The Nigerian government has condemned the assault of a Nigerian diplomat by immigration officials in Indonesia.-
A viral video shows at least three men in a vehicle assaulting the official in front of his official residence in Jakarta, the Indonesian capital.
The footage shows how the diplomat was manhandled and tortured by immigration officials, as he cried out in pain.
The official, who was dressed in a white long-sleeve shirt, could be heard shouting “I can’t breathe, My neck, I can’t breathe.”
Two of the men held his hands and pinned him down in the backseat of the car, while another freely assaulted his face.
Nigerian foreign ministry complained about the incident it called “unacceptable and unfortunate.”
It is against international law and the Vienna Conventions governing Diplomatic and Consular Relations between States, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement on Monday.
“The Nigerian Government has complained strongly to the Government of Indonesia, and the Ambassador of Indonesia to Nigeria was summoned by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs.”
According to the statement, the ambassador explained what he understood happened and apologised unreservedly on behalf of the Government of Indonesia.
The Nigerian government has also sent an official protest to the government of Indonesia, the statement added.
“The Ambassador of Nigeria to Indonesia has confirmed that the immigration official involved had since come to the Nigerian Embassy to apologise to the Ambassador and the diplomat concerned,” the foreign ministry said.

Some gunmen on Friday attacked Government Secondary School, Unguwar Sarki, in Kaduna metropolis when SS3 students were about to write their NECO examination and took away packaged question papers.
It was reliably gathered that when the gunmen stormed the school, they ordered the NECO supervisor to surrender the examination papers.
The supervisor’s explanation that it was question papers meant for final year students who were writing NECO fell on deaf ears as the attackers grabbed the packaged papers.
“They snatched the wrapped examination papers and answer sheets and left,” Abdullah Mohammed, one of the students said.
The Principal of the school, Hajiya Bilkisu Aliyu, said in an interview with newsmen, that the gunmen trailed the NECO supervisor from a commercial bank along Alkali Road where she had gone to collect the exam questions and answer sheets.
“Thinking it was money, they demanded she hand over the bulk of the wrapped papers to them and threatened to shoot her.
“They were told it was not money but they would not listen. They snatched the papers and disappeared into thin air,” she said.
Meanwhile, a parent, Sanusi Umar, whose child was among those writing the senior exams, said, “What we heard initially was bandits had come to kidnap our students. So hundreds of parents stormed the school.
“However, on getting to the school, we were told it was armed robbers that came to take away the wrapped examination papers thinking it was money.
“I want to call on the government and security agencies to beef up security in schools since these criminals are now targeting our schools.”
It was gathered that the school and NECO staff had to mobilise exam papers from other centres to enable the students to write the affected papers under strict security surveillance.
DAILY POST recalls that gunmen stormed Bethel Baptist School on Monday 7th July, 2021 and kidnapped 121 students. Irked by the action of kidnappers, the Kaduna State Government penultimate week closed down some schools that are prone to security threat.
Kaduna is known as a nerve centre for security threats.
As at the time of filing the report, there was no statement from the state Ministry of Education about the incident.

Used as a hot button in political debates, the idea that 98% of what you learn is a waste gets tossed around often in conversation. Most of us know it’s true that not everyone will need Algebra and Trigonometry during their life, but is it also true that 98% of what we learn is a total waste?
Democrats and other advocates looking to change the school system have long said that a large percentage of what children are taught doesn’t actually help them. Some even say that the way the lessons are taught is also problematic, allowing very little room for comprehension but plenty for competition. Some lifelong teachers point to the pressure of standardized test scores as a reason that school is a waste of time while others simply say that 98% of what kids learn is a waste altogether.
However, many of those ideas behind learning are misguided and not based in how the brain learns. Since the brain is constantly learning based on perception of it’s environment, the notion that 98% of what we learn is a waste is a bit short sighted. Learning isn’t just about memorizing the times tables and knowing when to use prepositional phrases but is also about seeing how to act in groups, learning to follow directions and developing a sense of self discipline.
Is 98% of what we learn a waste?
If 98% of what we learn is a waste, what could be taught that makes our time spent learning worthwhile? Some intellects and philosophers believe that as long as something is learned that no time was wasted. However, others believe that teaching kids more “valuable lessons” in school could help us be sure that we learn is usable.
Even among the proponents of changing the system so that 98% of what we learn isn’t a waste have differing opinions on what kind of learning we could institute that would accomplish such a task. Parents point to teachers and teachers point back to parents, but that kind of blame game does very little to change what and how we learn. If the changes did occur, would they ensure that we learn more than goes to waste?

More accurate than the idea that 98% of what we learn is a waste is the idea that it changes. Since most of what we learn isn’t from reading books and taking tests in school, the idea that learning is synonymous to education is the actual problem. Every second your brain is processing inputs from all of your senses. It learns something from every single input. The brain learns things and makes associations that we are not even aware of. As humans, we survive by learning. Over the years our research has taught us many things. some things that were useful immediately and some things that were not useful until years after they were learned.
What we learn from our everyday interactions is just as important as what we learn in a classroom. Looking at it from that perspective – it is NOT true that 98% of what we learn is a waste.

Ligon has maintained that he didn't personally kill anyone in the case that saw him sentenced to life in prison without parole before he was even old enough to drive.
Nearly seven decades later on February 11, Ligon stepped out of federal prison a free man, after his lawyer successfully convinced the court that the life sentence was unconstitutional.
While most people from Ligon's life before prison are no longer around, he isn't alone. Philadelphia's Youth Sentencing & Reentry Project (YSRP) has been working tirelessly to make his transition into post-prison life as smooth as possible.
