ABAKALIKI—THE All Progressive Grand Alliance,
APGA yesterday declared that the party lacked the
constitutional capacity to field candidate for the
forthcoming 2013 governorship election in
Anambra State.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary,
Mr. Bernard Akoma, the party insisted that any
candidate fielded during the election would be
disqualified if his or her candidature was
challenged by the opposition in any court of law.
According to him, the APGA led by Chief Maxi
Okwu has already dragged Chief Victor Umeh,
Alhaji Sani Shinkafi and Independent National
Electoral Commission, INEC, to a Federal High
Court in Abuja challenging their eligibility to
present a candidate for APGA in the Anambra poll.
His words: “Despite the emergence of Dr. Obiano
as the Victor Umeh/Peter Obi-led APGA candidate
in the forthcoming governorship election in
Anambra State, the party may after all contest
the governorship race in the state.
“The sharp division in the party notwithstanding
should Umeh-led APGA faction goes ahead to
endorse any candidate for the election, such
candidate stands to be disqualified if his
candidature is challenged
in any court of law.
“APGA constitution states that a person is
entitled to occupy any position in the party for a
maximum of two tenures of four years each.
“The current national secretary of APGA, Alhaji
Sani Shinkafi, was elected the Secretary of the
party January 10, 2003. By August 2013, Shinkafi
will be spending his 10th year and seven months
in the same position as the secretary of the party.
“This is over two clear years above his statutory
right to such office in the party. Should the same
Shinkafi and Umeh who was also not properly
elected to the office of the national chairman
according to the constitution of the party forward
any candidate’s name to INEC for recognition, it
will amount to building a house on sand dome.”
“This is because anything that is erected on
illegality can hardly stand the test of time. For
instance, President Olusegun Obasanjo cannot
endorse document on behalf of the Nigeria
government after
exhausting his tenure stipulated by law.
“Should Umeh/Obi APGA continue to play ostrich,
they may just be wetting the ground for the
aggrieved members of the party as well as its
opponents who are just waiting to sue the ass
out the life of the party. Already the All
Progressives Grand Alliance led by Chief Maxi
Okwu has dragged Chief Victor Umeh, Alhaji Sani
Shinkafi and Independent National Electoral
Commission, INEC to a Federal High Court in
Abuja challenging their eligibility to present
candidate for APGA in the Anambra poll.
“In suit no: FHC/ABJ/CS/563/2013 dated 18th
August, 2013 filed by Oba Maduabuchi, lawyer to
Maxi Okwu and four others elected with him in the
party’s national convention on 8th April, 2013 in
Awka, the plaintiffs averred that the APGA
convention and election on 10th February 2011, in
Awka in which Umeh was re-elected National
Chairman and Shinkafi National Secretary
including other members of the National Working
Committee was by voice vote contrary to Article
18(4) of the party constitution that stipulates
elections shall be by secret ballots only.
“The plaintiffs also asked the court to determine,
“Whether the 2nd defendant (Shinkafi) can still
validly occupy the position of National Secretary
of APGA in 2013 when the constitution of the
party providesa maximum tenure of eight years
and he was first elected as National Secretary of
the party on 10th January 2013, ten years ago.
“The plaintiffs prayed the court for an order
directing Umeh, Shinkafi and all the officers
purportedly elected with them in February 2011
national convention by voice vote to vacate their
various offices as
their “election” was not in accordance with Article
18(4) of the APGA constitution which prescribes
that elections shall be by secret ballot”.

Ngige garnered 63,255 votes to defeat Godwin
Ezeemo, who polled 9,564 votes.
A Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial
District, Chris Ngige, has emerged the flag bearer of
the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the
governorship election in Anambra, scheduled for
November 16.

