Siasia worried by blunt strike force Heartland coach Samson Siasia goes into Sunday's CAF Champions League showdown against Ismaily with concerns about his misfiring strike force. Last year's finalists played out a 1-1 draw against Al Ahly in their opening game, and then lost to JS Kabylie in their second. On both occasions, they were guilty of creating, then passing up some choice opportunities in front of goal, and Siasia has been left to rue their lack of a cutting edge. "The biggest problem we have had is finishing," he told. "We create a lot of chances, and then we fail to take it. "We have spent time working on it and we hope they can do better in Algeria because we need to win. We have no choice. But if you don’t score goals, you can’t win games." To get goals, Heartland have added strikers Chibuzor Ozurumba, Emma Nwachi and Ghanaian Isaac Oduro. Siasia, who is expected to be named Nigeria coach in the coming days, is under no illusions as to what awaits Heartland in Algeria. "They will be desperate to win because they are playing at home and they have lost their two games. "But we also need to win to put ourselves back in contention and we expect a very difficult game on Sunday." Group leaders JSK are home to Al Ahly, but the tie has already been marred by Egypt/Algeria fan violence, with the Egyptian team's bus met by a hail of stones in Algeria. At least one player is reported to have been injured in the incident. |
Al Ahly fall in CAF Champs League Former African champions, JS Kabylie registered a 1-0 victory over Egypt's Al Ahly in their Group B CAF Champions League clash on Sunday in Tizi Ouzou. Defender Mohamed Khoutir-Ziti scored the match winner on 24 minutes as JSK maintained their hundred percent run in the competition with a place at the last four in sight. Ahly, who needed to avoid defeat to boost their chances were sluggish from the onset allowing the hosts to dominate possession. It therefore came as no surprise when Khoutir-Ziti capitalised on a defensive lapse on the part of the six-time winners' backline to slot home, what turned out to be the match winner. Ahly came into the picture during the latter stages of the game with the introduction of Mohamed Shawky, but it was little late to aid their quest for the equalizer. It was Ahly's first defeat at the mini-league stage and their third overall this term, and also their first to Algerian side since 1988. JSK remains at the summit of Group B on nine points, Ahly have four points. Egyptian giants Ismaily earned their first three points in the group yesterday thanks to a lone goal by Nigerian import Godwin Ndubuisi over Heartland FC of Nigeria who remain without a point. After defeats in the opening Group B games, Ismaily needed nothing short of victory to boost their chances and Ndubuisi, one of the famous faces in the history of the premier continental club competition in recent times proved their savior. The former Al-Hilal forward netted the match winner on the quarter-hour mark to inspire the “samba Boys” to a famous victory. Both teams had their fair share of the exchanges; however it failed to have an impact on the scoreline. In Group A, after having won its first matches, Esperance of Tunis stumbled in Lubumbashi against the title holder, TP Mazembe. Esperance had taken the lead at the 41st minute thanks to their Nigerian attacker, Michael Eneramo. However, three minutes later, the Carbonites that were playing without Trésor Mputu, Guy Lusadisu and Joël Kimwaki, equalized through Alain Kaluyitukadioko. They would have to wait till the end of the match for Ngandu Kasangu to score the winning goal at the 87th minute. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe's Dynamos got a slim victory against Entente of Setif in Harare at the weekend. Dynamos midfielder, Wonder Sithole scored the lone goal of the Group A game after thirty minutes of play in Rufaro. |
