The South African police are currently hunting for a man who allegedly killed his girlfriend on Saturday with a panga (broad knife) following an argument that ensued between the couple.

According to Mpumalanga News , the lifeless body of the 42-year-old woman was discovered by her 16-year-old stepson in a pit toilet when he came home from his neighbor’s house, where he had spent the night.

On getting home, the boy noticed the door to their home was wide open and found blood everywhere. Upon entering their house, he found the lifeless body of is stepmother on the floor in the toilet.

He immediately ran to his stepmother’s friend, who called the police.
South African Police spokesperson, Captain Jabu Ndubane who confirmed the incident revealed that investigations have already started.

He said:
“When police arrived at the scene, the woman was already dead. According to the information we obtained from a friend earlier, the couple were drinking alcohol and had a quarrel. They tried to calm them and left. Police discovered a bloodied panga, blood on the bed, even clothes that the boyfriend was wearing, but he was no where to be found. We are still searching for the suspect and the investigation is still on.”

How lady murdered by lover who committed suicide swindled 3 suitors

Fresh facts have emerged on the tragic death of 25-year-old Cynthia Nwafi, who was killed by her fiancé, Friday Njoku, 30, who then committed suicide after committing the crime. The incident happened on Friday, September 1, 2017, in Aguogboriga axis of Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

Sunday Sun learnt from a member of the local vigilance group that helped to convey Cynthia to the hospital before she died that she had been allegedly warned by some neighbours about her alleged inordinate relationship with men. They told a story of how she allegedly dumped her first fiancé who paid for her shop and bought some electronic devices.

“That girl had already disappointed the first man who wanted to marry her. It was that first man that paid for the container (shop) where she was sewing clothes and bought her a 20inch foam mattress, electronics and other home appliances.

“She was about dumping this one that killed her (Njoku) for a man who works in the National Obstetrics Fistula Centre, Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki. In fact, I learnt that Njoku had warned that one to leave his girlfriend alone, saying that he had already taken palm wine to her family,” the vigilante told Sunday Sun.

“The first man, in anger, told her that she would dump another man in the same manner. She actually dumped that first man for this man that killed her. That man working in the hospital is very lucky. He could have been the one that Friday would have killed,” he narrated.

“The two of them quarrelled earlier in the day. Njoku swore to her that nobody else would marry her apart from himself. I learnt that the girl replied him that he was not serious. We learnt that the guy had met with her family, to declare his interest.

“On Wednesday, we learnt that Njoku and the hospital guy exchanged words. Njoku reportedly told him to steer clear off his fiancé. Then, on Thursday night, the guy killed both the girl and himself. We did further investigation and learnt that her landlord had warned her about Njoku, who he felt had a weird character,” the vigilante said.

According to a close source, the two lovebirds had been in a relationship for quite a time. Njoku was said to have taken wine to the parents and relatives of his girlfriend to indicate his intention to marry her and was accepted by Cynthia’s family. He was making arrangements to walk her down the aisle before the tragedy happened.

Sunday Sun gathered that Njoku, a day before killing his lover had accosted her parents and accused Cynthia of infidelity.

The Cynthia’s family denied the allegation that their daughter was unfaithful to her lover. Although they admitted that the late Njoku had made known his intention to marry Cynthia, their marriage had not been sealed, hence, he had no moral justification to lay claims to her.

Cynthia’s elder brother, Meshark Offia, who debunked the allegation of infidelity queried: “How could Friday say my sister was unfaithful when they were not living together, they were not legally married?”

Narrating what transpired, Offia said: “Around 1 O’Clock in the night, I got information that one Friday Njoku from Ebonyi Local Government Area stabbed my sister to death. I went to the state police headquarters, Abakaliki and reported the matter. I learnt that the assailant killed himself after stabbing my sister to death. I also went to the mortuary and saw his corpse. Friday Njoku was my sister’s fiancé. He had not actually concluded the marriage rites but he had brought drinks for us and the family accepted him, the girl also accepted him.

“The girl was living in her house and Friday was also living in his house. They had not been joined together as the tradition demands but we were all aware that Friday was Cynthia’s fiancé though he had not paid her bride price. Friday was a motorcycle operator; my sister a fashion designer.

“My sister and Friday were in good terms. Even, Friday came to my house a day before he killed my sister. How could Friday say my sister was unfaithful when they were not living together, they were not legally married?” Meshark added.

Federal hospital allegedly turned down treatment

When the late Cynthia was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, FETHA, one of the security men told Sunday Sun that the doctors were allegedly reluctant to treat her. He said that the doctors had requested for police report before they could touch her. Sadly, Cynthia who had already lost much blood gave up the ghost on the hospital bed.

“FETHA requested for police extract before they could handle her. So by the time police arrived, she was already down. She lost a lot of blood.

“If you go to that hospital with that kind of wound, they would tell you to bring police extract and you should bring money while you come. It is not proper,” another member of the vigilance group said.

When contacted, the hospital management denied the allegation, describing it as baseless and unfounded. Speaking to Sunday Sun, the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr Nnadozie Ugochukwu, said that doctors attended to the late Cynthia immediately.

Ugochukwu, who brandished late Cynthia’s medical folder, said: “Such a thing had never and would never happen in this hospital.

“That allegation is not true. You cannot die in FETHA because you don’t have money. In the first 24 hours of your presentation, definitely you’ll receive all levels of care. It does not matter what is needed so far it is available in the hospital.

