Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu; the Department of State Services (DSS) and others over an attack on her at the National Assembly. Usman was attacked on December 3 by people suspected to be linked to the chairman of Ocean Maritime Solutions Limited (OMSL), Idahosa Okunbo, Igbere Tv reports. In a petition addressed to the IGP, the Senate President, and DSS Director-General, Usman explained that she was at the Senate on the said date to honour the invitation of the Joint Committee on Navy, Marine Transport and Finance to its public hearing on the Safe Anchorage Area of the Lagos Ports. Usman’s visit to the Senate followed a motion on “illegal security activities by OMSL at the Safe Anchorage Area of Lagos Ports and the need to investigate their excesses” moved by Senator George Sekibo during plenary on November 7. She explained that the committee had invited other parties, which included the Nigerian Navy and the OMSL. “In the course of the session, Captain (Dr) Idahosa Wells Okunbo of OMSL, having made his submission, stormed out visibly angry breathing fire and brimstone. Following Captain Idahosa Wells Okunbo outburst and abrupt exit, the Chairman of the Joint Committee closed the session,” she said in the petition. Writing further, Usman said: “On leaving the meeting room some hoodlums that accompanied Captain Okunbo to the hearing ambushed me at the exit door and tried to push their way towards me to physically attack me, raining abuses on me that I was taking food away from them and their boss, and that they will find me and destroy me.” The NPA boss explained that it took the efforts of her security detail and the Executive Director, Marine and Operations of NPA, Dr Sekonte Davies, and security personnel deployed from the office of the Deputy Senate President for her and her entourage to leave the premises unhurt. While calling for the full investigation of the incident with the intent of bringing the culprits to face the full wrath of the law, Usman said she takes the direct threats to her life issued by these hoodlums seriously. She added that Okunbo should be held responsible if any harm should befall her or any member of her family. Usman described the action of the hoodlums as the height of impunity and disrespect. http://igberetvnews.com/1179962/npa-md-hadiza-usman-petitions-ig-dss-attack-nass/

Founder of One Love Family, Guru Maharaj Ji, has described the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, as fit and suitable for the presidency in 2023. Debates have been widespread over the possibility of the APC fielding the former Lagos State governor as its presidential candidate after President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure expires in 2023. Maharaj Ji, however, on Wednesday at a news conference held at Maharaj Ji village to herald his ministry’s golden age festival, said he would offer support for Tinubu if he is chosen by his party. “Anybody can become the president of Nigeria as long as he or she places the interest of the country above personal interest. “If there is anyone who is fit in the south, it is Sen. Bola Tinubu. So, I will offer him for president if the presidency is going to come from South-West. “This is because he has been able to play the role of a mobiliser and bridge-builder across the country. Also, Peter Obi is a fine choice from the South-East,” he said. Maharaj Ji added that there was no rift between President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, saying reports of a crisis between the duo are being created by a fifth column. He called on government to establish education bank to avail indigent Nigerians access to quality education. The religious leader expressed support for the government’s closure of borders, saying such move would add economic value to the country. He issued a three-day ultimatum to the Miyetti-Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) to retract its threats to southern governors over their refusal to make grazing land available in their respective states. http://igberetvnews.com/1149878/tinubu-fit-2023-presidency-guru-maharaj-ji/

