you are over 28 or 30 and you're still waiting for a family to help you or a government to give you job, I tell you, you don't have a future. Don't be surprised if at all you survive to the future, your children may likely stone you for not planning their future before bringing them forth to life. Stop being a fool by waiting for that brother, sister, uncle, aunts or relatives before you make your life or thinking it's until when you travel abroad before you can make it.What if your success lies here in your country? It's funny when youths think of travelling abroad or making it in Nigeria in this 21st century with what I term "Paper Qualifications". No wonder they later results to social vices to make ends meet. I will advice you today, go out there, learn a skill or a trade aside your so-called qualifications. Remember, Heaven helps those who helped themselves. You don't need a million to start a venture if you're yet to be employed or even under employed. A profitable venture doesn't start with money but with ideas. Think of what you have passion doing and start from that place where you're sitting. I have learned this hard lesson in about 35 Years of my existence and I wish you learn from it. It may be sad to know that Labour market don't need old people again but young chaps lesser than 26 and if you're more than this, your fate depends on you or God.
Finally, it has been established that if God tarries, our oil reserve which serves as the main source of Nigeria income may dry off in the next 100 years, which means we need to start planning in the alternatives now. I will suggest to you, start a venture, go into Agric-Business and start small, because that's the Best alternative now, and where the "Cool Money" lies in Nigeria.
Thanks.

There is no shortage of items to toss on the backyard grill, if you’ve got a palate curious enough to simply try them. While not the most exotic meat in the case, rabbit is somewhat unfamiliar to many people. If one has ever consumed it, likely, most people have never prepared it themselves. Rabbit, both domestic and wild, is an extremely lean, delicate meat, with less than half the calories per pound than beef or pork. Rabbit is not only extremely lean, but is rich in vitamin B12, iron, and heart-healthy Omega 3 fatty acids. Low in Cholesterol and easily digestible, rabbit is one of the healthiest proteins available.
Barbecued rabbit may not be the most exotic meat available, but it’s a great start to expanding the culinary horizons on the grill. A delicate, flavorful and extremely healthy option, rabbit can be easy to grill and completely unexpected. With minimal preparation, a few spices to season and a little time on the grill, your experience in cooking a whole rabbit won’t be your last.
The Perfectly Grilled Rabbit
Print,Prep time,15 mins,Cook time,35 mins,Total time,50 mins,
Ingredients
6 Tbsp Granulated Garlic
3 Tbsp Lemon Rind
2 Tbsp Granulated Onion
1 tsp Rubbed Sage
½ tsp Smoked Sweet Paprika
½ tsp Ground Cayenne Pepper
Instructions
Prepare your grill to cook over indirect heat, with the coals banked to one side of your grill to a temperature of 300°F. If using a gas grill, set the grill to a medium heat, with the burners directly under your meat turned off. The smokiness of the grill is what the outdoor cooking experience is all about, so be sure to add chunks of hardwood to the coals or add woodchips in a smoker box or foil pouch if using the gas grill.
Place the rabbit on the grill and cover. Even while cooking with indirect heat, arranging the rabbit on the grill is key. The front legs are smaller and will cook quicker, so be sure to place them as far away from your heat source as possible. The loin muscles and hind legs should be placed nearer the coals or burners, to ensure they are ready at the same time as the smaller cuts are.
After spending about 15-20 minutes on the grill, turn the rabbit over and replace the cover.
Check the meat after another 15 minutes with a meat thermometer. The rabbit will be done after it has reached an internal temperature of at least 160°F.
Once you’ve reached the proper temperature, brush the meat lightly and evenly on all sides with your favorite barbecue sauce such as Croix Valley Sweet 'n Smokey Competition Barbecue Sauce, replace the lid and allow the sauces to “set” on the meat for an additional 5 minutes.
Remove the rabbit from the grill and enjoy!

Discover Another Money Making Avenue in Rabbit Farming. How 3 Savvy Youths Make Money From Yet to be Popular Rabbit Sausage.

If you're yet to key into this business opportunity of rearing rabbits from your backyard, you're missing out.
Read how 3 Business Savvy Youths are making money from this to understand why I'm keen about this business.

