In the spirit of giving back

Brief History

I applied for a B1/B2 Visa in 2016 with hubby.(hubby was renewing, mine was first issue) sent change of intent letter. I used Emory hospital in Atlanta 2017. Hospital bill was $4325(including epidural), Doctor's bill was 1350. I had 3 pediatrician visit ( 250).

We submitted our dropbox application Dec 11 2018, it was a very long wait. We got the 221g letter Jan 21 2019, we were able to schedule our interview for Jan 27th .

VO good morning, passport please
DH and I - good morning as we passed the passport to her
VO - checking through the passport, what was the purpose of your last visit to the United states
DH - Childbirth
VO- you are Canadian permanent residents?
DH- yes
Vo- how much did you pay?
DH- About 6500
VO can I see the invoice of your bill.
We passed the initial bill sent by the hospital, stating the amount paid, itemized bill, receipt of payment, letter addressed to the us border agency for my poe then, doctors bill and all the peds bill
Looking through and scrutinizing every page
Vo why did the hospital give you a discount
Me - we were not given a discount, we were sent a bill and we paid what was sent
Vo - why am I seeing a total of 11,000? What is the 7,000 for
Me- as indicated on the bill, the 7000 was ob flat rate of which I dnt use a doctor from the hospital, I used doctor with privileges in the hospital. Which is the other bill of 1350
Vo - I still dont understand the 7000
Hubby tried to explain but she still seemed confused( we were as confused as she was)
She took the Bill and left asking us to give her a few minutes
After about 1 minute
Vo- I need time to go through your bill. She started typing
Vo - you are Canadian permanent residents?
Hubby- yes
Vo continued typing
Vo- how much did you say the childbirth cost?
Hubby- 6500
She was still typing
VO - what is the purpose of this visit?
Hubby- to visit family before we move finally to Canada.
VO- how long do you intend to stay in United states? She was still typing
Hubby - 2 weeks
VO hands us white paper for administrative processing and told us to keep checking our profile for their decision

I checked the profile everyday. There was no change till 5th of March when the case was updated but still on administrative processing. By 7th of March, the status changed to issued to the glory of God.

In my opinion, I feel they know u want to go and have a baby in Canada and did not declear it especially since you included your child's US papers. Also wih alot of ppl being denied by US, they know these ppl are trying their luck with Canada.

What was the questions? are you coming to have a baby and said visiting? Did you apply alone?

MsJanez01:
Hello Hotstepper..hehehe. perphaps God knew i needed an advise. Pls i applied for my US renewal after birthing in Dec was asked to schedule for an interview but till date am yet to get an appointment date as no dates are available. However, while waitinf for date i decided to apply for Canada tourist visa though for the purpose of birthing but didnt declare. Was however denied yday for reasons that they suspect am not being truthful with questions asked on the form and they are not certain i will return after my visit. In my documents i included my recent promotion letter and dat of my husband, child's Us passport, proof of funds of about 7kCAD and other vitals. I intend applying again probably next month.. please what do u think i can do differently this time. Kindly note i applied alone

I guess ur birth was in Alberta cuz in Ontario, u apply online or go there in person

Oleayo22:
Congrats. Did you fill the form they gave you at the hospital and returned it to them there? If you did, then go to the nearest registry to you and apply. You pay there, I applied for expedited using my husband 's itinerary and picked it next day.
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Canada by Hotstepper(f): 6:14pm On Mar 04, 2019
registry takes longer so if u r going there, make sure u go with ur flight ticket so they can make it faster for u

rainazoe:
I applied for birth certificate online using the ontario 5 in 1 application and it took 3weeks with several calls and faxing my ticket to them on urgency grounds.

So if there is a registry near you best you use them.
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Canada by Hotstepper(f): 2:18pm On Mar 04, 2019
Ckngratulations! why dont u leave the dr's contact info for others who are interested in scarborough.

Hello,

Congratulations! please do not panic as everything will fall into place. People that were in ur shoes before either emailed the embassy to notify them of recent development or just came to POE and said vacation then birth.

Do you have any family/friends in these cities u have mentioned?

1. Please you have time so you should go and do the registry.

2. Yes, u can still get visa without travel history.

GlitzG:
Hi everyone,
Obviously I have a lot of questions and from reading so many posts here, am really scared. I just bumped into this thread few hours ago and I feel I have made a mistake already. My fiancée is 4month pregnant and I will love it if she can give birth in Canada. I saw an had for a traveling agent and cos of my excitement, I paid for part Payment for both of our visa processing. Now the questions I have now

1- they require marriage certificate which we don’t have yet cos we planned on getting married officially 6month after she puts to bed. I made enquiries about registry and was told it will take 21business days for that to happen. Is there any way around this or it’s not necessary we go for registryhuh

2. We don’t have any travel history at all. Can this cause a visa denial?

3- she is still using her name cos we ain’t married yet and we want to go as a couple. What can be done?.

Please house, help us out cos all this comments am reading from here makes me think I made a big mistake by paying commitment to the travel agency.

@hotstepper @justwise

Yayy! Congratulations........This shows that they give for birth tourism ...I live this testimony

placebo:
Apologies for the long post. I have been following this thread for a while and I would like to share my visa story. As soon as I got pregnant Q3, 2018, I decided to give Canada a try as my USA visa was going to expire at the end of the year and I also travel a lot for work so I couldn’t afford to drop my passport for an extended period of time.

