Travel / Re: My Monthly Savings In Canada by Hotstepper(f): 2:35am On Dec 02, 2018
grocery for a a family is more than 300 unless they dont have kids...me with 2 kids, i spend atleast 500 dollars a month nd thats only cuz i buy beef nd goat meat nd chicken from farm.nd store to last me average 3 nd half month. Then u have to buy fish oo. if kids r involved, clothings nd all plus some school trips etc.

where do u see csr insurance for 100?

salford1:

I think he wanted to type 1.2 million.

In addition to your contribution, for that amount using Ontario as an example with no OT, take home after tax, cpp and EI deductions would be around 27k.

Now let us work out some average figures:

- Rent: $1000 (A single person can save by living in shared apartment).
- Feeding: $150 (Would be around $300 for a family)
- Phone: $70
- Internet: $65
- Clothing and miscelleneous: $40
- Let say condo living, electricity: $60, else (Heating+ water+electricity = $200).
- Car insurance - $100 (if public transport, $100)
I have not included car finance and used a very conservative amount for insurance.

Adding all the amount not in brackets. Total/year equals :circa $18,000

27k minus 18k leaves around 9k per year.
9k per year equals like $750/month.

Lemme allow experts in this field to answer.

However I have question abi questions.

1. With a Masters degree and work permit nd having worked in Canada, why didnt u apply for PR as it would almost be automatic.

2. If you havent started, why didnt u start with wxprews entry as u have an upper hand.

[qquote author=MrsBMWM90 post=73363380]GOOD DAY All, our experienced people and professionals, thank you for your wonderful contributions and assistance. God bless you all. My issue is a little peculiar. I have a few questions. I intend to apply for a visitor visa for me and my 13mth old in order to give birth in canada. I am currently four months pregnant.
1) I am presently working but my salary and bank balance is minimal so my hubby would be sponsoring this trip. Please apart from the sponsorship letter he would write for us does he have to get a letter of introduction from his office stating that he works with them presently or does his employment letter suffice?
2) he has just 5million in his account would this be Ok? My aunty would be writing an invitation letter to state that she would be responsible for feeding and accommodation.
3) for me, unfortunately I work with the civil service and for now I can't get a letter of introduction can I use just my employment letter. Also I didn't change my surname yet in the civil service so it carries my unmarried name. Would this affect me after I submit my marraige certificate? Which was after I got employment with the state govt.
4) i was in canada for my masters from 2012-2013 and I was also given a postgraduate work permit which I used for about 2yrs plus before I came to Nigeria for reasons beyond my control at d time.I had a clean record. Does this help my cause?
Thank you I would appreciate your reply, I have already delayed so long but I decide to give it a try.

If they are in Nigeria, they will find out. u cannot cheat the system. If they file their income tax, are they going to claim 0? Also, if they have school age kids from 4, thats another thing.

Nigerians sha, na we dey do ourselves. u know u dont wanna libe abroad, why apply?

salsera:

Aha this maybe what's fueling refugee . If ppl get benefits whilst claiming asylum. Hmm.
A number of PR have moved back though I hope they know this clause and don't get themselves in trouble.
Those who moved back came because their lot was better in Nigeria so they are waiting for better work opportunities
Travel / Re: Giving Birth In Canada by Hotstepper(f): 6:42pm On Oct 18, 2018
Every month, the govt pays the parents of kids 18 yrs nd under what is called Child Benefit for the kids. Now, this amount each family gets depends on family income which is determined once u file for your mandatory yearly income tax. The lower the family income, the more you get which wont exceed 650 per child. Also, the age of the kids also depends how much each child will get as the younger the child is, the more his or her need. for example, new borns nd toddlers ...once the child turn 6, it reduces a bit. infact as of 5 yrs ago, they stopped at 6 but new govt came nd said let them continue till 18. Now what u use the money is up to the person and the money is paid to mothers or the primary care taker of the kids .

For the child to recieve it, one of the parents must reside in Canada as a refugee, PRa or permenent. If ypu are outaide the country nd they find out which thwy usually do for more than a period of time , u will have to pay bk what u recieved.

Mslala:

I was discussing with my friend who is a PR holder in Canada this weekend and she said she just learnt that the Canadian Government pays its citizens that are children $650 CAD monthly and that she was told of a Nigerian Lady (who gave birth to triplet and returned to Nigeria) that receives $1950 CAD monthly for her triplets from the Canadian Government. My friend confirmed that the Canadian Government pays her son who is not a Canadian citizen some money every month.

