The Federal
Government is
considering
banning the use of
motorcycles and
mining activities
nationwide to cut
off sources of
funds by terrorists
and bandits.
The Attorney-
General of the
Federation and
Minister of Justice,
Abubakar Malami,
gave the hint
Thursday while
briefing State
House reporters
after a meeting of
the National
Security Council
presided over by
President
Muhammadu
Buhari.
He said the
government
needed to act
because terrorists
had moved from
the conventional
ways of funding
their activities to
mining and ransom
taking.
He said
motorcycles were
used by the
bandits for
movement; while
mining provided
them funds for
their arms supply.
Asked if the
government would
consider the
implications of the
proposed ban on
the lives of
ordinary Nigerians
and the economy,
he said national
and public
interests would be
placed above
individual interests.
“The government
will look into that
possibility with
particular regards
to restriction on
use and
distribution of
motorcycles which
is the most
conventional
logistical means
being deployed by
terrorists.
“Again, issues of
funding of the
terrorism and the
terrorism act were
discussed and
deliberated upon
and considered,”
he said.
He said with the
Money Laundering,
Prevention and
Prohibition Act, the
conventional
means of terrorists’
funding was
substantially and
drastically
addressed leading
to forensic analysis
of and
identification of
certain
personalities that
were in one way or
the other
connected with
terrorism
financing.
“But then, new
innovations were
brought into the
terrorists funding
and financing
inclusive of the use
of mineral
resources – the
mining for example
among others. And
indeed, ransom
which
conventionally has
been taken by the
terrorists and then
the need arises to
now look into those
frontiers that are
being considered
by the terrorists for
the purpose of
addressing them
accordingly.”
He said the
government was
looking at what
measures to take
in terms of
addressing,
bridging and
blocking
associated sources
of terrorists’
funding, including
payment for
ransom and
“indeed, the mining
activities and the
possibility or
otherwise of
suspending for the
time being, mining
activities, are being
considered as well,
by the
government.”
A security and
intelligence expert,
Kabiru Adamu, in a
chat with Daily
Trust yesterday,
advised the
government to
consider regulatory
measures rather
than ban
motorcycles, in the
interests of the
local economy.
He said he had
earlier asked the
government to limit
terrorists’ ability to
move freely.
“And since we
know they use
mainly motorcycles
to move around,
we had in mind the
system where the
government is able
to at least regulate
the movement of
okada, not ban it.
We don’t support
the ban.
“What this means
is that, the
government should
have an idea of
motorcycles in
existence and
make sure those
motorcycles are
registered, and
then have a
system in place
where when the
owners of those
motorcycles use
them to commit
acts that are
against the law,
they’re held
accountable.
“Banning will affect
the economy of the
local communities,
and the poor
economy is a
driver of insecurity.
If the government
further
strangulates the
economy by
reducing the ability
of law-abiding
citizens to move
around, it’ll further
drive insecurity in
those local
communities,” he
said.
He added:
“However, I think
what the
government should
do is to do more of
what we call a
‘targeted-approach’
where they’ll insist
that every
motorcycle owner
must register who
he is, and then
develop the
capacity to monitor
the usage and
movement of these
motorcycles. So,
surveillance is an
option.
“We can have eyes
in the air through
satellites we have
or other technology
where we’ll know
when those bikes
move and how they
move,” he said.
Also speaking after
the NSC meeting,
the Minister of
Interior, Rauf
Aregbesola, said
substantial efforts
went into gathering
of intelligence
before the recent
attack on Kuje
Correctional
Centre.
He, however,
regretted that there
was the absence
of will to act on it.
He said a
preliminary report
of investigation on
the attack had
been submitted to
the president and
that a detailed
report would be
made available at
the end of the
probe.
He said those
found to have
abandoned their
responsibilities
would be punished.
Meanwhile, the
House of
Representatives
yesterday resolved
to investigate the
causes,
dimensions and
effects of the
recent terrorists’
attack on the Kuje
custodial centre.

