hardbody: the man from Yaba left, i thought water was good for concrete. When they were piling my property in the villa (i call it piling because it was massive and the soil is clayey) they worked while it was raining and the engineer (i later sacked him) claimed that the rain was good for the concrete they were pouring in and the rods they were stationing in there. Abi the man na fake? But as i said, i have since fired his sorry azz
Hahahaha. The young man didn't wanna waste time in curing the concrete(although you don't cure piles xpecially when done with cason)

It's waste of resources bro...in my case, the cement might be washed away.

NEMA warns of heavy rainfall in Lagos, neighbouring states on Tuesday

By Daily Post Staff on June 18, 2013
Pin It

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has warned residents in the southern parts of the country against severe weather which may result in unprecedented heavy rainfall.

In a statement on Monday, the agency said that the weather could bring “unforeseen stress” upon the populace.

“NEMA is issuing this early warning based on the alerts received from the African Centre of Meteorological Applications for Development based in Niamey, Niger Republic,” said the statement signed by Ibrahim Farinloye, NEMA’s South-West Spokesperson.

“The centre issued the warning about 4:35 p.m. (on Monday) to other related countries that may likely witness such severe weather in Central, East and West African sub-regions,” the statement added.

In Nigeria, Lagos and its surrounding states are expected to experience torrential rainfall from about 50 mm within 24 hours, according to the statement.

NEMA said that the alert means that all stakeholders must be prepared to take all precautionary steps against the warning.

“On this premise, NEMA is passionately imploring all segments of Nigerian society in the southern part of Nigeria to steps against exposing themselves to the dangers at hand,” said Mr. Farinloye.

“Parents and teachers are especially enjoined to keep watchful eyes on their wards while motorists should exercise restraints against driving in the rain and if they wish to park, they should ensure they don’t stay inside the vehicle.

“Those living in the flood plains should relocate to higher when they are experiencing heavy accumulation of flood water,” he added.

Am just surprised this thread hasn't hit the front page after hw many years. Anyway, left for the mods to decide.

@topic.. Some of problems we encounter in this profession is d desperate quest for money instead of d passion for the profession.

Those who have worked on site wud agree with me. The contractor wants to grab as much profit as he can thereby deviating from the design specifications.....this a problem we must solve collectively.

Another is d infiltration of the building industry by quacks. I don't knw if there is any serious measure on ground in d country to check these quacks who bring bad names to professionals.

In all building industry is definitely worth our time, considering the d condition of tinx in Nigeria....unemployment!!

I've said earlier, and am saying it again.
This war against terrorism in d north should av been a highly classified operation(A-class).

Isolate all military men with strong ties among the hausa/fulani from the modes of operation.

Do not involve any officer whether high ranked or low ranked who is extreme in d teachings of Quoran.

Reduce the rate at which informations get to the media....let the public knw what they shld knw and not what they shouldn't knw.

Orientate the Men who engage these terrorists that they are not fighting against any ethnic group or religion, rather they are fighting against people who are killing our brothers and sisters!

Afterall US never announced the operation that killed Osama Bin Laden until he was killed.
PoliticsAbubakar Shekau Escapes Arrest As JTF Suspects Sabotage by hurricaneChris(op): 10:10am On Jun 10, 2013
Wonders shall never end;

The ongoing insecurity crisis in the northern region of Nigeria may have found its Achilles heel at the doorstep disloyalty and sabotage within the top ranks of the Joint Task Force (JTF) as it parades

its security strength at the three hot spots of Adamawa, Yobe and Borno States under the new State of Emergency instituted recently by the President of the federal republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebelemi Jonathan.

Information available to a source obtained through competent sources knowledgeable of the ongoings of the activities of the standoff between the violent Jihadist group [Boko Haram] and the Nigerian security forces – indicate that not all may be going as earlier anticipated by the federal armed forces.

Upon initial arrival of the Nigerian security forces to the war theater in Borno State, it was reported to have made quick successes against the violent Jihadist group. A member of the JTF, Lt.-Col. Danladi Hassan revealed that the suspected terrorists that were previously holed up in Kirenowa, about 60 kilometers to Nigeria's border with Chad Republic, "escaped their camp on May 16, 2013 and destroyed their belongings before leaving as they discovered that the federal forces were approaching." A military source even revealed that the top boss of the Jihadist group, Shekau, was within the reach of Nigerian security forces – at the start of the operation.

The source, who is a close associate of the Director of the State Security Service (SSS), revealed that the Nigerian security agents had the Jihadist top boss' location and pattern of movement within their radar – through the assistance of newly acquired security gadgets donated by American and Israeli intelligence agencies.

The JTF in Borno had pinpointed and confirmed the location and/or hiding place of Shekau – near a boundary town to Borno on the Niger Republic side near Goure – where many of the Jihadist fighters were reported to have escaped to – following the declaration of State of Emergency.

However as the Nigerian military forces swooped into the town in considerable numbers – hoping to capture or kill the Jihadist leader – in time to score appreciable political victory against the May 29, 2013 Democracy Day celebration – Shekau disappeared into an unknown location following what the top ranks in the Nigerian Intelligence circles believe was a tipoff from a Jihadist mole within the Nigerian Military ranks. The source also notes that security agents believe Shekau and some of his men may have traveled westwards towards Madarounfa in Niger Republic – for possible re-entry into Nigeria through Kano or Katsina State.

