Apply for only jobs with less than 5 or less than 10 applications, but not older than maybe 2 or 3 days of posting. Also, give a cheaper rate, but your proposal is honestly what will speak, write on what exactly you'll do for the person that'll improve their work, not on your qualifications.
Also, this may not work for you but maybe remove your profile picture, so they don't form a bias based on your face but on your proposal only.

Hi Pocohontas. This is just me saying thank you. We've probably never spoken here on nairaland before, but you've already been a blessing to me. I have always passively played with Upwork and fiber, never ever ever gotten a job from there as I fealt it's mainly tech people that'll benefit from it the most.
However, after I read through all your posts on this thread, I took note of all your points and the other people that posted useful information here and on a few YouTube videos, and I worked on my proposals. I interestingly gave myself one month to keep trying before giving up, as my issues has always been I lose interest, and feel they'll never pick me, but amazingly, I went back to my old account of over 6 years, before I slept I sent out just 1 proposal. I didn't even log the account on the app, the next day afternoon I mistakenly saw an email that the person replied, I was shocked, so shocked that I didn't respond till night, believing that I was going to be rejected. When I finally responded , i explained more and my proposal, and less than twelve hours later, I'm on my first Upwork contract.
Thank you so much for putting all this information out here, the stress and time. I'm the at least one person that has benefited from it. Thank you.

Funny enough, I never really liked you, I always used to mix you up with , honestly I don't also know why I didn't like her, I just see everyone as a villain, lol. But reading through here, I realized you're really smart and very determined. Thanks again and God bless you.

Oh, they were remote internships I did during the pandemic in 2020.

One lasted for three months, the other for six. I did them almost concurrently.

There are so many internship these days.

Something interesting just happened guys.
So the US based start-up which I applied to, it turns out that I applied to TWO front-end developer roles advertised by the startup.
One was for their subsidiary company, while the other was for the main company itself.

And I already scaled to the 2nd stage of the former. Which is a technical interview.

I just received a mail, with a task from the latter, meaning they've proceeded with my application.

The recruiter recognized my name and told me I applied for two roles (I been don forget aswear). She asked whether she should remove me from one, in order to focus on the other. I said NO!!!

I wanna play my cards on both roles. But this second test na die!!!

Now I have a technical interview and a rugged task to prepare for and work on respectively.

Guys, do not let anyone deceive you. Getting into tech is HARD!!!.
You have to be rugged enough to break in. The only ones who broke in easily, are those who had college internships with those big FAANG companies and big startups, and afterwards transitioned into full time workers after their graduation from Computer Science.


Me, coming from a non-technical background, means I have to prove more than just my CV. Everything is possible if we put our minds to it.

I think " Learning Python the Hard way by Zed Shaw" is a good book if you have the time and you plan to use python beyond data science ... The YouTube video might be sometime confusing , I know M**h gave me headache at a point in his course.

Update:

The Data Analytics learning group was created on Saturday 18/12/2021.
There are 23 wonderful participants ready to learn.

We started with the "Introduction to Data Analytics" course which most participants got certificates already.

Now, we're learning our first course on SQL.

For now, I feel we're making progress...

Hello Nairalanders, I know 2022 is already here and most people are already making out plans for it. So one of my plan is to get into data analysis as I here is a selling skill.
I am working on myself, as I will need a guide to begin data analysis.
I need assistance in terms of a tutor who can teach me basis, at least for an affordable price, and if there is any course people learn it from.