The man who shot and killed Los Angeles rapper Nipsey Hussle minutes after a brief argument in 2019 has been found guilty of murdering the rising artist. Eric Holder, 32, was convicted by a jury in California on Wednesday after six hours of deliberations. Hussle, born Ermias Asghedom, was shot outside his LA clothing store. The 33-year-old had reportedly known the killer for several years. Following his death, tributes were paid from across the music industry. Holder was also found guilty of two counts of attempted manslaughter as two other men were shot in the incident. He could get life in prison when he is sentenced in September. He belonged to the same street gang as Hussle and had previously admitted to killing him. Witnesses say he left the scene after a ten minute argument, in which Hussle warned him of rumours that he was co-operating with police, and returned with two handguns. His defence team argued that he attacked him in the "heat of passion" but the jury agreed that the attack was premeditated. At the 2019 BET Awards, Hussle was posthumously given the Best Male Hip Hop Artist and Humanitarian Awards. Over 20,000 people attended a celebration of his life, with former US President Barack Obama praising him for leaving "a legacy worth of celebration". Hussle, a former gang member in Los Angeles, had become a community organiser and used the money he made from music to fund improvements to his neighbourhood. After his death he was praised as a "West Coast hero" by members of the city council, who unanimously voted to re-name an intersection "Nipsey Hussle Square" in his south LA neighbourhood. Bryannita Nicholson, a woman who was in a casual relationship with Holder and unwittingly drove him to and from the murder scene, testified in court during the trial that she saw Holder load a gun before the shooting. She said that they spotted the rapper on the street outside his Marathon clothing store while they were picking up a food order. Holder rushed over and she said she heard him loudly tell the rapper: "Did you say I snitched?". Ms Nicholson added that she posed for a photo with Hussle while Holder went to collect the food. The witness, who came forward to police leading to Holder's arrest, said that she saw Holder eat some food before he left her car to kill Hussle. Last week, Holder was attacked in jail by "multiple individuals" his public defender told CBS News, the BBC's partner in the US. He was reportedly cut with a razor, and taken to hospital where he had a wound to his head closed with staples.

A total of 77 persons — including 26
children — have been rescued by police
officers from the basement of a church in
Valentino area of Ondo state.
Funmilayo Odunlami, police public
relations officer (PPRO) in Ondo state,
confirmed the development to TheCable
on Saturday.
Odunlami said the rescued persons have
been evacuated to the police command in
Akure, the capital of Ondo state.
The police spokesperson although an
investigation has been launched into the
incident, early findings indicated that the
persons were kept in the basement by a
pastor preparing for rapture.
Rapture — according to the Christian
doctrine — refers to the period of the
second coming of Christ when all
believers are expected to be taken to
heaven.
“It’s a case of suspected abduction,” the
police spokesperson said.
“It’s a church-related issue — a pastor
who claims that Jesus is coming soon
and rapture will take place by September
and he harboured all of them in a house.”
Speaking further with TheCable on
Saturday night, the police spokesperson
said two pastors of the church have also
been arrested over the incident.
Josiah Peters, assistant pastor of Hope
Bible Believers Church where the persons
were discovered, said the decision to
keep people in the church was in
obedience to an instruction from God.
“We were having seven days meeting on
God’s instruction, that we should lock the
gate and be with him for seven days,” he
said.
The development comes weeks after the
Ekiti police command invited Nuah
Abraham, the pastor of Christ High
Commission Ministry, Kaduna state, for
questioning over allegations of asking
church members to pay N310,000 to
prepare them for rapture.
According to the police, Abraham had
asked his church members to relocate
from Kaduna to a camp in Araromi-Ugbesi
in Omuo-Oke, Ekiti state.
The pastor was said to have told his
church members that the relocation was
in order to “prepare for the end of the
world”.

Bauchi State Police Command said that a 16-
year-old boy was found in a bush where his
two eyes were removed at Dutsen Jira, Yelwa
area of Bauchi metropolis.
Police spokesman Ahmed Wakil in a
statement on Friday, said that: “At about
1800hrs, we received a distress call from the
Ward Head of Birshi, Mohammed Lawal, that a
boy of about 16 years was found in his pool
of blood with two of his eyes removed at
Dutsen Jira of Yelwa Area of Bauchi
metropolitan.
“A team of Policemen led by DPO in Yelwa
moved to the scene of the crime and
evacuated the victim to Abubakar Tafawa
Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi
(ATBUTH) for treatment.”
Wakil said that the preliminary investigation
revealed the victim Uzairu Salisu is a resident
of Kwanan Gulmammu Jahun Quarters.
The victim told the police that one Ibrahim of
Rafin Zurfi area “whom he knows for some
time lured him to a bush for a menial job on
his farm, the suspect, Ibrahim used a cable
wire to strangulate the victim and remove his
two eyes.”
Police said the victim is receiving treatment at
ATBUTH and assured that the outcome of its
investigation would be made public.
“To this end, the Commissioner of Police,
Umar Mamman Sanda, reiterated the need for
parents and guardians to maintain strict
vigilance of the activities of their wards. It is
pertinent now more than ever that the
whereabouts of wards and the company they
keep are constantly kept in check by all those
responsible,” Wakil said.
“Community leaders, elders and authoritative
persons should also ensure to keep an eye on
happenings within their environment and
ensure the needed intervention before
situations degenerate.
“He enjoined the citizenry of the State not to
relent in partnering with the Police, especially
with information, to remain vigilant, and report
any suspicious or abnormal movement to the
police.”