Election in direct primaries in 21 local governments
of the State - New Agency of Nigeria.
Mr. Ngige garnered 63,255 votes to defeat Godwin
Ezeemo, who polled 9,564 votes in the primaries
conducted in the 326 electoral wards in the state.
Announcing the result, the former governor of Kano
State, Ibrahim Shekarau, who was the chief
returning officer of the election, expressed
happiness over the peaceful conduct of the polls.
Mr. Shekarau said that the party chose the Option
A4 method as provided for in the constitution of the
party.
“Because the party has the right to choose what
method of election to adopt in choosing its
candidate, it went forward to choose Option A4 for
the election, this is to ensure transparency,” he
said.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Ngige commended
the Electoral Committee and the leadership of the
party for enshrining internal democracy in the
process that elected him.
“What has happened today has shown that we
have started our journey to the Awka Government
House. APC has taken its root in Anambra. The
journey is a very important one and we have to
cross the red sea.
“My 63, 255 votes plus 9564 votes are the number
of foot soldiers other party members would have to
contend with in the forthcoming election. I extend
my hand of fellowship to all of you, even those who
did not vote for me. I want to thank you all,
especially Sen. Annie Okonkwo for his support and
Mr. Godwin Ezeemo for insisting that the ballot
must be cast because he insisted on a primary
election,” Mr. Ngige said.
In his reaction, Mr. Ezeemo commended Mr. Ngige
for his victory, expressing satisfaction with the
process.
He said that it was only fair that a primary election
to take place in a contest where there were two
aspirants.
Those who graced the occasion include the
National Organising Secretary of the party, Osita
Izunaso; former Abuja Minister, Nasir El-Rufai;
Nyerere Anyim; and Romanus Egbuladike.

Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River
State has been flown back to the
United States for urgent medical
treatment. SaharaReporters had
disclosed earlier that Mr. Imoke, who is
serving his second term as governor,
was in the US for medical treatment
related to kidney disease.
Two sources confirmed the governor’s
medical trip to our correspondent. One
source, a major political figure in
Calabar, the capital of Cross River
State, told SaharaReporters that
Governor Imoke left Nigeria two days
ago to continue treatment in the US.
Another source indicated that
Governor Imoke would receive
treatment in the Maryland area, near
Washington, DC.
One of our sources disclosed that the
governor’s health had taken a bad
turn recently, necessitating his urgent
trip abroad.
Mr. Imoke had earlier spent several
weeks in the US where he received
dialysis as well as a surgical procedure
for his severe renal condition.
On his return to Nigeria, Governor
Imoke had told associates that he had
bounced back to health. He and his
family as well as political associates
recently organized an elaborate
thanksgiving party to celebrate
Governor Imoke’s recovery. Among
those at the thanksgiving were
controversial Bishop David Oyedepo of
Winner’s Chapel and Governor
Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom.
However, our source revealed that Mr.
Imoke’s condition deteriorated recently,
leading to plans to move him back to
the US for further treatment.
Before becoming a governor, Mr. Imoke
had headed a presidential task force
under President Olusegun Obasanjo
that was supposed to guarantee
Nigerians dependable electric power
supply. Despite the failure of that task
force, President Obasanjo subsequently
appointed Mr. Imoke as Nigeria’s Power
Minister. As Obasanjo’s tenure drew to
a close, he handpicked Mr. Imoke to
become the governor of Cross River
State.
Our source in Calabar said he was
unable to say how long the governor
would stay in the US. “I think he will
be [in the US] for some time because it
will take a while for the doctors there
to address his health problems,” said
the source.

