Car Talk / Re: Nigerians Should Say No To Accidented Cars by ib612(m): 7:48pm On Mar 15, 2010
@Onwan:

That's very funny - super glue and copper wire. You've got the explanation out and it's left for those that are less experience on this matter to learn.

If we are here to learn, let's read the good explanation that those of us at the front line of buying these cars have offered. Be aware that all this Vin numbers check will not do you the perfect good you seek in a car. That's the honest truth.

The buyers have every right to disdain accident cars because they are labelled salvage. They don't really understand the terms as they are used in car title. There are lot of technicalities involved. As Bizbooks rightly said, you'll find the good, bad and the ugly at the auction whether clean, salvaged or non-repairables titles.

I've seen a new car that has a bullet run through the glass and a door which was titled non-repairable by the insurance company. Can any one explain why i should not buy such car when it was going for cheap because it can't be driven again in N/America? All that needed changed was the glass and work on the door.

Let's ask questions and be sure of what we are selling or buying. There are lot's of deceit in this business also, be it from the major auction company or a major dealer that sells used or new cars. What it's said, is that the responsibilities to declare all that it's necessary is required to be done by the dealer and the buyer to take inspection as full responsibilities.

Well said, Femi.

Most people don't even understand that safety is what comes first in N/America. There's no short-cut.
Why do most people now prefer America specs to other regional specs. Even those manufacured from their home base e.g Benz from Germany compare to Benz from America.

Hyundai and Kia have met or supasses most of the so called Japanese cars in safety; may not have done so in quality.

Many people continue to mention these Chinese scraps - Geely and Chery. These are poor quality cars and only in 9ja they'll be marketted without any questions asked about their safety. Just as "pure water" corolla was sold to Nigerians some years ago. There was no single safety guard or quality in that corola in comparison to the America specs.

This is a forum where we get information on what we might not be good at or understand how some things are what they  are.

Criticism is good when it is well constructed. All crosses and measures for or against a position should be tolerated and judgement made on what we read and what others offer as advise.

I was once opportune to explain some facts to one NL member about these so called titles scripts. He had a limited budget and needs a car of his dream. I showed him some salvaged vehicles that he'll be able to afford with his limited fund. This car in question was a fender damaged. The car was a 1 owner car with a good history of maintainace. Till date the car performs very well.

What's important is for the buyers to ask questions and try as much as possible to deduce facts from sweet talking. Accessing a car because of the ascribed title is wrong. The dealers themselves are not immune from buying junks passing it over to the buyer as clean title because of their limited experience. In all sincerity they just want to give the customer what he asked for.

Simply put:
clean title may equal junk
salvage title may equal junk
irrepairable may equal junk

Solution:
check
test drive
seek advise

@Poster:

There's a difference between a new car and a used car. If you prefer you may buy a new car that has low quality and you'll find out that some of your friends that bought those tokunbo's are better of ( newer cherry compared to, even a 1994 accord).

Lastly, you might have read or heard that there's been recalls of many vehicles from good manufacturers like Toyota. That's to show you that nothing that's mechanical is perfect

Car Talk / Re: Nigerians Should Say No To Accidented Cars by ib612(m): 2:21am On Mar 14, 2010
The poster may be right on some issues he mentioned. Nevertheless, he has no experience on what makes a good vehicle. His conclusion is that any car that's branded clean title has not been in an accident. YOU MAY BE WRONG. There are thousands of cars that's been in a fatal accident and are yet branded clean title. The carfax mostly mentioned is not a 100% cover or prove of a vehicle history; take that from me.

Salvaged vehicles are branded as such on the recommendation of the insurance adjusters ( this are the people that looks at the cars after an accident, theft, water damaged etc). There are people who still drive rebuilt cars ( salvaged cars that have been repaired and met motor vehicle inspection standards) here in North America.

Salvaged cars might be a theft recoveries. I've seen where a theft recovery was actual branded repairable or certificate of destruction, this is even worst than a salvage. Whether a motor vehicle is rebuilt in America or 9ja, what's should be observed is how the car drives; frame, chassis, electronics control and engine, wise.

In all honesty, most dealers don't even know that a vehicle they are buying has been in an accident or not. This is because they see it as clean title, run the Vin numbers and there was not an accident history. I tell you that all is not right.