“The primary essence of our hospital is to save life. When this report came it was strange. You can see on the folder, what is written here is ‘Not Yet Paid” he said.​

Tragedy struck on Saturday, September 9, as a nursing mother was reportedly crushed to death by a truck while crossing the road at Siun axis along the Siun-Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway.

ToriMill reports that the accident was been caused by the speeding driver of the truck.
The truck, after crushing the woman who was said to be nursing a three-month baby, later hit two other men, before it came to a halt.

The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the accident occurred around 9am and the ill-fated vehicle was a Mercedes Actros truck with number plate PKP 464 XA.

He said, “The information gathered by our operatives at the scene of the accident indicated that the driver of the truck was speeding.
“After it crushed the woman, the truck hit two other men who sustained injuries.”

A witness Akinbiyi told ToriMill reporters that the driver ran away immediately after the auto crash, while police had towed the truck to the station.

He said the body of the victim had been handed over to her family because doctors at the Olabisi Olabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, were on strike.

The committee investigating alleged unethical conducts and s*xual harassment of suspects’ family members by policemen attached to Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism Squad of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, Lagos State, has started its sitting.

According to ToriMill source, all parties were present at the meeting on Thursday, during which the former Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism Squad, CSP Akinade Adejobi, and his men were quizzed.

Although Lagos Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, gave the committee seven days to submit its report, Punch gathered that the panel might conclude its investigation on Friday (today).

Recall that a single mum of two, Blessing Taiwo, had been accused by her boss, Mrs. Abiola Osagie, of stealing $50,000.
Osagie, who is the Managing Director of the Ikoyi, Lagos office of AfricInvest, a multinational consulting and equity firm, had alleged that she left the money in the office before going on a trip for a few weeks.

She said by the time she returned, the money had disappeared, adding that 43-year-old Blessing had explanations to give concerning the missing money.

The Abeokuta, Ogun State indigene, was said to have been arrested by policemen from the Ikoyi division, along with Osagie’s driver, Mr. Oluwaseun Sodiya, who was paid N10,000 to clean up the office during his boss’ absence.

The matter was later transferred from the police station to the SCIID, Yaba, from where it was referred to the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism Squad, Surulere.
The suspects were detained for four days as the OC, Adejobi, allegedly refused to grant them bail.

He was alleged to have admitted them to bail after Blessing’s family paid N50,000 out of the N70,000 charged for her freedom, while the driver’s family paid N29,000 before he was released.

Blessing’s sister, Florence narrate to ToriMill that she (Florence) was always harassed by policemen anytime she took food to her sister in the cell, adding that the policemen touched her privates and breasts.

The driver’s wife, Oluwanifemi, also alleged that she was s*xually assaulted, saying one of the policemen caressed her and demanded a date despite knowing that she was married.

The CP, Imohimi, after removing Adejobi as the head of the unit, set up a committee to investigate the allegations. He also returned the original case to the Ikoyi Police Station.

During the Thursday sitting of the committee, the embattled OC allegedly denied knowledge of the s*xual harassment, adding that when he heard of the bail issue, he acted promptly by punishing the policemen involved.

The meeting reportedly started at 11am and ended at 2.15pm.

A source who report to ToriMill said, “Three people were actually detained: Blessing, the driver, and a cleaner. Blessing’s sister, Folakemi, said she paid N50,000; the driver’s family said they paid N29,000, while the cleaner said his family paid N22,000.

“One of the policemen said to have collected the money, Sheu, denied making any demand for money or collecting anything. But Blessing’s family confronted him with hard evidence.
“They said the man demanded N2m and they thought he was joking. Later, they said they begged him to collect N40,000, but he refused, saying they should make it N200,000 because he would not be able to present N40,000 to his superiors, who will not accept it. In the end, they gave him N50,000.”
Adejobi was reported to have said he was not around on the day of the incident. ToriMill reports

The second-in-command of the former OC is expected to present himself for questioning on Friday.
The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Ikoyi division was asked why he transferred the case to the SCIID.

“The Ikoyi DPO said he transferred the case due to the volume of money involved, which was beyond the capacity of his division. He said he also didn’t have the resources to investigate the case because it could take time and manpower. He said there was no substantial evidence for prosecution. So, he decided to move it to the SCIID.

“The former OC anti-kidnapping, who was asked how the matter got to his section which ordinarily should not be there, said he was a police officer and could investigate any case. He said the matter was referred to him by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCIID, Bolaji Salami, and he could not say no to his superior.

“At the end of the day, everybody believes the DCP SCIID, Salami, has a case to answer for sending a case that shouldn’t have gone to anti-kidnapping there. That is the crux of the matter now,” another source said.

It was reported to ToriMill that cases of stealing are usually referred to the D3 Section (General Investigation) of the SCIID. It is, however, not clear why Salami referred the case to the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism Squad.

On issue of the s*xual harassment, Blessing’s sister, Florence, and the driver’s wife, Oluwanifemi, narrated their ugly experiences as they were questioned by officers from the gender unit.

The phone number of one of the policemen, said to be in the possession of one of the victims, was reportedly dialled and a mobile application, TrueCaller, revealed his identity.

He is expected to be at the Friday meeting. “Friday is probably going to be the final meeting."ToriMill report.