Dokubo on Monday warned the
Movement for the
Emancipation of the Niger Delta
(MEND) not to precipitate
religious war in Nigeria by
attacking Mosques saying any
religious crisis in Nigeria will
have ‘far reaching
consequences’.
Speaking with state house
correspondents at the presidential
Villa, Mr Dokubo also told members
of the Boko Haram sect to stop
playing to the gallery because they
cannot win the war they are
waging against the people in the
northern part of the country.
He said, “I am a Muslim I do not
subscribe to attacking religious
centres of worship, I do not believe
that MEND exist, I have always
said that there is nothing like
MEND. MEND is just the figment of
the imagination of people, it’s on the
Internet, newspapers, but who is
MEND, nobody can really tell you.
“MEND was formed, only for name
for the purpose of my release and
the release of Alamesaigha when
we were in detention. MEND
leaders are not known anywhere
like other organizations like the
Ijaw Youth Council, OPC and so on.
MEND actually is faceless, because
Henry Okah himself has denied
that he is not the leader of MEND
in court under oath.
“I want to say that there is no
religious war in Nigeria and nobody
should try to throw Nigeria into
religious crisis that will have far
reaching consequences. For instance
in Yoruba land, how are you going
to fight? In some families the
family is divided, the mother is a
Christian, the father is a Muslim,
the children are divided, there are
pastors, there are missioners of
Islamic organizations.
“Even in my family, of my fathers
children, I am the only Muslim and
my eighteen children are also
Muslims, so how are we going to
fight and kill each other. I don’t
think it will be possible and I don’t
think anybody should be foolhardy
in introducing that agenda into the
crisis we already have” he said.
On the attack that led to the death
of twelve policemen in Bayelsa
state, Mr Dokubo said
investigations show that those who
carried out the attack were
disgruntled former fighters whose
leaders allegedly refused to pay
their monthly stipend.
“The unfortunate incidence that
happened in the Bayelsa ,if you dig
deep into it, many people were paid
money through this amnesty and
instead of paying their followers
they pocketed much of the money
for themselves and these followers
were angry that the N65,000
stipend that was supposed to go to
them did not get to them. And
according to the allegation when
one of the leaders was going for his
mother’s burial, they had the
opportunity to attack because they
had problems with the engine of
the boat and the Police were
stranded and were attacked and I
don’t think it is MEND, I think it is
an internal disagreement and some
of the perpetrators have been
arrested. I am very concerned
about it, our struggle was a moral
struggle and anybody who
introduces any other element into
that struggle is not part of us” he
said.
On the proposed amnesty for
members of the Boko Haram, Asari
Dokubo said the issue of Amnesty
for people who have not been
convicted as done to the Niger Delta
militants was faulty.
“I First amnesty is a fraud, it is not
known to Nigerian law. The
government can only put in two
things, exercise prerogative of
mercy after a person has been
convicted or when a person is
under trial to put a Nolli Prosequi,
but you cannot see somebody and
declare him a criminal and give
him pardon. It is very wrong, it is a
mistake we made the first time
and if you have made mistake
once, you continue to make it.
“If they give amnesty to the Salafi
movement, I don’t know them as
Boko Haram, other people will come
and maybe I will form a group and
ask for amnesty and they will give
me, so the vicious circle will
continue.
“I cannot in one breath see that
some other people are sitting at
home and receiving 65 thousand
Naira and say that others should
not. It will be inconsistent with
what I stand for. As far as am
concerned the amnesty has been
given to one set of people, it should
be given to all” he said.
Asked whether he was surprised
at the rejection of the amnesty
offer by the Boko Haram, Asari
Dokubo asked the group not to
“play to the gallery because this is
a war they cannot win. You will
just be killing and causing
dislocation in the system and the
Prophet said he who commits
suicide is going to end up in hell
fire and he who commits suicide is
not part of us.
“There are conditions for jihad and
we are not afraid to fight as
Muslims. Jihad is compulsory for
every Muslim, we are not ashamed
and we are not apologetic about it.
if North Korea can go to war with
South Korea, if America can go to a
senseless war in Iraq, if a Muslim
is threatened, the prophet says
fight against those who fight
against you, if they desist you stop,
there are conditions for jihad. Jihad
can only be possible if you are
prevented from praying, reading
your Koran, marrying and other
things that affect your religion.
When people are misguided you
need to guide them” he cautioned.
He called for the regulation of what
religious figures dish out to the
public noting that a situation
where people who are not
knowledgeable in the tenets of their
religion are allowed to mislead the
public will not augur well for the
peace of the country.

Why should parents pay huge amount of money to send their wards to a private university in nigeria and such ward will not get the best of Educational, social or moral benefit? These are the questions that crossed my mind, when I saw this pix on Sunday on how undergraduate are treated like secondary school students for coming late to the church chapel. Such act foolish act is common among our private university authorities in Nigeria.

