It's always amusing to me when people assume that obtaining a degree from NOUN is easy. Most graduates from conventional universities wouldn't survive 5 semesters at the National Open University of Nigeria.
In Nigeria, NOUN is unmatched in upholding academic standards and discipline. There are no opportunities for bribing lecturers or cheating, unlike other universities where grades can be bought by warming a lecturers bed or fueling his car

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday promised that he would do all within his powers to ensure that all parts of the country still under the control of terrorists and insurgents were totally liberated before May 29.

A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, quoted the President as making the promise while receiving a delegation of Heads of Customs from the West and Central African Region of the World Customs Organisation, led by the Secretary-General of the organisation, Mr. Kunio Mikuriya.

The delegation visited Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Jonathan reportedly told his guests that he was determined to hand over a country completely free of terrorist strongholds to the President-elect Muhammadu Buhari.

He was further quoted as saying the ongoing military operations in the North-East had already recorded huge successes, with two states completely free from the control of terrorists, while operations in the third state had reached a concluding stage.

“We can now say two states are completely free from terrorist control, while in the third state, it is only in one Local Government Area that they are still present. That is in the Sambisa Forest,” the President told his guests.

Jonathan also noted that the military had already moved into the forest to seize the remaining camps of the terrorists, adding that the recent rescue of about 300 abducted girls and women was further evidence of the success being achieved in the ongoing operation.

On his decision to concede victory to the President-elect before all the results of the presidential elections were announced, Jonathan said elections must be approached from a nationalistic point of view.

“Our elections should be about where Nigeria is going. If Nigeria is moving forward, it is for the good of all Nigerians. My children and grandchildren will live and grow in this country and contribute to it.

“I always tell my colleagues to leave office when their time is up. We are trying to encourage African leaders not to remain in power as kings until death,’’ he said.

President Goodluck Jonathan has stepped his game up by taking his presidential campaign to far away Ghana. Huge billboards of the incumbent president are seen in strategic positions in Accra, the capital of the country.

However, reports say the citizens of the West African Nation are mocking Jonathan for putting up billboards of his picture and that of Sambo on their streets. They believe it is unwise of the Nigerian president to go such extent as Nigeria don't use the online voting system and just very few citizens of the country can go home to vote.

The hatred between the Igbos and Hausa/Fulani is mutual, that is why GEJ will get 100% of votes cast in the entire southeast. Let me correct something here, if Fashola was the presidential candidate of the APC, and he were to receive such a chieftaincy title, there wouldn"t have been any hue and cry on the matter. The Igbos are fully aware of the long standing hatred of Igbos by the Hausa/Fulani, which was handed down to them by the then Saldana, late Ahmadu Bello, little wonder that it was an Igbo man that killed him, which on its own led to the massacre of Igbos in 1966, leading eventually to the civil war. There has always been that mutual suspicion amongst the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria, only that with the fulanis, hatred is an additional component. I hope this will clear things more for those of you who are being deceived by the rallies in IMO state, and some other southeastern states, stage managed to give an impression that southeast will support Buhari, when shove comes to push, the southeast will speak as they have always spoken. I'm pretty much certain that Buhari is not under any delusions as to think that he will get up to 5% of votes cast in any southeast and south-south states.He is simply paying the price for his nepotic disposition to national issues, over the years.
