so was it medical visw u applied for or visiting visa.

So it means u wont be going to the province u got ur letter from

Oluwatise2016:
I will share my POE experience sometime this week.

Please guys note that my letter for regional health authority was from the authority itself (A cousin's friend works for the health authority in the province i wanted to go to) in the letter they listed the hospital that i intended to deliver. I attached the invoice for the hospital separate and also attached the letter from the health authority) The letter from the health authority just talks about the fact that i have consulted with a provider in the network specialized in obstetrics and gynecology and i will be settling the bill directly with them. There was no deposit or payment made.

They also mentioned the size of facility i planned to give birth and the average number of babies born there per week. I now suspect the reason this was mentioned was to show the embassy that i would not be inconveniencing a resident who plans to birth there.

Also note the letter stated that neither myself nor the new born will be using any provincial health insurance. Apparently this kind of letters are very difficult to obtain as you would need someone(resident or citizen) to do an affidavit and take it to the health authority.
Travel / Re: Giving Birth In Canada by Hotstepper(f): 6:07am On Jan 10, 2020
I earlier mentioned that this new policy of getting letter from authorities was a diplomatic way to end/reduce birthing cuz it is imposdible to get such letter.

I also said that those who cuz of recent development will apply for visit visa while preggy will be calles upon to ask questions nd/or request for preggy test done.

Now we r going to know wat happens to those who are not preggy wen visa was geanted and now want to use it for birthing.

Happy New Year everyone

I think u will get a better answer if you ask at Living in Canada nd Visiting Canada threads.

In my opinion, it will probably affect it but let us hear frok others But if u are already in a pool, why not stick to it nd add ur baby when u get invited, thus saving money of coming to have a baby in Canada.

I hope this helo.

I will ask around for u but where will u be landing nd staying cuz that will determine. u cannot live in Scarbrough nd ur midwife is in Mississauga.

Alternatively, once u get in, ur family dr will find one for u

Good day all,

Please I have a question. I recently got my application for Permanent Residence approved and I intend to land in Canada in February. My due date is in the first week of April and i won't have insurance cover then. Please does anyone know of any midwifery service I can access before delivery? All the ones I have contacted are full.
Travel / Re: Giving Birth In Canada by Hotstepper(f): 12:21pm On Dec 06, 2019
Na wah oo..Me i just feel the embassy dis this to kind of have more reasons to refuse people. if someone has paid hospital.and have more than enough fund to cover emergencies, why refuse again?

Bluefin:
Guys, I had a conversation with my sister in-law who is a surgeon in canada and when I told her what was going on with people applying for visas. She said if anyone is issued a visa after the correspondence the decision is not based solely on the receipt or whatever you attached.

Apparently a Canadian Health authority means the leader of the network for the hospital you plan to use. She said there are like just 9 networks in Ontario and she doesn’t think there’s any network leader that has time for something like that. And that infact if you go to the network they will probably say they consider residents first because they would not like a non resident to displace a resident of health care. (In terms of bed space and doctors availability)

She also mentioned that she suspects that hospitals are doing the self pay thing on their own and it’s not really something being discussed as a network.

She said it’s like going to a local government or state ministry of health in Nigeria to give you a letter that you will use a particular general hospital and that arrangements have been made for how the network will receive their funds.

She concluded by saying that a person will be very lucky to get the visa after they make the payment and this will not be why they got their visa. They will get the visa based on the normal circumstances they would have reviewed a visa application in addition to the funds that the person had to make such hospital payments.