Filing Taraba State Governor Danbaba
Danfulani Sunti’s personal effects have
been packed out of the Government
House, it was gathered at the weekend.
Suntai is being treated in a hospital in
Hannover, Germany for injuries he
sustained in a plane crash in Yola,
Adamawa State on October 25, 2012.
His security aides, some of whom were
involved is the crash, also had their
property evacuated from the
Government House, it was also learnt.
Suntai flew the aircraft on the fateful
day.
Some of the property were clothes,
books and vehicles.
Home appliances were also moved to
the governor’s house in Jalingo, the
state capital, and to Yola, where he also
has a house.
Suntai’s Jalingo home is close to the
Presidential Lodge.
Suntai’s personal vehicles were
reportedly taken to his (Suntai’s) house
in Yola Adamawa State, the previous
Sunday night.
“The vehicles were driven in a convoy
to his No 1, Suntai Street in Karewa.
“The 13 drivers, after delivering the
vehicles returned to Jalingo in a bus
marked: TGH 131,” The said, adding that
seven out of the 13 vehicles had never
been used.
The personal effects of the governor’s
Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Dasat Iliya, the
Chief Security Officer (CSO), Timo
Dangana and his Chief Detail, Joel Dan,
were evacuated in the day time.Suntai
and the three security aides were
involved in the crash. They survived
the mishap with varying degrees of
injuries.
The CSO and the Chief Detail have
recovered and returned to the state.
But Suntai and his ADC are still being
treated in Hannover.
Acting Governor Alhaji Garba Umar
after visiting him in Germany said
Suntai’s condition was stable.
The evacuation of Suntai’s property
from the Government House followed
his wife, Hajiya Hauwa’s visit to
Jalingo the previous weekend.
It was learnt that Mrs. Suntai held
meetings with the wives of members
of the House of Assembly,
commissioners and chairmen of local
government councils. She reportedly
pleaded with her loyalists to give the
acting governor’s wife, Mrs. Garba
Umar, the cooperation she enjoyed from
them.
Mrs. Suntai was quoted as saying she
and her husband never imagined that
they would one day be in the
Government House; adding that “what
has happened is an act of providence;
so, we thank God for everything.”
Mrs. Suntai also held a prayer service,
asking Taraba people to pray for her
ailing husband and their new born
twins.
She left Jalingo on February 18 for Yola
and Abuja.
The governor’s wife did not pick calls to
her telephone line last night. She also
failed to respond to text messages.
Her Press Secretary Abdulmalik
however denied that the governor’s
belongings were being packed out of
the Government House. “It is a lie,” he
told The Nation on the telephone.

Acting is a passion
I have always been passionate about acting. When I was in the secondary school, I loved entertainment. So, imagine how I felt when my father insisted that I read law. I do not blame him because a large percentage of my family members are lawyers. I rejected my father’s advice and went to Ebute-Meta, Lagos, where I met a popular actor, who introduced me to acting. The first film I featured in was Edunjobi. Then, I was not after money. I just wanted to be famous. I wanted to be like my bosses-Yinka Quadri and Taiwo Hassan. It was not easy climbing the ladder of success but I thank God for what I have become today.

Life as an actress
Acting is profitable and it has opened a lot of doors. I can proudly say that I am a successful actress. Featuring in many films? I did at a time but I withdrew when I was pregnant. I also don’t fancy featuring in just any film. I have produced a few movies. Producing a good movie is capital intensive and I spend over N15m on any film I produce. I go for big projects. That’s why it takes like three years for me to produce another one. I will produce, then make sure that I premiere within and outside Nigeria in order to recoup whatever I have spent.

Stereotypes
I don’t believe actresses are the pictures some people paint. Actresses are not loose. They are not promiscuous and we get married and live normal lifestyles like other women. Acting is just a career. That I interpreted the role of a loose girl in any movie should not make anyone think I am loose! I am first Bisi Ibidapo-Obe, before any character in any film.

Motherhood
It is exciting! It is an experience I pray every woman goes through. Luckily for me, I had my parents and family members who stood by me when I was pregnant. Also, I had my friends who supported me despite what went around in the media about who impregnated me. God was with me. In fact, I had a wonderful time and never suffered any illness. I was strong and still going about my other businesses. Everyone stood by me and there was no time to go into depression. Contrary to rumours, I was in my home and I was never evicted. I am as comfortable as ever. When the baby came last year, it was a hitch-free delivery. It was a girl and we christened her Destiny Oluwajomiloju Dino-Melaye. I am savouring all that motherhood has brought my way.

I have a fiancé
I must confess that I never knew my love affair with the father of my baby would turn awry but it did. Fortunately for me, the guy I was dating before stood by me when my daughter’s father rejected me. He saw all that happened as a script written by God, which had to play out. He stood by me throughout the pregnancy and he is still there for me. I am not bothered about any issue now. I just pray that the joy God has given me will live forever! Indeed, I am fulfilled as a woman.