Nigerian singer Tuface has reacted to Blackface's continous threat of suing him on air and via social media. The ex-band member of defunct Plantashun Boiz who is celebrating his 20 years on stage anniversary alleged that what Blackface has done so far is to engage in a smear campaign. Tuface told newsmen that his former bandmate has a problem but no one knows what the problem is. He said "Let me put it like this, you just go on air and start spinning lies. I have never said or done anything bad to Blackface, but he just goes on air and starts lying all the time because he wants to spread hate. It is a smear campaign. "He keeps saying he is going to sue me, so I am saying sue me! You know say I no thief your song, you just want people to hate me. Stop the nonsense. Anytime he comes on air, ask him ‘wetin im do wey make me sue am? Ask am whether I no write am letter before say guy stop this thing, I did not steal your song’. What have I done to him? He just hates me. It has become an obsession and it is not healthy for him anymore and there is nothing I can say or do to help his dilemma, so I don’t know. It is not like I am giving up, but it is all up to him now. He has to free himself from that bondage. "Everyday, he keeps digging himself into this mess and now he has kids growing up. It is unfortunate. Before, I was quiet but he is always blabbing. Had I taken it serious from the beginning, we wouldn’t be here today. Legally, I have done my own bit, so I don’t have anything to tell him. The funny thing is that he has a problem but nobody knows what the problem is. So, if you will not sue me then shut up! Stop killing yourself; it is becoming too embarrassing. I can’t get him arrested and sent to a psychiatric hospital, so please, people around him should talk to him." https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2019/11/sue-me-or-shut-up-tuface-tells-blackface.html

A High Court in Bwari, Abuja on Thursday threw out the case filed by Photographer, Busola Dakolo against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA). This came after Fatoyinbo filed an objection and an affidavit at the Court reiterating that Busola’s statements were false and concocted to embarrass, scandalise and ridicule Fatoyinbo, Igbere TV reports. He argued that from the inception, she sought the attention of the media and press, and brought the civil action even while the Police’s investigation was ongoing. According to Justice Oathman A. Musa in her judgment, the matter amounted to injustice, and an abuse of judicial process as the case was empty and purely sentimental, adding that the case was aimed more at cruelty than obtaining justice. The court also awarded costs of N1,000,000 against Busola Dakolo and held that the fine should have been 10 times more because the court’s time was wasted. Dakolo had filed the suit against Fatoyinbo after she claimed that the COZA pastor raped her 20 years ago when she was 16 years in Ilorin, Kwara State. Fatoyinbo denied the allegations and even took a break from the pulpit and later came back to ministration. http://igberetvnews.com/1135039/breaking-court-strikes-busola-dakolos-rape-suit-pastor-fatoyinbo-fines-n1m/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

President Muhammadu Buhari’s request for the sum of N10bn to be paid to the Kogi State government as refund for projects executed on behalf of the federal government, has been approved by the Senate. The approval came after the chairman of the senate committee on local and foreign debts, Clifford Ordia presented his report on the projects carried out by the Kogi State government. “Based on our findings, some of the highways were in the state of disrepair before the intervention was carried out,” Ordia said. “The state government has paid all the contractors that constructed the road. “Our humble recommendation is that the senate do approve the refund of N10 billion for projects executed on behalf of the federal government.” Senate minority leader Enyinnaya Abaribe spoke against the approval, saying the money might be misused, Igbere TV reports. “What I don’t want is the misuse of these funds because it is for the people of the Kogi state,” Abaribe said. “This is not the right time, this is the time where the exigencies of the moment may be used.” The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan however said approving the money 2 days to the Governorship election in the state was just a coincidence. “Kogi state applied for this in the last senate, all the other states were paid. Kogi was not approved at that time, we as a senate has seen it as a necessity and it is a coincidence,” he said. http://igberetvnews.com/1132709/approving-n10bn-kogi-2-days-election-coincidence-senate-president-lawan/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