Also I just noticed someone else in the visit thread got rejected even after full payment. You can go through that thread I think it’s the last page.
Travel / Re: Giving Birth In Canada by Hotstepper(f): 12:18pm On Dec 06, 2019
Hospital like this will never take intm.patients just like most in like sick kids etc down therw cuz they r mainly specialist hospitals and trust me, i bet no one can even afford it if theh r to take. someone's child was taken to sick.kids for example after birth cuz of breathing problem for a little over 2 weeks, her bill was 40kCAD. Those hospital in downtown md environs are for mainly serious cases etc

Bluefin:

The truth is that we can all say what we want to say. But there’s evidence there are some hospitals who have begun excluding international patients for the purpose of preventing a resident from being displaced. The hospital is not saying you cannot pay. They are saying capacity may be an issue if your care is non urgent. They specifically mention pregnancy. You can also google this topic as it appears to be hot in canada now.
Evidence: this article is precise and explains a lot and I invite everyone to please read it.
http://health.sunnybrook.ca/navigator/international-patients-what-care-cant-be-bought-at-the-hospital/

This is still the same for that hospital today as I had originally email to ask for quotes. Also please note that I never implied that someone who submits a receipt will not get a visa. I simply said it will not be solely based on that decision. After all the lady that was just denied was denied for ties to return back home and not financial situation.

Also note that the same applies to all the hospital as in that network. Like she said it is not solely based on being able to pay the hospital. It goes far beyond that. You should also have asked this lady who was approved what her profile is.

To add to this, I buy my kids clothes a year before. so for example, wen they did summer clearancr sale this summer, i bought summer clothes they will wear in summer 2020 at a give away pricrle. When winter sales comes up by March, I will buy winter things for 2020.

Even home items like soap, tissue that wont spoil, if i see them on very good sale, I buy alot and keep.

salford:
My values are average using Alberta and Sask as examples. Cost will vary for provinces and within cities in a province too. e.g rental may be cheaper in Red Deer compared to Calgary. Car Insurance will be cheaper in Winnipeg compared to Toronto.

Minimum Rent: Condo ($1000 and up), House ($1300 and up), sharing rooms - if you are single ($500 and up)
I aded "and up" because cheap housing will come with issues such as pests.

Car finance: $300 (Assuming the car is $18,000 and financed for 5 to 6 years). For starters, better to buy a small car outright.

Car Insurance: $150 (could be more or a little less depending on several factors. e.g premium or 3rd party, your postal code, parked in a garage or street, distance driven, used for Uber, age of driver, winter tires etc

Phone. (around 5 to 7gb): $80

Home Internet (no cable tv): $70

Water (if house): $80

Gas - Home heating (if house): $80

Electricity: $80 (if you love cooking, and also frequently use your oven and electric heaters in winter, then it will be higher)

Petrol: $200 (assuming you drive 20 to 30 min per day and you don't drive an SUV. if you do not have a car, Bus pass: $110)

Tenant Insurance: $20 (some landlords and housing agemcies will ask for it).

Bank fees: $10 and up

Single people can save lots of money if they decide to share. Bills like internet and electricity can be shared too.

if you intend to buy a house not long after landing:

You will have to consider the following additional costs:

Home insurance: $100

Property tax: $350 (condo fees is extra, but property tax for condos are generally lower)

House maintenance: $500 (This has been averaged over certain number of years), You can spend 0 in one year but can also spend $7k the following year.

Miscellaneous (some important and some are not)

Food: $150 per family member

Clothes: $30 per month (This has been averaged as well)

Entertainment/refreshments and eating out: $150

Gym: $50

Sports participation for those with kids: ($50 to $150)

Daycare: $1000 per kid for full-time

Personal care and Healthcare: ?

Amazon (people that love shopping): ?

Costs are monthly. I hope this helps someone or families preparing to land.

Others can add or subtract since this is just an opinion.

Did you include LOE?