The author of a book titled “How to
Murder Your Husband” has began
serving time after her conviction for
murdering her husband.
According to reports, 71-year-old
Nancy Crampton Brophy was found
guilty of second-degree murder over
her chef husband Daniel Brophy’s
death.
A Portland jury of seven women and
five men found the Crampton Brophy
guilty of fatally shooting her 63-year-
old husband on 2 June, 2018, while he
prepped for work at the Oregon
Culinary Institute in Southwest
Portland.
Crampton Brophy began serving her
sentence this Monday. She will have to
wait 25 years before being able to
apply for parole.
Crampton Brophy’s essay was
published years before, in 2011, and
detailed various methods for
committing an untraceable killing and
professed her desire to avoid getting
caught.
Despite suggestions that the topic and
content of her writing could constitute
evidence in a trial about the murder of
a husband, Judge Christopher Ramras
excluded the essay.
During the trial, a prosecutor did
allude to the essay’s themes as
Crampton Brophy took to the stand.
The prosecution argued that Crampton
Brophy was motivated by money
problems and her husband’s life
insurance policy.
Crampton Brophy owned the same
make and model of gun used to kill her
husband and was seen on surveillance
camera footage driving to and from his
culinary institute.
Although the police never found the
murder weapon, prosecutors argued
that Crampton Brophy swapped out
the barrel of the gun used in the
shooting and then discarded it.
In Crampton Brophy’s defence,
lawyers said her ownership of the gun
parts was just part of the author’s
creative process and that Brophy may
have been murdered in a botched
robbery.
Crampton Brophy said she was only
near the culinary school by
coincidence as she had parked nearby
to work on her writing.
She also said she could not have been
motivated by money as their financial
problems at the time had been solved
by cashing in a chunk of Brophy’s
retirement savings plan.
After the murder, Crampton Brophy
was arrested in September 2018 and
has remained in custody ever since.
On hearing the verdict, she displayed
no visible reaction.

Police operatives in Anambra have rescued
35 girls from a baby factory in the Nkpor
area of the southeast state.
A statement by the spokesman of the
Anambra Police Command Ikenga
Tochukwu said the girls were rescued
during a raid in a hotel.
“Following a rigorous analysis of crime
trends and pattern, the Command
operatives on 13th June 2022, working on
information burst a hotel named Gally Gally
in Nkpor where they use children between
the ages of 14 years-17 years for sex
slaves, prostitution and baby factory,”
Ikenga said in a statement.
“The operatives rescued, 35 girls and four
of them are pregnant. The police also
arrested three persons namely: Mrs Ifeoma
Uzo age ‘F’ 35yrs, Chidiebere Alaka ‘M’
28years, and Nweke Chidiebere. We
recovered three pump action guns, seven
cartridges, and a cash sum of Eight
hundred and seventy-seven thousand, five
hundred naira (#877,500). The suspects
arrested are being interrogated with a view
to eliciting information on their involvement
and unmasking other gang members.”
He said the victims have been handed over
to the National Agency for the Prohibition
of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for the
“welfare and rehabilitation of the children.
“All suspects will be charged to court at
the end of the investigations.”
The police image maker also called on
parents and guardians to always build good
relationships with their children/wards.
“This will help to guide and direct them in
their activities,” he said. “It will help to
monitor against unforeseen issues and bad
company.

