obajoey: Pls I had a GA interview yesterday, during the interview the director asked me "what is my schedule (study plan) for next year" I didn't get the question well, but I said something about the total semester hours for the program, but it seems that was not the right answer. So he said the GA will require 20hrs work/weekly and he said some students take 3credit hours, some 9, but I must say I really don't know how to answer that question.
I have checked the program brochure and all I could see is the total credit hours for the core course (s) and for the electives too.
Pls I need to know the best way to answer that question pls... I think they want to know if you’ve considered how much time the GA will take out of your time. Because your answer should be a number of hours you intend to study daily or weekly, after you’ve take out 20hrs/week for the GA and extra time for other things. Because the masters study plans I’ve seen online no be small thing, it doesn’t look like the it has an easy or direct answer oo I think oo, house please correct me if I’m wrong. |

Maxidom: My visa was approved on Tuesday in Lagos. My VO was a white guy. Please eat something before you go for your interview because you will be standing for a long while.
Profile: Fall admission Tulane University Full funding PhD Chemical Engineering
Here is my transcript:
Me: Good morning VO: Good morning VO: Pass me your passport as it is packed for you. Me: Ok sir VO: So, where are you going in the US? Me: I'm going for my PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Tulane University. VO: What University again? Me: Repeats it. VO: Are you married? Me: No VO: Do you have Kids? Me: No VO: What specialization in Chemical Engineering ME: Renewable energy VO: What University did you do your undergraduate studies? Me: I told him. VO: Why are you going for a PhD in this school? Me: My research interest has always been in renewable energy source and storage and I was able to find great professors who are currently carrying out research in the development of new materials for Renewable energy more than other universities that I applied to and got admitted to. I was also offered a full tuition waiver and a graduate teaching assistantship role that offers a stipend that covers my living cost. The student to professor ratio is very nice for a highly ranked research University so I get to interact with my professors more and get more guidance for my research.
VO: What will you be researching on? Me: I will be researching on new materials for batteries in Renewable Energy systems so as to be able to expand the durability and depth in discharge of renewable energy storage devices while ensuring a smooth integration of this stored renewable energy to the power grid for the use of populace.
VO: I can see that you have a full scholarship here Me- Yes, I do.
V.O:- Okay. I will be approving your visa. I will hold on your passport and you will pick it up with this in a few days time. He hands me a white paper. Me: Thank you. VO: You are welcome. Me: What am I to do with this white paper again? VO: it is for you to pickup your passport at your pre determined location. We will send you a mail when it is ready. It should be ready in a few days time. Me: Thank you.
He didn't ask me for any documents. congratulations, well deserved |

Congratulations I tap into your excess assistantship blessing. gbadeolu1: Hello guys. Got my visa approved today at the Abuja consulate. 2nd time attempt. Again, first to be interviewed.
Here's my my transcript:
VO: Good morning (I replied) VO: have you ever been to the US before? Me: No. Not to the US. VO: OK. How about any other country? Me: Yes. VO: Where? Me: China. (He didn't hear, and I had to repeat that) VO: for how long were you there? Me: 2 years (he said oh, cool) VO: what did you go for? Me: I went there for my Master's program. VO: Ok. *The conversation above took place under the first one minute or so, even before taking my biometrics*
VO: ok, please place your fingers for capturing. (I did) VO: pass me your passport and documents. (He perused my i20 and typed at length. At a point he nodded his head as though in agreement with something. That sent a relaxing feel across my mind. I was like, this man is getting convinced I'm worthy o. lol
VO: What's your highest qualification? Me: Master's degree VO: In what? Me: Mechanical Engineering. VO: what's your specific area in mechanical engineering during your MS? Me: Electrochemical Corrosion (At this point, I was uneasy because my PhD research will not be exactly in this area any longer, and I will have to explain why it so. I wasn't really happy at this point. Thanks I have my nose mask on, cos my smile went away momentarily. lol)
VO: Ok, I see you have assistantship. How much of your tuition does it cover? Me: My tuition is around 33k but my overall expenses is $52,741 and that's even below my assistantship. And I have about 4k in surplus. VO: Yeah, that's right. VO: Are you single or married? Me: I'm married. (He briefly glanced at my ring finger, it was empty. VO: So, will your family go with you to the US? Me: No they won't. (He waited for more explanation) I continued to say, "but I plan to pay scheduled visit to Nigeria at least once in an academic session". A beautiful expression came on his face when he heard "scheduled visit" I really could perceive it. And he continued to type at length.
VO: What does your wife do? Me: She's into sales of clothing materials, shoes and bags. VO: Ok. He puts my newest passport in a box beside him leaving the old one behind at his front. At this moment, I knew it's a YES! He handed me the white paper and said "It will take about a week before your visa will be ready and you will need that paper to claim it" Me: Oh, ok. VO: You can go. Me: Wow. Thank you very much. God bless you. VO: you're welcome.
I'm the happiest man today!!! |

wizzy2021: Do you think the one year option is better? I was actually thinking of 2 years because of the money involved. I already have the real industry experience as I have been working in that field for 7 years now. But the 2 years is also as a result of pushing everything to 4 years and hopefully pushing towards 10y year's Long stay for ILR. The 2 years post-study doesn’t count towards ILR. Just try and get work/ Tier 2 visa, or this new global talent visa. |

Goddys: You always think you know it all but you really don't. Banks owe customers fiduciary duty to protect their private details at all cost. The disclaimer you talked about has nothing to do with this legal relationship.
Stop claiming knowledgeable in area you know nothing about. I have worked in that sector before.
The questions from embassy to banks during verification is a "yes or no" question, and usually doesn't require banks to check present status of the customer's account. What kind of questions do they ask? Because the reality is that Many of us don’t have the funds needed and we build our accounts with the hope of getting a job to pay fees when we get there. |
