Politics / Re: Aba Is The First City In Nigeria To Have A Mayor In Modern Times by horsepower102: 6:16pm On Oct 19, 2023 |
Gajagojo: Mayor is a globally recognized position but in general they typically run the cities including waste management, drainage, pot holes, building codes and permits, traffic violations, parks and recreation etc. They make cities work and function well. It’s only in Nigeria that we have state government doing everything. 1 Like |

Jogs1900: I agree but I think what he intends to do is to use tax revenue from Aba to fund the position. I don’t know if you have heard but Otti has reformed the tax collection in Abia state. Everything in now digital. That has already increased revenue tremendously. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Jogs1900: A Governor in Nigeria has the constitutional power to create any agency or ministry that they deem necessary. Although if he is voted out, the Mayoral position can be dissolved by the new administration. It’s up to Alex Otti to convince the law makers to make the position constitutional. It can be done but Alex Otti needs to do the work of making it permanent. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Jogs1900: Currently it’s an appointed position but Abia state can modify their state constitution to accommodate a Mayoral position as an elected office. Then they can structure the revenue sharing formula so that the Mayor can have the resources to administer the city. As for your initial question, I have no idea how it relates to the topic. 17 Likes |

For years those us that have been discussing development of south east and Nigeria as a whole have been stressing the need for major cities to have their own Mayor who will focus on development of those cities since the state government cannot do it all. Some people asked what about local governments chairmen? Can’t local government do it? The answer is No because local government are not equipped with the technicalities of running and managing a city. If it was a rural area, local government can do that but once those areas turn to cities, you need a Mayor. 20 Likes 1 Share |

Where are all the Hamas sympathizers in Nigeria? This has been happening in Nigeria for decades and all of you hypocritical Hamas sympathizers have been silent. Is it because the fulanis are predominantly Muslims and it’s okay if they kill kafirs for their lands. May Eternal curse be upon you hypocrites. 366 Likes 47 Shares |

Things that I believe Enugu city needs to do 1) Have an official city master plan which no one can deviate from. 2) Demand that estate developers leave enough space for road expansion 3) Mandate that every house and business should plant a tree or garden 4) Cover the open gutters and create side walks for pedestrians 13 Likes |

After coming across some pictures of Enugu, I couldn’t help but think how similar it looks like Kigali, Rwanda. The governor of Enugu state though controversial in his election win needs to sit up in the development of Enugu. Enugu has all it needs to drive tourism and hospitality because of its beauty and serenity. Below are some pictures of Enugu 9 Likes

They say sunlight is the best disinfectant When things are bad in the south east or leadership is underperforming, we Igbos bring it out to the forefront no matter how embarrassing it is. This forces the leadership to do something about it. When things are bad in the south west, they just hide it. There is an accepted culture of suffering and smiling and projecting this false image of the south west using propaganda. I am even surprised something like this finally made it to front page. 31 Likes 6 Shares |

This thread proves the point I have been telling Ndiigbo. Notice how quiet it has been since it was posted. Imagine if this happened in Anambra or another south-east state. It’s already on front page. The official statistics of Nigeria shows that south east remains the safest region in Nigeria despite all the propaganda pushed on main stream and social media. 1 Like
