The suggested idea is worth a trial.

Nevertheless, the issue of addresses, 9ja or any other place, couple with account information may become a gold mine for all these fraudulent individuals if it falls on wrong hand.

I should like to suggest that international passport, phone number(s), pictures and/or national identity cards (9ja or other counrty) should do the trick.

There is something to work with now; i mean the informations provided by Beecrofty.

It appears to me that this PTCCONSULT will not respond to any of these allegations. It's best for him to do something fast and repair the damage he had caused so many dealers on this forum.

Haba, this money aren't taken you any further than you are. It's just not worth it that you should disgrace yourself because of a few millions. If you have a problem with delivery timing, that is understandable and you could explain the problem instead of hiding

When are you guys going to grow up?

Why is it that majority of you throw away your God given brain at the mention of names and ethnics.

Majority of you will end up the way of this present people you are all condemning as a failed generation if you don't stop this useless utterances on tribes.

It's even appalling to want to dictate to a fellow man what he should say or do. General Ojukwu is entitled to his own opinion. When the  time comes he's not going to cast your vote for you on election day.
Politics / Re: Bbc, Olusosun And Nigerian Middle Class Hypocrisy by ib612(m): 6:54am On May 02, 2010
It's a shame that some people argue on nothing and think that they are making a reasonable contribution. It becomes easy to run pages over pages of criticism and no substance is traced to your level of participation of Nation building ( how often do you volunteer to making your community a better place; this instance - 9ja)

When you compare a well developed economy of over 200 years to a country of 50 years without looking at the history of the former, your argument becomes lopsided.

The most annoying is that you are not even counted when the time to electing a CREDIBLE leader comes; most likely had never voted in any election in 9ja ( now you tell me is my vote even counted). We are part of the problem even though we are not in power when we fail to get involve in our community development.

We may continue this pointless argument for centuries, yet never reach a conclusive answers as to how we want to look like in the next decade. If you see these things as challenges and not insurmountable problems, only then are we assured of moving forward.

The British had faced lots of problems before in their quest to Nation building ( has any of you read of the bubonic plagues), they over came by finding solutions and not arguments likewise the Yankees.

We should start asking ourselves what we can do to help our neighbours.
Politics / Re: Wole Soyinka Attacks Bbc Portrayal Of Lagos 'pit Of Degradation' by ib612(m): 5:22am On May 02, 2010
I'm beginning to wonder what the problem is with us in Nigeria. Is it that the act of reasoning is now history; not thought or learn in schools anymore?

When the documentary was first aired and the topic was on NL, my take was that the TITLE was misleading and mischievous.

Notice that the people in question were not doing anything that ran foul of the society; robbery, gun running, drugs peddling and the likes. Most of us has seen these places in Lagos and do feel sick about it. It follows that we accepted it as a form of labour; those people working to earn some rewards.

The mere suggestion of the title appeals to an already perceived hatred we have toward our politicians. Therefore, any thing we see or heard that shows the incompetence of these group of RULERS appeal to our anger. Deep in the documentary itself were unpronounced words and depiction of Nigeria as a rag. Why Lagos of all the other states in Nigeria?

I'm not trying to rationalize the problems as was shown. The focus is was is wrong. I've seen many of such documentaries overseas before; the same image was accorded the Philippines; not the title or something close to such title.

What Prof. Soyinka said is right and to the point. These same set of producers, if they are to make a documentary on vices in New York, will never ( that's an assertion) TITLE such documentary, let say: The killing City ( if you understand what goes on in NY city).

Please, lets try as much as possible to broaden our knowledge of world politics. Even though some of us are not opportune to travel round the world, make it a point of duty to educate yourself by listening to world news, search for world events ( not entertainments and sports alone).

Autos / Re: Pls help me with a VIN check; Acura Tl 2003 Or Honda Accord (eod) 2003 by ib612(m): 12:58am On Apr 23, 2010
The two cars you have for consideration are good cars, nevertheless, the place of use, as you indicated is, 9ja.

There are specific things you should look for when buying a vehicle for use on 9ja roads.

You should be able to look at the history of accords and acuras as they are valued by Nigerians. You noticed that there are more accords than acuras (1990 - 1997 and beyond on 9ja roads). The residual value also tilt in favour of accords.

One of the most important factor are parts availabilities. This is should be your major concern. There are more accords on the roads compared to acuras.

There are many problems associated to acuras; from the transmission to the electrical problems.

The car is going to be used in 9ja where most of the mechanics are familiar with repairs on common problems associated with accords. They may not be that good on acuras. It's generally known in 9ja as EOD, which means that any car that has it's own local aliases must be well known to the local mechanics; translating to the availability of easy diagnosis of any problem at every square inch where mechanics are available.

In my opinion, i'll suggest you go for accord.
Politics / Re: Is This Nigeria? I Was Moved To Tears By These Pictures by ib612(m): 8:39am On Apr 17, 2010
The contention between those for or against what was viewed or heard of this BBC documentary stems from the TITLE of the documentary and the poster's reference to NIGERIA; the documentary is about Lagos.

