I recently gained employment in one of the Federal Government Agency, met this pretty lady in my unit we were compatible, most of our unit members knew there's connection between us.

Most female colleagues in our unit encouraged us to get married and if we agreed, one of us will make a transfer to another branch of the agency in the same town. The most frustrating thing about the issue is that I keep telling them that there's nothing going between us. Truth be told, not that I don't like her but my biggest fear was starting a relationship in the same unit and organisation...that made me to be nonchalant towards the whole thing.

Long story short, there's another guy from other unit in the same agency that was more serious than I. Each time the guy comes to visit her in my unit I get pissed off but i wasn't showing her...there was a time that I even made a girl pay me a visit at my place of work just to show off that i have a girlfriend but deep down within me it was she I want.

One elderly man in our unit keep reminding me about how disappointed he is regarding my not being serious towards her and now I have loss her, that she would have be my wife if I was serious.

Deep down within me i know i the fault was from me... I have so many bad traits which she doesn't like, she knows I like women a lot, the habit of drinking and coming to work at times and things I say at times were weird and rude.

The summary of the whole thing is, I have bad reputation in my unit. Nevertheless, I listen to her advice and have been really working on myself lately and she's noticing some changes. She's planning on getting married to the other guy next year.

I recently i called her that we needed to see but she told me that what's it that i cant tell in the office but I insisted so she invited me over to her house and we talked deeply...that was when she opened up to me that she's not interested in me that I should find someone that loves me and she even asked me about the girl i brought to our work then.

Please, i need your advice...should i continue or i should let the sleeping dog lie?

On Sunday, someone posted a thread on this forum that read, ‘Why did God send an evil spirit to torment Saul?’ the poster was particularly confused that God had evil spirits which He could send to torment people.

I understand how that can be confusing considering that God is presented as a good God who does not ‘deal’ with the kingdom of darkness or fraternise with demons. The Bible did say there is no relationship between light and darkness (2 Corinthians 6:14). I also understand how it could be perplexing that God sent an evil spirit on an ‘errand’ while portions of the Bible presents Him as a holy God whose Spirit is a Holy Spirit and His messenger-angels are upright flames of fire (Hebrews 1:7).

So, why did God send an evil spirit to torment Saul? Let’s begin with the tougher angle of that question; how can a God known to be holy, whose Spirit is the Holy Spirit; how can such a God use evil spirits or send evil spirits on errands? You see, there is a big difference between ‘used by God,’ and ‘coming from God.’ In other words, you don’t have to be my servant to serve my purpose or run errands for me. In fact, the fact that I can command you to do my bidding even though I’m not your master demonstrates my authority over you and your master.

It is one thing to be used by God; it is quite another thing to be from God. God did send an evil spirit to torment Saul- why? We will see why later on in this article. But yes, it was indeed a tormenting evil spirit and it was God who aimed that tormenting evil spirit at Saul. That tormenting spirit did not come from God but it will obey God and do God’s bidding, any day and any time. Do you remember the Bible’s historical account of the Manna and Quail? The Quails were birds- flesh and blood. God Himself said to Moses;

Exodus 16:4

Then the Lord said to Moses, "I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.”

God said He will make food- wafers and meat- rain down from the sky for the Israelites. But do you think there are birds- flesh and blood- in the heavens where God lives?

1 Corinthians 15:50

I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

Do you think there might be store houses and kitchens in heaven where bread and meat are prepared for angels? No, for angels are heavenly beings, not flesh and blood that they should eat the food of men. So you see, the food may have rained down from above but the food did not exactly come from ‘above.’ You say, so where did the birds come from?

Numbers 11:31-33

Now a wind went out from the Lord and drove quail in from the sea. It brought them down all around the camp to about three feet above the ground, as far as a day's walk in any direction. All that day and night and all the next day the people went out and gathered quail. No one gathered less than ten homers. Then they spread them out all around the camp.

You see that? The birds flew in because God sent them but it doesn’t mean that the birds were creatures of heaven. Jesus gave the word and the teeming fishes scattered in the waters congregated in one place (Luke 5:1-11). That same Jesus can send the birds of the air flying low among the tents of Israel. It doesn’t have to imply the birds fell straight from the courts of God.

Also, consider that God recruited Babylon to attack and punish Israel. Babylon was a pagan nation that neither feared God nor worshipped Him. God may have aimed Babylon at Israel but it never meant that Babylon belonged with or came from God (Ezekiel 21). The Bible is replete with many more illustrations to this truth, so as you can see, to be used by God does not automatically mean to originate from God. Now we come to the question; why did God do this to Saul? Why did God aim a tormenting evil spirit at Saul? You see, Saul broke God’s heart. It was God who anointed Saul to be king over Israel and to lead them in submission and obedience to the God of Israel. But Saul broke God’s heart.

1 Samuel 15:10-11

Then the word of the Lord came to Samuel: "I am grieved that I have made Saul king, because he has turned away from me and has not carried out my instructions." Samuel was troubled, and he cried out to the Lord all that night.

So God decided to replace Saul with someone else He found somewhere far away from the palace or the corridors of power. To man, it would be next to impossible to bring David to the palace, not to speak of replacing Saul with David. But God had a plan. Saul’s illness caused by the tormenting spirit was the reason David was invited to the palace.

1 Samuel 16:14-23

Now the Spirit of the Lord had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord tormented him.

Saul's attendants said to him, "See, an evil spirit from God is tormenting you. Let our lord command his servants here to search for someone who can play the harp. He will play when the evil spirit from God comes upon you, and you will feel better."

So Saul said to his attendants, "Find someone who plays well and bring him to me."

One of the servants answered, "I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the harp. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the Lord is with him." Then Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, "Send me your son David, who is with the sheep." So Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine and a young goat and sent them with his son David to Saul.

David came to Saul and entered his service. Saul liked him very much, and David became one of his armor-bearers. 2Then Saul sent word to Jesse, saying, "Allow David to remain in my service, for I am pleased with him."

You see that? God did not send the evil spirit just for the sake of punishing Saul; everything served a purpose higher than the evil spirit and higher than Saul. Now listen to this; if God wanted to get rid of your accusers, God may decide to punish you. Do you know why? Because it is your accusers who will throw the stones of punishment and by throwing those stones, the accusers condemn themselves, falling in the trap God set for them because it is only the one perfect and without sin that should ‘throw stones’ at others.

John 8:7

When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."

God can use anybody or anything to advance His agenda. In fact, God used satan to elevate Jesus to the highest place of honor. The Bible says that if satan knew what was going on, he wouldn’t have convinced men to crucify Jesus. Satan opened the gates of hell to admit Jesus Christ only for Jesus to turn around and snatch the keys of death from satan and free those who were satan’s prisoners. Trust in God at all times for He is infinite in wisdom.
