Politics › Obiano: Anambra Airport To Be Commissioned In July by iampeterben(op): 5:44am On May 10, 2021
Governor Willie Obiano has said the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri, would be commissioned mid-July for commercial operations.

Chief of Staff to the Governor, Primus Odili, who addressed newsmen in Awka, yesterday, on behalf of the governor said: “By July this year, possibly mid-July, the airport will be officially commissioned. By this time, all facilities befitting of a modern international cargo and passenger airport must have been ready and in place. The airport portends a good fortune for the entire South East region. The importance of the airport cannot be over-stressed as it would boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state, help traders transport their goods and services as well as a host of other benefits which can hardly be quantified.”

He said what happened on April 30 was not the official inauguration of the airport for public use, but a test-run of the runway.

“On Friday, April 30 this year, we organised a ceremony where we summoned Anambra people and friends of the state to the airport for a test-run of the runway to ascertain whether it was fit for aircraft to land and takeoff. Test-run of facilities are series of routine checks before an airport is commissioned for public use. A lot of tests had taken place at the airport before the event of April 30; the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had carried out tests on the runway to ascertain its quality prior to the actual test-run of the airport.”

He said the inauguration of the cargo airport in Anambra would ensure all cargoes come directly into the state at very reduced cost.

Foreign Affairs › Sadiq Khan Wins Second Term As Mayor Of London by iampeterben(op): 6:14am On May 09, 2021
Labour's Sadiq Khan has won a second term as London's mayor, beating Conservative rival Shaun Bailey.

He won 55.2% of the popular vote, after entering a run-off with Mr Bailey when neither managed to secure a majority in the first round of voting.

The former MP became the first Muslim mayor of an EU capital city when he was first elected to the role in 2016.

Speaking at City Hall, he promised "to strain every sinew to help build a better, brighter future for London".

The Green Party's Sian Berry came third, while the Liberal Democrats' Luisa Porritt was fourth.

The Lib Dems lost their deposit, as Ms Porritt failed to win more than 5% of the vote.

Elsewhere on Saturday evening, Labour lost overall control of Durham county council while the Tories continued to make inroads in its traditional heartlands.

Mr Khan was seen as the favourite throughout the campaign, with some pollsters predicting he would win more than half of the first-round votes.

The 51-year-old failed to reach his record-setting vote total of 2016, but won with a 228,000-vote majority.

Speaking after the results were announced, Mr Khan said: "I will always be a mayor for all Londoners, working to improve the lives of every single person in this city.

"The results of the elections around the UK shows our country, and even our city, remains deeply divided.

"The scars of Brexit have yet to heal. A crude culture war is pushing us further apart."

Mr Khan continued: "Economic inequality is getting worse both within London and in different parts of our country.

"As we seek to confront the enormity of the challenge ahead, and as we endeavour to rebuild from this pandemic, we must use this moment of national recovery to heal those damaging divisions."

Mr Khan's closest rival was Mr Bailey, who received 44.8% of the first and second-round votes, and increased the Conservative vote share by 1.6%.

He said he had been "written off" by pollsters, journalists and other politicians, adding: "But Londoners didn't write me off."

Mr Bailey congratulated Mr Khan but said he hoped the re-elected mayor would not "blame everything on the government".

During his tenure as mayor, Mr Khan has had run-ins with the government over coronavirus restrictions and Transport for London's finances.

Celebrities › Re: Actress Etinosa's Second Marriage Crashes Six Months After Secret Wedding by iampeterben(m): 4:54am On May 09, 2021
Pmpm:
Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia Secound marriage, has crashed after about eight months. She got married to her lover in September last year and welcomed their first child together in December.

Meanwhile the actress confirmed the collapse of the marriage on Saturday while reacting to a blog post that earlier announced the crash of the marriage.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, Idemudia slammed the blogger for also revealing her pregnancy months ago.

She wrote, “This ‘old witch’ again! I really do not want to reply to you but I feel you will never stop if I ignore. You were the first person to publicise my pregnancy that was barely trying to survive past the first trimester due to its complication. I kept quiet. Now you have come again and I know you have receipts and you won’t dare us to deny.

“I don’t blame you, it’s the close friend, the insider who is feeding you. May God forgive that person. Everyone is going through something including you. Thanks for getting this huge burden off my chest. You tried. But from now on, avoid me, Stella. T for Tenx.” (sic)

The actress had earlier claimed that her first marriage crashed due to domestic violence.