Dsquare2017:
Long Post Alert!!
Sorry I’ve been so busy that I have not had time or strength to type up the rest of the journey. Our baby was born about 3 weeks ago. Thanks to Almighty God for the successful delivery. So here’s the rest of the story:
First, update on the lab test at doctor’s office is 55CAD extra for a vaginal swab test for which I got the invoice about a week after birth of our baby. So that brings the total lab test cost to 178CAD
Labor, Hospital, and Delivery:
So my wife got an early labor and baby on a Friday at 37 weeks 2 days. Went to hospital the next day morning only to be turned back in the afternoon because dilation was still 1cm. However, we were charged 650CAD for that visit by the hospital. Later that night labor got worse and we returned to hospital at about 10pm. My wife’s dilation was checked to be almost 3cm and they told us to wait until it’s 3cm. However we were advised to wait and be admitted to the labor room at 12am so we won’t have to pay for 2 nights (This was because, the baby has to be in the hospital for 24 complete hours before being discharged as Ontario law requires.) So were finally admitted 11:30pm on a Saturday and baby was born @ 5:17am on Sunday morning. (I was scared they’d charge us for the 30 minutes before 12am, but when I spoke to them in accounts the following Monday morning, they were understanding, and we only paid for one night.) We were discharged on Monday morning since the 24hrs ended at 5:17am on Monday morning. We used an Epidural which cost us 1,100CAD and it covers as many epidurals as required until birth (it’s non-negotiable as the doctor did not reduce it even when we tried to negotiate. However, I heard the cost of the epidural differ from anesthesiologist to anesthesiologist and could be anywhere from 500CAD to 1200CAD depending on whoever’s on duty)
Hospital bill for one night was 3505CAD(which we had paid earlier) and that included mother and baby, lab tests, drugs, food (for mother and baby if the mother cannot breastfeed), diapers, maternity pads, disposable panties for mother, and accommodation for support person (a collapsible chair in the labor room as well as the mother and baby room).
First pediatric visit was 3 days after birth. We were given a list of Humber river pediatricians and we used the one closest to us. The guy charged 300CAD for first visit and said subsequent visit is 200CAD. After first visit we were supposed to return a week later. However, for some reason we were not comfortable with the price. So we researched about other pediatricians not connected with Humber river hospital. We found Kidscrew children clinic. We were charged 80 dollars for Pediatric visit at Kidscrew. We regretted going to the first guy anyway. But at least thank God the joy of delivery was greater than the regret of spending.
Birth Certificate, Ticket, and Passports Application
Birth certificate was applied for online through service Ontario. Cost 25CAD and was approved the next day. Received it at my address through Canada post 1 week after approval.
Baby ticket was 216CAD with Lufthansa airline. Bassinet seat cost extra 77CAD. Both were obtained over the phone with airline desk and new ticket was sent to my email. (Note that flight ticket with baby’s name showing on it is required to get and urgent or express passport)
Canadian passport was applied for after baby got her passport photograph (20CAD for 4 copies). I wanted to go with the no guarantor option which requires filling a form that shows information about you within the last five years including addresses, and jobs. Then 2 referees which can be reached by the phone numbers you provide. Also, the form must be signed at a notary public office which would cost 78CAD since he will be serving as your guarantor. (Notary public office is less than a minute walk from the downtown passport office I went to. However, I had no need to use the notary public office anymore because I was able to contact a friend whom I thought was not even in the country. Fortunately, she had returned, and she signed as guarantor for me. Passport application and express delivery cost 107CAD. They said I did not qualify for urgent service since I’m not travelling within 2 weeks. So I was given express service and told to come the next 2 business days. Went there and got my baby’s passport
Instead of applying for a Nigerian emergency travel certificate, we decided to apply for a Nigerian passport since we had time and we figured it will be more difficult to get the baby a passport in Nigeria(they don’t even have passport booklet) The Nigerian passport office was in Ottawa. But application has to be made online and payment has to be done online as well (77USD). Printed out all the required documents and got on our way to Ottawa as baby has to be present in person at Ottawa for photograph. Left Toronto on a Monday afternoon, got to Ottawa on a Monday evening and went to passport office on Tuesday morning. (Note that after filling the application online already, appointment was given to come to the Ottawa office 10 days later, however, we went there the next day following the advice I was given when I called the office to come whenever it’s convenient for me). Got to the office on Tuesday morning and submitted the application documents. Got the passport in the afternoon and got on our way back to Toronto the next day.
So all we do now is sit and wait for our flight to return home and hopefully we should not encounter any challenges all through. The God who has started this has brought it to completion. We are just nothing but grateful.

