PoliticsRe: Ahmad Lawan: Nigeria's Security Architecture Has Failed, Needs Restructuring by Hottdawgg: 3:04am On Jan 28, 2020
valentineuwakwe:
The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on Monday reviewed the current security architecture of the country and demanded an urgent restructuring to make a way for intervention from other tiers of government .
Lawan, in an interview with journalists in Abuja , also welcomed the recent regional and states initiatives to tackle the unfortunate security challenges in the country .
He said the Senate would summon the heads of the various security agencies in the country as soon as plenary resumes this week to work out a realistic arrangement that could adequately tackle the menace.
Asked to state his position on the regional intervention by governors to tackle insecurity , Lawan said it was a good idea.
He said , “All hands must be on deck . The Federal, states and local governments . More importantly, citizens must be involved. This is because wherever you see security improving, that means the citizens are playing their roles very well .
"The onus lies largely on government . So, we are going to work with the executive arm of government in this regard.
"We would engage the security agencies to find out why the security is deteriorating in many parts of the country.
" We have had series of engagement before but the escalation now has made it mandatory that we need a definite position as a government because we just cannot play politics with security issues.
"Lives are at stake here . Therefore the Senate will take a position on how security in the country should be. We believe that the security architecture should be restructured . The present system does not give us the type of outcome that we need.
"Whether it is the federal , state or local government ; Even the traditional rulers or others, the most important thing is to secure the lives and property of Nigerians and we would do that.
"The most important thing is to look into the issue of security that is bedeviling this country.
"Apparently and obviously , all hands must be on deck to ensure that we bring back a better security situation that we had before . Presently the story is not good. In many areas we have so much happening that is destabilising our communities and killing of people.

"We believe that we owe Nigerians , the responsibility to intervene and work together with the executive arm of government , actually to work together with other tiers of government - the states and even the local governments .
"We should ensure that we change the way we approach the security issues in this country. Apparently the system has not been working efficiently and effectively and we have to do something.
"This time around there should not be buck passing , we have to be forthright . We have to say it as it is and we have to do it as it is required "

If you claim custom officials are corrupt, there is no doubt that is why the government had to shut the borders but to claim customs has not improved is a deadly lie from the pit of hell, we have witnessed improvement in duties collection and overall revenue generation from customs. But much has to be done in ending corruption by customs officials.
So giving a man 1.6bn Naira to recruit 3200 people is your hallmark of accountability in the new Customs?

CareerRe: Retirement In Nigeria: How Much Does One Need To Have? by Hottdawgg: 3:10pm On Nov 10, 2019
favinvest:
My simple financial retirement plan are:-

(1) try as much as possible to be liquid.. and avoid investments that will give headache & heartache during old age.. so investment like rent is out ( nor fit dey go draw house rent); non dividend paying stocks out. Buying land to sell ( I nor get power for omolile wahala)

(2) I will focus more on T.bills, dividends paying stocks, annuities & profits from my business

(3) I will avoid lagos like mad.. if I want to stay in lagos, then the suburb is where I will live. Where I will get goods and services at a very discounted rate. Imagine having an house help at these area, 15-20k per mth, they will over work for u.

(4) i will have an health insurance

So income wise, 150k- 200k is enough for a couple in the suburbs area. That should b like 24M in t.bills by 65yrs old ( cos I believe 60yrs is too early for retirement age).

While have an annual dividend of min.50k-100k.

Lastly, try to be a people's person at that age and u will never lack & b lonely...

Imagine being a community leader, pastor, deacon etc.. the younger people will b taking care of some of ur basic needs that require money by default
This analysis will help those retiring today . But 10-15 yrs down the road u will have to multiply figures by 5 at the very least. To put things in perspective, compare your status and living expenses today and the way you lived 10yrs ago.

No one has mentioned the pension funds.
Pension fund is good where the currency is reasonably stable, laws are strong and can be enforced, manageable or no corruption. In Nigeria where non of these is applicable, you are throwing money into a bottomless pit with pension funds.

You seem not to understand my point. Okay, let's put it this way: some can afford to finance/have these things with a 100k and others more...
I think I got you alright but I am talking about ideal retirement conditions. You can retire to an apartment where u pay 5k per mth and 20k on feeding to keep costs down. Is it possible? Yes but it is certainly not ideal. Like the other fellow said (and I agree) 100k today could be that 20k a few years down the road on account of inflation.

Juliearth:
One may have 100,000 naira and be very comfortable. Another may have 100,000,000and still be uncomfortable. So it boils down to one's lifestyle.
In retirement every man needs a good wife, a good car, eat well, serene decent preferably spacious accommodation, fuel your gen, once a year or 2yrly vacation, fukc the occasional random arsse and be happy.

We are talking about an ideal retirement not one you endure having suffered your whole life.
CareerRe: Retirement In Nigeria: How Much Does One Need To Have? by Hottdawgg: 8:36am On Nov 10, 2019
DameB:
30-50 million naira will maintain a modest lifestyle

Due to inflation and uncertainty in future policies, it's best to not to just save a particular sum of money and hope to live off of it for the rest of one's life.

