if u know how, as an efficient investor, 50% is guaranted. So what's it's big deal in offering a return of 37% pa risk free.Beside, is stocks and share the only investment outlets that gurantee safefety and high return?
I can see you know nothing about investing in stocks. Stock investement is guaranteed? You better not let Ndidi hear you say that in public. Even the best investors in the world know that it is not guaranteed. If you don't know what you are talking about, stop misleading people, just because you want them to invest in your 37% fixed deposit.

even the stock market alone can provide return in excess of 50% over 3 months. So why do you think a deposit for a minimum of 3 months can't yield a return of 37%pa? is that you lack simple investment procedures.

This is real and not wonder bank.We deal in financial services: stocks, microfinance and pension.
The difference is that the 50% on the stock market is NOT GUARANTEED.  You can make 50% and you can lose 50%!.  You are guaranteeing 37%, where u wan put the money, for your backyard? Your own pass wonder bank, u be wonderful bank.

Hi, in respect of the Starcommes private placement, anyone interested in this offer should contact me before friday, May 2nd at N13 per share, minimum of 420,000 units. This Starcomm placement is one of the best PPs no one can afford to miss. It's a mega hit placement and the price at N13 is a sweet buy. They are still planning for an IPO in the next 3 0r 4 months which may come out at N30. The forms are not available anywhere except to invited investors. Contact me through my cell phone - 08062155921.
where did you get this price from?  You be Director for Starcomms?  People need to shine their eyes, this desperation to participate in PPs will lead to plenty of tears down the road

NBC definitely beat expectations. From N1.68B Q-3 to N3.17B Q-4.  It doesn't get any better. NBC made N1.7B in Q-2 so technically, it recorded a loss of around N0.02B in Q-3 and now this mega profit. This is a turnaround within a turnaround.
Pumping, I think you have it mixed up o, the N1.68B was for Q2, not Q3, check your numbers again.

Just looking at my spreadsheet now, and i don't have results for Q3, did they release one?

But SEC should also be penalised!!! They cleared the offer document. Do they just rubber stamp? If cadbury did not make the anouncement itself, what would SEC have done??

BTW, those fines are damn ridiculous!!!!
Yes the fines were ridiculous, but I do not see how the SEC is culpable for clearing the offer document.  Except they send their own team of accountants to go through the books of every company that submits an offer application for clearance, they have to rely on the work that the issuing house/accountants have done.  The SEC's approval is based on documents before it and if on the face of it, those documents and the numbers contained therein look ok, then I cannot hold the SEC culpable.

Fellow Nairalanders; Silent Reader here; I see you're all still busy!

I logged in just now, after several weeks (work pressure, just couldn't catch up with the rise and rise in page numbers), and this thingy says I've been logged in for 2 days, 8 hours, blah, blah.

Anyway, that's not why I logged in. Just thought I should point out something I only just noticed, thanks to using Bloomberg's portfolio tracker. I bought 200 units of GTB's GDR during their offer, and since neither NigerianSecurities nor InvestorDelight can track foreign-quoted equities, I "translated" my holding into GTB stocks and included it in my portfolios on those two sites (plenty gbosas to the guys behind them, by the way). IWasn't the best solution, but I had none other, or so I thought. The process was simple: converted the unit cost of a GDR to Naira at the exchange rate used by the bank, divided it by 50 (50 shares to one GDR), and used that as unit cost for each local GTB share. Much later on, I decided to build another portfoio on Bloomberg, everybody's senior when it comes to financial info on the web. I was startled this morning when I noticed the difference in appreciation between local and GDR: 34.74% on NSE, 59.82% LSE!!! Is this for real? How can we explain such a huge difference in movement between GDRs and their underlying stocks? Barring any mistakes in entering the data on the different trackers (I don't think) it must be for real.

If it's for real, I have a hunch it must have been raised on this forum before (too many eagle eyed ones here - Easimoni, I'm not referring to that cartoon of you o; don't mind them o jare  smiley  wink ). But just in case, I'm mentioning it, as I recall many people expressed views against GDRs here since the GTB one was stuck in a rut for a looooong time; but in this case, GDR's doing muuuuuuuch better.
Did you factor in the appreciation of the Naira against the Dollar?

Hi All,

I really appreciate your contributions towards educating people on Financial (Stock) world.

I gave a cheque of about N60,000 to my stock broker to buy equity assurance shares for me from the current market this was when it was still at N3.90k but he didn't do that until two/three weeks later when the price rose up to N5.28k. I have noticed that my stock brokers always buy higher than the price in the newspapers anytime I gave him money to buy stocks for me.