Rabbits sausages
KIAMBU: Rabbit meat fetches good money, but if you want even more, try value addition. We are talking sausages, kebabs and samosas! Three savvy youth have taken rabbit business to the next level and have every reason to celebrate.
Isaac Muigai, Lillian Kanyingo and Peter Njoroge are proprietors of Pillar Group Ltd which processes rabbit meat into sausages, kebabs and samosas. When Smart Harvest visits them at their processor in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, we find Muigai cutting through a thick chunk of rabbit meat as Kanyingo holds it gently.
They are deboning it before mincing the flesh thereafter processing it to make sausages.
“We make yummy sausages, tasty kebabs and mouth-watering samosas from rabbit meat. Our products are in high demand in the area,” says Njoroge.
The trio started their firm in 2011 and are now a force to reckon with selling their products to various supermarkets and hotels.
“Each sausage goes for Sh50. We buy rabbits from farmers in kilos with each going for Sh500.”
Interestingly, demand for the rabbit products is so high, sometimes they get overwhelmed. Pillar Group buys rabbit meat from its pool of 382 rabbit farmers spread across the country.
Healthy rabbits
“Currently, we are facing a major challenge of rabbit shortage. We have orders we cannot meet. Sometimes back, we inquired from major supermarkets in Nairobi but they wanted us to slaughter 200 rabbits daily which we could not because we do not have enough rabbit farmers to supply the animals. At the moment we slaughter 100 rabbits per day,” Muigai says.
How did they start the venture?
Before they met, the three were individual rabbit farmers in different localities.
They did not know each other until 2010 when they met at an agricultural exhibition in Wangige, Kikuyu organised by the Anglican Church of Kenya.
“During tea break, we spoke and exchanged notes. In our discussions and from the trainings, we realised that we would be stronger if we worked as a team. We resolved to partner and process rabbit products to fetch more cash,” Njoroge explains.
To start off, in 2011 the trio each contributed Sh40,000 from their personal savings to make a total of Sh120,000.
“In addition, we borrowed Sh215,000 from a bank. We used the money to buy a rabbit sausage making equipment including a mixer and the stuffing machine from Kitchen Pride Ltd,” Kanyingo explains.
Muigai continues: “After buying the machines, we started looking for rabbit farmers. Then, each rabbit weighing at least 4kgs would go for Sh200. We started buying each kilo at Sh500 that saw the same rabbit going for Sh2,000.”
To get the farmers, they would attend agricultural shows where they distributed their cards and they also used extension officers.
The business picked up so well by the end of the year, they had paid back the loan.
Pillar Group buys the rabbits when they are alive, slaughter them and make the sausages.
“Nothing goes to waste. We sell the skin to a group in Nyeri who use it to make affordable shoes. We sell rabbit skin at Sh200, kebab costs Sh40 and samosa goes for Sh30 each,” says Kanyingo.
Presently, they buy rabbits from any farmer across the country provided that their small animals are in good health.
However, they prefer hybrid rabbits such as Newzealand white, California white, Chinchilla and the Checkered Giant due to their high prolificacy levels. They have bought a vehicle to ferry rabbits across the country.
So how do they make the sausages?
“We add sodium nitrate curing salt and spices to the meat after mincing it.
We then mix and prepare the stuffed sausage for the smoker and load put the concoction into the machine. We control the temperatures manually from the machine to prevent over heating. We then cut the sausages into the required sizes and pack them,” says Muigai. The group also trains farmers on construction ofrabbit cages, feeding and breeding the animals.
And where did they learn their expertise on rabbit rearing?
“We learned the skills of adding value to rabbit products in a training organised by the Ministry of Agriculture on value addition in our offices situated in Nairobi. As previous rabbit farmers, we have also attended several trainings on rabbit rearing,” says Muigai.
Kanyingo who is in charge of trainings says: “We also tell farmers where to source for the fastest maturing breeds, best feeds and disease prevention and treatment measures.”
One of the farmers who has benefited from the initiative is Ruth Wanjiku, from Kinoo, in Kiambu County.
“Bloat was my main challenge. Pillar Group taught me how to control it plus other diseases like coccidiosis and pneumonia. I have learnt from them that it is important to monitor your animals closely even if you have employed a farmhand,” Wanjiku shares.
She has 34 cages in 8 metres by 4 metres piece with each sheltering between one and 10 rabbits depending with the age.
She sells her four-month rabbits to Pillar group limited in kilos.
“I feed an adult rabbit 130 grams of pellets per day and 60 grams for each young rabbit in a day. You increase the food as they grow,” says Wanjiku.

Are You Still Looking For Job?
See How An Illiterate Makes Millions From Rabbit Urine and why You Need To Start Rabbit Farming .

