The Government of Imo State, through the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Urban Planning and the Imo Geographic Information Agency (IGIA), has commenced the Re-certification of Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) for all titled landed property in Imo State. The Re-certification exercise is mandatory for land owners with valid Statutory land titles and will last for a period of three (3) months, ending on March 31st, 2014.

The new C-of-O is computer-generated and bears several security features including the photograph of the land owner, all of which ensures a secure, “bankable” land title document that will be readily accepted as by any Financial Institution as security or collateral for bank facilities and other transactions.

IGIA’s recertification exercise will unlock the economic potentials that have been hitherto tied up in the land titles of Imolites, while paving the way for subsequent new registration and regularization exercises in respect of plots of land without Statutory C-of-O’s and plots of land with Customary C-of-O’s respectively.
