Jobs/VacanciesRe: Will A Master's Degree Improve One's Employment Prospect? by henricson(m): 2:29pm On Jul 25, 2015
temb:
I recently just concluded my nysc this July and have since been trying to secure a job...Now I have been sending many applications since February but still no luck...

The question now is that if I acquire a masters degree, would that guarantee me a job in Nigeria...or everything is based on connection, because I am really confused. don't know whether I should use the little money I saved up during my nysc to pursue masters or I should keep on the job hunt.....

I would appreciate good advice from experienced people here and lastly I graduated with a 2.2 in the dept of metallurgical and materials engineering.
Not at all!

Sorry for diverting from the main topic of this thread.
I need a little help... I went for an interview in an ICT company for the position of a business development officer. I was asked to prepare a business plan o. how I will develop new businesses and clients for the company, that's the strategy and market segments I will focus on, expected monthly targets and profit margins, how I intend to maintain and increase custom base, and profit margins.
In a nutshell, market my abilities to do the job.

But after my research, I realized tha business plan is for business owners who want to start up a business and seeking for investors.
So in my case, I need like a proposal.
Can someone who has a knowledge on this, tell me how I am to start this?
What points am I to expanded on?

Please quick response will be appreciated as I am to submit this proposal tomorrow!
Thank you!

point45: The test seemed pretty decent for SC. Was scared at how much time i had left, unfortunately no back button so impossible to review. The drama at JKK was unfortunate. Staff didn't display any form of professional conduct. Kept people waiting for ages not even one person to address us not to mention a polite apology for the delay.
I have lost all forms of trust in this process as it's hard to say a setup that has failed at every attempt will not mixup results.
First test- error laden
Make up test- had to keep calling for login help
Next stage - change of date twice
Actual test day - complete server failure

Workforce needs people who can be ontop of things.
On a lighter note, too many fine people.

Abeg: the fine babe that asked me to wake her up, what's your phone number? Lol

Good luck everybody
Workforce, raise your gam
Yes, the SC questions were easy!
All in sales!!

sniperwolf: Too bad I wasn't able to attempt all the questions in the numerical and verbal section because I spent so much time with the accounting section. I was at 43 before my time got exhausted.
They were using outdated laptops, my touch-pad wasn't responsive
Exactly!
The laptops were so outdated, clicking an option, then clicking next wasn't a joke!!
But I still finished with 6mins left

onymodel: I was called too...I think they just want to be sure in order to curb impersonation..The lady was like where will be favourable for you to write the test...I will want to believe that was rhetorical because they know what we already put as our centers. I think there was more to that call than just finding out our preferred center...I wish i told her a hall in my backyard will be favourable for me! however i'm thinking of how they gonna call up to 5000 candidates for same confirmation.#okbye grin
My thoughts exactly!

FaithYetu: Any texts/mails on the saturday test invitation? Or we sh'd just travel to our centres for the test? Cos to me this workforce people are confused ooooo....
They (workforce) don't seem to have a stable timeline on this recruitment process!
Too much irregularities!!

FaithYetu: I and my family also had such near death experience in same zaria that 2011 post election violence, but that still does not change the fact that life's cheaper here in the north, I was born here; primary, secondary, 1st degree, 1st masters degree, all here in zaria (north), worked in lagos for a while and abuja, found out that Kaduna and kano is cheaper to live, cost of living is minimal compared to the lagos and PH. Well, the crux of the matter is 'Just be where God wants u to be', there's no secured placed on this earth, only Under the shadow of his wings' (Ps. 91), am currently working in kano where am also doing my 2nd masters, am enjoying this place well!

Back to UAC, let's give the test a shot...we hope for the best and if I pass...Glory to God....if I don't, Glory to God all the same. Cheers fellas!
Good for you..... No matter how cheap life is up north, money is not worth risking my life.
But like you said God has got our security finally!

But seriously, life is sorta boring up north!!

FaithYetu: Hmmmmm, but is this recruitment of Lagos alone? I believe they sh'd have offices in the North, East etc...Life in the north is cheap oooo, compared to the south and east....
So is life cheap in the north... My life is priceless!
Though i got my masters in ABU, Zaria and served in Kano, i have vowed never to go back to the north after a near death experience had during the post election crisis in Zaria.

One way or the other, i will taste money as a Ph guy, and give the testimony!!
Back to our UAC correspondents!!!

Same with me, this is the third time!
I guess they are just looking for ways to reduce the number of people who applied!!

Uchboggy: they do it a lot, they just did the online test to reduce the number of people who would be attending the supervised one at their office or so
Seems that way!

CharlyG1: Just wondering why a company will conduct an Ability test (Verbal, Quant etc.) twice, after spending such money on WORKFORCE.. Probably any upcoming test shld be a 'Personality' test, not d same verbal & Quant. Just saying.. We shall know wats up soon.
I know a second test is a way of reducing the large population of applicants like it was done in NLNG recruitment. But I don't think UAC's population is large like that of NLNG applicants.

Besides, I know personality test to be used for placements in the right work departments, and UAC have never been known to do that... So if not an interview, a test seems more likely!

We thank God for everything, good luck to d rest of u

I'm in d process of getting my dream job already so I'm not hurt by dis at all kiss kiss kiss to all of u
Awwww dear... It's no biggie!
I even have problems with that timing thing. I was even surprised I was successful cus I did mine in the compulsory rescheduled Saturday, and had 25 terrible quantitative questions and 15 critical in 40mins.
Unlike union bank test I believed to write well and still wasn't successful.

