IslamChristmas Food by Hussein27(op): 7:50am On Dec 23, 2024
🤔

As usual, many have asked about the permissibility or otherwise of eating Christmas foods. This is a question that crops up every year as the festival draws near the celebrators.

First, that Muslims are forbidden from celebrating the festivals of the non-muslims is incontrovertible. It is a fact that is as clear as the fourteenth-day moon. Christmas being one of such festivals isn't for the Muslims to celebrate. It is harām by the consensus of the scholars of Islām. Find detail in my article titled, "Christmas to a Muslim".

As for foods prepared for the festivals, however, scholars differ in their opinions. This to my best of knowledge is because of two reasons: that the Qur'ān (Sūratul Mā'idah Verse 5) explicitly states that foods prepared by Jews and Christians may be eaten by Muslims; and that authentic evidence have shown that some of the companions of the prophet would accept 'gifts' from the unbelievers during their festivals. Analysis below.

Some scholars, premised upon the above verse, say Christmas food is permissible since Allāh allows foods prepared by Christians with no exceptions to their festivals. They hold that if He - Allāh - didn't want foods prepared for their festivals consumed, He being the All-Knower, would have indicated it in the verse. They added that since some of the companions, including our mother 'Āishah, would accept 'gifts' from the unbelievers on their festival days, Christmas food too may be accepted as 'gifts'.

Other scholars -- majority to be specific -- are of the opinion that eating Christmas food is harām. This - and Allāh knows best - is what I understand best of the issue.

Food prepared by a Christian that has nothing to do with his faith is what is referred to in the aforementioned verse, and we are allowed to devour it and even ask for more. A Christian relation or neighbour invites one to a lunch, nothing stops a Muslim from doing justice to the meal and having the bones enjoyably broken. A Muslim is offered food prepared for a Christian wedding, childbirth ceremony, convocation, housewarming etc, why should he deprive himself of such a succulent delicacy? All these, no doubt, have nothing to do with their faith, so a Muslim can enjoy himself with them.

But where it involves their faith, especially one that has to do with falsification against Allāh: that He has a son, or that, that son is even Him, eating such a food will mean nothing but soft acceptance of the obnoxious ideology.

Christmas is all about the birthday of the son of God, or of God Himself. This, indisputably, is against the fundamentals of Islām, where Allāh explicitly says He begot no son nor was He begotten. Even if such a food will not be considered harām, it should still be detested by a serious Muslim.

As regards gifts, yes, there are proofs that some of the companions would accept gifts from the unbelievers on their festive days. On this, scholars seem to have a consensus - that the gifts weren't food but tangible items which would not promote the festival or the religion.

Imagine a Muslim being given Xmas 🎅 or fireworks (commonly called banger). That should not be accepted because it promotes the festival. But a bucket, a hand-fan, a packer etc presented by a Christian for his festival may be accepted. Scholars say this was the understanding of the companions who would accept gift items from the unbelievers.

If a pagan's food may be ordinarily eaten but should be rejected if it's for his Agẹmọ, Orò, Ẹ̀yọ̀, Ọ̀ṣun, Ṣàngó festivals, then that of the Christian too for his Christmas shouldn't be accepted either. Wallāhu a'lam.

*“Our Lord! Grant that our spouses and our offspring be a comfort to our eyes, and give us the grace to lead those who are conscious of You”* (Furqaan 74).

*Question* : Every human being by nature has an instinct to dispute. This instinct becomes more manifest between the husband and wife, thus leading to marital disputes. How can this instinct be controlled?

*Answer* : Consider the following ten points to control the instinct of dispute and maintain a happy marriage.

1⃣ *Fear Allah* : It was the noble practice of Nabi salallahu alayhi wasallam to conscientise the spouses about the fear for Allah before performing a Nikah by reciting the verses (Nisa v14, Ahzab v69, Aali-Imraan v101) from the Quraan. All the verses are common in the message of Taqwa (fear of Allah). The spouses will be first committed to Allah before being committed to their partner. There can be no doubt in the success of a marriage governed by the fear of Allah.

2⃣ *Never be angry at the same time* : Anger is the root cause for all marital disputes. One Sahabi came to Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam and sought some advice. Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam replied, control your anger. The same advice was rendered three times. (Mishkaat pg.433; HM Saeed)

3⃣ *If one has to win an argument, let it be the other* : Nabi salallahu alayhi wasallam said: “ *Whoever discards an argument despite being correct shall earn a palace in the centre of Jannah.* (Ibid pg.412)

4⃣ *Never shout at each other unless the house is on fire:* Luqman (Alaihis Salaam) while offering advice to his son said: ” *and lower your voice for verily the most disliked voice is that of a donkey”* . (Surah Luqman v19)

5⃣ *If you have to criticize, do it lovingly* : Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam said, ‘ *A Mu’ min is a mirror for a Mu’min.* ’ (Abu Dawud vol.2 pg.325; Imdadiyah) Advise with dignity and silently.

6⃣ *Never bring up mistakes of the past:* Nabi Muhammad salallahu alayhi wasallam said: “ *Whoever conceals the faults of others, Allah shall conceal his faults on the day of Qiyaamah.”* (Mishkaat pg.429; HM Saeed)

7⃣ *Neglect the whole world rather than your marriage partner:* Nabi Muhammad salallahu alayhi wasallam confirmed the advice of Salman to Abu-Darda (Radiayallaahu Anhu) for neglecting his wife. “ *Verily there is a right of your wife over you.* ” (Nasai Hadith2391)

8⃣ *Never sleep with an argument unsettled:* Abu Bakr radiallahu anhu resolved his dispute with his wife over-feeding the guests before going to bed. (Bukhari Hadith 602)

9⃣ *At least, once everyday, express your gratitude to your partner:* Nabi Muhammad salallahu alayhi wasallam said, *‘Whoever does not show gratitude to the people has not shown gratitude to Allah* .’ (Abu Dawud pg.662; Karachi)

🔟 *When you have done something wrong, be ready to admit it and ask for forgiveness:* Nabi Muhammad salallahu alayhi wasallam said, *‘All the sons of Aadam commit error, and the best of those who err are those who seek forgiveness.’* (Tirmidhi Hadith 2499)

Christianity EtcChristmas To A Muslim by Hussein27(op): 11:55am On Dec 22, 2024
Among the various acts that make Christianity an artificial religion is the celebration of the birth of Christ every December 25th. This, indisputably, has no place in the Bible, just like their singing-dancing mode of worship or walking barefooted in transparent white garments. Christmas, according to notable Christians one of whom is Pastor Kúmúyì of the Deeper Life Church, has even been associated with paganism.

Anyway, I have no problem with people practising their religion and celebrating their festivals, but my worry is fellow Muslims joining in the practice of an artificial feast.

Christmas is today celebrated by some Muslims. Those who do this are the people who believe they can practise Islām as they so wish. They say they are liberal and moderate, and that whoever believes otherwise is fanatical or uncivilised.

Ask them what Islām is, they will shallowly tell you it is a religion of peace. Of course, Islām is peace, but is that its definition? That is just an integral part of the religion. Islām, rather, is total, complete and absolute submission to the will of Allāh. So, whoever submits himself to the Qur'ān and the Sunnah -- the manual of Islām -- is referred to as a Muslim.

Muslims are enjoined to live peacefully with the Christians. We can eat with them; transact business with them; play with them etc. But when it comes to their religion, we are forbidden from doing that with them. We cannot worship with them, neither can we celebrate their festivals, such as Christmas, Easter, Good Friday, Palm Sunday etc. with them.

When the prophet got to Madīnah, he met the people on different celebrations. Rather than join them, he informed them of the alternatives provided by their Lord -- Eidul Adhā and Eidul Fitr. That was how an end was put to the initial festivals. This is moderate Islām, not the one preached by the whimsical liberalists. Theirs is laxity, not moderacy.

Remember when the prophet was approached by the unbelievers who persuaded him to allow them practise his religion and he practise theirs on a yearly rotation? It wasn't the prophet but Allāh who responded with a whole Qur'ānic chapter -- Sūratul Kāfirūn -- which was concluded with لكم دينكم وليدين (let your religion be yours and mine be mine). I hope the liberalists would not have Allāh labelled with 'extremism' too?

Christianity says Christ is the only son of God, Islām says Allāh begets no child nor was He begotten. In fact, majority of the Christians believe Christ is God, whereas Muslims believe otherwise -- that Allāh is no human.

In Christianity, Christ is believed to have been crucified, Islām on the other side believes he wasn't crucified as clearly stated in Qur'ān 4 verse 157. Christians believe in God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Trinity), Muslims believe this is a blatant ridicule of the sovereignty of the One-and-only Supreme Being.

By Christmas, the birth of Christ as the son of God (or even God) which is alien to Islām is being celebrated.

How sensible then is it for the one who claims to be a true servant of Allāh joining in celebrating the birthday of the son of God (or God)? It makes no sense! Think about it.

So, it is no moderacy but laxity to see a Muslim design his house with Christmas red-and-green symbol. It is laxity to hear the jingle bell sung in the house of a Muslim. It is laxity to see Muslims visit 🎅. It is laxity to see Muslims do anything that will have the festivity promoted. This is no extremity but moderacy. That's what the Qur'ān says, as exemplified by the prophet. May we not be misguided.

Watch out for "CHRISTMAS FOOD".

Christianity EtcOrthodox Christianity Is Closer To Islam Than European Christianity by Hussein27(op): 11:11am On Dec 22, 2024
This is my daughter at an Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church in Addis Ababa, on the Sabbath Day, which, for those who may wish to know, is from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday (this was taken this Saturday). That is my wife in the background. We are currently in Ethiopia to celebrate the Orthodox holiday of Timket.

Notice how they are dressed? They are covered from head to toe. This is how Orthodox Habesha (the real name for Ethiopia) Christian women have been dressing to go to church for almost two thousand years since Aksum (the pre-Christian kingdom of Abyssinia) became a Christian nation.

Christianity in Ethiopia began after the Ethiopian eunuch of Acts Chapter 8 was converted by Phillip and returned home to Abyssinia with the message of the Gospel.

If you look carefully, you will see that this church looks like a mosque. Why? The Habesha people have been building churches like this for almost two thousand years. Even before prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu Alayhi Wasalaam, was born.

They also have priests or monks who call out worship times similarly to how Islamic muezzin call out the Mu'min to prayer.

When prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu Alayhi Wasalaam, had his encounter with the angel, one of those he sought guidance from was Waraqah ibn Nawfal, a Christian priest, who was aware of the Christian kingdom of Abyssinia in Aksum.

And so, when the Quraysh of Mecca wanted to kill the first Muslim converts and companions of the prophet, called the Sahabah, the prophet urged them to seek refuge in Aksum with Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo.

That was the first Hijrah in Islam, not the Hijrah to Medina. The Hijrah to Medina was in 622 CE, and the Hijrah to Aksum was in 615 CE.

When the Quraysh sent emissaries to the Negus (king) of Aksum, asking him to surrender the Mu'min to them, the Negus refused and said that the Mu'min were like Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Christians. According to the Negus, the only difference is that the Mu'min believe Yeshua (Jesus) is a prophet, while Tewahedo Christians believe He is the Son of God.

According to the Negus, all other differences between Tewahedo Christians and Islam were trifles.

The Negus gave the Mu'min a town called Harar as a refuge city, and from that time till today, Harar, in Ethiopia, is the fourth holiest city in Islam.

The name by which the Ethiopian Orthodox Church is called, Tewahedo, has exactly the same meaning as the central article of faith in Islam, Tawhid.

Tewahedo means 'united as one'. Tawhid means 'making one'. Both of them proclaim that there is only One God.

Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) nurse and nanny, Umm Ayman, was an Ethiopian. She was present on the day the prophet of Islam was born and on the day he died. She was one of the first converts to Islam.

Ruqayyah, the daughter of prophet Muhammad (SAW), lived in Ethiopia for ten years with her husband, Uthman, the third Caliph of Islam.

Men and women enter an Orthodox Church from different entrances and do not mingle within the building. They seat in separate places. And they do not set apart Sunday for worship services. Every day is a service day.

Before you argue, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has the oldest compete and illustrated New Testament in the world.

Please do not get it twisted. The Dead Sea Scrolls are the oldest Tanakh (Old Testament) in existence. The Codex Sinaiticus is the oldest text of the Christian Bible, but it is not illustrated.

However, the Garima Gospels are the oldest complete and illustrated New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) on Earth.

Their Scriptures are older than the ones in Europe. If you take your King James Version or any other European version and look at the footnotes, when they have interpretation issues, they will resolve them by saying, 'The Ethiopic Scriptures say...' The oldest complete and illustrated Christian Scriptures on Earth are the Garima Gospels.

So, please stop seeing Muslims as enemies. This happens when you blindly follow the pseudo-Christianity that came from Europe rather than the older Orthodox Christianity.

Your real enemy is not the other religion. You foe is ignorance. Read. Iqra. Once you conquer ignorance, your eyes will open, and you will begin to realise that the difference among all Abrahamic faiths is just like the difference between British, American and Canadian English.

A couple of days ago, a certain individual stirred an unhealthy debate on X about a banner hung around Lekki Central Mosque in Lagos. The inscription on the banner reads: "Jesus Christ is not God. He is a Servant and Messenger of God." Like a wild fire, the controversy spread across all social media platforms, with commentators divided along religious lines.

As expected, most Christians found the inscription to be provocative, offensive, and inciting, citing the fact that it negates the principles of peaceful coexistence and tolerance in a multi religious country. Another point raised was the timing of hanging the banner, especially at a time when Christians are preparing to celebrate Christmas.

A number of Muslim commentators seem to agree with the above submissions. They faulted the Masjid authority for insensitivity to the feelings of the Christian community at a time when Christmas is just a couple of days away. They equally submitted that irrespective of the period, hanging such a banner violates the concept of peace which is a core and fundamental teaching of Islam.

Thus, the social media battle shifted from an inter to an intra religious one, with some ethnic colouration and dimensions poured into it. Some of the arguments were logical, while some were completely emotional. Worse still, some had hypocritical stripes drawn over it. To make matters worse, those who cannot handle intellectual engagements went on hurling insults and throwing jabs and invective, burning bridges and severing ties along the way.

Earlier today, I watched the Khutbah delivered yesterday by the Chief Imam of Lekki Central Mosque, and one cannot but appreciate his eloquence and calmness in the midst of the storm created by the issue. His short address of the issue provides the following insights:

1. The banner wasn't hung this month or even last month. It has been there for well over 2 months.

2. The text on the banner is a verse of the Noble Qur'ān (5:75) which says, مَا الْمَسِيحُ ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ إِلَّا رَسُولٌ "Jesus the son of Mar'yam is not but a Messenger of Allah." This verse is a continuation of verse 72 which says,

"And surely they disbelieved when they said: 'Christ, the son of Mary, is indeed God'; whereas Christ had said: 'Children of Israel! Serve Allah, Who is your Lord and my Lord."

3. In a country where freedom of religion is guaranteed, when does it become a crime to state exactly what your religion says, and which does NOT in any way insult others?

4. If Christians feel that "Jesus is not God" offends them, how should Muslims feel about the thousands of banners which says, "Jesus is Lord"? Your right to say Jesus is Lord which you claim is a biblical statement is the Muslim's right to say, "Jesus is not Lord" which is a Qur'ān verse. Why should the Muslim suppress his right for your right when both can actually coexist?

5. Jesus is not the Christian's property alone. He is a Prophet of God sent to the Children of Israel. Belief in him is a fundamental teaching in Islam. Muslims love and rever him and his mother. Not only were they mentioned in the Qur'ān, Mary'am, his mother actually has a whole chapter dedicated to her holiness. To think that only the Christians have the right to mention Jesus is wrong.

6. Some have argued that how will the Muslims feel if Christians decide to hang a banner that says "Muhammad is not a Prophet of God." Well, that would be a deliberate act of provocation because there's no single verse of the Bible that says so. In fact, the Bible rightly prophesied his coming as the COMFORTER.

Those who accuse Muslims of troublemaking are either ignorant and gullible, or deliberately mischievous. The real troublemakers are the individual who took that picture and his co-travellers who amplified and blowed it beyond reasonable proportions.

Unfortunately, they found a voice in some Muslims who either forgot Qur'ān 2:120, or simply want to be celebrated as the good guys at the expense of what is sound and logical. How can you say لا إله إلا الله "There's no god but Allāh" and still blame your fellow Muslims for saying "Jesus is not God" when you see nothing wrong with a non Muslim saying, "Jesus is Lord"?

Should Muslims apply the same logic, every banner that says "Jesus is Lord" must be removed immediately as it is offensive and provocative. Let's live and let others live.

