Do you brand your publishing business around you or around a pen name? A lot of students ask me this question. It depends on a number of factors.. 1. Are there plenty of authority figures in that niche? 2. Do you understand that niche very well? 3. Do you plan to monetize that niche by creating a backend course or upsell? If there are plenty of authority figures in that niche and, more importantly, you notice the authority figures tend to do a lot better than the unknown self-published authors, then it's perhaps better to brand it around your name. However, if all those authors are based in the USA and your customer base are mostly US people, you might be at a disadvantage being an author from Africa. Customers may be more comfortable buying from a fellow US author than from an African author. So, if you're going to go this route, you might want to use only your English name(s). Secondly, whether you use a pen name or your English name will depend on how well you understand the niche and the topic of your book. Customers will email you from time to time to help them with stuff in the book they don't quite understand. As a pen name, you can perhaps hide behind your computer and get away with it. But, if you've put yourself out there as an expert and you're unable to address their question to their satisfaction, they might go the review section of your book to lay out their grievances and/or call your authority to question. So. if you're going to put yourself out there, make sure you know your stuff. Finally, if you plan on monetizing that niche is some way e.g. if you're in the health and fitness niche and you also happen to be a fitness trainer, it makes more sense to brand it around your name so your customers know you personally. This way, you can sell them a fitness program as a back end upsell once you have them in your email list. They can visit your gym and work out under your guidance 1 Like |

myjourneysofar: You guys have to realize something. You only value something once you pay for it. I personally paid a mentor thousands of dollars to learn what I know today and a couple of people have paid over N100,000 to learn from me. This does not discount those that settled for the blueprint at a much cheaper price compared to the mentorship. All these people paid their hard-earned money to get valuable information...not because they're stupid BUT because they know the value of what they're getting and they're truly COMMITTED to changing their lives. There's no worthwhile gain without personal sacrifice. Secondly, I can't give to person B for free what person A paid their hard-earned money for. I'll lose my integrity as a businessman doing that and I don't intend to be that kind of person. I remember when the only package available was the mentorship. People were doubting and procrastinating. Nine months later, a lot more packages have come out at much cheaper prices compared to the mentorship and there's a lot more screenshots of my earnings. YET, some people still choose to doubt and procrastinate If you people truly appreciate the value of what you know...you won't take it lightly. You all know the power of kindle publishing and what it can do for you all (you've seen it from my earnings and a few others here on Nairaland). I've earned over N45 million this year alone and someone is still doubting whether this is real or not. Others are still procrastinating whether to pay N20,000 for the blueprint or not ..maybe in 2025 the person will look back and start wishing he took action back in 2019 when he came across this thread and saw those screenshots It just goes to show you..not everybody wants it bad enough. Just like customers on Amazon, people that truly want to change their lives vote with their wallet. If you want something bad enough, nothing will stop you from getting it. If you want that level of success bad enough, nothing will stop you from getting it..as long as you're willing to do what it takes. Nothing is free Finally, it's never too late to start. Yes, the best time to start kindle publishing was way back then when it was still relatively unknown. But that doesn't mean its no longer profitable to do it now...I think my screenshots are more than enough proof of that 1 Like |

Mistakes Beginners Make When Publishing Mistake #3 Not Proofreading their work after its returned by the Ghostwriter Some newbies proceed to publish the manuscript immediately its returned to them without bothering to proofread it in order to correct for typos and make sure that the whole thing makes sense. As a result, they're unable to capture mistakes early and when customers come across them after the book is published, it more often than not leads to negative reviews. No matter how good your book is and how well it's selling, a negative review will impact it. |

