@IamMichae.l

I was raised a pentecostal. Basically grew up in church.

By age 10 when I was in JS1, I had at least finished the Bible cover to cover twice. I was done with "My Book of Bible Stories" a JW publication and I was on to the next one "Questions Young People ask".

My teacher, then, Uncle Chris was dedicated. Where he had problems with my parents was when he tried to sneak me to a Congregation meeting. My dad never forgave him. My mom did tho but he was never allowed to come to the house again.

The book of revelations tortured and frightened me as a child. Till date when I flip through, a shadow of that old ghost still lurks in those pages. Old habits die hard I guess.

I was number one pic for sword drills, quizzes and Bible debates. I left my mom's church for RCCG because they had a better system for teenagers. I grew there and soon had my name forwarded for school of disciples, made assistant youth president and was mounting the altar/pulpit for programmes. I was only 16 by the time.

I was systematically and intensively brainwashed.

I know the system, in and out, I fought for it, engaged in debates for it. Church helped me hone my speaking and writing skills. But ultimately it is damaging for the psyche. It makes one sheep.

If I have kids, till you're 18, I won't bother you with religion or non religion. I'll let you grow as a child to an adult and then let you make your mind.

When I renounced religion, my old church took down my photos, erased my awards and made me a personal non grata. Some do not even speak to me again.
What is it with the congregation meeting? Is it sacred
And why is your Dad angry with him to that extent?

You can't trust what you don't understand!
You can't understand what repels you!
And it will always repels you if you're seeing those trusting it as fools.
So if you've seen virtuous attributes worth emulating in those trusting it, make friends with them so that you too can begin seeing reasons why they're trusting it!
* Are you saying that all ex-christian don't understand the bible?
* Are you saying that all ex-christian don't understand it because they dont read the bible(repel them)?
Well i'm making friend with you here, oya make me see the reason why you are trusting it

Hmmmmmmmm, well people come to TV to advertise their goods and services, even when the models they're using have never liked their products for once, but on seeing someone people know advertising a product and everyone wants to look like him/her the product becomes best seller. You can only learn better by been in the midst of adherents and seeing how they handle situations otherwise you can't improve by just hearing without seeing how it's done.
God's word has not failed, globally people know Jehovah's Witnesses for our orderliness and virtuous deeds, it's the fake that you're using to judge God's word not the original! smiley
That a popular person advertise a product does not mean the product is effective, efficient and authentic.
We should expect an effective, efficient and authentic product to be a best seller provided the consumers are knowledgeble about it and not because a popular person is advertising it
An ineffective, inefficient or inauthentic product that becomes a bestseller is definitely preying on the ignorance of it consumer.

There are over 41,000 different religions claiming Christians on this planet and JWs are standing out as the one and only true Organization of God, so out there you will hear many derogatory things about the Organization, so if you choose to believe them instead of verifying the benefits adherents are enjoying it's ok! smiley
I understand you perfectly, they always try to say derogatery things about other christian group to authenticate their own group.
Well, the fact is that you are also guilty of same, the moment you call the other 40,999 group "Not-true christian" because of your alleged true doctrine.

So, the failed predictions, The church or God's word?

Because all other religions trying to imitate the LOVE JOY and PEACE permeating JWs who are practicing what is written in the book have failed just as the book said! Matthew 7:16-18 smiley
You've said this already
You only try authenticating JW using the bible , muslim authenticate Islam using the quoran, Jews use torah, hindu use vedas e.t.c
i'm only asking how you know the bible you are quoting is infallible, truthful and God's word before it can warrant any trust.

No chief! smiley I'll call the stricken out exaggerated words.

Jehovah's Witnesses in the past attempted to interpret already established inspired prophecies that are in the Bible. They did not invent any new prophecy. The interpretations they made were not inspired/infallible. Interpretations belong only to God(Genesis 40:8 ). Jehovah's Witnesses believe the gift of prophecy/interpretation was done away with, with the completion of the Bible and maturity of the Christians congregation in the 1st century. (1Corinthians 13:8 )
The Bible students did not grasp the real meaning of the already established prophecies laid out in the Bible. But as they continued to study, the understanding was given to them that they were certain things that would take place before the time of the end! And we are ever ready to make adjustments and not keep on clinging to old understanding! Because the light of understanding keeps getting brighter (Proverbs 4:18)
Thanks for the contribution and for giving us the easy way out.
From your comment, i take that as the failure of the church and not the failure of God's word.
Thanks again

What i'm saying is before now can anyone who only speak with the first person who thought of it be convinced that people can travel through air? smiley
Does their unbelief stop those who thought of it, or demoralize them from working harder to achieve it?
No,
So how does it answer my comment;
Well there is no evidence for all you've said except from God's word(bible).
Now, my question is "can we trust that God's word(bible)"?