He was going to use 2 references for passport application since he didnt know.a Canadian eho can stand for that but then his friend returned in the country so he did not have to do use the references again.

If your husband is not present, when u submit the application, u will.be given a document no to give him and he will have to go to canadian embassy with his International pasaport to sign.

In this case, he is present with his wife from beginning to the end and had plenty of time too unlikr some people who wants to book.return flight 2 weeks after birth thinking everythibg will be ready.

U made a good point really and have said before on here that its good to have diff drs nd hospital so 1 or 2 will not be flooded buy our people do not likr to do research on matters that is important to them.

I wish you the very best and good luck

Semisolasola:
I have given those who I can give
People should also do their research and not flood this one hosp
These are the kind of lapses they are avoiding.
By the time almost ten people submit using same Hosp ,same period..does it make sense?i did my research,I slept on google day and night, sending mails even to addy that I know has nothing do with such info that I needed from the Hosp.i sent some Hosp twitter messages.make everyone go research abeg

I honestly pray this works nd not after paying, they will still deny someone as that wont be funny.

7500 is still not enough if say bbay goes inyl NICU as has been happening often now. One was billed 40k dollars nd she just begged them for a payment plan which they told her ok 500 dollars a month.

Now, I think they will also be looking at available fund in case of emergency. In all, I hope for the best for all

Semisolasola:
For the embassy to even demand these things when they can outrightly refuse the applicant shows the embassy is just trying its hand on the best methods of issuing this kind of visas and as for tourist been asked to show if they are preg we all can see how Majority conceal this info,go to Canada and birth with little or no cash.some will leave the country owing the Hosp
All this are pretty normal to me tho

Semisolasola:
Yes I paid 7500 to a hospital as deposit:.it makes more sense to me this way than the whole doc correspondence..deal directly with a hospital with a well detailed quotes not just getting doctors phone Num ,time and date

Candybright:
Some hospitals do take payment from international patients before arrival. $5000-$10,000 thereabout. So I think the problem will be for people looking for cheap bills. Just get ready to pay with $8000 thereabout for Vaginal birth and ofcourse higher for CS

I think you send it via email

How do you upload an additional document on the online portal? For instance, those that were asked to provide proof from a competent health authority, Can they upload it or just reply the mail and wait?
Travel / Re: Giving Birth In Canada by Hotstepper(f): 8:53pm On Nov 24, 2019
Since people come and do not pay bills esp.wen their baby has to remain in thr hospital for extended period of time, thus accumlating more money that people cannot pay.

The embassy now wants people to pay 1st ( even though baby might still need extra attention) but the koko with the health system is that no hospital will takr payment from any patient that is not in the.country. In essence, I think it is the end of birth tourism in Canada.

There is also the trend now that people who applied for tourist visa are being called and asked if they are preggy nd go for test.

I thought i should just say my thoughtd here cuz I am sure more people will find their way here to be ask same question.

If anybody has more stuff to add, feel free

passionup:
Hello all, good day
There have been an upsurge from the embassy demanding for proof from a competent Canadian Health Authority that formal arrangements have been made to provide payment for health services related to the birth in medical Visa applications. What is this all about and what does it entail . Who has even submitted something and gotten a positive response. I would love people that are in this stage to kindly respond. Thank you

@hotstepper is this not considered as public benefit? Just be careful to have evidence of paying the practitioner you use so that it wont come and bite you in the back. You are a visitor and should not be getting health benefit if you do not pay for it.

I just checked how much I spent from January till date on buying Tim Hortons (double double) and timbits... I realized I have spent close to $500. At least $2 5 times a week on coffee and timbits.

Please who is on this table with me and how can we break this addiction? That old fashion timbits by Tim Hortons is the biggest weakness I have at the moment. Everywhere you go in Canada, Tim Hortons all up in your face.

Thank God I don’t smoke or do alcohol, if not ehn, na only God know how much those ones for Dey take as well.

Happy Sunday.
