@pharoh

Now to why debate is WAY BETTER than the useless campaigning they have been doing.

There's nothing new with their various campaigning, there's nothing they're saying that we have not heard for the past 12 years.

Campaigning is always about "we will" we will

Debate is about "How will you?"

Debate is about "This is how i will"

DEBATE IS WHERE YOU SEE AND HEAR THOSE WITH SUPERIOR IDEAS, PLANS AND HOW IT'S GOING TO BE CARRIED OUT.

Debate separates mediocre, quacks and noisemakers from those who truly have an idea of what's on ground.

Hope you understand better now? a learned person should always advocate for a debate and not some silly lies of a campaign they waste money on.

One of our problems here in Nigeria is that we hardly read, and when we do, we read negative meanings into almost everything.

@Babaogun

Sorry o, but when did Dosunmu say all that? are you dosunmu or are you here to tell us what he wanted to say but didn't remember to say? the video clip is out there for everyone to see and i even watched it live, didn't hear him say all those stuffs on your list.

The only two things on record he provided answers to were the building of the 4th mainland bridge with the help of the federal government, he said since PDP is in charge in the federal level, they're going to help him build the bridge.

Secondly, he said he was going to have access to the federal government and thus be able to make them build infrastructures in Lagos rather than letting Lagos do it all alone.

From these 2 points he made, one can see that the PDP led federal government is deliberately punishing states that are not under the PDP, if you're not for PDP, you don't get any federal duties.

How can i trust such a cult of a party?

Pharoh:
What is wrong in reading from the book? people do cram a lot just to come and woo the audience. My brother it doesn't matter to me if he reads from a book or a teleprompter which most world leaders do. The goal for me is actual delivery of results and putting words into actions that would yield meaningful results. Like the poster said below, debates are over rated though it is good but not compulsory in my opinion as there are better substitutes for debates.

Debates would serve the western public well where there is high literacy level and most people understand the general language. How many nigerians has access to television, can speak english or is even literate enough to understand the whole stuffs they are debating on tv. The best way of campaigning and passing your message in soceities like nigeria is to use various mediums of engagement that are very effective. Interest groups, avertisements, party meetings, nationwide campaign or just name it. There are agents also working for you to communicate with the populace in their language and level of understanding. The number of people in the informal sectors is very much greater than the number of people in the formal sector so who are you targeting with your debate?.

How many market women, mechanic, carpenter or vulcanizer will watch the debate and make sense of it. How will you reach those people with a debate if not interest groups, meeting with the leaders who will in turn pass your message to the rank and file. Debate is necessary in some societies but definitely not Nigeria because the enlightened ones you want to reach with your debate are sophisticated enough to know where to get information about your programs. You guys are just trying to make a mountain out of nothing but seriously ask yourself what is the penetration level of these debates?, what segments and amount of the population can it reach. The purpose of debate is to get the electorate so there are other effective means to that simple. It is not compulsory so you guys should just drop it and vote for those you feel deserves your vote.
No, you're wrong again, a PHd holding president should be able to tell his followers how's going to do what he's promising them without having to read from the book, if you have an idea on how to solve a problem, you don't have to read it from the books ALL THE TIME, but for GEJ, he has never said anything on his own, if he has the idea, he should be able to say them without having to read all the ideas from the book, and sometimes he even miss up words he read and those behind him always end up correcting him. Thats not a sign of someone who truly knows what he's reading or planning to do.

Now to why debate is WAY BETTER than the useless campaigning they have been doing.

There's nothing new with their various campaigning, there's nothing they're saying that we have not heard for the past 12 years.

PoliticsRe: Who 'Won' The Lagos Governorship Debate On Channels TV? by honeric01(m): 10:33pm On Mar 04, 2011
As per houses costing 40-50milla, i don't think that figure is accurate, yes some of the house they built cost that much, but not in the places Dosunmu mentioned, Fashola must have deliberately ignored it because he didn't have the figures with him, but i am saying that i heard from the Lagos state commissioner of housing or is it Lagos state minister of housing, stating that houses in Ikorodu, Gbagada and some places in the mainland goes for N5milla-15milla for a 2 bedroom bungalow. So i am guessing these houses were built according to your class in the society.

Dosunmu must have deliberately picked the higher priced houses built for the elite just to make Lagos state and Fashola look like a state of the elite while deliberately ignoring the ones that went for 5milla for not so "okay" citizens of Lagos.

One more thing, down payment for any of these houses is 30%, after paying that, you're free to move in, then 25% monthly payment from your salary until you're able to complete payment.
PoliticsRe: Who 'Won' The Lagos Governorship Debate On Channels TV? by honeric01(m): 9:58pm On Mar 04, 2011
Time2Think:
Fashola couldnt answer a few questions from Dosunmu

1. about the roads costing 1billion Naira per kilometer

2. the houses that sells way over 40m - 50m Naira

3. the un employment register he promised to create in 2007 - he claimed its on their website - not sure if it ever was.