As someone suggested, if you want to sell a salvage car be honest enough to show the pix of the accident and the buyer will see that some salvaged cars are actually a good buy. May be just needs to change a fender or light and do the alignment.

There are "clean title cars" you see that were actually repaired the way a salvaged title car was repaired. Some were just buff or simply put, detailed.

Clean title car below.

When repaired you may never know nothing went wrong with this car

Politics / Re: Nuhu Ribadu 2011- Lets Start Hammering It Now! by ib612(m): 12:10am On Mar 03, 2010
When we talk about experience, under any guise as it relates to politic in Nigeria, it's well known that most of the so called Nigerian politicians are not ready to serve or lead. They prefer to rule. How do you reconcile growth with anyone that fails to lead the people to an expected "Eldorado's".

In any society, the are people who will be foolish enough as to become a prey of lying politicians. All that happened to El-Rufai and Ribadu is politicking on the wrong side.

Most of the accusations are ear say and unproven. You don't really need an experience in econmics before you become a president. That was a wrong assumptions. All that's needed is a personal conviction that you can lead this nation Nigeria to greater heights. All other inter-play are another thing entirely; they may work for you or against you.

When Nigerians become well informed, a time will come when questions are asked before a vote is cast. An example of this type of informed voters are the people of USA. Examine what happened to the way Obama was elected; not many blacks even acknowledge him a chance of winning the election, yet he did because they believed in what he can achieve and not what he looks or comes from.

Yes, i'll say we need a young, smart, fearless and honest Northern Nigerian ( that's if we continue to follow the PDP rotational presidency). Though the poster may not be articulate enough, he mentioned some of the tested hands i've noticed come from that part of the country.
Autos / Re: Never Say "this Car Is Clean" From Picture Evaluation by ib612(m): 11:02pm On Mar 01, 2010
Inspecting vehicles should be an important factor when buying.

Firsly, there are cars that were involved in an accident but have a clean title and the car-fax report may not mention the accident.

Then, there are some vehicles sold as clean title and have serious issues which may not be disclosed by the seller or noticed on mere pictures. Whereas, some salvage car may just be a mere theft recovery. The issue of clean title will not include some personal accident that was sold by the owner who have no insurance coverage or who refused to informed the insurance company of any accident.

Car may be clean and may not function properly. I noticed that majority of buyers on NL ask for lower mileage car. Lower mileage should not be a measure to knowing the performance of a car; inspection should. In North America, for example, if an engine is changed you are not allowed, by law, to reduce the kilometer cluster to reflect the new engine.

When buying a car, have a good mechanic inspect the engine performance. Also get a good autobody-man (panel beater) inspect the frame and do not pay much emphasis on the body been clean; they are replaceable, check the frame or chassis.
Autos / Re: ****^Preorder This Low Mileage 2000 Camry Le For 1.2m^^*CANCELLED*** by ib612(m): 2:19am On Feb 27, 2010
@Poster

Don't be shocked.

People still use, buy such vehicles in USA and Canada and are also approved by the motor vehicle licencing office as long as it passes all the requirements.

Even if a car is reported as clean title does not mean it has not been in an accident before. Also, a car titled as salvage may not be bad at all; it may be a theft recovery.

What's important is to let the buyer take a test drive.
Politics / Re: Britain Woos Babangida For 2011 Elections by ib612(m): 1:44am On Feb 27, 2010
Nigerians should know what they want.

It's not the Americans or the British that determines the futures of our children. They'll never allow the people of 9ja to become more prosperous than them.

Please, let's not think these people love 9ja more than their own countries. They are only playing for their own gains.

Anyways, i remember what happened to Abacha

At this point in time, a good decision making is necessary on the part of the Acting President.

If he fails to take control of the military and change the present security arrangements as well as the ministers, he'll end up in a very bad situation where his order on instruction will not hold any substance.
Politics / Re: Anti-Fashola Campaign On Nairaland: Could It Be Sponsored? by ib612(m): 4:28pm On Feb 25, 2010
@Gbegapro:

And on whose side are you?

Logic dictates that you are either for or against; your opinion is either for or against what you believe in.

For what you stand up for here, it may be concluded that you are also a paid agent of Fashola opponents. Is that true?

A matter was taken to court and a competent Judge decided that's a rubbish, not Fashola, how do you see that. He is in a better position than you and i to know what these allegations by a faceless group is all about.

In all he's accountable to all Lagosian. That is not to suggest he's answerable to all accusations. If infact you read through all of the posts that seems to suggest that Fashola is corrupt, you'll notice that the accusations in real fact is not corruption but that he patronise some individual to the detriment of others.

Performance is measured on what you stand for and you are able to accomplish. If the writers of the posts had suggested that he was not using the money on the projects at all, then it would have been a different thing.

Having said all that above, i should like to see Fashola become more accountable to Lagosians by publishing the names of contractors, the costs, and the projects.

Trust me, all these things you read and see as posts, for or against Fashola, have a political under-tone.
Politics / Re: The Cries Of A Fed Up Lagosian by ib612(m): 2:41pm On Feb 25, 2010
All these accusations are not really about performance by the governor of Lagos, it's all politics and been played out on the axis of tinubu instructions.

Ask yourselves, why now that 2011 is around.

If you are asking of the governor to make Lagos a city like Paris, you should first ask yourselves if that is possible to do after how many years of neglect by past governors. Then come to think of it, most of the bad roads belong to the federal govt. All other infractructure takes years to build; simply because they were not there before or were seriously in neglect.

My advice is if you are registered to vote in Lagos cast your votes against these tinubu boys. The governor should be allowed to do his jobs and not be accessed based of some frivolous accusations.

The governor is responsible for his actions and also accountable to all lagosians. He's not accused of non performance, the accusations are that he patronise some individuals. Why are these same people not asking the question on the issue of large commission paid to tinubu's company.

I guess the speaker, tinubu and the rest of them were not there when the previous 500, 600 days was marked.

These people do not even believe in democracy. I'm sure most people of Lagos State will vote them out come 2011 if not for the broken system and the corrupt voting system.

May be he's back.

Is he able or capable to lead Nigeria or his croonies are just making mockery of the system.

Lets take a look at all the past events, from the postings of the military to the insistence that The President must not relinquish power even though he's dying, then we'll notice a trend.

This country is headed for disaster. In other for this disaster to be averted we should scrap this North - South power sharing formular; it feeds and promotes: nepotism, tribalism, distrupt progress and development.

May God help us.

@Gbawe:

Your reasoning is abysmal.

And your suggestion is?

When you jump into conclusion that i'm an apologist because i stated my opinion, your argument becomes embodied on sentiments. The mere fact that i mentioned Madueke should not be interpreted as praise or an agreements to what he does.

We are discussing Nigeria here and not an individual. A process was started when an Acting President was confirmed; it remains therefore, that new steps begin where it's necessary to take one. All things are not expedient. You take a look at what's most beneficial at a particular time and configure a way forward.

Yes, it's a dilemma indeed. Many things were tried and rumours go round about what's going on. One thing is that we were told that The President is in S/Arabia. Is it right if nothing is done after so many failures were recorded by those who left to know the fate of the President returned without any positive position? Solutions are sort to defuse a tension and as it stands we need to exercise patience.

Any decisions, good or bad, probably have more than 100 million solutions/reactions in Nigeria context. Lets wait to see if we get something right this time.

Wao.

Is like most people on this thread don't understand what diplomacy is all about.

It's not a circus. It's how talented you are in convincing your host or otherwise how you desire a solution to a semmingly hard issue and the need to have it resolved on acceptable terms.

@Mikeansy has performed an excellent job in interpreting the hiding messages in Minister madueke's summary.

Take it or leave it, Nigeria is not a camp on her own.
Politics / Re: This Is The Reason Fashola Does Not Want To Be Probed - A Must Read. by ib612(m): 3:10pm On Feb 18, 2010
Many opinion on this tread need not be interpreted as a fact.

Facts can't be reach by sentiments or otherwise; just as pretence in the name of truth is an aberration.

When figures are thrown up and down without appropriate matching expenses, like workers pay, appropriate costs and the likes, it becomes a question of subjectivity.

In my own opinion the complaint is politically motivated. Why is it that all these accusations started the moment the governor questions the rationale of collecting such huge percentage from the revenue by an agency that all this worms come up?

Lets be reasonable, a house of assembly that is controlled by a "foreign" force can't discharged their responsibilities in all fairness.

These allegations should be forwarded to EFCC to probe and not the LSHA.