Mistakes Beginners Make When Publishing Mistake #2 Not creating a book outline You've nailed down a profitable topic to publish a book on. You then rush off to your ghostwriter and ask them to help you write a book on so so and so topic and that's it? wrong! I once made this mistake. When I was new to this business, I went to upwork to hire a ghostwriter to write a book on a topic I had researched. She promised heaven and earth and told me the book will be ready in 3 days. I was very excited and given that the book was only 10,000 words, I didn't think too much about the 3 days delivery (which, in hindsight, was slightly too good to be true) True to her word, she delivered the project in 3 days. I ran the book through Copyscape to check for plagiarism and it came out 100% clean. This was what spooked me..surely this can be. I went on Amazon to check similar books and, low and behold, I found a competitors book that was the exact replica of my book - word for word. This ghostwriter sold me a manuscript she already sold to someone else or probably stole from someone else! I immediately went back to upwork and complained. My money (which thankfully was still in escrow) was released back to me Imagine what would have happened to my publishing account if I published that book and Amazon found out I plagiarised another publisher's work? In this business, you can't be too careful. A book outline will help you avoid this situation and it'll also help you differentiate your book from that of your competitors. In the updatd version of the bueprint, I show you how to write a great book outline |

Mistakes Beginners Make When Publishing Mistake #1 Not publishing in a profitable keyword It still surprises me when people approach me asking whether they can publish their school project or any random thing they thought about etc without any research to back it up. In the publishing world (and indeed the business world), you give customers what they want as opposed to what you want or what you THINK customers want. Beginners need to learn how to conduct effective market research to find out what customers DEFINITELY want. How do you know its definite? because these customers have voted with their wallets/credit cards and continue to do so. There are a lot of ways you can approach it. First of all, you can try to jot down ideas you think might do well on Amazon. After that, you extract keywords from those ideas e.g. your idea could be about "Advise for people getting married", the general keyword would be "Marriage" You go on Amazon and check whether that keyword is profitable. Does it satisfy all the criteria specified in the Kindle Blueprint? Once it satisfies all or most of the critieria, you can then proceed to check whether the keyword is trademarked. By doing so, you protect yourself and your publishing account. You only proceed with creating a book once you've confirmed that a market exist for that book and publishers in that market are making money |

libertyinc1: Thanks bro. With regards to your first question, I was in orientation camp. No laptop, poor network..hence the reason why I did nothing. All I could do was log in occasionally (from my phone) to see how sales were going BUT I couldn't publish or optimize anything. It was completely passive. With regards to your second question, blueprint owners get 20% discount on all the other resources...those who are neither mentees or owners of the blueprint pay the full price listed above. Mentees get 50% discount As for your final question, profitability is dynamic not static. What was wildly profitably in quarter 4 (Oct, Nov, Dec) may not be as profitable in quarter 1 (Jan, Feb, Mar) etc but by and large, a keyword that is profitable is profitable. All you can do is avoid keywords that are wildly seasonal in terms of their profitability (I go more into that in the blueprint). If a keyword is profitable at one point and wildly unprofitable later in the year, its best to avoid it. The keywords listed in the book aren't the seasonal type |

Made $12,144 in October, Closing in on $10,000 in November 2019 Audiobook royalty income for last month (October) came in from Audible yesterday and I made more than I expected ($4320.17). With that update, estimations for last month earnings went up to $12,144. With regards to this month, total income is currently $9681.54. The income for this month has been completely passive as I've barely managed it given that I travelled to Nigeria and I'm currently doing my youth service - hence little to no time to do anything. Now that I'm out of orientation camp, I intend to ramp things back up as much as possible. Income Breakdown Audiobook Royalty - $2940.8 Paperback Royalty - $4803.93 eBook + KENP Royalty - $1400.08 Ingramspark Royalty - $536.73 2019 November month to date Income - $9681.54 (N3.49 million) 2019 Year To Date Income - $127,489.26 (N45.9 million) Resources For those interested in learning my publishing strategies, a number of resources are available for you. ambitiouschap: You can get a copy of the blueprint now it's at a 25% discount. That being said, the key thing when publishing a book is that the keyword is profitable and there isnt much competition. Once you have these two things in place, you dramatically increase your chance of making sales Ofcuz to maximise sales, you have to ensure you have a good cover, good description and a lot of other factors you need in place. But the key ones are profitability of keyword and number of competition. The blueprint goes in more details about all of the above |