The Commander of the Military forces stationed in Borno Maj.-Gen. John Ewanshia was particularly unsettled by the narrow escape of the Jihadist terrorist. The makeup of the security forces, as a result, was reshuffled to weed out the Boko Haram sympathizers, suspected Muslim hardliners, suspected Buhari/Babangida loyalists and others believed to have reasons to undermine the Jonathan administration's efforts against the Jihadist group.
Meanwhile, Nigerian intelligence point to new developments within the Jihadist group that have begun to raise concerns within the agency. A competent source near the activities of the JTF admitted that the upcoming 2015 Presidential elections and the tussle within the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP], has added an unexpected but dangerous dimension to the campaign against violent Jihadist.

"We suspect that some of the northern politicians who have indicated interest to occupy the President's seat, and those wanting to get the PDP presidential ticket have started providing assistance to the terrorists" said the source who also explained that the politicians in question have come to accept the 2015 presidential race as a test of WILL between northern Nigeria and Jonathan presidency. "We expect for the activities of Boko Haram to ramp up as the tussle for presidential ticket within PDP draws nearer".

chukwudi44: Okpaleke has been appointed as the substantive bishop of ahiara diocese. He is the only one recognised by rome to run the diocese and all correspondences about the diocese must go from him to rome or the CBCN.

The ekwulobia diocese does not exist and no bishop has been appointed for it.Whenever it is created the pope will appoint someone to take charge of that diocese.

The catholic church will rather close down the ahiara diocese than succumb to the antics of renegades masquarading as priests and their thug laity collaborators.

We have seen them before in the church history.Mbaise people are even just too small and represent an insignificant percentage of the catholic church.
Chukwudi I agree and support that d church wud rather close than to succumb to the unnecessary logic of my people....Ndi Mbaise!

But calling our catholic percentage "insignificant" is totally laughable and shows hw cluelez you are about the catholic faith in Mbaise.

The number Priests of Mbaise origin is d highest compared to any oda diocese in Nigeria....do ur research. I don't knw ur diocese, but am sure of my statistics.

But in everytin, I stand by the supremacy of Vatican rule over Mbaise rule.

PoliticsNigerian Army Kills Boko Haram Chief, 3 Others! by hurricaneChris(op): 8:23am On May 28, 2013
Nigerian military ‘kills Boko Haram chief, 3 others’

The Multinational Joint Task Force has captured three key Assembly Points of Boko Haram insurgents and killed three, including a high profile terrorist identified as Abba, the military said yesterday.

Besides, the Force has arrested 25 suspected insurgents during a foiled bid to invade Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

But the insurgents killed a security operative.

These disclosures were contained in a statement by the Defence Headquarters, signed by its spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, on the update on the ongoing special operation in Borno State and two others —Adamawa and Yobe —where a state of emergency is on.

The statement said the Special Forces had also intercepted messages sent to fleeing insurgents, urging them not to give up but fight to the end.

The statement said: “Troops of the Special Forces have intercepted messages sent to fleeing insurgents urging them not to give up but fight to the end.

“The attempt by some of them to heed the call was foiled during the weekend as they were trailed to some settlements and towns towards the border where they plan to regroup.

“Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force carried out an operation which resulted in the capture and destruction of the insurgents’ assembly points sited on the outskirts of Kaneram Dan Katsina, Tumbu Dabino and Mallam Fatori area north of Baga.

“The towns and settlements have now been secured while cordon-and-search operation is also ongoing in the area after the insurgents have been dislodged.”

The statement which could not be independently confirmed, added: “Meanwhile, a total of 25 insurgents were rounded up while three died, including a high profile terrorist identified as Abba, who has been on the list of most wanted persons.

“This incident happened during an encounter with troops of the task force as the insurgents were finalising moves to carry out an extensive terrorist operation around Maiduguri.

“The captured ones were all apprehended with their weapons, which include rifles, pistols, double barrel guns and various calibres of ammunition, during a raid operation of the JTF in Kumshe and Bulunkutu area.

“In Sambisa forest, troops combing the forest continue to make more discoveries.

“A man who had been held hostage in the forest since last year escaped, bound in handcuffs as his captors fled during the troops’ attack on the biggest camp in the forest. The freed hostage is being treated by the Task Force.

“The troops are dominating the forest as they find a number of fresh grave, more arms and ammunition, burnt vehicles and other equipment. More updates as the operation continues.”

Christianity EtcSpeaking In Tongues By The Apostles And In Our Churches Today. Any Difference? by hurricaneChris(op): 2:13pm On May 19, 2013
Please brethren, I seek an honest answer to these questions. I want to use today being the pentcost sunday to seek clarification.

Many people who speak in tongues trace it to what happened to the apostles on d pentecost day. Which in no doubt is a day the holy came down on the apostles of Jesus. But these days, what happens in our churches surprises me.

I used to have two friends in PH who belong to one of the new generation churches (I will not mention the name of this church). These guys had an already-written "tongues" which they always rehearsed occasionally to be used during prayers.

Sometimes, they wud listen to tapes to learn how to speak in tongues.

During the pentecost, the apostles spoke in different languages.
-These languages were clearly understood by people who listened to them.
-these languages united the people as God used languages to divide people during the tower of Babel.
- these languages were used to pass message of the God to people of different race.

Now my questions:
-speaking in tongues in our churches today, is it similar to that of the pentecost?
-When people speak in tongues in our churches these days, does anyone understand them?
- if the holy spirit inspired the apostles to speak in tongues during the pentecost, why do "we" have to learn it these days?
- are people who speak in tongues in our churches passing message from God?

Please I'll appreciate sincere answers from the enlightened people. Thanks.