UAC seems to have a long way to go with their recruitment. Besides, UAC is just one of the many eggs in different baskets!

I am glad you are in the process of getting your dream job. I do like to keep in touch with you if you don't mind, maybe we might be of help to each other some day!

FaithYetu: Sure, and the financial statements/Accounts are vital for analysis and study! Am an accountant sha, so am seeing it from that perspective sha...
I don't think u will be asked to prepare financial statements, cause that will be time consuming considering the number applying.
But then I might be wrong!
Jobs/VacanciesRe: UAC Management Trainee 2014 Applicants Lets Meet Here by henricson(m): 12:08pm On Aug 25, 2014
dcaliph: Employers are not stupid, if they ask you to complete an unsupervised online test, they will check the results at a later stage of the recruitment process. This typically means some form of re-testing.

If truly you did the online test yourselves, why be afraid?
I guess SPDC, Heineken, BAT, Standard Chartered Bank are stupid! Because they all use online tests before interviews. Standard chartered even do some interviews on the phone.
Google does interviews via webcams.

It all depends on which method is convenient for them!

Masters makes no difference now in Nigeria.
You should know a lot of people now have a masters, even 2, a professional one like MBA & academics like M.Sc.
It's all about God's grace!

FaithYetu: Wow....so much info on UACN PLC Annual reports and accounts 2013, I'd suggest all Graduate specialist scheme invites peruse it, I'd have uploaded it here, but it's too big, is about 64mb, download it via google, type "UACN PLC annual reports and accounts 2013.pdf", go tru the links and click that of 2013. Am enjoying what am seeing here, so big a company to be frank....cheers fellas and wishing us success and favor, cos I'd really love to have this job, is really a place to be....take charge, and let's keep the info's on the next stage abreast here...
I hv a hardcopy of their 2013 annual report.
The useful part I can see in it is the names of the board of directors, the names and positions of the group senior management team, and the number of subsidiaries in uac and what they do!

Jobs/VacanciesRe: UAC Management Trainee 2014 Applicants Lets Meet Here by henricson(m): 1:50pm On Aug 21, 2014
jydo: This is to all UAC aspirants, just to share some important info with you. I was in your shoes some 8 years back. I wrote the UAC commercial trainee test in 2006 May 2006 and eventually resumed there in sept of same year (I shared the testimony then on this same forum). Anyway am sharing this to help you guys on how to prepare for their interview which i believe is still the same format. Before i proceed further i will like to correct an impression that a dude gave earlier on the thread that he has already gotten the job through internal connection. I beg to differ with the guy. That assertion of his seems like a lie. UAC is one of the companies that still recruit strictly on merit.

The interview is usually at 2 levels, the first being an interview with a panel of 4-6 senior officers of their different subsidiaries and in the interview expect anything. Anything meaning it could be as serious as to ask u about what u know about a current govt policy or as trivial as EPL premiership scores of the previous week. Current affairs and general knowledge. interview for each person could last for btw 30-45mins. I could remember i was asked to talk about 3 policies of OBJ's govt that were recently implemented.( I talked about the banking reform, Insurance sector reform and the maritime reform then). I also remembered being asked some tricky questions like who is the "president of the UK" an dthis had to be exlained that they do not have one. Summary of what to prepare for in the 1st stage is that you should be aware of current happenings in the country and beyond, know about the company very well and also be very confident.

As at then only about 160 of us were selected for the 1st level interview and about 50 or thereabout were called for the 2nd stage. we were divided into 4 comprising of 12 in each group. The 2nd stage interview usually takes the whole day. 4 stages in all. The first stage then had 4 mgt staff 2 MD's of Subsidiaries and 2 directors in my own group. They all introduced themselves and discussed their profile (name, qualification, job experience, lenght of time in UAC amongst other things. we were then asked to follow suit, all the other interviewees will be hearing u, so u take note to speak out loud and clear. This stage took close to an hour after which we were served breakfast. After the breakfast the sitting arrangement with our name tags was altered and we were given a passage to read and discuss answers to the 2 questions after the passage. The Ogas were taking notes while the discussion was going on among us. (i think the essence was to see your ability to work in a team). This took a little over 30mins and for the 3rd stage u will be asked to pick any wrapped paper (devils basket) in a container and whatever topic you see in it should be discussed. Like u making a presentation of whatever you find in it. I remembered my topic was Social security and i was done in 5 minutes before i started babbling due to my little knowledge of the topic. some were fortunate to have simpler topics like "nollywood". after this stage was lunch.

The 4th and final stage was one on one interview with the directors again and it was just like the 1st level interview where the questions could come from any angle. AT this stage there is a possibility of getting questions related to your course. pretty straight and u may stay inside for up to 20 minutes. Just be confident and be cool.

Lastly to tell you how i asserted that the dude that claimed to have started there already may not be saying the truth is that, after the final interview, 13 people resumed 1st week of august 2006 and i wasnt among them. I was then called to come for medicals on 31st August and i eventually resumed mid september. It was on my resumption that i found out that one of the 13 resigned 3 weeks after they started and i was called to fill up the space. I had friends that had insider in UAC but they were not called when i was called. I was called to make up the 13 and after i resumed 4 months later i wasnt replaced.

i hope my piece will help one or 2 peeps on this forum. I wish u all the best, i will be available for more comments later in the days.
cheers
(