There was a mild drama at Court 7, Federal High Court, Abuja, as application by the Department of State Services (DSS) counsel, Hassan Liman, to take witnesses in the ongoing trial of Omoyele Sowore, Convener, #RevolutionNow Protest, in-camera failed. Sowore, alongside Olawale Bakare, is charged by the DSS with treasonable felony, money laundering, among others. Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu had, on Oct. 21, adjourned commencement of trial till Nov. 6 and Nov. 7, after varying the bail conditions granted Sowore, and his co-defendant, Bakare. Justice Ojukwu had granted the order in a ruling on the application for a bail variation by the duo. However, on Wednesday before the commencement of the trial, the screen shield was already set up in the court for witnesses to be taken. But it was dismantled shortly before Justice Ojukwu took her seat. As soon as court proceeding started, DSS Counsel, Liman, SAN, told the court that the agency was ready to commence the trial based on the order of the court in the last sitting, Igbere TV reports. However, Counsel to the 1st defendant, Femi Falana, SAN, prayed the court for an adjournment of the matter to enable them to perfect the defendants’ bail conditions. Falana, who told the court that the security outfit had made it difficult for them to have access to the defendants to prepare for the trial, said even in court, they were only given less than five minutes to converse with them. Quoting the law, he said defendants are expected to be given adequate time and facilities for their defence. Falana hinted that all the bail conditions have been met but they needed time to perfect them. He also accused the DSS of planning a secret trial for his client. However, Counsel to the DSS, Liman, SAN, objected to the application for adjournment, saying the defendants’ counsel had had ample time to perfect the bail conditions and prepare for the trial. Liman, who disagreed that the DSS had not given the opportunity to meet the defendants, said they were given unrestricted access to them. Unhappy with Liman’s response, Falana told Justice Ojukwu that the prosecution counsel had told him before the commencement of the trial that their witnesses would be taken in camera. He said Liman’s statement was evident with the setting up of screen shield by the witness box close to the judge’s door. According to Falana, I was told that the witnesses will come in through My Lord’s door to the screen shield where they will testify. “They have made an arrangement with the deputy chief registrar to take the witnesses on camera without our knowledge. “This is an ambush. But all of a sudden, the court Clark dismantled the shield,” he said. The lawyer said when Liman discovered that the plan did not, he approached him for cooperation. He said the act was meant to embarrass the court and the defendants. When Justice Ojukwu asked Liman on what transpired, the DSS told the court that an application was made to take the witnesses in camera. He said though it was not a judicial arrangement, an administrative arrangement was made in that regard through the Deputy Chief Registrar (DCR) of the court, Mr Femi Ekperobe. Justice Ojukwu, therefore, summoned the DCR to explained why such an arrangement was made without the court’s knowledge. Ekperobe, who confirmed the development, told the court that such an arrangement is meant for high profile cases. He said, “the prosecution counsel made an application to the effect to which approval was given in view of high profile nature of the case.” The judge, who was unaware of the arrangement, asked the prosecution counsel “who is in charge of the court?” Liman, who responded that the judge was in charge of the court, said they would appropriately apply to the court. Then the DCR was asked to go. However, Justice Ojukwu, who asked the prosecution counsel to call the first witness, ruled that the court was of the view to commence trial because when the court granted defendants bail in the last adjourned date, the court ordered an accelerated hearing on the case. Liman then read the charges against the defendants. While he was about to call the 1st witness, Falana objected to the move. Falana, in response, told the court that the DSS had not served them with the witnesses’ statements and the video recordings to enable the defence counsel prepare for the trial contrary to the ACJA Act. The human rights lawyer, who described the act as plans by the security agency to ambush them, said the DSS was not ready for the trial. Justice Ojukwu assured that justice would be done in the case despite the decision to continue with the case. “This court does not condone frivolity. Neither the prosecution nor the defence counsel can control this court. “The court has the final decision whether anyone has made an arrangement or not,” she said. Ojukwu said that every trial has a constitutional background. The judge, therefore, asked if the prosecution counsel had served the defence counsel with the documents and attached the video recordings. She said the prosecution counsel ought to have served the defendants with all the documents that would assist them in the defence. The judge, who said it was the right of the defence counsel to request for any document that would assist them, said no one can waste the precious time of the court. On his part, Liman said there was no legal requirement that required the defence to be served the written statements of witnesses since they would have been served with their names and briefs. The judge asked if they were not entitled to the documents and Liman gave a yes response. The DSS counsel, therefore, applied for more time to continue the trial and Falana did not object it. Justice Ojukwu adjourned the matter till Dec. 5 and Dec. 6 for the commencement of trial. http://igberetvnews.com/1115750/sowore-drama-in-court-as-dss-application-to-take-witnesses-in-camera-failed/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

