andrew444: What does the bolded got to do with football? (The US passport is one of the best in the world)
Because the USA passport is one of the best in the world , does that making their national team one of the best in the world?
The guy father is american so he is also american, but i can bet that he cant make the dutch team at the moment thats why he decided to play for the US for Dest to make mention of it...it means he considers it too while thinking on both nations. you think this players only considers football when making this final choice.... didn't you read the huddersfied guy reason why he won't have opt for Nigeria...because he doesn't feel it, he don't even know how the country look like unlike the Anglo Nigerians... this dudes are already feeling and living Nigeria while I'm the UK since birth hood.... they have learnt and come to know some certain rich and proud assets of the country, that possible will also influence their decision. players think beyond football in this case most times |

TheSuperNerd: Actually some may miss the hidden message in my post. The USA-Holland scenario can be likened along prestige lines to Nigeria-England scenario.
Holland is bigger team in football than USA. Fact. Dutch players command great value in the market today. Fact. Dutch NT players are very marketable too. Another fact.
USA obviously has value especially for their American companies but is no bigger or better football nation than Hollamd. Not even close.
Plus Dest could easily be starting for Holland over Dumfries. Or at the very worst be in with a shout of some game time while he battles Dumfries for the right to be #1 RB for the Oranje.
Yet inspite of all these... Dest chose USA. The nation of his Dad who is Surinamese-American.
#Selah
In the end... It is all a choice. In Dest's case, he went for the less fanciful option in USA and he feels good about it and a starting place is an absolute guarantee for him.
I await Ebere Eze's final decision. Go for England, obviously the more attractive option and battle it out with Maddison, Mount, Barkley, Alli and Grealish. Or pick Nigeria, a less attractive option but with guarantee of playing time as only Iwobi is your real natural competition.
In the end... It is all a choice but like Dest, let their choices be genuine and not guided by where they are at the moment in their club careers. Let them not use the mentality of picking us when they are at Wycombe and picking England when at Chelsea. Irrespective of what their club statuses are, let their choices be their real choices.
Dest is an Ajax starter and that is a ticket to NT football for Holland but the lad was not swayed. He wanted USA all along especially as he grew more fond of his American roots. This is a lesson. so much wisdom in this epistle...thank you |

andrew444: The US is a proud nation but not when it comes to football sir
I am speaking of football oo, am not speaking of others things bro, dont speak about the power of the US passport when it comes to football
A player will be proud to play football for the brazillian national team that the US, but when it comes to others things almost all will be proud to hold the US passport
Bros US no get level when it comes to football 8 Oct, 2019 ESPN "When I thought of football when I was younger, it was always Ajax or the Dutch team," Dest said in an interview with U.S. club teammateAlex Mendez, published on the Ajax website. "Never the U.S. But I haven't been approached by the Dutch team." Asked whether not being contacted by the Netherlands had been a factor in his decision, he added: "Maybe." Dest grew up in the Netherlands to a Dutch mother and American father. However, Dutch has always been his first language and Dest said it was only when he visited the U.S. that he began to embrace his American heritage. "My father is from Brooklyn, but we spoke Dutch at home," Dest said. "Actually, until a few years ago, my English was very poor. "I wasn't thinking of my American roots at all until I went to play in an American youth team. From that moment, my English improved, and I started to feel more American. "I realised that: 'Hey, this is my nationality, too.' Now I think it's great to be an American as well. It's an asset and as well. The U.S. passport is one of the best in the world." Serginho Dest |

