When u say eye conditions are not common u mean pathological ocular conditions....trust ne even those are common....very common....
Some conditions like retinoblastona are not common....glaucoma,uveitis,scleritis,different forms of optic disc anomalies,etc are commmon...but thats for ocular....
Visual is the milk machine...
Thats were,binocularity,refractive errors,accomodative-convergence issues belong.....
Anybody above 45 yrs must use a lens....even if its just a reading lens....
Not so for dentistry......
Check the newspaper,after clothing,the next most popular item is lenses.....


Whenever u see that remember this and be happy:AN OPTOMETRIST IS WRITING A LENS PRESCRIPTION SOMEWHERE

And pls dont say that people dont patronize private clinics....say that people dont patronize private DENTAL clinics....cause they sure as hell patronize eye clinics .

chei I prefer to be a dental surgeon. Dentist rocks die. I know some of them. I love the profession. It is a very nice profession and people patronise including smokers etc I know people belittle it but it is a very nice profession. Esp if u know how to do business. And again I don't know why u compare optometrists with opthalmologists. Because as for me I will prefer to be worked on by a dr than a road side health worker. Sincerwly dentistry is a very nice profession. Go and find out and stop belittling a profession u know nothing about. simply because u don't mind having a rotten teeth. I hope u don't have mouth odour sha. Sorry for asking anway. Beside must u have your own clinic. The work dentists do in places like luth is so much that I doubt if he will time for a private clinic. Dentist are surgeon while optometrist are not. They are doctors while optometrists are not. The are under the same council with med doc NMDC while optometrists are not. Optometrist don't perform surgery they only text vision. But anyway as for me I prfer the profession of dentistry so much than ur optometry. Maybe because i kove to perfirm the surgery. Infact u shldnt be comparing urselg with them. It is just like comparing pharmacy with dentistry. You shld be comparing urself with med rehab or med lab science or pharmacy. Do u know that cut off for the course at oau was 270. I doubt if you know what u are saying. Dentistry is the closest prof to medicine either u like it or not

Every profession has its own modus operandi.Optometry is not about entrance....its about graduation....A class starts with 250 students and ends with 60....u think say na beans...Being in optometry is like writing jamb every yr for 6 yrs...
Some of my classmates failed out from optometry school,went back wrote jamb and put in for dentistry cause they felt they couldnt make medicine...they did extremely well....ask them of their experience in optometry....

IF DENTISTRY IS LUCRATIVE LET UR BOARD TAKE MORE THAN 25 STUDENTS IN A CLASS AND LETS SEE WHETHER YOU GUYS WONT START SELLING PEPPER IN THE MARKET....

may be u don't know that in Nigeria people don't visit anything private. Either private school, clinic or whatever. They prefer to go to a public hospital instead. You may be surprised that if u open an eye clinic no body may show face in week for some reasons 1) eye problem is not common 2) it can be self treated using eyedrop etc 3) People will prefer to see medical doc In a gov hospital. The most common reason is the number 2. although I'm not a dental student but I will tell you dentistry has upper hand over optometry esp due to large queue that is always recorded in some gen hosp dental unit like luth. You have to wait for other people surgery to finish before your turn. As result u av no choice to branch into a dental clinic next to u. Dental clincs are not that common. If not I don't mind visiting one regularly to have a snow teeth. My wives teeth must also be white o. Most people will love to visit any dental clinic close to them. But unfortunately they are very few and far. Hence the lose of interest.

Optometrists have a laissez faire attitude to professional politics because they have this ingrained belief that the profession is a private sector playmaker.(I personally dont agree with that position anyway...)

Anybody can open a clinic,but not anyone can run a clinic...Maybe an orange seller can run a dental clinic....but only an optometrist or ophthalmologist can run an eye clinic...Only a pharmacist can run a pharmacy.....