I submitted my online application on the 9th of November in the country where I work (mainly because they have a processing period of 16 days). These are the supporting documents that I recall submitting;
Marriage certificate
Change of name
Employment letter
Work ID card
Letter of introduction from my office
3 months payslips
Statement of account (about $20k at the time)
Shares statement(about $11k although value has dropped now)
International insurance letter of introduction
Letter of invitation from my friend
Letter of explanation
Past medical reports from nigeria

I chose ‘Others’ and stated medical tourism in my online application. In my letter of explanation, I also stated that the sole purpose of visit was childbirth. I however found out after submission that there was no biometric center in that country so I had to wait till I returned to Nigeria in December where I eventually did my biometrics on the 10th of December, 2018.

On the 21st of December, I received a letter from the Embassy stating that I will need to replace my letter of invitation with one from a doctor or hospital stating availability and cost. I believe I sort help from here but didn’t get much feedback. After trying for days to get a letter of invitation, I decided to just write another letter of explanation stating my appointment details and cost. I also got my insurance to send a guarantee of payment to my hospital of choice. ( I attached this document to my LOE)

On the 24th of January 2019, My visa application was approved and I was asked to submit my passport.
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Canada by Hotstepper(f): 8:26am On Feb 15, 2019
Congratulations!.

Canada has started to stamp 5 days for people who got tourist visa and come to the airport to say vacation and then birth. So i know people who came in for like a week to use the tourist visa then went bk to naija nd will be coming bk in March for birthing

Let us try and not spoil this thing. It is already in the media and i think they r being watchful now. Wishing u a safe trip .

please feel free to share and people will use their own discretion for their own application .

jennymee:
Hellooooo... we all know that Canada is not like the US where you can clearly indicate purpose of travel and because there is actually no place in the application where you indicate birthing as reason for visit. I will eventually declare at POE because pregnancy can not be hidden. I am not complicating issues for anyone! If you are comfortable to indicate purpose of visit as birth, please go ahead other wise follow your heart. More reason I don't like to comment on public forum. Abeg it's a Friday let me enjoy the weekend in peace.

Please ask them if the money is refundable incase you do not get ur visa.

bamcyburg:
@Hotstepper please urgent reply. My wife and I contact a Doctor in Ottawa (Obygn). The secretary said we have to made payment of 2100CAD first (doctor fee) then receipt and some other things will be sent to us. Is it advisable to make the payment before submitting our application?
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Canada by Hotstepper(f): 10:14pm On Feb 06, 2019
Most people who has gotten visa did that without an IV letter

Temi231:
Dear all,

I have been a silent follower of this thread but I am out today since the US has become unfortunate to themselves as if is not the money that I am spending in their country. I don't know why they are restricting date for Dropbox. The date I got is very close to my edd so I am trying my luck on Canada application

Please @hotstepper, well done on the good job doing here.

Please, I saw that someone needs to invite me. Is that a must that someone must invite me? please enlighten me biko. Also, if you don't mind, can I get a preview or format for invitation letter used. Please I can PM anyone for that

Thank you
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Canada by Hotstepper(f): 10:12pm On Feb 06, 2019
If people can be honest, they should come and aay how I always tell them to ask in this thread so everyone will learn. I often even encourage people to give the canada trip experience for everyone.

I can decide to be mute here nd this thread will still go on but what is thr point? I just do not like how I am been judged wrongly. Also, if i have ever messaged anyone privately 1st, plz thr person should say so.

Beautyaddy:
Yes, I agree that Hotstepper has been very helpful on this thread. I think the only fault she made was allowing the continuous endless personal message to her to go on.

All these PM defeats the main reason the thread was started.
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Canada by Hotstepper(f): 10:38pm On Feb 05, 2019
Please do not say what is not entirely true. I know how i tell people who message me to ask their question on the forum so everyone will be learning nd contribute .

SHe sent me a message, i did not reply nd she came bk here to say she measaged me nd I did not reply, then i replied her.

Besides I do not come here to ask anyone to message me. I still take out time to come here and put my 2cents....

Did she think of what the implication will be for the future to come to canada or even most western countries? any update on her?

Beautyaddy:
Huh, I hope you are lucky to get approved.

A family friend was also given such very short stay when she got to Canada too. The CBP officer said it was because she did not declare it during her initial visa application that she was coming to give birth in Canada.

She tried to apply for extension but was denied along with her visa being cancelled. However, she went on staying behind to have her baby in Canada.

Paper is done is Naija bur i think it takes time that is why I said one can do it if u have the time .

I sincerely hope either US or Canada wi work for u

Nonkala:
Tks hotstepper, was almost done wt my justification to submit tomorrow wen I came online

My US interview is on Feb 21 and supposed to have travelled by March 29 against Edd 28

If I hold on for paper will I make it Incase US is not successful and hope a US rejection won’t lead to Canada rejection too

Does paper route means it must be screened in Nigeria too.
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Canada by Hotstepper(f): 1:29pm On Feb 03, 2019
hello dear,

please maintain child birth and apply alone. I always think that couples should not apply together for now.

Send the same docs as bedore but write an explanation letter and attach to them.

An immigration consultant recently said that they r denying alot of ppl going via online route cuz its any officer in any country that can deal with the applocation.

He suggest paper cuz officera in Naija understand is better nd situatoon of things there. So.moving forward for now, if one has plenty time, do paper .

Wishing u the very best and it will end in praise

Nonkala:
Yea am replying alone, wt nobody now, let me achieve my main aim
Shd we stl maintain childbirth now or leave it at tourism, for me not putting childbirth, if am successful will deal wt it at POE
How do I apply again on my existing account, wld ve preferred paper application if not for my USA interview in 2wks.
Who do I address my letter to cos d London visa office treated my application, shd I write back to dem or Lagos office.
Pls ur mail or mail me on chenonye96@yahoo.com let’s relate better.
