pumping777: HRC has come out worse in most of the debates simply because she speaks from both sides of her mouth trying to please everyone.
The only thing on record for HRC was a failure. Intiative or not, she could not pull it off. Why does everyone keep referring to it.
At the end of the day, you said Clinton's era was great. which Clinton? Mr. or Mrs? Why are they refusing to make public all the correspondence between Mr. & Mrs. during Mr. Clinton's presidency? We will soon find out that she had nothing to offer then and definitely not now.
Apologies for the digression my people. I remain loyal. Obama = Rock Star Clinton = No Need to Waste My Breath Romney = How many mouth the guy get sef? kunlef: Hi,
IBTC Equity funds tend to be the best performer among the Mutual Funds. However, at the current price of over 11000 naira, it may be a bit too high price to join. However there are some other new funds too. Oceanic Vintage Fund, FBN Heritage Fund, etc. But no one knows what their performance would be like yet. But it is always good to start early when it is still affordable, But generally, buying shares directly from the stock market will still outperform the mutual funds if you are not very unlucky.
Ciao Kunlef Why does the high price matter? If I have N11,000 and I buy 1 share of IBTC's mutual fund but 11,000 shares of another mutual fund priced at N1.00, am I better off? No. What matters is the return of the mutual funds. If IBTC retuns 100%, then my N11,000 has grown to N22,000; if the other fund returns 50%, then my N11,000 is just N16,500. @Poster, price does not matter, it is the performance of the fund that counts. The lower priced mutual funds give you an illusion that you are getting "more value" for your money. That is false, all you are getting is "more shares", which does not necessarily translate into "higher return" |

bjluv: CSCS was asked on the form and I was thinking it is better to have them all settled out since the beginning and not that I send the stuff to the CSCS account later or what do you tlhink?
You are better off using a CSCS account (that is if Skye/First Inalnd will actually credit your account and not still issue you a cerficicate even though you use a CSCS account)
I am still searching for one and May God almighty bring one my way. Would you recommend a reliable broker? I use Afrinvest: min is N500k i think, service is ok, online presence is average at best , but i am happy with them overall |

Can the gurus shed more light to this? thnx you do not need a CSCS account for IPO (You will be sent paper certificates ) Skye looks better to me |

Sweet T: Bush and congress has decided to give every tax payers $600 to boost the economy. I think we should have gotten more but it's better than nothing. I remember the one we got in 2001 actually helped the economy to boom. I think i will save mine till i decide on what to do with it. It's good to know that i actually got close to $4000 (The $600 plus my income tax return) back from IRS this year eventhough i paid a lot in taxes. We should have got atleast $1500 but damn the republicans. Freaking whores. Lucky you, not everyoone is getting though, those making above $75k (individuals) don't get anything. |

no_shaking: Who appoints both the Registrar and the Issuing House paddy paddy connection? Then let's talk about the pre-emptive collabo towards an engineered outcome amongst the major paddy paddy players in the PO process - from inception to completion. I tire o! Gotta go now! That still does not explain how underwriters clean mouth, except they receive their own certficates from the registrars before the genral public (and I do not see how this is possible without the general public being aware of this), then there is no cleaning of mouth as far as I am concerned. |

eniyanman: Thanks. I thought the N1.20 was an annual dividend. So I used 1.20/50. That dividend yield is very good. One might well move all one's savings there. The N1.20 dividend for UBA is annual and not quarterly, so that gives a yield of about 2.41%. To the best of my knowledge, only Dangote Sugar pays quarterly dividend |

no_shaking: Haba, on paper, yes! But na Nigeria! Literally, underwriting is like an insurance again undersubscription! But in Nigeria, it’s quite the assurance for oversubscription now. Lately, have you ever seen any undersubscribed PO/IPO no matter how woeful the company’s financials are since SEC introduced the 80% underwriting law, huh? . Even if Andy Best Electronic, University of Suya or Yakoyo Restaurant come to the market today, they would be hugely oversubscribed!
Trust the Nigeria big boys, they would always find a way round all this! No issuing house wants to take unnecessary risk this day risk/return analysis perspective thus the need for all these aggressive marketing ploy, cowboy tactics, hype game etc we see these days before the offer is made public. And when TS is lifted, the prices go to the roof reason – engineered scarcity and they would subsequently clean out fast fast before the ordinary public receive their share certificate and have the chance to reap from this engineered price appreciation.
BTW, do know the price of Int’l Breweries now on the floor, huh? You know what that means? Check out what happened to Dunlop post TS & post-allotment last year? Anyway, I rest my case! How can the underwriters clean mouth before the ordinary public receive share certificates, or do they get their own certificates before everyone else? The only way your theory will work is if they buy the stock on the secondaty market before/during the PO and not by buying into the PO itself |

whitelexi: @All:
I have stood here watching Transcorp slide the steep journey downwards and although it is still in very turbulent waters, i am seriously tempted to go in for a swoop. . . I have actually resisted the temptation for so many months now, irrespective of what my calculations have been giving me, and will say my broker has been the one reason why i havent bought it yet because he refuses to buy it even when i threaten to move my portfolio.
Is this a case of the right kind of risk? or is it a recipe for disaster? Except you want to CICO (cycle in-cycle out)/RORO (roll on-roll off)/GIGO TM (get in-get out) or know something that is not available in the public domain, I would suggest you leave Transcorp alone. I can compile an epistle of bad news that has been released about the company since it went public. Transcorp has 21 billion shares outstanding; if the company's situation should change tomorrow, there'll be plenty of shares to go around. |

@LondonCool You do not need to open individual accounts for each person. All you need to do is to negotiate the cheque into your account. This is done by the payee writing their name and signature on the reverse of the cheque (endorsement), and could add the wordings "for further credit to the account of , bigjay01", for instance (you could do that for your son/daughter too); . Third party cheques are allowed to be paid into personal current accounts (especially where the payee's all have the same surname). Most banks frown at the transaction because of the fraudulent opportunity it presents but there is no law that prevents a negotiable instrument from being negotiated to a third party account if it has been properly endorsed.
Most banks in naija will not allow it., except things have changed. |

easimoni: Quick math on Tantalizers' PP; post-PP shares will be 1,287M shares. If you assume PAT went up 50% in 2007, 07 FY PAT will be ~N200M, which yields a trailing EPS/PE of 16k/32.