Fashion
It is a passion I live daily. I love looking good! Anytime I travel abroad, I buy dresses. I love dresses. I love good make-up too. I can spend any amount on a nice dress, pairs of shoes and a beautiful bag. Jewellery? I am not a freak for gold. I am more comfortable with costume jewellery.


Advice to other actors
Be yourself and don’t strive to be like someone else. Pray and the sky would not be your limit.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Nigeria’s
Edo state is puzzled by the scanty
presence of police patrol vehicles in the
state, even though his government had
bought over 110 vehicles for the police.
He raised the concern at a special
meeting he held with traditional rulers
in the state, and revealed that he had
asked the acting commissioner of police
in the state to present the vehicles for
an audit.
“In Edo we have given out over 110
vehicles for patrol but when I go out I
don’t see them. I have asked the acting
Commissioner of Police to make the
vehicles available for a physical audit.
“We cannot accept a situation where the
vehicles provided for security in the
state are diverted for private use or
even taken outside the state for other
purposes.
“We will need to go beyond throwing
money at the security agencies and find
out how they have managed the ones
we have given to them,’’ he added.
The governor who several months ago
opposed the advocacy for state police,
proposed that the vigilante groups in the
state be armed to tackle security
challenges.
`We have to revisit the issue of the
vigilante groups carrying weapons to
complement the security agencies in our
communities.
He also urged the traditional rulers to
appeal to the Federal authorities to fund
the police adequately.
The meeting with traditional rulers was
also used by the governor to unfold his
plans for the coming year, topmost of
which were a planned security summit
and a town hall meeting on how to get
the Local Government Administration
deliver more dividends of democracy to
the people.
The government blueprint is contained
in a statement signed by Oshiomhole’s
Chief Press Secretary, Mr Peter Okhiria,
on Sunday in Benin.
It quoted the governor as saying that
the construction of the Central Hospital
Benin, which suffered a little setback in
the outgoing year, would be completed
and equipped with modern facilities.
Oshiomhole at the meeting said, “we
need your support to revisit the local
governments to make them work for
the people.
“We have to bring a change to the local
government administration to bring
government closer to the people. In a
democracy, the only thing that is
constant is change, we cannot continue
like this at the local government.
“` We cannot have local governments
that are there to pay salaries alone,” he
noted.
The governor, who expressed dismay
over the activities of the local
governments said among other reforms
to be carried out, was the trimming
down of wasteful expenditure.
He said that funds would be diverted for
capital projects such as the building of
markets in the respective local
governments
“I will seek your support to restore
sanity in our public life. We have to
carry out major reforms across the state
and we will need to be more firm,’’ he
stressed.
On the proposed security summit,
Oshiomhole said that it would involve all
stakeholders in the state.
He said that with the contributions from
the summit, the state government
would be able to deal with the security
challenges in the state reducing them to
the minimal level.
On agriculture, the governor said: “In the
first term of the administration, we
focused on infrastructure, which we are
going to sustain.
“We are now going to focus on
agriculture and the emphasis this time
is to attract businesses into the state.
“We will sustain the current projects
and accelerate the pace of work to the
extent our resources permit.
“We are expecting more investment in
the state that is why we have to
manage our land judiciously and make
the land accessible to genuine investors.