Saying Muslims should not hang a banner saying 'Jesus is not God' because it is offensive to Christians is like saying Christians should not hang a banner saying 'Jesus is God' because it is offensive to Muslims.

Religious tolerance means practice your religion while I practice mine. There are contents of both religions that the other will find offensive naturally. You don't need to be apologetic about it. If a christian can preach to me to accept Jesus as 'my Lord and personal savior' why should he find it offensive if I call him to worship Allāh and not Jesus?

It is just a ridiculous argument masked under an air of superiority. "I can do it but you can't". If you ever see any Muslim insult Jesus christ, let us know because it is tantamount to disbelief as far as Islam is concerned. If in the practice of my religion you find it offensive I shouldn't owe you any apology. I am an unbeliever to christians and I am fine with that.

Tolerance does not mean religious compromise because someone will feel offended. In fact if you are forced to hide your religion because someone might feel offended then you are not serious about religion.

IslamAre You Ready To Die?. Death And 4 Simple Tips To Prepare For It by Hussein27(op): 11:07am On Dec 15, 2024
The Prophet (Peace be upon Him) stood at the edge of a grave and cried and he then said: " *O my brothers! For this (death), prepare yourselves."*
(Ibn Majah)

A man asked the Messenger: "Who is the most wise of people O Messenger of Allah?" He replied: " *The one who remembers death most often and the one who is well-prepared to meet it; these are the wise; honorable in this life and dignified in the Hereafter."*
[Ibn Majah,Tabarani]

*Do good deeds before it's too late*

Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon Him) said, " *Hasten to do good deeds before you are overtaken by one of the seven afflictions.''* Then (giving a warning) he said, " *Are you waiting for poverty which will make you unmindful of devotion, or prosperity which will make you corrupt, or a disease which will disable you, or senility which will make you mentally unstable, or sudden death which will take you all of a sudden, or Ad-Dajjal who is the worst expected, or the Hour; and the Hour will be most grievous and most bitter.''*
[At-Tirmidhi]

*Your death is nearer than you think it is*

The Prophet (Peace be upon Him) drew a few lines and said, " *One of them represents man and another indicates death; and a man continues like this until the nearest line (i.e., death) overtakes him.''*
[Al-Bukhari]

*4 Simple Tips to Prepare for Death*

1⃣ Learn the do’s and dont’s: When you have recognized Islam as the true religion and chosen it as your way of life then you must know the laws of the deen so that you can start practising it. Learn about the permissible and impermissible matters, so that you know which actions will make you a beloved slave of Allah Ta'ala and take you to Paradise, and which actions will make you a follower of Shaitaan and take you to Hell-Fire.

The Prophet (Peace be upon Him) said: " *Whoever follows a path seeking knowledge, Allah will make the path to Paradise easy for him."* (Al-Bukhaari)

2⃣ Attain Taqwah: If you have knowledge but lack Taqwah, then you cannot practice the deen with devotion. Only those who have knowledge about Allah Ta'ala and about the life after death, truly fear Him as He should be feared, and only those will stay away from His disobedience. So, read about what awaits you in the life after your death and infuse the love for Jannah and fear of Hell in your heart.

3⃣ Be passionate about performing good deeds: Grab opportunities to do good deeds. Learn ways to make your scale of good deeds heavy on Judgment Day (such as these ahadith- Allah’s Messenger (Peace be upon Him) said, " *The heaviest thing to be placed in the balance of a believing slave on the Day of Judgement will be good behaviour."* (At-Tirmidhi).

" *There are two statements that are light for the tongue, heavy in the Scales and are dear to the Merciful: Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan-Allahil-'Adheem* .'' [Al-Bukhari].

*"If the seven heavens and the earth were placed on one side of the scale, and 'la ilaha ill-Allaah' was placed on the other, the side in which 'la ilaha ill-Allaah' is placed will be heavier." [* Al-Bukhari])

4⃣ Invoking Allah Ta'ala for His Mercy and His guidance: Remember it is only Allah Ta'ala who creates ways for you to earn hasanaat (good deeds) and it is He who gives you the strength to stay away from evil. So sincerely pray to Him to guide and have mercy on you, your family and the ummah.

May Allah Ta'ala make it easy for us. Ameen