@Hotstepper, please is this accurate i.e. that Canadian Government pays its citizens that are children certain sums every month? Because this could be one of the immediate benefits that the VO was frowning at and referring to as an abuse of the system.

Thanks.

But the baby does not have those priviledges at birth unlike before. u will still need to pay for babys bed at the hospital nd health card will not be issued unless u or baby is a resident. other than that na from when the is grown nd live here .

I just believe it alll depends on the officer . If u still have ur US visa, head there. if I may ask, why did u decide to come to Canada this time?

Mslala:
@badoo, I think the problem is jus soli and not medical tourism per se. His major problem was that the baby will immediately be entitled to the privileges of Citizens upon birth. Other medical tourism (excluding child birth) do not confer this privilege so then they are fine with you using the hospital (funded by the government) and depriving a Canadian of that service.

@maternal, I had N6+ million in my account, and N7+ million in my pension account, facts he could have easily verified by contacting my bank and PFA if financial asset was truly an issue. Like I stated, he was clear that Canadians do not like jus soli and therefore he was going to refuse my application.

@hajidel, yes he was clearly biased and prejudiced, and unfortunately the review of visa applications are highly subjective to the views (liberal or conservative) of the visa officers reviewing them. That’s why an applicant can apply with the same facts and documents, and be refused initially by one visa officer and subsequently granted by another visa officer.

Has anyone disclosed childbirth solely (without any medical/health issue) as the reason for the visa application and received an approval?

Travel / Re: Giving Birth In Canada by Hotstepper(f): 1:27pm On Oct 03, 2018
He is just a sad human being period. Is he a Nigerian?
Yes, hospitals are funded by the govt but is that not why international patients pay for their own services themselves? Because its funded by the govt, thats why the govt stopped issuing Health Card to kids born by international patients at birth so they wont take advantage of those system until hey r old enough to live in the contry nd actually pay tax.

Mslala:
Hello Everyone.

So I have decided to share. I did an online application in August 2018, did my biometrics early September. I had read the full seventy-something pages and seen where border patrol officers had thanked the ladies for their honesty after disclosing they were pregnant so in my cover letter (LOE) I clearly stated that I wanted the visa for the purpose of child birth.

I have a good job, have sufficient funds in my account, pension account and other investments which I clearly demonstrated through my LOE. I am a lawyer so writing a detailed explanation letter (with accompanying supporting evidence) was not a problem for me. I also have good travel history and have valid U.S and U.K visas. I got the U.S visa for vacation purposes so I felt let me apply for a Canadian visa instead, fully disclosing my intentions.

I got an interview invitation (which rarely occurs for Canada visa applications) and wasn't too worried as I thought they required some clarification regarding my application. So I researched Nairaland again for Canada interview transcripts. The only one remotely close to this was the guy and his wife who applied for a Canadian visa after they were denied U.S visa (after a birthing trip) and were called on the phone, and the guy disclosed that they will also use the visa for child birth.

So I attended the interview (using questions from U.S transcripts for child birth such as why Canada? budget for the birth? etc.). We were about 3 people waiting at their Anifowoshe Office; an elderly couple (I don't know what they came for), a middle aged man who came to retrieve his passport to collect his U.K visa, and myself. I was given an appointment time but I was kept waiting for more than 1hr:30 mins.

Finally, the visa officer had my time and began his interview. He told me that he will decide the application there and then based on the documents I had submitted and the interview. After asking preliminary questions like how many kids do you have etc., he asked why do you want to travel to Canada? A little perplexed, I responded that I had clearly indicated this in the first paragraph of my LOE, that I wanted to travel to have my baby in Canada. Then he asked, how do you think the Canadians feel about this? I responded that I know that there are some concerns in some quarters about citizenship by birth, but generally the Canadians are all inclusive. Then he responded "No, the Canadians do not like it. You come and have a baby and immediately the baby gets all the privilege of citizenship. I tried to explain that I was being honest and fully disclosing my intention upfront....he interjected "so we should disregard the feelings of the Canadians because of that". Anyways he want on about how it is an abuse of the system and disregard of immigration laws. I clarified that my friend (who had sent a letter of invitation) and my gynaecologist had spoken to doctors in Canada who were willing to accept an international patient, and that I did not intend to abuse the system and will pay all my bills for the birth (as I did when I had my daughter in US). He responded that whether there were doctors willing to accept international patients and regardless of if I pay all my bills, I will still be using government's assistance because all hospitals, unlike those in the US, are funded by the government. He reiterated that Canadians do not like birthright citizenship and that he was going to deny my application and a refusal letter will be handed over to me.

