Prof Corruption: Who has prosecutory powers? If you don't take case to court, how is it the problem of judiciary? Who appoints Director of public prosecution? Who controls the police, SSS? The executive is responsible for prosecution. Infact, AGF can take over a case completely.

That both Lawan and Otedola have not been charged is a big shame to Jonathan administration.

Billyonaire: Its easy to blame GEJ for all the ills going on in the judiciary, aint it ? So GEJ should go against the constitutional guidelines of Rule of Law and Independence of the Judiciary ? Sometimes it pays to invest just 500 naira in a copy of The Constitution.

What nonsense are u talking about? Do u even have a rudimentary knowledge of the criminal justice system in Nigeria? How is this not the fault of the President. The AGF is the chief law officer of the country and only him can bring charges for crimes against the federal government. Now who appoints the AGF and who is he answerable to? Your attempt to distance GEJ from the lack of prosecution of these crooks is ridiculously anaemic to say the least. The AGF is his appointee and directly answerable to him. If GEJ really intends to press charges against Otedola and Farouk, will Adoke dare to say no?
I see u advising someone to invest in a constitution. U are either ignorant of its contents or u are such being mischeviously suppressionist of facts. Your blind adulation of a failed president whose modus operandi is buck-passing is sickening!

Billyonaire: World and hypocrisy, so USA have right to own nuclear weapons, Israel has nuclear weapons but Iran can not ? This coming war, we should not underrate anyone, revolution was not expected but it happened, American needs to thread carefully,,,Israel has no right to control the whitehouse.

Common sense would have answered all your questions. The civilised world is against Iran acquiring nuclear weapons due to its terrorist antecedents and fundamentalist inclinations. Nobody arms a mad man with a nuke. This has got nothing to do with religious sentiments, the future of humanity is at stake. With the volatility in the middle east, arming Iran with nukes will inexplicably make such technology accessible on the black market. One is loath to consider the far reaching implications of the above scenario. The world was able to pull back from the brink of nuclear war during the Cuban Missile crisis because both Russia and the USA chose to look at the big picture which is the effect of nuclear war on mankind. A man who will blow himself up to make a statement has no time to take such humanist approaches. Ahmadinejad's govt is fundamentally anti-semitic and anti-west and letting him arm himself with nukes portend grave danger to Isreal and by extension, the USA. I'm with the use of gut wrenching sanctions against Iran to deter its nuclear program. If that fails to work, then I say the US, Britain, Germany and of course Israel combine and blow the the racist motherfvckers off the face of the civilization. The world will be a better place without a nuclear-armed Iran.

Politics / Re: Otedola Sues Tambuwal, Lawan For N250 Billion Damages by Hugoboi(m): 7:44am On Nov 09, 2012
Otedola's N250 billion suit against Farouk and Tambuwal lacks merit and will be dismissed for the following reason(s)

1. Damages for business losses fall under the realm of special damages which must be proven by strict and credible evidence. It is not enough in law to just assert "business losses", one must show such losses by credible evidence before the court can award same. I don't see how Otedola intends to manufacture such proof.

2. The bare essence of this matter is against the intended re-enlistment of his company among those indicted. For God's sake, one cannot invoke the coercive powers of a court against a statutorily established body carrying out it statutory duty. The Nass is empowered to investigate fuel subsidy and make recommendations on entities found to be wanting. No court worth its salt will interfere with that function.

3. Otedola's action is merely diversionary and a cheap attempt to shore up his image. It is not out of place to see crooks run to court so as to divert the public attention and curry sympathy in instances where their guilt is umimpeacheable. If otedola had a genuine case, he should have sued the whole committee that did the work and not single out Tambuwal and Farouk. This suit stinks

The above is my candid view as a lawyer.

