PoliticsLagos State Drags Nigerian Government To Supreme Court Over Magodo Estate Crisis by IamV(op): 9:29am On Feb 19, 2022
Amid the contention over the ownership of the land, the Federal government accused the Lagos State Government of delaying the enforcement of the February 10, 2012, judgment in suit no. SC/112/2002.

The Lagos State Government, on Friday, announced its return to the Supreme Court despite the court's initial ruling on the occupation of Magodo Estate.
The announcement was made by the state’s information commissioner, Gbenga Omotoso.
Amid the contention over the ownership of the land, the Federal government accused the Lagos State Government of delaying the enforcement of the February 10, 2012, judgment in suit no. SC/112/2002.

Meanwhile, the South-West Governors had condemned the Federal Government after a Chief Superintendent of Police told Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu that officers deployed to Magodo would not leave.
The superintendent had openly told the governor that he and his colleagues were at the estate on the orders of the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba; as well as the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
This had attracted backlash for the AGF who stated that his office “belongs to the Executive arm of the Government, while the Supreme Court belongs to the Judiciary.”
Malami criticised their “unjustifiable insinuation of impunity” over the execution of a judgment of the Supreme Court.
He recalled that the verdict was delivered in 2012, long before the start of the Buhari administration.
“The judgment was a reaffirmation of the judgments of the Court of Appeal and High Court delivered on 31st December 1993.”
The AGF advised the governors to “unravel” what’s preventing the Lagos government from enforcing the order “despite attempts from 2012- 2015 and so-called settlement initiative started in 2016.”
But on Friday, the Lagos State government returned to court, Omotosho noted.
He said following Sanwo-Olu’s intervention, Lagos officials and representatives of the Shangisha Landlords Association (the judgment creditors) held a series of meetings.
“At the said meetings two issues arose: There was a serious division among the judgment creditors as to who controlled or had the right to represent the Association; and the demand by the judgment creditors that a single global Certificate of Occupancy should be issued in the name of the Association as opposed to the position of the State Government that each of the 549 members of the Association would be given allotment letters individually.
“Given the sharp divide between the two factions of the judgment creditors on who has authority to represent the Association and the disagreement regarding whom the Certificate of Occupancy should be issued (collectively or individually), the State Government has approached the Supreme Court to seek further directives and clarifications on both issues.”
Omotoso also confirmed that Judgment Creditors have been served with the application.
The statement reiterated the Lagos government commitment to comply with the Supreme Court judgment “once these two issues are resolved.”

This is a group of people who lost almost 5 million people from a total population of just 15 million in less than 3 years as a result of a British induced genocide to eliminate them for being obstinate over the resources of the east. Hated for their drive and guts, Nigeria turned the killing of igbos into a national pastime..

Barely 6 years after independence, the same group of people from the North and West that joined the East to fight for independence, went back to the same imperial Britain, to hire them back into the country for the ultimate carnage. In the process, the first black on black genocide, post independence Africa was unleashed.., setting the dangerous template that will be used in places like Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan, Angola Sierra Leone, Liberia etc.

A people who were so massacred, that almost every family lost a loved one , every structure including churches, markets and hospitals bombed! Chased out of the Army, Police and the civil service and barely allowed to participate in the economy of their socalled country afterwards, yet they're economically better off..

The only people whose property were declared "abandoned property" in their lifetime, their businesses wrecked and savings looted! Taunted and insulted even by the presidents of their own country, nthey never blinked. Totally marginalized and starved of funds while billions stolen from their soil is used to develop elsewhere..

YET..

They came out stronger, bolder and even more daring...
If Nigeria ever did anything to the Igbo man, it's the fact that by perennially haranguing him, the system created a special specie of black man out of him. A specie that is highly competitive, never takes no for an answer and willing to travel to the moon and Mars, just to make things happen!
You have no choice but to salute the god called Igbo

It's our history, and we have learn to live with it.
That history made us the force we are today,to be reckoned with.

"The only authentic identity for the African is the tribe…I am Nigerian because a white man created Nigeria and gave me that identity. I am black because the white man constructed black to be as different as possible from his white. But I was Igbo before the white man came. "~ Chimamanda Adichie

They have come a long way.
They have come a long way as a tribe and a race.

It was not meant to be a smooth one,but inspite that, they kept growing and blooming into the most successful and influential tribe in African and beyond.

A tribe of barely over 40 millions, occupying virtually every nook and cranny of the globe, doing great for themselves, both at home and in their host community.

Millions are scattered across the globe as Nigeria’s greatest and biggest exports to the world. From the Americas to Europe, from Asia to Australia, there is no continent of the world where you will not find an Igbo man or woman striving to eke out a living for themselves.
the Igbos are naturally endowed with the spirit of independence, industry, dedication, and ambition to make their environment and the world a better place.

They dorminate every areas of life, from education and literature ,to the music and movie industries,to sports , local and international politics etc.

With a highly sacred and respected culture and traditions, that have brought them this far, both at the local and international scene of life.
And also, with a great cuisine to keep them healthy and focused as they go about their daily endeavours.

As a Igbo man or woman, you have to be proud of your root.
You have a rich history and culture that will be told in thousands of generations to come.

Be unapologetically proud of your root.