Rabbit urine is highly corrosive, thus one must use materials that do not rust when constructing the pens.
In a month, he collects up to 300 litres of urine, which he carries on his pick-up truck to a depot on Ladhies Road for transportation to Eldoret, where the factory that processes the urine is located.
“I have delivered about 2,000 litres of urine to the processing plant and I am now waiting for my pay cheque,” says Maina, who bought the animals from Kinangop, Kiria-ini and Nanyuki.
The urine the farmer produces is used in the making of Rabbits Urine Extra, an organic liquid manure, which was unveiled recently.
The manure is manufactured from urine produced by farmers in Bomet, Eldoret, Nairobi and Kisii counties.
“Plans are underway to open two such factories at Dagoretti and Ruai in Nairobi in the course of this year,” says Robinson Runyenje, the developer of the fertiliser.
The fertiliser is produced by Kenya Com Rabbit Consortium Limited.
Runyenje, the chief executive at the consortium, says he conducted research and realised the organic fertiliser in the market was not made from rabbit urine.
“The fertiliser is rich in various elements including macro and micro nutrients that can be used as foliar feed and soil conditioner,” he says.
According to him, rabbit urine can end farmers’ reliance on NPK and CAN fertilisers whose prolonged use leave the soil unhealthy.
“As it is, our soils are facing an acidity crisis. Farmers are using a lot of money to reclaim their soils and make them useful,” says Runyenje.
To supply the company with rabbit urine, farmers have to register to be members.
“They are paid Sh100 per litre of urine supplied, alongside a bonus that will be given quarterly,” he says.
The idea is getting the farmer to sell directly without going through middlemen, thus enabling the farmer to earn more.

AdvertsHow To Make Extra N10,000 – N30,000 Weekly Selling The New Mosquito Killer Lamp by Helenbims(op): 4:38pm On May 08, 2016
How To Earn Extra N10,000 – N30,000 weekly Selling The New Mosquito Killer Lamp To Your Neighbours.

I Newly Imported this Mosquito Killer Lamp From abroad and they are damn selling like hot cake.
The product MOSQUITO KILLER LAMPS are superb and kills mosquitoes like Mad!

I sell the product for N1,499 (wholesales price) but, this product can sell for as much as N3,000 if you can convince people. In fact, some people sell it for as much as N2,300 on JUMIA, KONGA and other e-commerce websites in Nigeria (you can verify this fact) and they have to pay extra N1,500 – N2,500 for shipment. That’s a cost of between N3,800 – N4,800 per piece and yet people are buying this Mosquitoes Killer Lamp.

Every family needs at least 3 (one for each room) and instead of burning money on Insecticides or Doctors to treat Malaria, Mosquitoes Killer Lamp is non-rechargeable and once switched on at Night, it keeps killing the mosquitoes. How? The blue light from the mosquitoes killer lamp when plugged, will attract the mosquitoes to the lamp and once the fly into it, it electrocute them. The “vap”sound it makes when it electrocute the mosquitoes excites me like craze.
.
HOW TO PROFIT FROM THIS.
I have over 100pieces in stock right now (more expected to come in from my manufacturers in weeks to come) and you can buy in bulk (10pieces and above) from me at the rate of just N1,200 only.

If you are buying 10, that will be just N12,000 only. You will add N2000 for me to send to your city through public bus driver. Total N14,000.
.
If you sell each for N2,500 only, that’s N25,000. Minus your cost, you earn extra N11,000.

If you place order for 20picces, that’s just N24,000 plus cost of sending to you N2000 total is N26,000. Selling each for N2,500 only gives N50,000 Minus your cost of N26,000 gives you a profit of N24,000.

You can achieve this weekly if you are serious. To sell 10 pieces, you need between 3 – 5 families only. By experience, family buys for each room in their apartment.

HOW TO SELL
1. If you belong to a religious organization like church or mosque, the congregation is always huge. You can sell to them. If you know how to sell, selling up to 100 pieces is damn easy via this method. You just go with the samples…

2. At your place of work. No need for expatiating on this.

3. If you have time and wish to take this as a business, since the product is new and the market, you can capitalize on this and take it to other offices, institutions and gatherings of people that you think might be interested and you will sell hundreds.

4. You can upload the pictures of the product on facebook and let anyone interested call you to buy it from you.

5. You can market it to your neighbours and sell dozens.

6. You can create flyers with the image of the product in it and description. Put the price and your contact
number. Ask some people to help you distribute to banks, offices, hospitals, malls, eateries and other public places.
(2000pieces of flyers wouldn’t cost more than like N5000)
.
7. I love this. Since the product is target to families, we can create flyers and get someone to go into an area and flip it under the gates of as many houses as possible. Offer FREE Home delivery and pay on delivery since those areas are within your city. This trick alone can make you bastard money.
.
These marketing tricks discussed above alone is worth over N10,000 if am to charge for it. But it’s free.
