wo Nigerian men who duped the secretary of a servingBombay High Court judge of Rs 2.2 lakh by befriending her on Facebook and eventually threatening her with ‘a judicial enquiry’, after she refused to make more payment were arrested by the cyber police station from New Delhi, India on Friday, April 22.The Nigerian men identified as Casmir Chijioke and Oliver Onyeka befriended the woman with one of them pretending to be a UK national. According to the BKCcyber police, the complainant, who approached them on April 6, told them that a few months ago, she receiveda friend request on Facebook from a British national. She accepted the request and the two started chatting online, said an officer.The man claimed to be from a well-to-do family and theduo started chatting frequently. Over a period of time, they became good friends and would chat almost daily, an officer said. One day, the man claimed to have beenadmitted to a hospital due to an ailment. The victim was very upset over this and communicated this to him.He then told her he was sending her a gift from the UK, as he himself could not come to India due to the ailment, an officer said.A few days after this conversation, the woman received a call from the ‘Delhi customs’, stating there was a gift being parceled to her place and she would need to pay some ‘handling fee’. An officer disclosed that she paid the amount but over the next few weeks, she kept receiving demands for more money under various pretextsto ‘facilitate the transportation of the gift’. She then became suspicious and refused to pay the ‘customs official’ anymore."At this point, the callers, who knew she worked as a secretary to a judge, threatened her that if she did not make the payment, they would approach the judiciary anda ‘judicial enquiry’ would be initiated against her," the officer said.She quickly made another payment out of fear before approaching the cyber police station on April 6,’ A team led by inspector Ravi Sardesai began probe in the matter and based on technical intelligence, found that the“British” national was actually chatting from New Delhi.A team from the BKC cyber police station camped in Delhi for a few days before they managed to arrest Casmir Chitioke and Oliver Onyeka.DCP (cyber) C S Rajkumar said,"The duo was produced before a court in Delhi and granted a transit remand to be brought to the city." Anofficer said that there is a possibility the two suspects have cheated more people using the same modus operandi. THEOlubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso I, yesterday put anend to the 19 year-old leadership crisis that rocked the Igbo community in Ibadanland.The monarch installed Chief Alloy Obi, who settled in the city in 1972, as the new leader of the Igbo in the me­tropolis and its environs, during a brief ceremony held at his Popoyemoja pal­ace.Oba Adetunji noted that Obi was made Balogun of Ndigbo of Ibadan­land in 1996 andhe has proven him­self to be given higher responsibility of leading the Igbo community in Ibadan­land.According to the monarch, the pal­ace was not unaware of the leadership crisis in the Igbo community, adding that the two contending forces, Chief Alloy Obi and Dr. Alex Anozie,were invited to the palace for amicable reso­lution. At the end of the meeting, Obi wasjustified to be the leader of Ndigbo.His words: “One of my predecessors on the stool of Olubadan made Obi Ba­logun of Ndigbo of Ibadanland. I have also deemed it fitto install Obi as the leader of Igbo communityin Ibadan­land.“The two warring factions were in­vited to the palace. They came and the palace resolved that Obi should be the leader of Ndigbo in Ibadanland. This is why I installed him today (yesterday) as the leader of the Igbo in Ibadan.”Oba Adetunji, however, enjoined the Igbo residents in Ibadan to support their new leader,warning that anybody who rises to cause crisisin the Igbo community in Ibadanland would be dealt with by the constituted authority, according to the law.An elated Obi, said: “We are here to receive Olubadan’s blessing. Today (yesterday) Olubadan has anointed me as the leader of Igbo in Ibadan. It is a great day for the entireIgbo. That is the end of the crisis of the entireIgbo in Ibadan. God has made it possible. I thank Olubadan, the high chiefs, in­cluding Igbo General Assembly and our women. They are fantastic people.

Farmers in Lagun, Iyana Offa, Offa, Atagba, Lapata and their surrounding communities in Lagelu Local Council Area of Ibadan, Oyo State, have alleged that a group of Fulani armed men attacked their communities at night, injured a guard and carted away valuables on Tuesday.More than five farms and surrounding agrarian communities were allegedly visited in the attack, with eyewitnesses saying they also suspected that the attackers were Fulani herdsmen because of their mode of dressing.Villagers, who spoke with our correspondent, said more than N500,000 was stolen by the attackers. They alleged that apart from money, clothes, shoes and foodstuffs that weretaken, cooked food items were taken away by the attackers who had a field day roaming theplaces for more than seven hours. Various sources also put the number of the attackers at between 30 and 40.Owner of one of the farms, Ayodele Adigun, called on the Federal Government to intervene in the frequent Fulani herdsmen attack on the communities lying on the borderbetween Oyo and Osun states. He said unless urgent step was taken, the situation could degenerate into an ethnic clash.A supervisor at the farm, Olaonipekun Ogunkolade, explained that the attackers stormed the farm around 8pm in a commando style, wielding guns and other dangerous weapons.The supervisor said the attacker gathered the workers into groups and held them hostage while the operation lasted. He said they were thoroughly beaten and threatened with their weapons.The injured guard was later found in the pool of his own blood after a headcount showed that he was missing. Another worker, simply identified as Haruna Usman, said he escaped death after he was shot by one of the attackers as he was returning to the farm.Usman, who was coming from Jos in Plateau State, said, “The robber who chased me was speaking Fulani language to me. Later, he spoke Hausa, telling me to stop. He threatenedme that he would shoot me if I didn’t stop.”When The PUNCH visited the injured guard, Jimi Aido, at the Iwo Medical Centre, Iwo, Osun State, the senior medical officer on duty, Mrs. Adeola Adelabu, said that the healthcondition of the victim was stable.When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said he had yet to be briefed aboutthe attack and that he would get back to our correspondent. Policemen on patrol in the Lagun community said they could not commenton the attack.

