By Ola Ajayi, Ibadan

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, an ex-boxer of repute, who retired from boxing after his enthronement in 1970, has dusted his boxing gloves and will, today, mount the ring to take on his opponent at Oyo Township Stadium.

The fight is the peak of a nine-day event lined up to mark the 78th birthday of Oba Adeyemi. When Saturday Vanguard contacted one of the participants, who is the Vice President of Nigerian Boxing Managers Association, Isiaka Olatunji, he said a boxing belt will be presented to the winner of the bout between Alaafin and his opponent.

A United States based ex-boxer, Mojeed Okedara was said to have presented the belt to the monarch as a gift for his birthday. But the reputable king, who still has boxing blood flowing in his veins, reportedly said he would prefer fighting for the belt. His response yielded fruits and the bout is slated for today. Right from that day, Alaafin has reportedly been training hard to overcome his opponent on the ring.

According to Olatunji, “His imperial majesty, Alaafin has been training hard everyday for the bout. I’m sure with level of his training, he is ready for the title fight. At the preliminary stages of the events, many boxers from Oyo, Edo. Delta, Osun . Kwara, Ogun, Lagos, Ekiti and Ondo states had featured and engaged one another in competitive and energy-sapping bouts. Before pugilist Alaafin mounts the ring today, a final match will come up between two other contenders. The fight holds at 11am today.

I'm still surprised at some of the comments i have been reading regarding this guy's creation ever since it reached FP.

what he created is a walkie-talkie, (even though this one is bulky) and it's mostly used in the military and paramilitary.

It's not an invention, that is how olden days telecommunications systems work until they decided to commercialize it, and made it more advance as we have today.

It's only in the military and paramilitary that we can still find it today. They have a short range of communication and limited channels.

Even as it is, he can only use it within his domain because there are stringent laws binding radio frequency allocation/usage, due to interference issues. He will need a license to operate it in a public domain.

And I can see him having issues with already existing telecommunication companies if he decides to go into mass production and commercialize it.

Although, I appreciate his creative mind he deserves to be commended and encouraged.

Imagine you found yourself in a Sitting Arrangements like this in An Exam, how do you Cope,What has your experience been like?

For some of us as Students while in school or out of school the period of exams is the best/worst days in school. At some point we definitely must have gone through this sitting arrangements during exams probably when it is selective or departmental courses.
There are a few things we dread prior to the day of the exams like; the moments we see exams timetable, the exam venues, the course itself esp if it's the one you don't like at all and the lecturer and the so-called dreaded exam invigilators that you don't want to see on your exam days at all. Etc. grin

Mehn, there are just so many scenarios, backup plans and experiences one has gone through on exams days especially when sitting arrangements like this doesn't favor you or your friends that you have formed Formation on who would be the Striker,Midfielder and everything just falls apart on that day Or shey na Expo you don carry, keep but that lecturer go just stick to you like glue and no go comot your side and you're in your final year in school?

What do you love or hate about exam sitting arrangements like this while in school?

Health / Re: The Use And Abuse Of Tramadol. by Horlaz(m): 1:55pm On Mar 06, 2016
coollabman:
Tramadol is an opiod pain medication used to treat moderate to moderately severe pain. When taken as an immediate-release oral formulation, the onset of pain relief usually occurs within about an hour. Tramadol is a type of strong opiod that works on the nervous system and brain to reduce the feel of pain. There are many different forms, strengths and brands of tramadol. Some forms and brands start working quickly to ease the pain, while others release the tramadol they contain more slowly, over several hours, to provide a constant and more even pain control. These are called ”modified-release” and often have ‘XL’ ‘SR’ or ’24hr’ in front of the brand name.

Why is tramadol abused?

Apart from its pain relieving effects, tramadol has been discovered to give a feeling of euphoric high when taken in large quantity. When opiods like tramadol are mixed with alcohol, it increases the effects of the alcohol.
Toyosi Ogunjobi, a 19-year-old public secondary school student in Lagos, who is into the abuse of the drug told The Nation that he mixes tramadol with alcohol when he wants to engage in manual labour. He claims it allows him to work harder and longer but that if he takes the mixture without working, it weakens him.

Gabriel Oladoye, a 21 year-old undergraduate of the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta also admits to abusing tramadol. To him, tramadol serves as an aphrodisiac. He says he normally takes the drug few minutes before sex and it enables him last longer and perform better in bed.

Bode, a 27 year-old liquor seller says mixing tramadol with Bullet alcohol drink helps him last longer during intercourse, since he normally suffers from premature ejaculation. He shared an experience in which he engaged in intercourse all night with a commercial sex worker after taking tramadol with ‘Bullet’. He said they had marathon sex all night, but confessed that he had to visit the clinic during the day, when he began experiencing pains on his manhood. The doctor, after checking him up for infections, warned him to desist from such medications and marathon sex, as he was lucky not to have ruptured his tissues.

Effects of tramadol abuse

Although tramadol is an over-the-counter medication, its abuse can cause some undesirable effects similar to those of other opiates, such as dizziness, weakness, sleepiness, insomnia, headache, shaking, heartburn, panic attacks, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, itching, sweating and dry mouth.

According to Adekunle Adeseye of Ariset Medical Hospital, tramadol belongs to a family of analgesic and it is actually a synthetic opiod. He said it can lead to addiction like other opiods such as morphine, cocaine and the rest. Some of its other side-effects include light-headedness, serious vomiting and even sedation, as it is narcotic in nature.

Dr. Jude Okonkwo, a medical practitioner at Medicare Hospital Ota, added that overdosing on the drugs can make some people experience difficulty in breathing; and that once addicted to the drugs, abusers won’t be able to function well without the drug, as it has neurological side-effects.

Asked to confirm the claims that the drug has aphrodasic effects and also gives extra strength, Dr. Okonkwo said “Those claims could be true, as it is a narcotic. It heightens the senses, but its effects vary from persons to persons. Abusing the drug has more” negative effects than any perceived positive.
He advised that abusers-turned addicts should stop and youths who take it for recreation because of its euphoric effect should stop as well; as drugs should only be taken on doctor’s prescription.

When asked how the increase in tramadol abuse can be curbed, he advised that parents and guardians should tutor their wards more on the hazards of drug abuse. He also wants the government to place serious sanctions and restrictions on the use of the medication.

Health / Re: current hot weather in Nigeria: share your frustration by Horlaz(m): 9:12pm On Feb 20, 2016
purest21:
Could this be the global warming I always hear in all these James bond movies?

I don't know if it's only me that have been experiencing this unprecedented excessive increase in general temperature. Heat just too much abeg!
I end up bathing up to 8 times in just a day even at midnights. There's currently scarcity of normal cold water for bathing in my area; all the taps, pumps and tanks around produce HOT water without anybody boiling them angry sad

Just last night I was about to suffocate, even the fan was producing very hot air and I couldn't take it no more. As I tried to lay outside at the balcony I nearly melted; the damn floor has not gotten rid of the afternoon's sun yet. The floor was smoking, I had to improvise then. I filled a bucket with the usual hot water and then brought out 3 sachet water that I had earlier left in the freezer to block. I tore out the sachets entirely and put the bare blocks in my bucket of water (drastic times call for drastic measures) shocked undecided . After some minutes I carried the bucket to the bathroom, took off my already sweat-soaked boxers and as I splashed the water on my body, Lo and behold I just heard the exact sound akara balls make when it's being thrown into hot oil grin ; I got all fresh again and decided not use the towel so that the refreshing feeling can last a while longer. To my dismay, I got to my wardrobe, searched a few seconds for another boxers, put it on. Then as I raised my head up, I got the feeling of something rushing down my bare back.. (God save me from karashika)

Nwanne I had to improvise again. I changed the position of mattress in a way it's adjacent to the refrigerator. I opened the refrigerator wide open and slept with my head stuck in it.

This morning, it was the sound of the boiling egusi soup I had in the freezer that woke me up. The ice in the freezer had melted and the egusi was having great fun inside the bowl even trying to throw the cover over. As I opened the bowl and interrupted it's little party, it was very unforgiven and threw back at me the most horrible stench I've ever perceived in lifetime. My rich soup has soured!! cry cry

Please nairalanders how are your areas let me know if I will have to relocate; and who do we blame for this grin ??
this na end time heat...kwara state here na lyk hell nd phcn no help d matter @all ,God pls help us ooo...

Generally a good write up but for

In this age that most software are 64bit, getting a machine with just 4GB of ram is like driving on a single carriage road instead of dual carriage or higher!
Speed is really restricted on single carriage road.

Likewise for 64bit machines which are now the standard, getting anything less than 6GB is simply putting bumps in your way.
8GB is ideal for most people but certainly not 4GB.

If you are gonna do things like Photoshop get at least 8GB.
Thank you..