US President announces a new package of
arms and ammunition to help Kyiv fight
Russia in eastern Ukraine.
The assistance package includes coastal
defence weapons and advanced rocket
systems for the Donbas fight, US president
says.
US President Joe Biden has told his
Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr
Zelenskyy that Washington is
releasing $1bn in new security
assistance to Kyiv amid fierce
fighting in eastern Ukraine, the
White House said.
In a statement released after the call
between the two leaders on
Wednesday, Biden reaffirmed his
commitment to helping Ukraine
against what he called “Russia’s
brutal and ongoing war” on the
country.
“I informed President Zelenskyy that
the United States is providing
another $1 billion in security
assistance for Ukraine, including
additional artillery and coastal
defense weapons, as well as
ammunition for the artillery and
advanced rocket systems that the
Ukrainians need to support their
defensive operations in the Donbas,”
Biden said.
The release of aid comes from the
more than $40bn the US has
allocated for aid to Ukraine.
The US had previously sent rocket
systems to the country while
stressing that it will not provide
weapons that can reach targets
inside Russia.
Russia launched its all-out invasion
of Ukraine on February 24 after a
months-long standoff that saw
Moscow amass troops near the
Ukrainian borders as Russian
President Vladimir Putin demanded
an end to NATO expansion into
former Soviet republics.
After its failure to capture the
capital, Kyiv, Moscow has scaled
back its war objectives, shifting its
war efforts to the eastern Donbas
region and the southern parts of
Ukraine.
In recent weeks, Russian forces have
been making slow advances in the
area. Russia captured the strategic
port city of Mariupol last month, and
it is seeking the surrender of
Ukrainian fighters remaining in the
town of Severodonetsk .
US officials have said they are
tailoring their military assistance to
Ukraine to the needs of the
battlefield in Donbas.
“The bravery, resilience, and
determination of the Ukrainian
people continues to inspire the
world,” Biden said on Wednesday.
“And the United States, together with
our allies and partners, will not
waver in our commitment to the
Ukrainian people as they fight for
their freedom.”
The US president also announced
$225m in humanitarian assistance to
Ukrainians. The funds will go to
“supplying safe drinking water,
critical medical supplies and health
care, food, shelter, and cash for
families to purchase essential items”
inside the country, Biden said.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken
also spoke with his Ukrainian
counterpart Dmytro Kuleba on
Wednesday.
“The Secretary and Foreign Minister
Kuleba discussed steps to expedite
the delivery of heavy weaponry to
Ukraine and bolster the Ukrainian
economy, including efforts to ensure
that Ukrainian agricultural products
reach international markets,” the US
Department of State said in a
statement describing the call.
Earlier on Wednesday, US Secretary
of Defense Lloyd Austin called on
allies to step up military aid for
Ukraine to resist the Russian
invasion.
“We must intensify our shared
commitment to Ukraine’s self-
defence , and we must push
ourselves even harder to ensure that
Ukraine can defend itself, its citizens
and its territory,” Austin said at a
meeting in Brussels for dozens of
countries backing Ukraine.
In the White House statement, Biden
said he discussed Austin’s efforts in
Brussels to “coordinate additional
international support for the
Ukrainian armed forces” with
Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy. The
White House said the call between
the two leaders lasted more than 40
minutes.
The Biden administration has been
periodically announcing military aid
packages to Ukraine, each worth
hundreds of millions of dollars and
containing weapons to help
Ukrainian forces fend off the
invasion in the east.
Earlier this year, the US Congress
approved $13.6bn for Ukraine, and
last month, lawmakers authorised
another $40bn in additional military
and humanitarian assistance for the
country. The administration has
been dispensing Ukraine aid from
those funds.

