Politics / Alaoji: Another Power Plant (1074MW) Getting Ready To Be Launched In Abia State by horsepower102: 5:25am On Mar 20
The Alaoji power plant with a capacity of 1074MW combined gas turbine is undergoing serious upgrades under PPP. Chrome group owned by Emeka Offor in addition to EEDC is in charge of the renovation and upgrades of the power plant.

Governor Alex Otti visited them and told them that he will do everything necessary to make sure that they complete the project.

Once complete the power plant will supply the remaining local governments in Abia state including Umuahia with 24/7 electricity. The rest will go to the south east and Nigeria.

According to Emeka offor, the upgrades of Alaoji power plant will take between 18 to 24 months to complete.

Politics / Notice How The Noise About Nationwide Hunger Protests Died Down by horsepower102: 9:43pm On Mar 19
Not surprising Nigerians will never disappoint in their character.

They were waiting for igbos to be in the frontlines of their nation wide protests. So if things go bad they will play their favorite sports of using Igbos as scapegoat.

They were so disappointed when Igbos unanimously announced no participation.

Now everyone has chicken out.

The few protest that happened, notice how the army and police were not firing bullets or even trying to stop the protesters.

GEJ had a program called Growth Enhancement scheme where farmers receive 50% subsidy on fertilizers, for a maximum of two bags, through the use of their mobile phones or what we call Electronic-wallet system (or E-wallet). It was very sucessful and it was actually started by a yoruba Man Adewumi Adeshina. India and other countries paid him a visit then to understand how they can copy that program for their own farmers.

GEJ to me was best president ever get because he visionary leader and think about common man.Boko Haram people lot more decided to destryed his Government and divert attetion of every Nigieran to it...they played politic untill they de ided to leave everyrthing for them. May God thr destryer of this great nation..

GEJ administration was the first time I started caring about Nigeria politics in my adult life. I used to sit down and study his plans for Nigeria and his policies. Then I will discuss with my father later about it.

He had very great ideas for Nigeria. He made sure to site many projects in the north even though they hated him so much.

He did reforms on fertilizer distribution and have farmers cell phone to communicate with them.

India and other nations came to Nigeria because of him to study our agricultural reforms.

Goodluck Jonathan backward integration policy was the last serious attempt to diversify nigerian economy to non-oil sectors using industrial policy. Cassava bread was one of the ideas they came up with thanks to Akinwumi Adesina.

The opposition made fun of the idea but it was working.

Our wheat importation reduced due to cassava flour substitution and we saved some of our forex. We were on the right track until the disaster called buhari was entrenched into power.

Today we are getting wheat donation from war torn ukraine.

Oh you are right. I forgot about that one.

It uses CNG to power itself. But it can be used as a back up.

You even have time for all these people. Their almight LAGOS has 6 IPP and all combined generate 47MW and these guys want to shame a city that is generating 188MW from a single plant and 9.5MW from another IPP.

What’s the other IPP that produces 9.5mw?

The distribution company (EEDC owned by Emeka offor) will not allow it to happen.

That’s why I said since they won’t allow it, why don’t they generate and distribute. My problem is that they are just sitting there doing nothing. They will only wake up once another company tries to do what Barth Nnaji did.

It’s almost like they are enemy of progress. That’s my problem.

what will propel energy sector growth and development in the south east is competition not monopoly. Favouring Geometric will bring monopoly. Same monopoly that made EEDC complacent.
Igbo investors should get licenses, build power plants and EEDC will sit up and start their own.

That's how to grow energy sector in a free market economy.

Good point

Many of us don't know the details of what happened between Emeka Offor and Geometric Energy. I thought it was Emeka Offor's fault, but it wasn't. It's the fault of some useless government officials who don't care about making a mess of the country. They are just after money.... people like VP Namadi Sambo who supervised that privatisation under Goodluck Jonathan.