It is now the third-largest operator in the country behind Globacom. The NCC statistics showed that it was only Globacom and Airtel that added new subscribers to their networks. Both MTN and 9mobile recorded a decline in active subscriptions for the month. According to telecom industry sources, Globacom’s record performance in September was propelled by improved service delivery. Although MTN remained the largest mobile operator in Nigeria, it lost 379,795 subscribers in the month under review. This brought its total subscribers’ figure down to 65,328,104 from the 65,707,899 it recorded in August, Igbere TV reports. The fourth mobile operator, 9mobile, lost 268,159 subscribers in September, going down from 15,602,255 in August to 15,334,096 in September. NCC said the number of active mobile users in Nigeria has now increased from 176.6 million recorded in August to 178.9 million in September. http://igberetvnews.com/1105358/glo-adds-2m-new-subscribers-in-sept-regains-second-spot/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

The Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) said it would be saving over N290 million for combining the Kogi West Senatorial District and the governorship election on Nov. 16. The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this at the commission’s quarterly consultative meeting with political parties in Abuja, on Tuesday. Yakubu said that the senatorial election would now coat less than N10 million instead of the N300 million if conducted as a standalone election, Igbere TV reports. “In the case of Kogi West, it is a whole senatorial district that the Election Petitions Tribunal and the Court of Appeal had nullified the election conducted on Feb. 23 and ordered INEC to conduct a re-run. “By coincidence, the judgment of the Appeal Court came very close to the governorship election. So the commission decided to combine the election with that of Kogi West Senatorial district. “As a standalone election, the senatorial district election in seven local government areas of the state would have cost the nation over N300 million. “We have to get ad hoc staff, make arrangements for transportation, accreditation of observers and also the cost on the part of the political parties and others. “But because we are combining the election with that of the governorship, it is going to cost the nation less than N10 million, instead of over N300 million. “So, the commission decided to combine the two elections in order to save cost and for convenience,’’ he said. The INEC chairman also disclosed that the Brass I state constituency election, holding in six polling units in Bayelsa, would also be conducted on the same day with the governorship election. According to him, INEC has already made arrangements for the elections. Yakubu appealed to political parties to advise their candidates and supporters to shun hate speech, inciting statements, physical attacks on opponents, destruction of electoral materials and other violations of the Electoral Act. http://igberetvnews.com/1098181/inec-saves-n290m-combining-kogi-state-elections/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

Popular Nigerian singer, Timi Dakolo, has said that people must now be questioned about the god they mean when they say “I give God the glory.” The music star made this statement via his Instagram post on Wednesday, October 9, in reaction to the BBC Africa Eye #SexForFGrades documentary. Earlier on Monday, a 13-minute documentary published by the British public service broadcaster was centered on the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the University of Ghana. Dr Boniface Igbeneghu, a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Arts, UNILAG, and former sub-dean, was caught on camera trying to force himself on a journalist who posed as a 17-year-old admission seeker. Igbeneghu was also the pastor of a local Foursquare Gospel Church in Lagos. Mordi, in the documentary, said she too was a victim of sexual harassment during her days in the university. She said her team took the initiative due to the clamour to expose lecturers in the habit of sexually abusing students. However, Timi, in his post condemned the lecturer’s use of the pulpit to cover his acts. “From the BBC sex for grades documentary, Oga Pastor Boniface was even praying and calling Jesus, shouting welcome to the kingdom.”he said. Adding that: “Nowadays when someone is saying ‘I give God the Glory’ We need to ask ‘which God’?”Timi’s wife, Busola, had accused the senior pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Biodun Fatoyinbo, of raping her as a teenager. She has also pressed charges against the preacher. https://www.instagram.com/p/B3Y1DBbgyke/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link https://newscapon.com/2019/10/09/bbcs-documentary-we-need-to-question-people-when-they-mention-god-timi-dakolo/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique
