http://af.reuters.com/article/topNews/idAFKBN0OY14A20150618 Ndjamena (Reuters) - Chad's military has carried out a series of air strikes against Boko Haram bases in Nigeria in retaliation for twin suicide bombings this week in the Chadian capital N'Djamena that killed at least 34 people, it said in a statement late on Wednesday. The Chadian army said the strikes had caused heavy human and material damage to six of the Islamist militants' bases. It provided no further details. Chad has been a driving force behind a regional military campaign that has inflicted a series of defeats on Boko Haram since January. |
http://saharareporters.com/2015/06/15/president-bashir-sudan-arrives-khartoum-after-escaping-possible-arrest-au-summit The President of Sudan, Omar Al-Bashir, arrived in Sudan’s capital Khartoum moments ago according to media reports. President Bashir arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa on Satruday to attend the African Union (AU) Summit. Shortly after his arrival the South African High Court began deliberating whether to arrest him after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a request that the South African authorities arrest him. President Bashir, who ascended to power through a coup in 1989, has a warrant for his arrest by the ICC for Crimes Against Humanity and Crimes of Genocide for his government’s actions in the Darfur region of Sudan, and numerous other atrocities. Bashir arrived in his traditional white garments waving his trademark cane as he stepped off the plane and shouted, “God is greatest!”. "What was being circulated was propaganda, and his participation confirms the President is one of Africa's leaders,” he told media at the airport in Khartoum. Bashir was greeted by a host of ministers and dignitaries in addition to a crowd of 1,000 supporters as he walked down a red carpet upon his arrival. Reports have emerged that President Bashir fled South Africa through a military air base, where his plane was moved once news broke that the South African High Court could arrest him on the ICC warrant. It is widely believed that South Africa’s President, Jacob Zuma, assisted with Bashir’s escape. The United Nations estimates that at least 300,000 people have been murdered in Darfur by Bashir’s regime. |

Aisha Buhari, Wife of President Muhammadu Buhari over the weekend warned political associates of her husband to be mindful of their actions. The first lady issued the warning during an Appreciation Dinner she hosted in honour of the All Progressives Congress’ women and youths at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. She said, ''Goodluck Jonathan is a good man whose government was destroyed by those around him. We shall not allow aides to destroy us''. ''So, the people that are going to be around President Buhari have to be very careful because this election ended peacefully. We are praying and hoping that people around him should know that it took him 12 years to get to that position and they must know that they are coming to serve the masses, not General Buhari. It is the people that are around him that will determine the political health of our state''. ''I will like to inform you that in the past regime, whether it is true or false, only God knows, some people were going round and parading themselves as personal assistants. If you wanted to see the President’s wife, you will pay $30,000 or $ 50,000 and if you are seeing the President, you will pay all that you have saved in your lifetime. ''This will not happen in our regime. Whoever asks you to give a single penny in the name of coming to see the President or his wife is not our (member of) staff. He is not an APC member, it is a lie. Don’t be deceived'', the first lady said. |
••• “ We have been getting enquiries and meeting people who are in need of property for accommodation. I was busy throughout Sunday attending to enquiries and taking prospectors round the properties that we have for lease or sale”, said Adedeji. He added, “Although they haven’t started paying up, they have shown preference for highbrow areas like Asokoro, Maitama and Wuse”. A newly-built four or five bedroom flat in Asokoro or Maitama currently sells between N600million and N700million, while older ones go for a minimum of N400 million. Likewise, a nine-bedroom mansion with gymnasium, suspended swimming pool, land mass of over 6,000 square metres, costs between N1billion and N1.5billion. Buhari had complained of bloated government functionaries that have been a drain on the treasury pushing up overheads. Also the speculation to erase the position of junior ministers in the cabinet has pointed to prospects of a lean workforce by government at the centre. |

''At least 37 people, mostly men and youths, were killed in a coordinated attack on the five villages. Their homes were razed down completely.'' According to civilians JTF, Boko Haram militants have killed at least 37 people in separate attacks on five different villages on Wednesday in Borno State. The notorious group rode on utility vehicles to Koshifa, Matangle, Buraltuma, Darmanti, Almeri and Burmari villages all in Damboa local government area of Borno state yesterday, opening fire indiscriminately on villagers as well as burning homes. A top civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in Biu town who confirmed the attack by phone to SaharaReporters said that the villagers who fled experienced horrible things from the insurgents. With all their husbands dead and houses burnt down, they escaped their homes with nothing. ''At least 37 people, mostly men and youths, were killed in a coordinated attack on the five villages. Their homes were razed down completely.'' He added that ''many people are still missing but we believe that they will still come to Damboa or Biu town so that they can reunite with their families. I must say Boko haram has almost wiped out this generation.'' A security source also confirmed the attacks but couldn't state the exact figures. source:: http://saharareporters.com/2015/06/11/37-killed-boko-haram-five-borno-communities |