4. why dont they publish the costs of their projects for others to see.

5. housing for the populace.

and a few others.
Did you actually watch the debate? if you did, did you mute your TV when Fashola was answering all these questions? undecided undecided undecided undecided

Yes he is a public speaker and he has done that in various capacities, conferences and even rallies if you want to factor this election campaigning so there is not doubt about that.  He simply is not interested so why can't you guys get it, listen to the ones who wants to debate and choose who to vote for. Those that will vote for goodluck already know how and when he has communicated his plans to them. It is not by force to debate or what exactly is the issue here. What is the fuse about this debate or did MKO had a debate before the presidential election in 1993? same for shagari and the first republic elections. What is the benefit of a debate that cannot be served by other means, he has communicated with Nigerians on facebook, through his campaign and he thinks that is enough.

Being a Phd holder does not translate to a competent public speaker, you must have gone through the presentations of many lecturers and i doubt if they all performed equally. Being a good public debater does not translate to a better administrator or manager. It is one thing to perform very well at the debate and another thing to perform well when you are actually given the job to do. You guys are just trying to make a mountain out of nothing and i doubt any one of you would even manage a local government if given the job. A good strategist picks the battle he has the highest comparative advantage of winning and he is not driven by impulse or popular opinions.
Have you actually watched any of the campaign PDP? he reads everything from the book and even gets expo from others standing besides him, hardly talks from his head.

Thumbs up for Goodluck in avoiding this debate as it is pointless and serves no useful purpose judging from the situation on ground. Debate has never translated to actual actions, it is just an avenue to boast about what you cannot do. There are several platforms to reach out to Nigerians and the Goodluck is free to choose what he likes, it is not by force to come for a debate. The others can go ahead with the debate if that is really what they want. There are better options that can be used to communicate your programs and manifesto to the voters which is the ultimate goal and not this pointless debate.

Lebany:
Exasperated Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) governorship candidate in the state, Mohammed Dele Belgore (SAN), described the alleged demolition of his billboards by suspected PDP thugs as barbaric, politically motivated extremist and provocative.

He said such acts were meant to intimidate Kwarans who  want a clean break from the past years of alleged misrule, suppression and corruption, but made it clear that no amount approach intimidation could not hold back the drive for liberation his party is championing in the state.

The barbarism and political extremism going on in Kwara State is at the instance of the ruling PDP and the state government. This barbarism is underscored by the recent violent actions of the thugs loyal to the party, some carrying out their heinous actions right under the protection of the state government,” Rafiu Ajakaye, media aide to Belgore, said in a statement issued in Ilorin, the state capital.

He added: “The latest,  was the wanton destruction of all the billboards belonging to the opposition in the state capital. To underscore their barbaric acts and where they are coming from, these thugs destroyed everything and left only billboards belonging to the PDP governorship candidate, AbdulFatah Ahmed.

“The message the PDP and state government are sending to the people of Kwara is that the April poll won’t be free and fair; that the people will be prevented from exercising their constitutional right to elect their leader, and that violence will be unleashed on them if bribery and intimidation fail to quench their thirst for change. They have told anybody that the election will be a do-or-die affair. Politics, for us, is about improving the lives of the people. Belgore has made clear to his supporters that any of them caught unleashing violence on the people or doing anything illegal would be handed over to security agents. We have reported this action to all the appropriate security agencies, and we urge the provoked people of Kwara to remain calm and not take the law into their own hands.

“All the billboards in Ilorin belonging to Belgore and other opposition candidates were either defaced or uprooted by thugs being sponsored by the PDP-led state government. On Emir Road near the Belgore family house, the thugs arrived at around 12.30a.m in a convoy of eight vehicles containing arms and ammunition, shooting sporadically into the air to scare away any potential challenger of their barbarism while tearing the billboards, thus unleashing terror on the hapless people living in the area.

“These actions were repeated almost in all the key areas across the state capital, including Unity, Airport and Iyana Afon Junctions, and at the Gairi Alimi Round About, where they destroyed our billboards despite the fact that the sites were duly registered and paid for through the Kwara State Advertising and Signage Agency (KWASA). These barbaric actions only go to show that the state government and its agent provocateurs have no respect for law and order.”

But PDP specifically, accused a top ACPN stalwart in the state of being in possession of firearms.

The party accordingly urged the security agents in the state to investigate the alleged discovery of the firearms.

In a swift reaction, ACPN spokesperson, Alhaji Abdullahi Ogannija, refuted the allegation, saying no security agent visited the Senator’s house on Tuesday night.