Billyonaire: I am disappointed in Nihi Ribadu. The FGN set up a committee and appointed him to head it,I am shocked that he has not even submitted the report to the FGN before sending to the press. If he has concluded the findings, the sane thing to do is tender the resolution to the FGN and NOT to the press before the Presidency. It is the job of the Government to release information to the press and not the responsibility of Ribadu, this is criminal espionage, and abuse of state resources with wanton recklessness. I am disappointed beyond words, Ribadu needs to tell us which report is flying around, if its the real deal, then there is punishment for leak of state information without necessary going through the FOI acts after due submission and scrutiny of the government, he must be made to face repercussions. Government knew something was wrong before the committee was set up, and Government trusted an opposition political contender and on his credentials to be without bias with the results. Can he do that in China or USA ?

I didn't expect anything less from u, Mr Billyonaire. Knowing GEJ's antecedent for corruption, did u expect Ribadu to hand in his report only to see an entirely different report hit the press? Ribadu is a seasoned cop and took precautionary measures by leaking this document to the foreign press. This will ensure that any plans to release a watered version by the FG goes up in smoke. Ur arguments that Ribadu should be punished holds no water. First there's no proof that he actually leaked anything and u obviously are at a loss as to what constitutes state secrets here. Kudos to Ribadu for beating this corrupt govt at their own game. I bet GEJ will be regretting giving Ribadu that job. Thieving scum!

@ the actual topic, both unicameral and bicameral legislatures have their advantages:

http://mirror.undp.org/magnet/Docs/parliaments/Legislative%20Chambers.htm

In light of the above, I think a unicameral system would actually be better in Nigeria's case. I think the advantages of having only one chamber would be more useful than the advantages of having two at the present time.

The Unicameral system will never work in a tribally heterogenous state like Nigeria. At least not without scrapping the "federal" system of government based on the fraud called the 1999 Constitution. Calling for abolition of the Senate without first dealing with the constitution amounts to standing logic on its head. We should first deal with the basic grundorm governing the existence of Nigeria as a nation before moving on to its component units.

With so much vitriol and anti Tinubu/ACN rhetoric, I don't think you really care if the man made sense or not. You are your own worst enemy.

NEXT...

The issue isn't whether he made sense or not. The issue lies in his motives and I daresay they are suspect.

With regards to the sense in his statement, I frankly don't see any. Every nation in the mordern world needs a law making institution and I don't see how Nigeria's case should be different. Nigeria operates a constitutionally enshrined Federal system of govt and such requires a bicameral legislature. The legitimacy of such a system of govt as it applies to a multi tribal nation like Nigeria is an argument for another day. Calling for an outright abolition of a statutory body like the Senate amounts to bare faced ignorance of the workings of government.

My point is that Tinubu is a public figure who ought to have competent advisers. Such a comment is ridiculous to say the least. Every organ of govt even in the most advanced countries has problems. U don't see americans ask that the US Marines be abolished cos their soldiers are involved in abusing prisoners of war.

Rather than making such a populist statement, Tinubu should be talking about how to sanitize the Senate and weed out the bad eggs giving it a bad name with a view to moving the Nation forward.

Politics / Re: Tinubu Calls For The Abolition Of The Senate by Hugoboi(m): 11:36pm On Sep 20, 2012
As far I'm concerned, Tinubu's call for the abolition of the Senate is self-serving. Any unbiased follower of politics in Nigeria will see that the Nigerian problem is not the Senate but the Senators who have abdicated their responsiblities in pursuit of self enrichment. The legislature, of all arms of government should be the epitome of fiscal responsility but the Nigerian version has become a breeding ground for gangsters of all calling. Abolishing the Senate will be akin to throwing away the baby with the bath water. Highers standards for election into the legislature should be more stringent than what obtains today. As far as I'm concerned, certain individuals have no business being in the senate. How can one fanthom a scenario where a senator has no rudimentary knowledge of lawmaking, sits in the chamber for 8 years and does not sponsor a single bill. That is ridiculous to say the least.