we believe in what I call Nigerian

South West we were the first to
collectively stick out our head to say

Jonathan for Nigeria. A Nigerian
dream entails collective aspiration,
collective hope, collective objective,
collective target and collective
fulfilment. It also entails our
communality. And what is our
communality in Nigeria? What is the
communality between me and my
brother from Sokoto? What is the
communality between me and even
my brother from Yenagoa? What is
the communality between me and
my brother from Maiduguri? What is
the communality between me and
my brother from Badagry, or even
from Ekiti? It is Nigerian identity.
Nigerian Identity! That is our
communality.
“If you say the communality is that
we belong to the human race, so do
the Europeans, so the Americans, so
the Asians. But we are one
communality, one identity, Nigerian
identity. If we have a common
identity, then we can have a
common Nigerian dream.
”For me, I see a Nigeria dream of land
of unity in diversity. For me, I see the
Nigerian dream in equal opportunities
for all Nigerians; land of freedom and
choices; land of prosperity, fairness,
peace and justice; land of love, care,
harmony among its people; land
respected internationally and playing
its rightful role within the comity of
nations and land where no one is
oppressed, discriminated against,
enslaved or disadvantaged.
‘’For instance, let me go to an element
of one of the aspects of the dream.
When I was a young man, leaving
secondary school, there was only one
university in Nigeria. The opportunity
for young men to go to university in
Nigeria was then limited. Today, there
are 117 universities in Nigeria,
expanded and enhanced
opportunities. We have to match that
with opportunity to access to
employment and to good living
standard. Your Excellencies, this I
believe is attainable and as a political
party, we in PDP have dreams.
“We have set about actualising our
Nigerian dream. You will see this in
the formation of PDP. The history of
the PDP speaks for its self. The
constitution of PDP, the manifesto of
our party and the performance of
our party so far. We have set our
hands on the plough and there is no
looking back for PDP.
‘’Drawing from our national
Constitution which upholds Federal
Character, we are the only political
party that enshrines Federal
Character in our Constitution
through zoning and rotation.
”And we should be proud of that. For
us and for the foreseeable future
that remains sacrosanct, I am an
apostle of Federal Character under
Murtala/Obasanjo administration and
I cannot now preach anything
different. The accident of history of
the recent past must be understood
for what it is, an unexpected
situation and PDP as a party has
addressed that issue.
‘’At the last meeting of BoT of our
party last Saturday, the issue was
tabled by the president as it was
raised by three distinguished
members of our party a day before
that BoT meeting with the President.
I was mandated to take up the
position of the party with the three
distinguished members of our party
who raised the issue. They are
General Ibrahim Babangida, General
Aliyu Muhammed and Alhaji
Abubakar Atiku.
“The following day, that was last
Sunday, I took up the matter with
General Ibrahim Babangida, who
expressed to me that the issue is not
the accident of history, but rather it
is the issue of perception in some
quarters that Federal Character,
zoning and rotation, as established
and practised by PDP, have been
jettisoned and permanently cancelled.
‘’I, on behalf of the BoT,
allay the fear and I promised a public
report while he briefs the other two
party members with whom we saw
the president on the eve of the BoT
meeting.
‘’What am I saying? What am saying
simply is that Federal Character,
zoning and rotation in our party is
alive and kicking. I personally see the
practice of Federal Character, zoning
and rotation of key political and
governmental positions and offices by
the PDP, if it will continue to be the
ruling party in Nigeria, I see that
position beyond my life time. It will
only happen when unity, stability
and democracy have been established
with full confidence and trust by
everybody in the system and within
the polity and among the participants
for factors of competence,
performance and track record to
become predominant. PDP should be
praised for being the only party that
enshrined Federal Character, zoning
and rotation in its constitution and
also practicing it.
‘’PDP has brought stability and
substantial predictability to the polity
and to the system. I do not know
who will be the President of Nigeria
after Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. That is
in the hand of God. But with the PDP
policy and practice, I can reasonably
guess from where in terms of section
of the country from where the
successor to President Goodluck
Jonathan will come and no internal
democracy or competition will be
hereby destroyed.
‘’The recent resort to sentiments and
emotions of religion and regionalism
is self-serving, unpatriotic and
mischievous to say the least. It is also
playing on dangerous emotive issues
that ignite uncontrollable passion and
can destabilise if not destroy our
country. It is oblivious of the
sacrifices others have made in the
past for unity stability and
democracy in Nigeria in giving out
their lives, shedding their blood and
in going to prison. I personally have
done two out of these three sacrifices
and I am ready to do the third if it
will serve the best interest of
Nigerian dream.
‘’Let me appeal to those who have
embarked on those dangerous roles to
desist from taking us on a perishable
journey. A common identity as
Nigerians there is more that binds us
than separate us.
‘’I am a Nigerian born a Yoruba man
and I am proud of those identities, as
they are for me complimentary. Our
duties, responsibilities and obligations
to our country and citizens and
indeed as leaders must go side by
side in our likes and demands. There
must be certain values and virtues
that would go concomitantly with
our dream.
‘’Thomas Payne said and I quote: “My
country is a world.” For me my
country I hold dear. On two occasions,
I have had the opportunity, thanks to
God and thanks to the people of
Nigeria, to work for my successors in
the government of Nigeria. On both
occasions, I never took the easy and
destabilising route of ethnic, regional
or religious consideration. Rather, I
took the enduring route of national,
uniting and stabilising route. I
worked for both President Shagari
and President Yar’Adua to succeed
me. Not just because they are
Muslims, northerners or Hausa/
Fulani, but because they could
strengthen the unity, stability and
democracy of Nigeria. We, of course,
with all the displeasure of ethnic
chauvinists, for doing what is right
for our country; that is in the nature
of the burden of leadership. A leader
must lead, no matter whose ox is
gored.
‘’In the present circumstance, let me
reiterate what I have said on a
number of occasions. Electing Dr
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in his own
right and on its own merit, which is
there to be seen as the President of
Nigeria, will enhance and strengthen
our unity, stability and democracy
and it will lead us towards
achievement of the Nigerian dream.
‘’We are impressed with the report
that Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has
already taken a unique and
unprecedented step of declaring that
he would only want to be a one term
President. If so, whether he knows it
or not, that is a sacrifice and it is
statesmanly. Rather than vilify him
and pull him down, we, as a party,
should applaud and commend him
and Nigerians should reward and
venerate him. He has taken the first
good step. Let us encourage him to
take more good steps to achieve
what we need to achieve for this
country by voting for him in
landslide victory as the first elected
President of Nigeria on basis of our
common Nigerian identity and for the
purpose of actualising the Nigerian

