OKOWA COMMENDS DICKSON FOR LEADING CAMPAIGN FOR TRUE FEDERALISM, RESTRUCTURING

The Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, described his Bayelsa counterpart, His Excellency, the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, a great leader providing the requisite leadership in the campaign for equitable, free and just Nigerian Federation.

Okowa commended Governor Dickson for providing leadership in the ongoing campaign for true federalism, devolution of powers and a restructured Nigerian federalism.

Okowa said that the decision of Gov Dickson to mobilize the governors of the South South geopolitical zone to demand the restructuring of the country was worthy of commendation by all.

The Delta State Governor made the comment while speaking at the commissioning ceremony of the Sapele Ultra Mordern Market, Sapele on Tuesday.

The 1500 shop ultra modern market project and the dualised access road to Jesse, in Ethiope West Local Government Area were commissioned by Governor Dickson who is chairman of the South South Governors’ Forum.

Governor Dickson said that the road project and the 1500-shop ultra mordern market which were started by former Governor James Ibori and completed by Governor Okowa clearly showed the commitment and Okowa to service delivery.

The Governor Who commended Ibori for the initiative also commended Okowa for his dedication and prudence management of resources to actualize completion of road projects as a first term governor in a period of economic recession.

He said, “I have heard about the performance of the governor in Delta, I have also read about the Great works of Okowa. Today is a testimony of that fact. You have a performing governor in Okowa, a shinning star. The projects are testimonies to his commitment to service delivery and his prudence.

“For the past four years Okowa has been performing in spite of the recession in his first term. This means that the second tenure is beckoning.

The Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, his Deputy Governor oBarr. Kingsley Otuaro, former Governor, Chief James Ibori, traditional rulers and top government officials and elders from both states attended the ceremonies.

The may be the richest based on per capita income(pci) n not gross domestic product(gdp). The latter is measured by dividing the GDP by the countries population, while the former is measured by the countries total production(economic growth). Quata's Gdp can just b $20 n US's GDP can be $20000, yet Quata can have a better PCI due to low population which doesn't in any way make quata richer than USA. per capita gdp is measured by dividing gross domestic product(gdp) by the population of the nation. For instance, if quatar's gdp is $200 n their population is 200 people, the per capital income of Quatar will be 1$. That's doesn't mean its gdp is bigger than USA, because USA has a bigger GDP and a lesser per capita income due to higher population. Besides, development is not measured based on per capital income...........

In 2015, Dickson never supported Jonation's re-election because of fear of being ousted out from office in 2016, the year, Bayelsa governorship elections were scheduled to hold. That inner battle led to two PDP factions in bayelsa state: the pro gej and the pro dickson factions, yet when GEJ came to bayelsa for his presidential campaign he urges his supporters in strong terms to work with the governor as one family. Unfortunately he lost at the polls, which to Dickson was a victory n worth celebrating. In 2016 guber polls in the state, the same Dickson ran to GEJ for support which he did wholeheartedly against Timipre Sylva the apc candidate, hence dickson got embraced by the common people because of the love they have for GEJ. After GEJ support made him won the guber polls, the same dickson wickedly support the Sheriff faction of the pdp in order to have a better stand in d party structure so that GEJ will not tell him anything or rather he will be more powerful in pdp than GEJ. Upon all this, GEJ still sees him as a brother n always ready to show him brotherly love when he needed it most.

To many you are right, but to me, you still getting it wrong. The IYC is a pressure group that has the responsibility of defending the ijaws without using the barrels of the gun. All the names u mentioned above can be better described as ex militants as they no longer carry out any activity that relate to militancy. A retired soldier will always behave like a soldier due to experiences during active service, but that doesn't in any way quality him or her a soldier. The issues of statemanship, I can say these men are respected by many for what they fought for . People feel they should not only be respected when they die like Isaac Boro, Ken Saro Wiwa et al...like I said in the post, militancy came because other means failed. Our senators, reps, governors could not do anything in a system dominated by other bigger tribes. Note also that there are millions of my likes who are not militants. I am writing this piece to correct the wrong impression by most Nigerians on the issue of militancy and the ijaw nation or better still, the erroneous use of the word "militant" in virtually everything that partains to the ijaws.
First and foremost, it is so annoying to say that every person from the ijaw ethnic distraction is a militant, it is an insult to us. If today, somebody like me who has never handled a gun or knows how to insert a bullet in a gun has a fight a with somebody, the media will say "ijaw militant attacked a man in yenagoa". The activities of militants has never been seen in many parts of ijaw soil. It only happens in places that has oil. Besides, we only have ex militants in the niger delta due to the wide acceptance of the presidential amnesty in 2009. Inquire from your friends and brothers who live among the ijaws on their land to prove that.

It is also devastating to notice that the media chose to describe every vice in the niger delta to be militancy. If armed robbers rob in niger delta it is ijaw militants, if two communities fight because of land dispute,the media will tag the ijaw side as militants. I wonder how nigeria understands the word militancy. Ijaws are warm and peace loving people who were pushed to the wall by the administrative and structural biases of the nigerian nation as regards the production of oil, the neglect, the environmental effects and the general attitude of the varioust administrations to their plights. Militancy comes into existence because other means never produced a fruitful result due to the dominance by other bigger tribes.