1) Invest in rented commercial properties and residential properties , also event halls.
(This is the most expensive on the list)
If by retirement you don't have a house but you have money, buy a plot of land below 1M, build a simple 2-3bd that will cost below 6M (nothing lavish)

2) Drop some money in a money markets account with one of the financial banks so it can yield 12-15% interest p.a

3) Get good health insurance plan cos sickness can empty all you save if you are not insured

4) Adopt a healthy lifestyle- worry less, be positive, eat healthy, sleep well, exercise often. What's the point of early retirement if you don't have the physical body to enjoy it

5) Buy an annuity plan from an insurance company or a programmed withdrawal plan from a pension fund company- let them worry about investing and maintaining the funds you invest with them.

6) Guide your kids to be financially responsible so that they wouldn't depend on you financially and won't be planning your early death
50m may look decent, but u might blow this in 5yrs. U will need a new car, buy diesel for the Gen, maintain or possibly replace the Gen. Family and Social obligations. Pray your children are able to support themselves.

Indeed Nigeria is a costly place to live in like some one said. I wonder how far a home with 50m in Ghana will take you.

Good evening all!

As an update on my Complaints to Home Office against the reasons for my refusal, I sent out the mail on Sept 19. So last week while I was out of the country on official assignment, "an oyinbo person" called my organization and my colleague that picked the call, disclosed that she was asked details about my position, number of years I had worked at the organization and my salary.

All the info she provided corresponded to the details I had earlier provided in my application except for the salary, which she told the person, she doesn't have access to such information. The office line is designed in such a way that any staff can pick incoming calls

Moving forward, 2 days ago, I got this generic message from:

Monday (2 days ago)

Dear ....

Thank you for your email correspondence of 19 September where you have raised a complaint about the refusal of your Entry Clearance application.

We apologize for the error you have identified in the original refusal notice. An updated decision notice has been sent to you.

The onus in on visa applicants to demonstrate their circumstances are as claimed. There is no obligation upon decision makers to verify employment along the lines suggested by you in your complaint.

Moreover, at no point does the refusal notice challenge your employment as claimed or that you do not have sufficient funds available to cover the expenses of the proposed visit. Employment was not an area of concern and therefore the Decision Maker did not need to make any checks. (But note that they called my office oo)

If you can address the concerns raised in the refusal notice, it is open to you to make a new application which will be assessed on its merits.

I apologise for any inconvenience caused to you in this matter but I am unable to uphold your complaint.

I believe I have addressed all the points you have raised. (My other complaint on the miscalculation of my planned expenditure and monthly income was not addressed). However if you feel that there are specific aspects that have not been addressed you can request a review of our response within one month of the date on this letter.

I really dont understand how to proceed cos it seems there is a gap between the first mail I got on Monday and today's mail from Home Office. I have attached the refusal letter and the complaint letter I sent to HO for aid our delibrations @justwise and others please help
First all I have to admit my complete novice status in all these. However when a request is made on how much you intend to spend they want to know the cost of your return ticket, accommodation, and the amount u intend to spend on feeding, not just the 200k u planned to spend on shopping . It appears the eco made her own deductions and decided it will be as much as 4-5x your monthly income. But then again we have no way of knowing since it was not explicitly stated probably because they think most refusals are not appealed. In the circumstances you can milk the refusal letter for all that it's worth. Good luck. Keep us posted

akinblog:
Theresa Buchanan, the magistrate handling the criminal matter, subsequently granted Mr. Okeke "Invictus Obi" permission to see a dentist during the hearing on August 7. She, however, insisted that the doctor must attend to the suspect in custody.

It was unclear how long Mr Okeke had been having issues with his teeth. He was arrested in the U.S. on August 6, just before he was scheduled to return to Nigeria, and arraigned the next day.

The F.B.I. had investigated Mr Okeke, widely known in Nigeria as Invictus Obi, and found that he was involved in online fraudulent activities that had fetched him millions of American dollars in recent years. His arrest sent shockwaves across Nigeria’s social media and blogosphere, having been previously profiled by several local and international media outlets as a model for shrewd business acumen for young people.

A dismissed soldier, Lance Corporal Khalid Mohammed, has been arrested by men of Kaduna state Police Command for Armed robbery.

The suspect, who was paraded before the media along side 78 others by Kaduna state Commisioner of police, Ali Aji Janga in Rijana on Wednesday, said he was dismissed from the Army because he shot his then Guard Commander.

The father of two said he was arrested after robbing an apartment on Upper Volta road, Malali, Kaduna. He disclosed that he has been into armed robbery since 2006 before the long hand of the law caught up with him.

The suspect, who is a resident of Malali in Kaduna North said, he regretted his actions and promised to turn a new leaf. He however said he will accept any punishment melted out to him for his criminal actions because he deserves it.

I used to think this is a religious cult, but after watching their propaganda videos and seeing their military stance and profile, it's safe to conclude that the FG did the right thing by curtailing their activities. This is a clear and present danger that the FG must nip in the bud ASAP.

Their parades are well organized professionally structured with tall and well-built members with obvious strong military training, even the women are not left out.

This is more than a religious cult/

This is definitely not a religion, this looks more like a state within a state and a non-state military outfit within Nigeria.
A non state military outfit indeed. Do you expect them them to put the AK47 and the RPGs on display? I think not. If they don't already have Iran will supply this overnight.