No fewer than 12 offshore companies have been linked to the Group Chief Executive of Oando PLC, Mr. Wale Tinubu, who is also a nephew of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.The companies include: Sigma Technology Inc;Techventure Inc; Anglesey Management SA; Caine Trading Corp; Keligh Engineering Corp; Hud Trading Corps; Meridian Procurement International Services Ltd; Lynx Shipping Ltd; Equinox Shipping Ltd; Everglade Oil Inc; Framlingham Ltd and Triton Trading LtdThe latest revelation was contained in the leaked massive internal data belonging to Panamanian law firm, Mossack Fonseca which was obtained by German newspaper, Süddeutsche Zeitung.According to documents sighted by Nigerian online newspaper,Premium Times, the Oandoboss and his deputy, Omamofe Boyo, have been operating foreign accounts in notorious tax havens for over seven years.Tinubu, according to the documents, may have made huge returns from his shell companies that in 2008 as he agreed to pay a front as much as $20,000 monthly to manage all of hisoffshore transactions.Tinubu, documents show, secured the services of Mossack Fonseca to help him incorporate the companies in Seychelles, one of the fastest growing offshore jurisdictions in the world and notorious tax haven, the British Virgin Islands.The documents also reveal that Mossack Fonseca coordinated the operation through its offices in Geneva, the British Virgin Islandsand Panama.Investigation revealed that Tinubu is either sole director of most of the companies or has unlimited powers to make decisions.For Instance, files from the data revealed thaton November 26, 2009, after a meeting of the “board of directors” of one of his shell companies, Keligh Engineering Corp, Mr. Tinubu was granted a general power of attorney as the sole signatory of the company.The “board meeting” where this decision was made was attended by three nominee directors, – Yvette Rogers (Chairman), Jaqueline Alexander(secretary), Verna de Nelson, who are actually employees of MossackFonseca.Nominee directors are appointees used in offshore tax havens to hide true owners of shell companies.Rogers had also served as nominee director in Stanhope Investment Ltd, Seychelles, one of the shell companies used by the convicted former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, to embezzle funds.In May 2007, Just like Ibori, the Oando boss allegedly secured the services of Swiss asset management firm, Clamorgan SA, to help him incorporate Techventure Inc., Anglesey Management SA, Caine Trading Corp and Keligh Engineering in Seychelles while appointing Mossack Fonseca Geneva as registered agent and administrator for the shell companies.Curiously, Ibori had claimed during his trial in the United Kingdom that he held 30 per cent stakes in Oando, an allegation the firm has since denied.In a December 10, 2008 email to Marie-Ange (an employee of Mossack Fonseca in Geneva) Sebastien Clamorgan of ClamorganSA revealed that Tinubu hired a front, PatrickBastin, to act on his behalf in his offshore companies.According to the email, Bastin was rewarded for this role. He was paid a salary of $10,000 monthly and given a corporate visa card which allowed him to spend up to $10,000 monthly.Bastin was paid from Everglade Oil Inc’s account with a private bank in Beirut, Lebanon.Meanwhile,Premium Timesinvestigations showed that Seychelles is particularly an attractive offshore destination for several top Nigerian businessmen.Several shell companies owned by Nigerians in tax havens were incorporated in the small Indian Ocean country and registered as International Business CompaniesThe document revealed that Sayyu Dantata, the cousin of Africa’s wealthiest man, Aliko Dangote, is linked to seven IBCs while Adetokunbo Sijuwade, the son of the late Ooni of Ife, Okunade Sijuwade, is the director of Mandhari Water Investment Inc. and Izwelethu Aluminium and Steel Inc.Tinubu’s deputy, Boyo, was listed as a director in three IBCs- Everglade Oil Inc, Meridian Procurement International Services, and QVS Ltd.All attempts to get an official response from Oando Plc proved abortive as the Corporate Communications Manager of Oando, Alero Balogun, failed to respond to telephone calls as well as a text message.