This is not the place where you can make the needed research, you need to be with the true Christians one on one to learn from them what exactly they're teaching face to face and by seeing how it works out! smiley
Whycheesy, are they usings things different from language and bible to convey their messages?
It seems you don't have an answer to the failure of God's word to help us know the cause of things happening around us ? So no prob

There has never been a time they prophesied that the world will end, what they were doing is studying God's word to ascertain the unfolding of the prophecies!
There is a difference between prophesying and keeping watch for the fulfilment of prophesies.
They were acting as watchmen. In those days these watchmen stands on the watchtower day and night keeping an eye on whatever is approaching, of course they may err in declaring to those in the city what they saw from afar, but those in the city will never blame them because they know that's a sign that the watchmen are discharging their duties.
For instance, they said something will happen in 1914, most people laughed at them until the first world war came that year. Of course JWs expected something else, but it was evident that they saw something coming upon the world!
So that wasn't a prophecy Sir, but God made them like the watchmen always AWAKE on the WATCHTOWER. And we the citizens they're keeping watch for really appreciate their service! smiley
Well, this is a website documenting all Watch Tower Society failed prophecies predictions.
The church or God's word?

This is not what i'm saying Sir, of course if any military man finds himself in any country during or after the war, all he needs to do is locate the army barracks in the country where he finds himself, if he's able to identify himself as a friend not foe, he will be treated hospitably.
What i'm saying is finding oneself in a place where people don't even have worship centers close to the area, a JW will feel comfortable NOT in our worship center but in the home of his brothers and sisters who have never seen him before! smiley
That's a nice gesture from the JW in this century,it is worth emulating now though this form of brotherhood also happen in early islam and i don't think they are still practising it. Kudos to you!
So how does it answer my comment;
How did you know that the book you are quoting is infallible, truthful, and the word of that God?

You only need evidence when there is lack of trust, today no one needs evidence from people who are boarding a flight to America when they're moving towards the plane.
Because people are used to traveling by air already. So it's you that has not been dealing with our God that needs such evidence, we have lots of it. If only you're willing to know. smiley
Well, if Wilbur and Orville wright did not show us evidence that plane can fly, nobody will believe not to talk of trust them.
They are not the first person to work on it, even leonardo davinci( a polymath) failed.
So why should we believe the brothers without evidence that plane can fly?
So i don't believe in your opinion that "Because people are used to traveling by air already" it is an evidence that plane can fly, that's tautamount to argumentum ad populum

Well it's because you're used to the fake and their lies so if you now meet the real even the truth will sound strange to you! smiley
Okay

God's word promised a time when monarchy will loose it's grip on power, and people will start to decide by themselves who will rule over them. During the time Daniel was penning down those words, Nebuchadnezzar was king in Babylon and nobody has heard of such a system of rulership before then, not until our time when we now have DEMOCRACY government of the people by the people and for the people! Daniel 2:44
Even Daniel who penned it down was so confused that he asked God "what is the meaning of all these?" But God replied "this message is not for you nor your contemporaries, it's for my servants in the last days, many will read this message but will never get the sense of it but i'll equip my own servants with the spirit of wisdom so that they'll grasp it, as for you o Daniel, go in peace, you will die but i will remember you when the reward for my servants are ready and you will be awakened from among the dead to get your own share!" Daniel 12:8-13
So this is what is noteworthy before we can see the reason why God's word fail.
Okay

You can't grasp how it feels to see something that others around you aren't seeing working out perfectly. My friend, it will always move you into talking to them at least to help them see it. Everything that God promised us is happening exactly as he said, most have taken place in time past, some are happening presently so there is no doubt in the heart of his faithful friends! smiley
JW and endtime prophecy sha.
Well according to your denomination, you predicted that the world will end in 1878,1881,1914,1918,1925,1975 and they all fail.
Can we attribute the failure to the word of God or the church?
Also you did not answer the last question,What happen to faith when we behold an evidence in reality and it is not in support of what we hope for?

Well Jehovah promised that at a time when people are becoming difficult to deal with {2Timothy 3:1-5} his own servants will be busy washing away all the traits of evil in their hearts. They will form one big and happy family of peace loving worshipers globally {Isaiah 2:2-4} and they will love one another just like blood relations {John 13:34-35} today you can't travel to any land where there is no relation of yours and even if there is, you need money for him/her to welcome you hospitably. Yet if the money with you is entizing your life is not safe even in the hands of your relation talkless those who don't know you.
But i will follow you to your own village and will be treated as if i'm in my own house without much money, all i just need is locate my spiritual family (Jehovah's Witnesses) period! Mark 10:29-30
So if it's about trust, that has been settled! smiley
Same happen in other denominations and religion too. Even in celestial(white garment church). All one have to do is locate a celestial church and he/she can live in the male/female room without paying a dime, you might even be fed. Same with buddhist in a monastry

Is this is the reason why you think your God and his God's word is true, infallible cause if i want to follow you i have to be absolutely sure it is the right one else i might end up in the not-true christian hell fire, muslim hell, zoroaster's van, hades e.t.c

Nothing at all.
You're alive for now, you will live in the midst of people who are wicked and heartless, you will experience natural disasters directly or indirectly, you will grow old get sick and oldage will eventually lead to your death just like every other human you are seeing now. But there is going to be a reward (gift) for God's friends, because he wants to continue seeing them forever, he will raise them from the dead and give them the antidote of oldage, sickness and death, so that they can continue living as youths forever!
Well there is no evidence for all you've said except from God's word(bible).
Now, my question is "can we trust that God's word(bible)"?