The presidency has denied comments attributed toNiger State governor, Babangida Aliyu that governors under the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party,PDP, signed an agreement with President Goodluck Jonathan prior to
the 2011 presidential elections that he
would only run for a single term.
Special Adviser to the President on
Political Matters, Dr. Ahmed Gulak,
made the presidency’s position known
in Abuja.
According to Gulak, Jonathan did not
sign any agreement with anyone. He
advised the Niger state governor who
is rumoured to be nursing a
presidential ambition to go about his
pursuit without making what he
called “frivolous allegations” against
the President.
He said, “President Goodluck Jonathan
did not win the presidential election in
Governor Aliyu’s state, Niger.
“Anybody who has a presidential
ambition, it is such a person’s
constitutional right to have ambition.
“He should however go about his
ambition without coming up with
frivolous allegations.
“President Jonathan did not sign such
an agreement with anybody to the
best of my knowledge.
“The alleged agreement only exists in
the figment of the imagination of
somebody with presidential ambition”
Gulak stated.

A former governor of Anambra
State and Presidential Adviser to ex-
President Olusegun Obasanjo on
Political Matters, Dr. Chukwuemeka
Ezeife, has disclosed that ”Obasanjo
treated Nigerians like animals.”
Ezeife stated this in a recent
interview where he was asked to
give an account of how he worked
for/with the former president,
Obasanjo.
”Obasanjo has so many good points. I
worked for Obasanjo not just as the
President, I worked for him as
(military) Head of State. I was a civil
servant…Working with Obasanjo as a
special adviser was a different thing
and it was not surprising. It was not
the same person. Obasanjo, as a
Head of State and General was a
human being, well organised and
composed but Obasanjo as the
President? Something had happened.
This man did nothing but they put
him in prison for three years, and his
neigbours were mosquitoes and rats.
In fact, he was giving names to rats
that he saw and when he came out,
he didn’t really distinguish
between Nigerians and the rats
he met in prison. He started
treating us like rats, rabbits and
mosquitoes .”Ezeife said.
Ezeife however
highlighted that “Nigeria has need
for an Obasanjo, there are areas
he is so good that nobody else
seems to be as good and we need
him now. He has political instincts
that can keep Nigeria together and
make every Nigerian feel like a
Nigerian.”

Report Emanating from the northern PDP members says, PDP chieftains are planning to zone the 2015 presidency back to the north.. An insider reveals dat officials are working to kick against president Goodluck jonathan ticket and plan to achieve the Babangida Aliyu/Alao-Akala ticket in 2015. It was reported that Oyinlola was tipped to partner with Aliyu, but his court case with party hierarchy could be used against him, hence the choice for Akala was suggested.