An Ohio teenager was beaten to death
after he and a group of teenagers shot at
people with a water gun, police said.
Authorities were called to the scene of a
fight at the I Promise School established
by LeBron James' foundation on June 2
at 10:46 p.m., Akron Police Department
Chief Stephen Mylett said.
When officers arrived, they found 17-year-
old Ethan Liming lying on the ground in
the parking lot, unresponsive. They tried
to render aid, but Liming was pronounced
dead on the scene, Mylett said.
"Ethan Liming lost his life in a senseless
act of violence. Ethan did not deserve to
die Saturday night. He did not," Mylett
said in a press conference .
According to preliminary interviews
conducted by police, Mylett said Liming
was among a group of four juveniles who
arrived in the lot near the basketball
courts.
"Shortly after their arrival, they got out of
their vehicle, and at least two members of
occupants of the vehicle started
discharging a, what we know now to be a
SPLATRBALL Water Bead Blaster," Mylett
said. "They started discharging it at the
direction of four individuals who were
playing basketball on the basketball
court."
The individuals playing basketball initially
ran away as the two juveniles ran in their
direction. Then, the juveniles ran back to
their car and were followed by the group
of four, Mylett said at the press
conference.
"A confrontation occurs. Ethan Liming is
assaulted, and a fight ensues. At the
conclusion of it, Ethan Liming is dead,"
Mylett said.
He noted that a 911 call was placed from
the scene, but no one else was there
when police arrived three minutes later.
"The collective actions of the teens in the
car appear to have unfortunately provoked
the altercation," Mylett said in a press
update on June 8. "While these actions
appear to have played a role in the
incident, investigators do not believe the
attack or the murder were remotely
justified."
According to News 5 Cleveland,
authorities arrested three suspects on
June 11 on murder and felonious assault
charges: Deshawn Stafford, 20; Tyler
Stafford, 19; and Donovan Jones, 21.
Mylett said in the press conference and
the update that authorities had no
information to indicate the attack was
race-related. Liming was white, and the
three suspects arrested in connection
with his death are Black.
"There is nothing that we have in our
possession right now, any indication at all,
indicating that race played a role in this
homicide. Nothing," Mylett said during the
press conference.
Liming's parents, Bill and Jennifer, told
News 5 that they miss their child.
"We would do anything we could possibly
do to turn the clock back and have him in
my arms again. And to see his face
again, but they robbed me of even that
ability. And they destroyed my child's face
and his head," Bill Liming told the outlet.
He added: "People keep saying, 'Oh, you
do these things and you deserve you get
what you deserve.' I don't think anybody's
child would ever deserve what happened
to him. Nobody's child would deserve
what they did to my child,"

through London today in their birthday suits
as part of the World Naked Bike Ride, baring
all in protest of global oil dependency.
The streets of London were awash with willy
today (June 11) as thousands of men and
women took part in the daring 2022 World
Naked Bike Ride.
People cycled through the sunny capital in
their birthday suits on nine separate routes,
with the festivities kicking off at 11am in
both Croydon and Victoria Park.
The bold event's aims are threefold -
protesting the global dependency on oil to
"curb car culture", celebrating body positivity
and freedom and protecting "real rights for
cyclists".
It finished at around 6.30pm, when many of
the racy riders journeyed back to Croydon for
a clothing-optional barbeque.
Not only are participants encouraged to
flaunt what god gave them, they also deck
themselves out with body paint and wacky
accessories, often writing slogans across
their bare bodies in support of the cause.

The National security Council has blamed the
Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP)
for the attack on St. Francis Catholic Church,
Owo, that led to the death of about 38
persons on June 5.
The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, said
this on Thursday while briefing State House
Correspondents after the National Security
Council meeting in Abuja.
He disclosed that security agencies,
particularly the police, have been directed to
apprehend the perpetrators. The former
governor said the attack has no ethnic-
religious connection, affirming that the group’s
activity has nothing to do with religion.
The council, according to him, is also
concerned about killings in the name of
blasphemy and has directed the security
agencies to go after perpetrators of the
incidents that occurred in Sokoto State and
Abuja recently.
Similarly, the Inspector General of Police,
Usman Alkali Baba equally noted the imprints
of the perpetrators of the Owo killings have
been identified and although no arrests have

In a recent meeting, Governor Rotimi
Akeredolu of Ondo State said 40 persons died
in the incident while 26 survivors have been
discharged from hospitals in the area.
“The figure I have now shows that 127
persons were involved and that the number of
death now is 40. On admission receiving
treatment, we have 61. Twenty-six have been
discharged,” he said on Wednesday when he
hosted Catholic Bishops from the South-West
led by Most Reverend Leke Abegunrin.
“Those are the figures we have now from the
Commissioner for Health. So, the government
is not hiding anything.”