I just want to know if this is right or is he cheating me or something by buying at higher price
Next time, include a price limit when you make your order. i.e tell your broker not to buy at more than Bleep price.

Please what is your take on these Kajola Integrated Investment Ltd Private Placement and Resort Savings Private Placement?
This is my take on Kajola:

Company's forecast is way too aggressive.   They forecast PBT of N432 million in 2008, when in 2007 they made a grand N8.63 million operating profit before tax. They intend to use the money from the pp to start the following subsidiaries : Microfinance, Kajola Capital, Property Mgt, Venture Capital subsidiary e.t.c. The pp closes in March 2008, so they will not likely have access to the money at best till mid-March '08, which is 4 months to their financial year end. Don't see how the pp money will impact their FYE 2008 results significantly.

That being said, who knows what will happen when they list on the NSE with the way prices are skyrocketing these days. Don't expect them to list on the NSE soon though, or is there not a rule that a company must have at least 3 years of results before it can be listed?

Hope this helps

CAVEAT:  I am NOT BUYING into this PP

Obama is without doubt a first class orator, but as my people would say, no be words we go chop.  I am a black man and I would obviously like a black man to be president of the US someday, but something tells me Obama is not the right person for the job.  He reminds me of a general that sends out his troops to war with an uplifting speech but with no weapons and worse, no strategy.  People have mentioned that Bill Clinton had no experience before he was President, that is not entirely true. Yes he had no "presidential experience", but he had 11 year governorship experience plus two year as Attorney General of Arkansas.   To me, having executive experience is a lot better than being in the senate (federal or state)

Change has become a buzz word as if the word was coined yesterday.   He promises to unite the country, how is he going to do that?  He is too FAR LEFT to unite the country.  George Bush (who is too FAR RIGHT) promised to unite the country when he was campaigning in 2000 (his pledge was he was going to be the uniter) and we can all see how much unity he achieved.  It's difficult to unite people when you belong to the extreme end of the spectrum. He also intends to change Washington? We'll see about that.

Let's not even talk about his economic policies, all I can hear so far are tax hikes (Hilary included). He plans to increase capital gains tax to between 20-28% from the current 15%.  He plans to roll back the tax cuts for the "wealthy" (Hilary too), as if it was only the wealthy that benefitted from Bush tax cuts.  It's simple math, someone that makes a $1million and gets say a 1% tax break will most likely receive more tax refund than someone making $50,000 and gets a 10% tax roll back. Does that mean that only the rich guy benefitted from the tax cut?

I used to be(still am) a democrat supporter, but I am neither impressed with Obama nor Clinton.  The economy (putting more money in my pocket grin) is my major concern and the only thing both democratic candiates want to do is take it out angry

If Romney was in the race, he would have had my vote, even though he speaks as if he has 10 different mouths.  Mr John "My Friends" McCain cannot inspire even the most optimistic person in the world.

Back to NSE  grin  AkTopabelaGun, abeg what do the abelas say about OANDO and NASCON this morning?

I was about to buy the transcorp Shares, until i watched a TV interview with the DG  or Ed SOmething sha,of Transcorp trying to promote their shares. The Guy was just saying absolute nonsense, he could not give any sensible information, he kept flaunting the fact that he went to a Foreign university and Transcorp was a world Class Company, Callers called with Genuine Cornerns but rather than answer he went back to those two statements. When BAyo, the Presenter asked him a question on how he measured development he said development is measured by the Number of women willing to go and shop in shop rite instead of Going under the sun to the market. Then it struck me that this guy had absolutely no idea what he was doing there. Transcorp had no structure, no real office address and no real employees ( When Bayo asked him he could not give a coherent answer).
That Interview saved me my chicken change
I did not watch the interview, but if I was to guess, I would guess the guy was Mr. Nicholas "Big Mouth" Okoye, Transcorp's former ED of Ops, Strategy & Biz Dev

Stock usually refers to the company, e.g what stock do you want to buy tomorrow (Cadbury). Shares are the number of units of a stock you buy/sell. For example, how many shares of Cadbury will I buy tomorrow?

What exactly is the SEC rule for oversubscription?
Is that companies can absorb 25% of oversubscription or can absorb 25% over what they came to the market to raise?
The latter makes more sense as it is predictable and can be planned for in the prospectus.
The latter that makes more sense is the right one cheesy