Infact people do not need to plan before coming to your clinic as anybody can branch into any dental shop on sighting your clinc to whitening or brace or remove mouth odor. And again what are u saying? I have friends studying pharmacy and I want to tell u the anatomy they do is very diff from that of dental and medical students. don't u know that dental students and medical students offers virtually the same course in the university until part 5. It is obvious u don't know what you are saying. You optometric are not important in anyway, an opthalmologist who is a medical doctor can do your job. Even an optician is better than you guys. You will never hear of Nigeria medical and optometry council but instead Nigeria medical and dental council. Optometry is under faculty of science, dentistry is an health science course. Oau Ui and many uni don't offer your course when we already have qualified opthalmologist. Don't say dentistry is not highly patronise go to any general hospital or luth and visit their dental section and see the huge queue. How do you know people don't visit a dentist. Will someone who visited a dentist tell you he just visited one. Although I'm not a dental student but I must tell you dentistry is far better to optometry in all ramnification. If you. have highiq. and you own a dental clinic, with the help of God you can make your dental clinc so popular that many guys esp in this fashion days wld av visited your clinic at least once to brace etc. No be only celebrity dey visit dental clinic. Advertise on tv radio and many media and tell them what u can. do. I assure u a lot of ladies and guys wld be interested. And you wld av huge crowd per week.

Do optometrists learn anatomy, biochemistry and physiology in details? Do they learn Pathology and Pharmacology? Did they read medicine and surgery? MBBS - this is the degree awarded to medicine and surgery students, is their Doctor there? so according to your wrapped thinking, they are not doctors?

The few dental clinics i know in benin even team up with optometrists to make it multidisciplibary and thereby attract more patients....

you need to be patient. dont compare optometry with opthalmology or optician.Those ones are ur boss.Tell me how can an individual visit an eye clinic when we have gov hospital and eye drops. And again stop saying what u don't know a lot of people do visit a priv dental. clinic each day due to the large queue in govern hospitals. I am sure out of 20 millon; lagosians about 50 k will visit dentist in a month. And there is no way you could see such even with micro scopic view. You say ppl don't visit dentist but you as a dentist can stand out. By public enlightment and thorough adverts in universities,sec sch, companies churches and even in the media to make you clinic very popular. I am sure 1 out of ten nigerian has a mouth odour and almost every people has a yellow and horrible dentition And I assure you u will be seeing nothing less than 150 people out of the million of people in ur state per day. And again dentistry is not only focus on the teeth we have other complex issues in it.. come to oau dental hos and see people with chronic dental issue like swollen tongue etc

Optometry is a money spinner in nigeria....
As dull as Benin city is there are eye clinics that average 400 -500k per day.
One can bear or manage a teeth problem but u cant manage an eye problem.
A verilux px can cost as much as 50k depending on the place.
90% of every old person visit eye clinic....
Whole families use lenses,contact lenses,etc
Only glaucoma screening can net u an average of 500k a week in Benin city if u hv a handheld tonometer...
Add visual field analyser and u start to see the pic....
Even clinics without adequate equipment,whose sole sustenance is refraction in Benin city can average 120 to 200k a week.
I use Benin as example because Benin is regarded as a being in the lower bracket margin when it comes to lucrativeness.
There is no dental clinic as big as Unique eye care in Nigeria which has branches in Europe.
Talk of those that deal in in importation of lenses and contact lenses.....
The optometrist makes money both from proceedures and product sales...
One contact lens work can cost 20 to 30k depending on practice.
Low vision rehabilitation can cost as much as 70 to 150k per px.

If you are good in business eg distributing pamphlets with the name of ur clinic embedded to different people like students, civil servants etc people in market and open places. Advertisting on posters, radio and so on. I assure people will fill ur clinic up. because almost everyone will prefer a better dentition as individuals, couples and others. But not anyone need to see an eye doctor, an eyedrop will work that out. And each dental operations are very costly imaging you having 5-20 people per day that cld be about 30-100 k per day