A delegate at the presidential primary
of the ruling All Progressives
Congress (APC) from Jigawa State,
Isah Baba-Buji, slumped and died
while taking his breakfast on
Tuesday in Abuja.
The APC spokesperson in Jigawa,
Bashir Kundu, confirmed the
incident to reporters in Jigawa. He
said the official was pronounced
dead while taking his breakfast and
preparing to move to the venue of
the party convention.
Mr Kundu said Mr Baba-Buji’s body
was being prepared to be conveyed
back to Jigawa State for burial rites.
Mr Baba-Buji was the APC vice
chairman for Jigawa Southwest.
More details about his death will be
provided later.
The APC is holding its presidential
primary in Abuja to elect its
presidential candidate.
Three party delegates from each of
the 774 local governments across
Nigeria are eligible to vote in the
primary.

ML Raghunath, a principal district- and sessions-court judge, recounted the case on May 27 at a press conference at a court in Mysuru, a city in the southwestern region of India, The New Indian Express reported. Raghunath told the outlet he was a district judge in Ballari when he attended to what he called the "Maggi case." He did not provide information on the date of the case or the names of the couple involved. Insider was not able to independently verify the case. The man said his wife would buy packets of Maggi noodles, a brand of instant noodles, and serve them to him for breakfast, lunch, and dinner throughout their marriage, Raghunath said at the press conference, according to the news outlet. Eventually, the couple divorced with mutual consent, the judge said. Under India's Special Marriage Act of 1954 , divorce by mutual consent requires both parties to live separately for one year and agree to dissolve the marriage. A presidential aspirant on the platform of
the All Progressives Congress, Bola
Ahmed Tinubu, has said he holds
President Muhammadu Buhari in high
regard.
Reactions had trailed Mr Tinubu’s
comments in Abeokuta on Thursday where
he said he deserves to lead the nation after
helping President Buhari win the 2015
election.
In a statement on Friday, Tinubu said his
comments were not meant to disrespect
the President and had been taken out of
context.
He said reactions suggesting he had been
disrespectful were sensational and
incorrect.

I HAVE HIGH REGARD AND
RESPECT FOR PRESIDENT BUHARI
We have entered the meat of
primary season. Sensationalism
and wilful inaccuracy tend to push
aside truth during such moments. I
make this statement so that truth
and accuracy may have a chance. It
is important that people truly know
what I said and where I stand.
Whatever view you have of me is
within your right to make. But let it
be based on truth and not on
falsehood or reckless exaggeration.
There have been gross
misinterpretations in some sections
of the media regarding comments I
made on Thursday in Abeokuta, the
Ogun State capital. To a degree, the
erroneous interpretations may be
somewhat innocent given that I
spoke in Yoruba. Those who do not
understand the nuances of this
richly layered and subtly language
may have inadvertently yet
erroneously missed the true
meaning of what I said while
attempting to translate my
statement. Instead of weighing
what I said carefully, they translated
so quickly and thus inaccurately in
an attempt to meet media
deadlines. Of course, there are also
those who knew better but they
conveyed these inaccuracies
because the sensationalism suits
their political purposes.
Again, such propaganda and
misinformation becomes daily fare
in the heat of the political season.
Let’s just state what needs to be
stated. My opponents want to
present a narrative that I made
comments disrespectful of
President Muhammadu Buhari in
hopes that such a narrative would
convince President Buhari to
oppose my aspirations regarding
the approaching primary. President
Buhari is an experienced and
accomplished leader. I do not
believe he will be taken by the
tricks of such people.
Let me also erase any doubt. My
respect and regard for President
Buhari as Commander-in-Chief of
this nation and as a person are
high and unfailing. I shall never
denigrate him. I certainly did not do
so in Abeokuta. We have been
political partners for a long time
and I hope that partnership
continues well into the future. I
would do nothing to jeopardize it. I
believe our party is the best hope
for the nation to right itself. I
believe I have a future role larger
than the one I now have. I also
believe President Buhari has a
continuing and important role to
play even after his tenure as
president is over.
Indeed, I consistently supported the
president and his administration.
Even when the administration has
come under intense criticism, my
feet have always been planted
solidly in defence of the president.
The president personally nominated
me to coordinate his re-election
campaign in 2019. He did this not
because I opposed him or because
I was indifferent. He did so,
because I was firmly with him in
2015 and has stood firmly beside
him ever since. When I publicly
announced my aspiration to seek
the party nomination for the
upcoming presidential election, I
stressed that my strategic objective
was to build on the foundation laid
by the Buhari administration. In
fact, I believe I was the first
aspirant to inform President Buhari
of his presidential intention. It was
a sign of the respect I have for him
and his office. It is unthinkable that
I would asperse the leader of the
party for which I hope to be the
next flag bearer. It makes no sense
at all to do such an indelicate,
unseemly thing.
In Abeokuta, I spoke to the
unwarranted attacks against my
person that have been part of the
campaign of others. I also
recounted the history of the party
for those whose memories need
repair. There are many who had no
role in the birth of the APC and in
its many victories. Now that the
party has climbed the political
summit, they want to claim credit
for something they had no part in.
However, this cannot be said of
President Buhari. I am proud of my
role in the advent of the APC and
its electoral successes. But
President Buhari, of course, stands
as the main driver of this success.
He was elected president twice. He
has borne the weight of national
governance for seven years.
Nothing can rival that. I would not
dare belittle what he has done and
what he has meant to the party and
nation.
President Buhari is a Nigerian
patriot, a man of integrity. These
qualities won him tremendous
mass support leading to electoral
victory in 2015 and 2019. I am
proud to have been his partner in
the political merger that became the
APC and in making history by
ousting an incumbent president for
the first time in Nigeria.
I make no apologies for seeking the
party’s nomination. I believe I have
something important to offer
Nigeria that the other aspirants do
not have, although I see them as
good and committed Nigerians in
their own right. While I want this
office, there are certain things I will
not do and certain lines I shall not
cross. I shall never belittle myself
by denigrating the president or his
office. I dare not seek an office and
disrespect it at the same time.
My aspiration to be President of
Nigeria is based on my want to
serve the nation and not that I feel
some personal entitlement to high
office. Governance of this nation is
a sacred and solemn duty. It is
neither to be given as a favour to
someone who is unqualified nor
should people be motivated by
personal reasons to prevent the
most qualified person from
attaining the office. The wellbeing
of over 200 million souls is at
stake. Let us all realise this and act
accordingly, I only desire a level-
playing ground for all aspirants and
an adherence to stipulated rules
and due process. If in the fairness
of such a process, I do not emerge
as the party’s candidate, I shall
have no complaints regarding an
honest primary and will accept the
fair outcome as a true democrat.