Here's the summary of the saga

Before privatisation, the federal government gave Geometric Energy the license to ring-fence parts of Abia State and supply power to them.

During the privatisation of the power distribution subindustry, BPE concessioned the entire SE distribution network to Emeka Offor, not minding that some parts of Abia State were already concessioned to Geometrics.

That's why the two brothers went to court to settle the issue and it took years to be settled. Thankfully, Emeka Offor's license to own EEDC has even expired. All discos licenses expired last November, and electricity has been moved to the concurrent list.

The truth is, the whole power dynamics is complicated now, but I hope that state governments will start building their own power stations, especially states that can use gas or water to generate power. We cannot continue to do less than 5k megawatts. It's disgraceful!

If the bolded part is true that’s the best news I have heard this year.

This will unlock so many things regarding power generation in the south east.

Have you ever run a successful business, why not you start the project and see who will support you. A business man seeking public fund do you know how embarrassing that sounds. He has the bigger market, south East is not pulling out from the national grid entirely, when we pull out others will have stable electricity while we fund our own nonsense let everyone enjoy the epileptic light while Aba enjoys the special city status

Businessmen both in Nigeria and all over the world always seek funds to expand their businesses. Even Dangote refinery sought funds from various institutions and individual investors.

sometimes you guys enjoy talking off point. EEDC is a distribution company. We need and off grid generating company. If our investors can invest on power plant and south east can generate 10k megawatts at least, we should be able to improve the economy of the region. But in Nigeria, corruption is more lucrative than hardwork.

I know EEDC is a distributor but current laws allow them to also generate.

Wait until you become successful, what makes you think that you care for your people more than he does, do you know how many people he he have given job? Do you think he’s just interested in power distribution alone do you know why he is not generating

What is stopping his from raising financing or partnering with other companies to do what Barth Nnaji did in Aba. There are millions of igbos both home and abroad that will help finance EEDC to start building power plants all over the south east.

Nothing is stopping Emeka offor. He needs to step aside and let someone else do it if he doesn’t want to do it.

Dumb economics, purchase what’s already built why not add to it. Besides is the light situation in south East different from other parts of the country? Aba alone deserve 24 hours power other south East states should be managing the national grid for now. If we all pull out of the national grid it isn’t in our best interest let Aba be the industrial hub let Emeka be managing the rest of south East

So you want manufacturing hubs like Nnewi, Onitsha, to remain with national grid. You must be insane.

Okay what is stopping EEDC from building embedded power generation plants for those cities. They have the laws on their side but they are not doing it.

Why the hate on Emeka Offor tho?? Man wey people dey worship for Onitsha

Kill the spirit of hate in u

I don’t hate Emeka offor but he needs to move into other business and leave power distribution.

His greed delayed Geometric power from starting because he insisted that Aba ring fenced area was included in his purchase. At some point even obi of Onitsha thankfully had to step into the matter. Thank God Geometric came out successfully from the case but they became bankrupt because of it.

If I was Emeka offor, I would have never let it go on that far because my love for Ndiigbo is greater than my personal greed.

Another enhancer of city beauty is having buildings of a certain floor heights concentrated in clusters.

It exudes that Manhattan look.

This is for igbos to think about. Since EEDC power distribution company was purchased by Emeka offor, the power situation in the south east has not improved.

The company frustrated and bankrupted geometric in court. If not Geometric would have started power supply to Aba years ago.

The owner of the company is not patriotic to Ndiigbo and not willing to make the needed investments needed to improve power supply to the south east.

This is why I propose that we should finance geometric to purchase EEDC.

If geometric purchases EEDC, they can build power plants and distribute locally to different municipalities in the south east.

Think about it.

It is not rocket science.

Allow private companies to build embedded power plants and give them the power to distribute to specific localities. They can pay a small fee to the owners of the distribution regions like EEDC.

The monopoly of the current distribution companies makes it impossible to do what Barth Nnaji did for Abia state.