PoliticsNavy, EFCC Reject Senate’s Bill To Criminalise Payment Of Ransom To Terrorists by IamV(op): 12:38pm On Feb 18, 2022
The Nigerian Navy and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have vehemently rejected the proposed criminalisation of ransom payment to abductors, terrorists and kidnappers to secure release of hostages.

The rejection happened, yesterday, in Abuja during a public hearing on Terrorism Prevention Act (Amendment) Bill 2021, which seeks to outlaw payment of ransom to secure the release of captives.

The hearing was organised by Senate Committees on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters; and Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes chaired by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, (APC, Ekiti Central).

Section 14 of the bill provides: “Anyone who transfers funds, makes payment or colludes with an abductor, kidnapper or terrorist to receive any ransom for the release of any person who has been wrongfully confined, imprisoned or kidnapped is guilty of a felony and is liable on conviction to a term of imprisonment of not less than 15 years.

Speaking at the public hearing, a representative of the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral K.O. Egbuchulam said instead of outright criminalisation, negotiation or payment of ransom, it should be subjected to security vetting.

Egbuchulam said: “It is suggested that the bill could make the negotiation/proposed payment of ransom to kidnappers or terrorists to secure release of hostages subject to the prior knowledge of ONSA/Armed Forces of Nigeria/Police for coordination

"It is opined that subjecting such payment of ransom to security vetting and tracking is preferable to outright criminalization.”

Also at the event, the EFCC, represented by the Director, Legal and Prosecution Department, Chile Okoroma, hailed most of the provisions of the bill but kicked against the prosecution of somebody that paid ransom, saying it should be narrowed down to those who received ransom not those that paid.
According to him, the bill on terrorism is well intended, but the issue of prosecuting those that paid ransom should be looked into and it should be narrowed to those who receive payment for ransom.

On its part, the Nigerian Correctional Service agreed with all the provisions of the bill including the prosecution of anyone that paid ransom.

According to Correctional Service, “we agree with the proposed amendment to this bill.”
In his opening remarks, Senator Bamidele who explained that the bill is designed to outlaw payment of ransom to abductors, kidnappers and terrorists for release of persons who have been wrongly confined or imprisoned, said: “The Terrorism (Prevention) Act, 2013 (Amendment) Bill, 2021 was sponsored by Senator Ezenwa Francis Onyewuchi (Imo East).”

EducationASUU: FG Sets Up Visitation Panels, Whitepaper Committees by IamV(op): 7:18am On Feb 18, 2022
Barely a week into the one-month warning strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Federal Government has taken a step towards resolving one of the pressing demands by the union.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, yesterday, announced the setting up of 21 panels to draft the whitepapers for the reports of visitation panels earlier sent to Nigerian tertiary institutions to review their activities.

ASUU had demanded the release of whitepapers on the reports of the panels constituted by President Muhammadu Buhari in April 2021 to visit 88 tertiary institutions across the country. It lamented that many months after the submission of reports to the government, the whitepapers were yet to be released.

The panels, which were constituted based on ASUU’s request, submitted their reports to the education minister in August 2021.

While receiving the report, Mr. Adamu, who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Chukuwuemeka Nwajiuba, promised that government would give adequate attention to the recommendations contained in the reports.

The union, after its two-day National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, began the four-week warning strike to protest the non-implementation of a 2009 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached with the government.

PoliticsMagajin Garin’s Death: Tinubu Visits Sokoto, Condoles With Sultan And Family by IamV(op): 7:04pm On Feb 15, 2022
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has visited Sokoto State to commiserate with the family of the late Magajin Garin of Sokoto (Head of Sokoto Caliphate Kingmakers), Alhaji Hassan Danbaba.

Accompanied by some white cap chiefs from Lagos on Monday, Tinubu described the late Danbaba as a man who devoted most of his life to the development of the Sokoto Caliphate and contributed immensely to the propagation of Islam in Nigeria.

The APC leader was received in Sokoto by the former governor of the state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, who led the delegation to the family house of the late Hassan where they offered prayers for the bereaved.

Speaking at the residence of the deceased, Tinubu expressed deep sadness at his passing, however, saying: “We can’t question Allah”.

He gives and takes. We pray that Almighty Allah recognises the many good deeds of Magajin Garin for Sokoto Caliphate, Nigeria and humanity and grant him Aljanna Firdaus,” he said.

At Sultan Abubakar’s Palace, Tinubu presented the royal father with a condolence letter in which he spoke about his personal relationship with the late Magajin Garin, acknowledged his kind contributions to the caliphate and the country and prayed Allah to grant him eternal rest.

Losing Magajin Garin at such a tender age can be painful indeed. It is even more hurtful that this passing came barely a year after we lost his mother, Hajiya A’ishatu, the eldest daughter of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello. I understand your pain and I share in it.

Magajin Garin was a fine gentleman and a devout Muslim who related well with all those who encountered him.

He contributed immensely to the development of not only the Sokoto Caliphate but also in the entire country. He also played a lead role in the propagation of Islam in Nigeria and beyond.

Your Highness, I would also like, through you, to extend by commiseration to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the immediate family of the deceased and indeed to the entire Saudana Family. My prayer is that Allah Subuhanan Watahala comforts his family and all those he left behind. May He also grant his soul Aljanna Firdaus. Amin,” the statement read in part.

The late Magajin Garin was the grandson of the late Premier of the Northern Region, Sir Ahmadu Bello.