So I waited at the reception for the letter and it stated that I was denied because I may not come back due to financial assets, purpose of travel etc. but he had already clearly stated the reason for the denial. Lol.

So perharps when applying, you may want to state medical tourism instead of child birth outrightly because according to the Visa Officer, Canadians do not like jus soli.

manlikegb:
Ladies and Gentlemen, big kudos to everyone who has shared informative details on here at one point or the other. Myself and spouse just returned from Canada about a week ago and I thought to share our birthing journey and experience to keep the info on here flowing. Sorry it may be a bit long.

ABOUT VISA APPLICATION: We submitted our TRV application(Renewing) before we found out that we don port so birthing was not mentioned in our application.

POINT OF ENTRY: Our point of entry experience was smooth. The automated machine didn’t work for either of our passports, so we just proceeded to the counter to inform the CBP officer and he said thats no problem. So he asked us random questions, I guess those were the questions we were supposed to answer on the machine initially.
Why are you in Canada today? Vacation and Childbirth
Have you contacted a Dr? Yes, we have an appointment scheduled.
How long will you be staying? 2months plus
Do you have any meat products? No
So he gave us this yellow card with a mark on it, and on our way out, we were directly to a room where they have another set of counters and a queue. I guess that's because of the mark on our card. Anyways, we got on the queue and waited till it was our turn. The officer we met with asked about the same questions and also asked how much we have on us. I told her and I asked she'd want to see, but she said no need. Took fingerprints and we were stamped in. Our bag of food was not even checked. I guess there were no concerns from their scans.

IN CANADA: We initially had an appointment with Dr Ayodele but for some reason, that didn’t work out as Brampton Civic stopped carrying out CS. He wanted to refer us to another Nigerian Dr in North York, but somehow we couldn’t reach an understanding and I don’t want to bore you all with that story.

Then it became very challenging to get another Dr, we made calls over calls and most would reject non OHIP or reject a 33wks gone patient or say they’re not taking new patients at the moment. Their system in Canada is somehow and most of these Doctor’s secretary are saucy.

Hospital: McKenzie Health(Richmond Hill)
Tests Done at LifeLabs: HbAIC, CBC, Prenatal AB, HIV, Prenatal Rubella, + Doc fee = 63cad
Scan: 95cad. He demanded to see baby scan.
Blood works at Hospital: 154cad (a day to admission)
Dr fees for CS: 2500cad
Anesthesiology services for Labour & Delivery: 1350cad in cash (Guess epidural is here)
Hospital fees Mother/night: 2600(cheapest ward of 4 patients)
Hospital fees Baby/night: 1300
CS fee: 875cad
Lots of petty tests with petty costs done after birth, not sure if this is general or peculiar to our own situation. Advice is, always budget above the fixed fees.

Baby check up after 3days: 30cad at a walk in clinic. Another check-up after a week for another 30cad. I’d say call a few walk in clinics and ask for their price then go with the one that is ok for you.

Birth Certificate(Long&Short)- 60cad (35+25) Took about a week
Passport- 107cad (express) Submitted Thursday, picked it up on Monday.

Infant ticket: Called Airfrance office in Canada and got it sorted at 126cad.

Naija Travel for Baby: 75usd. Did Visa On Arrival. It was stressful making payment on the site so I opted for the option to pay at Nigeria Airport which attracts an extra 20usd service charge. So Total = 95usd.
This page has all you need to sort VOA - https://immigration.gov.ng/visa-on-arrival/

My host was very helpful with antenatal and Hospital visits but we had to take uber a few times and it ranges from 150-160cad to and fro Brampton to Richmond Hill. Its true to always choose an hospital close to where you stay.

Lastly I want to say a very BIG thank you to @Hotstepper. She is as kind in person as she is on here. She even visited us and I really don’t know how to thank her enough. God bless you Sis.

I wish y’all a successful visa application and birthing experience as well.

It can also be cuz the Canadian govt as of March/April asked that thr US should screen well who they give Visa to in Nigeria cuz there were an influx of Nigerians with US visa in Canada in March/April as in alot.

Infanct, Canadian immigration Minister sent some immigration officers to Nigerian to teach their US counterparts how to get the job done and the minister himself also went to have a talk with the Nigerian Government.
