nora544: Celibacy was first written into law for all priests in the 1123 at the First Lateran Council, but the practise was already common much earlier, as shown in the Spanish Council of Elvira (~295-302), which required celibacy of clerics. Because clerics resisted it, the celibacy mandate was restated at the Second Lateran Council (1139) and the Council of Trent (1545–64).[23] In places coercion and enslavement of clerical wives and children was apparently involved in the enforcement of the law. “The earliest decree in which the children [of clerics] were declared to be slaves and never to be enfranchised [freed] seems to have been a canon of the Synod of Pavia in 1018. Similar penalties were promulgated against wives and concubines (see the Synod of Melfi, 1189 can. Xii), who by the very fact of their unlawful connexion with a subdeacon or clerk of higher rank became liable to be seized by the over-lord”Thanks for the insight |
I thank God that they've finally come to this. This would reduce the homosexuality going on in the catholic church which has been a main issue to contend with for ages now |
Boboedom: Serious, these talibans don't give up. Why do they like much blood shedding?I've been wondering bout that for a long time. I think it's more of a spiritual thing. |
United States and Afghan forces have fought off an attack by Taliban insurgents on the America’s consulate in the western city of Herat. BBC reports that two Afghan police and one security guard were killed in the dawn assault, along with seven attackers. The US consulate said its workers were safe. The Taliban said they carried out the attack, which began with a huge blast at the compound gates, sparking a gun battle near consulate buildings. Attacks continue despite the planned withdrawal of foreign troops in 2014. 17 civilians, including women and children, were injured in the Herat attack. Herat sits close to the Iranian border on a vital trade route across southern Afghanistan and it has been relatively peaceful in recent years. The U.S consulate in Herat was opened just four years ago in a former five-star hotel. Source: The Nation |
LAKELAND, Fla. -- A 12-year-old Florida girl committed suicide after she was bullied online by more than a dozen girls and a sheriff said Thursday that he is investigating whether he can file charges under Florida's new law that covers cyber-bullying. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said that Rebecca Ann Sedwick jumped to her death on Monday at an old cement business in Lakeland, a city between Tampa and Orlando. Investigators say the girl was despondent after others had posted hate messages about her online.Sedwick was "absolutely terrorized on social media," Judd said. The Lakeland Ledger ( http:///1enEgI5) reports that detectives found multiple social media applications where Sedwick was constantly bullied with messages, including "Go kill yourself," and "Why are you still alive?" He said parents of all 15 girls have cooperated with detectives and several cellphones and laptops have been confiscated. Judd said charges could be filed – including cyber stalking. "If we can get any evidence of a criminal offense, the person or persons involved will be punished," he said. Before her death, Sedwick had searched questions online related to suicide, including "How many over-the-counter drugs do you take to die?" and "How many Advil do you have to take to die?" Detectives also found photos of Sedwick with razor blades lying on her arms and with her head resting on a railroad track, Judd said. Judd said a 12-year-old boy in North Carolina, who Sedwick met through social media, knew of her plan. Sedwick messaged him only hours before her death saying she was dead and "I'm jumping, I can't take it anymore." Sedwick also changed her name on a free messaging application to "That Dead Girl." Judd said detectives are trying to investigate the social media applications that Sedwick used, including Kik and Ask.fm, but many of the websites are based in other countries. If detectives can find evidence, according to Florida law, the girls could be charged with felony cyber stalking because Sedwick was under 16 years old. "If you bully somebody online and it's reported to us and we can build a credible case, we will charge you," Judd said. Source: HuffPost |
Ok. Good improvement. Thank God we avoided those teams |
I'm a Deltan and I can bet that many people aren't willing to vote for Goodluck Jonathan. The expectations people had for Jonathan aren't been meant. He hasn't fulfilled his numerous promises. If there's no rigging, Jonathan won't be able to win this 2015 election coming and there will be a big conflict Nigeria if Goodluck Jonathan clinches the election through rigging |
Can these people supporting Goodluck Jonathan give reasonable and gullible reasons why they'll vote for him because I don't see any reason to |
Shine It: @OP.Ha ha! This isn't fair nah. Are you trying to tell me that 2015 elections would be the same rigging thing? |
For me though, I prefer drinking the pure water because it's cheap. Pure water or bottled water, which do you prefer drinking and why? @Nairalanders |
I won't vote for Goodluck Jonathan. Click like>>> |
I would vote for Goodluck Jonathan. Click like>>> |
Looking at the way our politicians are gearing up for the 2015 elections even though we still got two years to go has forced me to raise this topic. Though president Goodluck Jonathan hasn't publicly stated that he's going to contest come 2015 election, we've noticed and seen some backstage attempts been made by President Goodluck Jonathan which portrays his interest in contesting for the election. Nairaland as a forum which is made up of viable youths of our dear country are surely gonna participate in the election come 2015. I like us to do a little review of what Goodluck Jonathan has done in Nigeria since he assumed office after Yaradua's death. Would you vote for Goodluck Jonathan come 2015 if he contests? If you would, give reasons why and if you would not, also give your reasons. As for me though, I won't vote for him. He hasn't been able to rule up to expectations. Let's get this going |
I'm from the South-South and I can bet that I won't vote for Goodluck Jonathan come 2015 if he contests. He can only win through election rigging. Many in the South-South has lost their confidence in Goodluck Jonathan. He was never meant to be a leader. He's a too weak |

Your pickin fine o. So cute and na oyibo woman again. I wish both of you peace and more love in your marriage. God bless |
For me though, I gonna pick riches first and fame can later come along. Like some people might also say that a good name which might also be fame is better than riches. Sometimes, fame might come together with riches but you can also be rich and not being famous. Which do you want first or prefer? Is it fame or riches? @Nairalanders |

Most guys do this and certainly most guys here do this too. We'll know the condition and situation in our dear country Nigeria. You might have found yourself doing this in public which isn't your fault or our fault though but one needs to release it when it really wants to come out. How do you behave when urinating in public (males)? Are you ashamed when doing this in public? How do you react been ashamed? |