Death-defying moment as group of women scale the inside of a huge dried-up well to collect a small bucket of water.
In a display of sheer courage, one determined lady performs a 'tightrope-style' walk around the rim of the well before climbing down into it on near-invisible steps.
The area is believed to have been experiencing problems from drought on-and-off for three years.
Out of desperation for clean drinking water, women are having to make the hazardous descent as the water source dries up further.
After making it down much of the way of tiny metal steps, the women in the video then has to navigate the outcrops of rock in order to get close enough to lower her cannister down.
As other women's cannisters clang down the sides of the well, it creates a weird drum-roll noise that matches the precarious situation the women finds herself in. 
She makes the last part of the journey by holding onto a thin rope held from above, safely reaching the wet floor of the well.
Having made it down without an accident, other women begin to make the scary climb, abseiling on thin ropes as empty plastic bottles hurtle down to the water next to them.
Bhagwan Madhe, an activist with a local non-profit organisation ‘Shramajeevi Sanghathana,’ shot the video of the women making the climb in Badewadi village on April 20.
Madhe said the region has been experiencing severe water problems for the last three years and that government officials have failed to address the crisis.
'Most women are risking their lives to get water and luckily no accident has taken place so far,' he added.
With many parts of India are reeling from a severe drought, women in rural villages are risking their lives to fetch water for their families.
Water sources have virtually dried up in 25 villages of Trimbakeshwar Taluka in Nashik District of western India, so many women are forced to make the treacherous descent down the walls to draw water at the bottom.

My interaction today with the leadership
of the Anambra Muslim Community was
quite revealing. A people from various
parts of the country united in faith and a
shared consciousness of the divine, with
a rich understanding of our cultural
diversity.
Alhaji Ilyasu Yushau is the Sarkin
Hausawa in Onitsha (this means the
leader of the Hausa community in
Onitsha: Picture in first frame). Born
72years ago in Anambra, a proud old Boy
of the famous CKC Onitsha. He confesses
to owing all he has become to Onitsha, a
place he identifies as home. His story is
similar to that of majority ndị Igbo living
in the North, estimated to be about eleven
million.
I am deeply touched by their deep
understanding of the challenges we face
as a people, they are not Ignorant of the
ploy by criminal elements to cause
disaffection through stoking ethnic and
religious tension in order to further their
criminal enterprise.
We know better, the people now know
better.
The world is made up of two groups of
people -- the good and the bad. In every
ethnic, religious or tribal group you will
find this two group of people.
Our government is committed to
protecting the lives, properties and rights
of all lawful citizens within the State. I
swore to do this, and I will keep to it. I
look forward to events and programs that
will deepen inter-faith/inter-religious
harmony in our great State.
We are the Light of the Nation. We cannot
be placed under the bushel.