As per the ACN brouhaha, I've consistently said it that both ACN and PDP are two fingers of the same leprous hand. The fact that Nigerians are fed up of PDP and its shenanigans since 1999 does not in any way grant the Tinubu and his ACN messiah status. A huge chunk of ACN members esp in the SE and SS were all disgrutled PDP cast outs and I'm forced to see the ACN as a better alternative? HELL NO!! I frankly beg to differ. As far as I'm concerned, Tinubu is building his own army and if the ACN peradventure takes over the presidency, Nigeria will be worse for it.

Regarding Japanese Generals go and read what happened to Chuichi Nagumo and other Japanese generals

Now tell us those Generals you know in war history who abandoned their army and people and fled We are waiting

Field Marshall Erwin Rommel was forced by Hitler to commit suicide after he was implicated in a failed plot to assasinate him by Nazi revolunaries
It had nothing to do with his troops or their performance in the battle field.
As for the Japanese Generals, Kamikaze was a well known military doctrine in Japan. That doesn't make them heroes. Matter of fact, name one Japanese General who was established as a hero in WW2. Lemme take a wild guess...None!!! General George S Patton of the United States Ninth Army was soundly beaten in the Battle of Bastogne by the Nazis in WW2, he never committed suicide and is one of the most reverred generals in modern history. Same goes for Gen. Omar Bradley.

Dude ur argument is totally anemic. You know absolutely nothing about the history of warfare so shut ur bigoted mouth.
Akintola was a civilian who died trying to defend himself against the coup plotters who came to kill him on Jan 15th, 1966. How does that make him a hero?

Mr Everest: LOL, apparently you dont understand the sentiment and intrigues that happened then, there was a general feeling that the SW had been short-changed by the annulment of the election that was thought to have been won by Abiola, the NADECO and OPC were agitating and in order to calm frayed nerves IBB in conivance with Abdusalami and the Langtang mafia decided to pull their weight behind OBJ using state resources to sponsor him, now they hoped to achieve two things .1. Assuage the SW .2. Enthrone a maleable and unambitious person who they can control from behind and OBJ fit into their picture based on his anticidents (he ruled breifly and handed over to Shagari in 1979 when he could as well have continued or even hand over to Awolowo his kinsman) though this permutation later backfired. This was why a more popular Ekwueme lost at the primaries. Dont forget that the Yorubas sentimentally rejected OBJ in 1999 in preferance to Falae and yet he still won the election. If you are a political neophyte you can ask Falana to expatiate this for you.

Well said!!! Nothing can be closer to the truth. Need I add that the fact that OBJ was an ex soldier also swung the tide in his favour. The cabal of ex-generals who ran Nigeria weren't just gonna sit back and hand the reins of the country to a "bloody" civilian and an Igbo one at that.

the japanese were known for it They would rather commit suicide than run away leaving children and women to die.

WHat happened to the German leaders in WW2. They would rather commit suicide when they could as well flee

Its a fundamental difference between cowards and leaders

Cowards would rather run to Abidjan

Another meaningless post. Since when did "Kamikaze" become a positive military strategy? Even wartime greats like Germany's Erwin Rommel retreated with his Afrka Corps when he was soundly beaten by Montegomery led British Army in North Africa during WW2. Don't say things u know absolutely zilch about. German's leaders who committed suicide when they were over-ran by the Allied troops were civilians and never soldiers. Hitler's miliitary strategists like Admiral Karl Donitz were caught and faced trial at Nuremberg, Cowards like Hitler, Goebbells and Bormann took their own lives. Before u run ur trap giving me German and Japanese examples, Igbos fought a war of survival just like the Vietcong in the Vietnam war while the Nazi's and Japs were the aggressors in WW2. There's a fundamental difference. Next time u wanna denigrate the Igbo race using historical facts, be sure to do ur research so u don't repeat the bare-faced ignorance exhibited in ur quotes above.
