Last year (2018), I set a goal to hit $10,000 a month. That was a scary number for me at the time. But I believed it could be done. I worked tirelessly towards it every day and I managed to meet that target in November 2018. I repeated it again in December 2018.

Later in January 2019, I set an audacious goal: To hit $20,000/month before December 2019...effectively doubling my 2018 goal. I was scared that I was being too ambitious and this was a ridiculous goal to set. However, there's something mysterious that happens when you set a goal and become obsessed with hitting it. Ideas start coming to you revealing ways you can improve your business to help you hit that figure.

One of those ideas eventually led me to Ingramspark and, 3 months to go, I'm very close to hitting 20,000 a month.

I encourage you to never give up. Set goals and work tirelessly towards it regardless of the challenges.

It is approximately 6500 words in total

That's expected.

Once you upload a manuscript, Amazon converts it using a standard font size and spacing. This is done so people don't inflate their books for KENP

As a guide, a 10,000 words manuscript translate roughly to 70-100 pages after conversion (depending on whether it has pictures or not)

Application to Self Publishing
Don't try to manufacture demand. Sell books that have an existing demand and a track record of selling well. The people that have a burning issue that need a solution are much more likely to buy books that address (cure) the issue than those that don't have any existing problem to resolve.

I'd advise you not to date anyone for now until you've healed.

The wound is still sore. You still think about your ex and rushing to date some other person (without healing first) will end up setting up a rebound.

Just focus on work or something that will distract you and take your mind off things. With time you'll get better, feel re-energized and ready to love someone again.

A Shift In The Balance Of Power

I noticed a strange thing in my publishing business. In the beginning, royalty from paperback sales made up the bulk of my earnings. This gradually moved to audiobook royalties as I discovered the power of putting books in audio format.

However, of recent, this shift is going back to paperbacks. Looking back to the beginning of 2019, I just realised that my paperback royalties have increased for 9 consecutive months. Last month I made over $6000 in paperback royalties alone and this month I have already beaten that record!

Audiobook publishing may be the Gold Rush at the moment as it's still new and there isn't much competition. However, that is gradually changing as more and more people are realising what an opportunity this is and are getting on the bandwagon.

I believe audiobook publishing will reach saturation point as soon as ACX officially allows other countries (outside of USA, UK, Australia and Canada) to begin publishing audiobooks using the ACX platform (Not that there is no legal UNOFFICIAL way to go about it - there is!)

Paperback publishing, on the other hand, has been around for ages and is still VERY PROFITABLE - if you know what you're doing.

I won't lie.

My dream goal is to:

1. Be an amazing dad for my future kids
2. Be a wonderful husband to my future wife and
3. Become a naira billionaire by age 40

This write up will focus more on goal #3

I've always been driven by the desire to achieve financial freedom - to do things my way and on my terms.

To fill up this barrel with water is akin to realising my goal of becoming a billionaire by age 40

How do I achieve this goal?

I realised I need multiple streams of water (income) flowing into this barrel...the more streams I can channel into it, the faster it'll fill up and the faster I'll realise my dream goal.

To do this, I need income-generating assets....assets that make money for me while I'm sleeping.

These are the kind of assets that give you tremendous leverage as you're not trading your time for money.

It's another reason why Amazon Self Publishing is so amazing...these books perfectly help me to achieve this goal.

Unlike real estate rental properties, I don't have to worry about bad tenants not paying on time or about tenants trashing my property etc.

You create the books, they sell and Amazon pays you your money as at when due - no stories

I can create as many books as I want without having to shell out millions of naira to buy land and build another rental unit

This proves that your destiny is in your hands..you have the power to change the narrative and realize your wildest dreams.

You just need to believe that you can do it and take consistent actions towards it - regardless of the challenges.

I believe a lot of youth in Nigeria can transform their financial lives if only they apply themselves and stop making excuses or relying on the government for everything

If I were to sell today, using the conservative value of $7000 net profit AT 25x multiple, I would be fetching around $175,000 (N63 million)

But I'd rather not sell...perhaps when I get to a point where I can exit for a lot more I would consider it

Once again, the opportunities in online business are incredible!

To Scale..You Need To Apply The Right Strategies And Be Consistent Over A Long Period Of Time

That's one of the key things I'd advise new and coming publishers.

In the publishing business, the majority of the profit margin is on the paperback/audiobook side.

If you can learn to optimize these formats to squeeze every drop of royalty from them, you'll make a lot of money.

If you go through my thread from the very beginning, you'll be taken on the journey I went through from making barely $3000 on paperbacks to more then doubling that figure last month ($6004).

It wasn't pure luck that this happened in the space of 5 months.

Every book you publish needs to be put on 2 formats at the very minimum (kindle and paperback). The more formats you create, the more streams of income you add to your portfolio.

After the formats are created, you then zoom in and optimize.

- How many pages should your book have?
- How much should you charge?
- Should you have pictures?
- Should they be coloured or black & white?
- What trim size should you use?
- How much should you spend on Ads? etc

These are some of the questions you should be addressing in order to figure out how best to maximise your earnings.

It's not about giving out things for free.

Dangote won't reveal to anybody everything he knows about business simply because he's a billionaire.

I paid the price to get to where I am (books I published that weren't so successful, money I spent to learn what works and what doesn't, money i spent on mentorships etc)..I took risks and my time & knowledge is valuable to me.

The people I pass on that knowledge to have to be serious people who are motivated as I am and are also willing to take risks.

Nothing worthwhile in life comes for free...there has to be some level of sacrifice

Con: Will the sales volume result in meaningful royalty earnings? thats up in the air

If you use the stacking strategy and piggy bank off a more in-demand keyword, you'll kill two birds with one stone.

There are some good keywords publisher rocket gives with high profit, low search result and great monthly searches and even with low competition score but when you attempt to type the keywords on Amazon search bar, it dosen't throw up anything auto suggestion related to it as though users are not searching for that keyword. Would it be safe to assume that even though the keywords aren't shown in the Amazon auto suggestion search bar, that they are indeed keywords users are searching for? And the SEO expert, is there a reason why the keyword isn't showing any auto suggestion on Amazon

The Amazon search bar is the ultimate verification...if you search and don't find the said keyword auto-populated then chances are the keyword phrase is not something Amazon customers search at all (or they do search for it but rarely..i.e. it has a very low search volume that Amazon doesn't bother to auto-populate it)