He therefore ,urged ACPN supporters to eschew violence before, during and after the election.

PDP spokesperson, Alhaji Isiaka Danmairomo said: “Our attention has been drawn to the false alarm raised by the ACPN on the alleged violent attacks on its members and the recent destruction of billboards in some parts of Ilorin, the state capital.

“This is the second time that the party (ACPN), has done this to unleash terror on innocent citizens and yet its members would raise false alarm perhaps as a strategy to deceive unsuspecting members of the general public. Many vehicles and commercial buses carrying our members who were returning from the Presidential Campaign rally  were not only vandalized but the occupants who are our supporters were attacked with dangerous weapons and injured, many of them are still lying critically in the hospital.

“What prompted  violence by  ACPN was the large turn-out of people at the PDP rally held at the Metropolitan Square, Ilorin which in turn frightened its members who became jittery with the turn of event at the rally. However, the PDP as a responsible party would not join issues with any political party whatsoever owing to the belief that our party symbolises peace, progress and development.

“The chairman of ACPN in the state, Alhaji Abubakar Zubair can testify to this because he was once the chairman of the state chapter of the PDP and he knew what the party stood for. Violence is alien to the PDP and its leaders and so, no stone will be left unturned to eschew thuggery because PDP is a disciplined party. The allegation of violence against it by ACPN is false and it is a calculated attempt to paint the party red.”

Both CPC and ACPN described the PDP’s denial of culpability in the alleged attacks on their members by the party’s thugs in parts of the metropolis as baseless.

In a statement, ACPN General Secretary, Abdul ganiyu Saka said: “We wish to call on the police and other law-enforcement agencies for the umpteenth time to spread their dragnets to the state capital and neighbouring villages to fish out and bring to book all the perpetrators and sponsors of the heinous crime.

“This is the only way by which our dear state can continue to enjoy peace and tranquility.

The ACPN and thousands of other law-abiding citizens, including members of other political parties in the state,                                       woke up to discover that billboards of all political parties other than those of the PDP in the state had been destroyed by the PDP thugs.

“Perhaps, it is worth mentioning that the PDP thugs stormed the political office of Dr Olusola Saraki at Olorunsogo area where they destroyed billboards and vandalised the office. Is it possible for ACPN members to vandalise the political office of our revered leader?  In continuation of their act of violence the same day, a group of PDP armed thugs stormed the premises of our leader, the Waziri of Ilorin on Ilofa road and attacked our law-abiding members.”

Corroborating his colleague, spokesperson of the CPC in the state, Alashi Obasanjo said it was obvious that PDP thugs were  behind the destruction of other billboards and posters on the said date.

According to Obasanjo, “Billboards of the CPC, ACPN, ACN and ANPP have been utterly destroyed in areas such as airport road, Adeta Roundabout, Asa Dam Junction, Unity Road and Gambari Junction.

Now what are the SSS waiting for? they should go and arrest all the PDP supporters in Kwara for defacing and vandalizing the billboards of the opposition parties in Kwara  or aren't these pdp thugs under the same law that was used in carting away sheikh Abu? undecided undecided undecided

Minna Campaign Summary
by Buhari4change (Official Fan Page) on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 3:50am

--Buhari connecting with people without saying a word--
It’s 11:43pm – over sixteen (16) hours since we set out for Minna from Kaduna. More men than yesterday, more excitement, infinitely more raucous. Yet, as darkness falls around us and we quietly make our way to our rest stop for the night, one nagging image breaks through – not of Gen. Buhari connecting with pockets of people without saying a word, not the men that climbed on our vehicles and clung to them for miles, not the rallying calls and beating of drums in celebration.

I recall a young man from this afternoon sprawled on the boot of a moving vehicle, apparently strung out on a cocktail of drugs – face up, eyes closed, walking the tight-rope between consciousness and disorientation for miles. The image continues to rattle me. I wonder if there’s any justification for the millions of brains and dreams Nigeria routinely squanders every day, and how many millions will be enough. I wonder why it’s acceptable that legions of young children are groomed to be the finest beggars; that someone, somewhere allows the holes in the roofs of our public schools and allows the potential of our most precious citizens leak through them.

After all is said and done, and Nigeria is rescued from the clutches of wanton and reckless men and women, how do we begin the staggering task of re-connecting the millions of Nigerians who’ve lost their way? 20-year olds who can’t read or write in 2011. 18-year olds who can’t multiply 4 and 5. 7-year olds who sleep on thin strips of cardboard under the open sky exhausted from selling carrots.

These Nigerians don’t have another 4 years to donate to the occasional stroke of luck. Their most pressing need isn’t fresh air. And anyone anywhere who offers them luck and air mocks them. Remember this – and them – when you’re swayed by crowds and promises over the next few weeks. Remember to stop letting them down.