This Post is Exclusive from Mokoshalb Global Pimpz www.mokoshalb.com
Laptops are getting more powerful and thinner each day thanks to the ultrabook design features and new processors by Intel. Often people search for best laptops within their price range and they all they get is sponsored laptop recommendations. These paid reviews often glorify overpriced Apple Macbooks and does not do justice to other brands out there, e.g. Lenovo, Dell and Asus. But I am not going to debate which laptop is best or recommended for purchase in year 2016. Instead, I will give you important tips and checklist for buying a good laptop that will immensely help you with your Laptop purchase.

Guide and Tips for Buying a New Workstation Laptop:
1. Processor Architecture

The currently used high performance Processor microarchitecture by Intel is Broadwell series. Also, new architecture is coming early 2016 its called Skylake processors. Every new processor series promises improved GPU, CPU performance bundled with awesome battery life. So look for a laptop with newer CPU.
Intel Broadwell starts with 5xxx on processor model no.
Intel Skylake series starts with 6xxx
2. Battery Life

After the performance, the next is battery life. A decent laptop must have at least 2+ hours of battery life on a full charge. If it fails to deliver such usage time on battery, it’s time to skip that laptop.

3. Keyboard, Mouse and Webcam

Placement of input devices is very crucial. Make sure of the following:
Keyboards’ keys are properly placed, there has to be a little distance between them.
The touchpad should be in the middle and should not interfere when you’re typing.
Webcam must be placed in center, if its on the left-right, you’ll have a hard time adjusting with it.
4. Long Charger Cable

Pretty much self explanatory. Power brick must have long cable so you don’t have to stay near power socket all the time just to charge your laptop.

5. Avoid Graphic Card Unless Required

Graphic cards (GPU) are very power hungry and they can put a negative impact on the battery life or your machine. Also, the video card performance reduces as your laptop ages. It is best to avoid GPU unless you have real use for it (e.g. gaming, video editing). Intel is doing a great job with the new processors, the Broadwell, Skylake series CPU’s already have good dedicated graphics (Iris Pro) processors built-in.

6. Heating Issues

It’s best not to overlook heat factor. Overheating can cause laptop to malfunction, it can also reduce its life. If the laptop gets heat up even on low usage, avoid it at all cost because it can cause permanent burns on your Lap.

7. Build Quality

It is the very important thing to look for. Build quality has to be sturdy, check the overall laptop and examine its build quality, also check the LCD/LED hinges durability. If the laptop is made of cheap plastic/material, chances are it won’t survive in long run.

8. Good number of USB ports

I have this laptop with just 2 usb slots which is a pain. I have to use USB extension to connect additional devices. So make sure you get laptop with at least 3 to 4 usb ports.

9. Built-in Operating System

Windows 10 is now a default standard for all coming Laptops. It means drivers and software utilities will be that operating system. But what if you want to run a program that only runs on Windows 7 or 8.1? Always check backward driver and OS compatibility on manufacturer’s website.

10. Headphone and Mic Jack

Many laptops these days come with single dual-purpose 3.5mm audio jack that supports both Headphone/Mic input. I would suggest you to avoid it and get a machine with separate for Mic and Headphone slot.

11. Avoid Touchscreen (Hybrids)

The idea of touchscreen looks really appealing on a Laptop but trust me it isn’t. You might use your laptop touchscreen for a few days and then never use it again. Laptops are not Tablet replacement, they are heavy, they heat up pretty quickly on your lap. Not to mention the rotatable screen is fragile and can be easily broken.

12. Expensive is not always better.
This is not a case when buying a notebook. Many laptop manufacturers add premium price, addons such as extended warranty, software bundles which you’re not going to ever use. Avoid that.

13. Screen size

The screen size should be big enough at least 15 inches. Because looking at small screen for long hours can affect your eye sight and cause eye strain.

14. SD Card reader.

It is great to a have a built-in SD card reader. You don’t have to connect your camera through a data cable. So keep an eye on it.

15. RAM and Storage

If you are planning to use your laptop for web browsing, movies and a little bit of Photoshop, 4 GB ram is enough. If you going use memory intensive applications such as CAD, get a RAM upgrade. For Hard drive, you can get 500 GB or 1 TB, it totally depends on you. If you want speedy storage, get Solid State Drive (SSD).

16. HDMI, Ethernet and other ports

Make sure the laptop you are going to buy has all support for all these ports. HDMI will let you connect your Laptop to your TV for watching movies and sharing media. Ethernet (LAN) is good for transferring huge files to router or media server.

17. WiFi and Bluetooth.

They are standard for every machine nowadays. But if you have a dual band gigabit router installed at your house then double check if your Laptop supports gigabit WiFi.

My thinking capacity has come to an end, let me know if I am missing something. Nowadays, it is very hard to buy a laptop that fits your needs. I hope my checklist helps you in your next Laptop purchase.