A US woman has fatally shot a man who opened fire on a crowd of people with a semi-automatic rifle in Charleston, West Virginia.

Dennis Butler, a 37-year-old with an extensive criminal history, was killed after he targeted a group of around 40 people attending a birthday party.

Police spokesman Tony Hazelett said the woman's quick reaction saved lives and may have prevented a mass shooting.

It comes amid a national debate over guns after a school shooting in Texas.

Butler had driven by the area earlier on Wednesday evening when he was warned to slow down because children were playing.

He returned armed with an AR-15-type rifle and opened fire from his vehicle on the birthday-graduation party outside the apartment complex in the city.

Mr Hazelett told a news conference that the woman who fired back did not have any law enforcement background. She has not been identified.

"She's just a member of the community who was carrying her weapon lawfully," he said. "And instead of running from the threat she engaged with the threat and saved several lives."

The woman remained at the scene after the shooting, and is co-operating with investigators.

Charges will not be filed against her, police added.

Butler was found dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

Mr Hazelett said it is not yet clear how Butler obtained the weapon - which he was not legally allowed to carry as a convicted felon.

The shooting comes after a teenage gunman killed 21 people at a Texas primary school with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle that had been purchased legally.

The attack, America's worst school shooting in a decade, reignited the debate over private gun ownership, which is enshrined in the US Constitution.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday
paid a special condolence visit to the
families of the nine persons who died in the
Sabon Gari, Kano, gas explosion.
The President, who was at the palace of the
Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, during the
condolence visit, said he was in Kano for a
national assignment but thought he should
see them to sympathise with them.
Speaking during the visit, Governor Umar
Abdullahi Ganduje, said his government has
already provided N1 million to each family.
He said 27 persons were seriously injured
and the government has taken over the
medical cost of their treatments, adding that
measures to prevent a recurrence have been
taken.
Bayero thanked the President for visiting the
families of those who died in the incident.
He said this signifies the President’s
concern and love for Nigerians, adding that
his Emirates would continue to pray for
peace and stability in the country.
Bayero also commended the President for
doing all he could to saved Nigeria from
collapse, praying that the forthcoming
general elections would be peaceful and
Nigeria would have desired leaders like him
who are concerned with the growth and
progress of the nation.

On December 9, 2017, a Tanzanian man identified as Hatibu Hussein Kifunza regained his freedom after being wrongly put on a death row for 20 years.

Before his life went south, Hussein can be described as a well-to-do man as he had 6 houses in the city all rented out and lived in another which he also owned.

Hussein's arrest, conviction and sentence
Speaking with Afrimax, the now physically challenged man said it all started when he had a certain tenant rent one of his apartments.

One day, soldiers called at the said house, got the tenant and requested to see the landlord. Sharing his story in his local dialect, Hussein who had his education up to primary 7 said he rushed to see the soldiers and discovered that the said tenant was accused of committing a crime.

According to the soldiers, his tenant robbed and murdered someone. The force men arrested the landlord and accused him of aiding and abetting a known criminal.

From the arrest, he, the accused tenant and 6 others were charged to court and given capital punishment as their final sentences. Hussein couldn't believe his eyes as he was innocent.

Hussein was favoured by two presidents

Hussein said as a death row inmate, he was taken to a holding facility in Ukonga in Ilala District of the Dar es Salaam Region of Tanzania before being moved to another location.

A successive president then gave him freedom after 20 years as a death row inmate. Hussein said he almost lost his mind owing to his ordeal as a death row inmate. Upon his release, he got home to discover all his 6 houses have been sold off by his brother at lower prices and without his consent.

For fear of having anything to do with prison, Hussien said he decided not to take his brother to court and now lives with his mum. He however suffers from a leaking bladder and needs aid to get treatment.