There is always the temptation to choose England when your career is on the up... While Nigeria is settled for when it looks like you are just getting along in your career as a player of dual nationalities.
In the end, I hope Eze comes home. If not, nothing more than to wish him well. kellycute: Any info about Eze invitation for afcon qualifier? NFF Assures Ebere Eze in Super Eagles Plans 26 Oct. 2019
In form Queens Park Rangers forward Ebere Eze will get an invitation into the Super Eagles at the right time , this is according to a top Nigeria Football Federation official.Eze has been in terrific form for the England Championship side so far this season and scoring couple of goals as well. However the English youth international is now appear to be on radar of Nigeria Football Federation, having linked up with the Africans sometimes in the past. Nigeria Football Federation official who pleaded anonymity revealed that , the player is under the watch list of Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr and urged him to maintain his impressive form in the Championship. “Yes Ebere Eze is doing very well for Queens Park Rangers (QPR) in the Championship in England and it’s good news for us. “Besides, he has come to the Super Eagles camp before when we went to play in London. “Our scout knows him very well. Nigerians should not be too anxious and put him under undue pressure.” “There is always space for a good player in a team, most especially like the team we are building at the moment. So the scouts are monitoring him, he’s known to us and we see how it goes. “But you know a lot of young players have come into the team of late and it’s an ongoing thing. “If you are good enough and you can bring something extraordinary to the team, we can always give you a chance. “So we are very happy that Ebere Eze is doing well and believe that at the right time he will be giving the chance to play for the Super Eagles.” He said. https://www.footballlive.ng/nff-assures-ebere-eze-in-super-eagles-plans/ |

komekn: This may be true.
But that doesn't mean to say that these deductions are without substance.
Look at a number of our players who claimed U16 in 2009 and you notice very little change. Shockingly some of them passed MRI at the time.
Go and look at Iwobi at U16 and look at him now there is clear and obvious difference in the way he look facial skeletal and otherwise.
What is annoying is the hypocrisy we all know that age cheating is rampant, endemic and wholescale across every sector in Nigeria.
Why then do people get up in arms when the issue of age cheating arises, in boisterous denial and hostile indignation.
Yes we now have MRI which has limited the degree of reckless and blatant age cheating that used to go on for years.
That doesn't mean it has now been eradicated yes limited but unfortunately until we have automatic birth data capture. It will always exist. the problem we often have with players that metamorphosed from this set up when they get signed by foreign clubs...is not talent wise not even age self...it is basically indiscipline and not being ambitious.... just take a look at nwakali, nacho and even success.... this guys some years back shows glimpses of talents and potentials what now happened? they got carried away by the new environment, the freedom and all in the western world...and simply forgot why they left the shores of Africa in the first place... my only fear for this players lies in this simple truth..... if only they can keep being disciplined, keep their head down and stay ambitious.... they will grow to stardom... |

Playing for the SE I'd you are of Nigerian origin and already making headway in your career will not add any value to your career.
If you are in obscurity it may give you much needed publicity and recognition. Komekn subject those words you wrote and put it up with Yaya toure achievements being an ivory coast international.... you think international football does not count ? c'mon.... stop saying this...do you how rangers fans so much celebrated Aribo call up to the Nigeria team and how Gerald used the call up to berate former Charlton manager....? even ranger fans counted it to be a major strike as they now have 2 internationals in their team...... international football counts in a player rating... they can enjoy some privileges being English but still they get more respect as internationals in the long run |

komekn: This is the hypocrisy with the NFF, why wait for a player to blow.
Dominic Iorfa had already blown when he committed to the SE. A player that was wanted by several EPL clubs but loyalty to former manager Kenneth and Wolves made him reject those offers.
After the politics of football seen him frozen out of Wolves. He failed to sign with Mendes as some have spuriously speculated.
Well where is he close to the top of the Championship, where all the 5 teams at the top section are divided by just three points.
But the question is not which league you are playing in but what are you doing there. Are you outstanding for club and league and consistent with too perfomances❓
What's the general opinion. See below I vividly understand your first lines... you made sense...but you see this EZE case is really a disappointment from his end... this was the best time to call up.... do you know that ARIBO would have done same when Rohr came calling.... he has the prospect to be in the epl or in a bigger club soon... he is highly rated by Gerard one of the promising face amongst the English managers springing up.... and the Rangers fans rate him highly.... you'll agree with me Nigeria is a country blessed with abundant talents just poor management and all.... had it been we have a football management like that of south Africa or even Algeria. . I can assure you.... many of this guys would have been ignored because talents abound from a population of 200M who see football as a religion......