Well you say "i think" because you've not met the true Christians, so i understood you because i've been in your shoes before!
True christians? Thats fallacious!.
Even if their anything like true christian, the underlaying principles you are giving now does not go inline with christianity.
So we can say your doctrine is not christianity like therefore you are not a true christian.

You can see literally but if not guided you won't notice certain things that are noteworthy.
Is that the reason for the failure of God's word to help us know the cause of things happening around us?
Ok,what are the things that are noteworthy, i want to be guided,

FAITH has been described as the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld {Hebrew 11:1} Today you and i are enjoying some things because humans like you and i BELIEVE in what they've never seen before, they worked hard as they keep seeing things that their contemporaries never saw coming. Now you and i can talk with someone in America, watch him life, move from one part of the planet to another within few hours, save as in preserve raw food for months in freezers. All these would sound IMPOSSIBLE to someone living on this same planet 200 year ago!
Those are the things humans with vision saw and today it has become a reality.
Well i don't have any problem with having faith.
Ok, you said "FAITH has been described as the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld".
Now, my question is "what should happen to this faith when we behold an evidence in reality and it is not in support of what we hope for?"

God who created those people who envisaged this now promised something far much greater.
YES! I believe in his words because he didn't just promised to make the earth a Paradise, i'm now seeing it working out, as Jehovah's Witnesses (the one and only true Christian group) have eradicated Racism, Politics, Military and some other harmful thoughts in their midst, they're forming one big and happy family of peace loving worshipers globally.
If their God now said "don't worry about those ignoring my warnings, they're having their time which is just a taste of what you will enjoy forever, i will wipe them out from the surface of the ground so that you (my friends) can live in peace" Psalms 37:7-11

Of course i believe him!

That's what FAITH means! smiley

I doubt if you fully grasp his judicial decisions! Don't think it's what the misinformed churchgoers are carrying up and down!
Misinformed churchgoer!
His judicial decisions is in the bible for everybody to see even most churchgoer don't read this deeds.

He can help us to understand what is happening around us. When we see people behave like animals, greedy and irrational. We begin to wonder "what is wrong with their brains?" So God's word will help us to know what is causing all of that.
God's word?

If you mean bible as the God's word i think it has done poorly so far.
Why did you think we should choose God's word( i.e bible) instead of neuroscience and psychology to help us understand what is happening around us. When we see people behave like animals, greedy and irrational and begin to wonder "what is wrong with their brains?" after seeing the work of God's word in salem, Trier ,Fulda , On oncubi and Succubi e.t.c?

He is organizing future inhabitants of a peaceful earth and training them on how to live as one big and happy family of peace loving worshipers globally. You too may like to know them, and i'm sure you'll be moved to join them after seeing what God has done with them.

He plans to renovate the earth, to stop time (oldage and death), put things in order (no more natural disaster), and also to Create new things that will make life enjoyable forever for the benefit of his loyal friends!

Christianity EtcRe: My Thoughts And Questions About Religion by iamdannyfc(m):
Maximus69:
Because he is our Creator.

Those concepts would have been applicable but due to his attributes he is not able to be present everywhere, to know everything neither can he do everything.

His eyes are too pure to watch evil {Habakkuk 1:13} when a man is sleeping with his neighbour's wife and maltreating the husband or intimidating him. God can't stand such so he only pay attention to those doing what is good. That's why he is no Omnipresent or Omniscient because he just can't stand such things!

He doesn't think of evil so he can't do evil things so there are certain (evil) things humans can do that God can't do. James 1:13
I think the God you are trying to portray is a deistic God and not the prevalent religious monotheistic God.

If he is not Omnipotent nor Omnipresent why should we bother about him since we know he might not have the ability to change our situation or Nature's.
With this, why bother about religion?,don't you think it's better to embrace science at least it gives us hope that we can solve a lot of this problems if not all.

And also the reason why i ask "why we need to call him God" is that, If he is not Omnipresent and Omnipotent then he cannot be Omnibenevolent and powerful as claimed. since:

1) If he is willing to alter few things and not able, he is no different from a lab scientist who can create and does not have the ability to do all things therefore we can say he is bound by Nature.

2) If he is not willing and able to alter some things including evil (like you said) then he is not Omnibenevolent.
And if he is not Omnibenevelont, Omnipotent and Omnipresent why call him God. I think it is better to call him alien.

What did you think? Because i don't really understand your concept.and i can't seem to imagine a God that is not Omnibenevelent, Omnipotent and Omnipresent
I need enlightenment.