In my own opinion, it's malicious and misleading to title a dump site as part of a face of Lagos; it's not right. Yes, we acknowledge that those people working on the dump sites all over Lagos are expose or are not using necessary protective gear; that could be work on. There are lots of words the producer could have chosen for the title of the documentary and they deliberately chose not to do so.

Would they have made a documentary on N/York and title it, let say: The City of Killers?

The documentary may be in 20 parts or less, it matters less to me. I'm not in denial that more can be done to improve the lots of the people that work or make a living on the dump sites, it's also a reality that we've not acquired the necessary machines needed to really recycle our waste. We also know that these people do this job of necessity compared to some 20 years ago.

A reasonable title, like, The good, bad and ugly side of Lagos would have help to soften the furore generated by this documentary.

The entire documentary bring us to the reality of what an ordinary Lagosian goes through to earn a daily bread. It shows that those on the seat of authority could have done more. It climax on the fact that all is not well. It asks question about where you'll throw your face when you see these things; what can you do to help. I've seen many people in the Western world volunteer to do one thing or the other to help shape their society; they don't always wait for the government.

May be what's lacking is you and i fail to contribute our quotas to helping these people that are disadvantage. You don't need to give money. You can stop on your way to whereever you are going to engage them on how well they can well protect themselves. Donation of face masks and waterproof overall could be made.

After all has been said, what would you do? I bet 95% of us here will not even attempt to go near such place or identify with such people.

Politics / Re: Emir Blames Failure In Neco On English Premier League by ib612(m): 11:55pm On Apr 05, 2010
The Emir has only offered his own opinion. I'm sure that there were many others at the forum who would have done same. The governor deems it fit to organise such meeting in order to finding a way forward as it bothers on his own state; where are the rest of the governors.

My take is totally in support of what the contributor: # 59 said.

I should like to think that the rest of us contribute our little advise on how to stop these failures. It's not wise to curse another person that is opposite or contrary to our own view.

Exageration? your own opinion. No one stated that the roads are bad. Mostly, as used, is not to suggest the road have cratters or bad nor did i say the roads are bad.

Where you go and what you do at certain time of your driving in Lagos gives you a choice of what vehicle you use or do not use.

This truck is not designed "only" for the swappy, muddy terrain; it can be driven over all terrain.

They should stop buying titles ( salvage, clean, irrepairable or junk titles). They should buy a vehicle and not the paper.
Politics / Re: Lagos Begins Stop And Search Tax Policy. Slams N0.62m Tax On Luxury Car by ib612(m): 5:59pm On Mar 28, 2010
This issue of tax, as adopted by the people in charge, in Lagos is a total failure. It appears to me that the guys in charge are just using every means possible to harass and subject the people of Lagos and visitors alike to ridicule. They are using the machinery's of force to cajole or arm twist people into paying taxes.

Taxes are meant to be paid; yes. The ways these guys at Alausa are doing it is contrary to all norms and laws of taxation.

You can't tax a car. Taxes, levies, and fees are paid when a car is been registered. Individual taxes are not the same as user fees or levies on items such as cars, t.v and the likes.

The contention, as written by the poster, is that the guy at Alausa wrote to collect income tax based on their valuation of the car from the owner. A car you drive has nothing whatsoever to do with how your income is accessed. If i should buy a car for someone as a gift, whether it's worth 10k or 10m naira tells nothing if that person is actually earning income or not. They may be aged or retirees. It therefore follows that levies, taxes on cars are effected at the time of registration. We should all make bold our condemnation of the ways and means the government of Lagos wants to be collecting taxes. If it's illegal or contrary to the law of the state, it should not be enforced.

There were lot's of abandon projects everywhere and Fashola is rebuilding them one after the other. Some of you guys want the man to start building new structures when such doesn't make any sense. Besides upon what land is he going to do that?

The man has been accused of something no one, i repeat no one, can prove. If contracts was awarded some years back before he became governor, then value and prices have changed. Some of you guys have heard of prices of things going up or you are just pretending to be heard.

The choice of words been used by the poster suggests he knows something many Lagosians don't know. Let the man be reported to the EFCC backed with any evidence if he has committed any crime.

It's a beautiful city.

The governor is performing well and will do better things in the coming years.

He needs to look into the problem of double taxation and the menace of the LASTMA; they are becoming a bad and sore taste.
Car Talk / Re: Nigerians Should Say No To Accidented Cars by ib612(m): 9:15pm On Mar 19, 2010
I think Onwan is not feeling good about what George_D said about some dealers who  he claims to know that sell cars that are titled salvaged as clean title cars. That's understandable. I should also like to know those dealers. One thing is this, clean title can not be chaged to salvaged or vis-a-vis. May be George meant accidented repaired cars sold as non-accidented cars.

For clearity sake, salvaged titled may be clean or better than some of those clean title cars. The appendages of title is relative or more or less determined by an individual in his own capacity working for an auto insurance company. Afterall, i've driven a car in 9ja and entered a ditch that damaged one of the engine mount. I only changed the engine mount.

Anyone can mention that a car is clean, be it salvage or clean or non-repairable title. It does not changed the performance of the vehicle.

A clean title car might have been in an accident before and may not be declared so by all these auto-check. Trust me, there are thousands of them like that all over and not only in 9ja alone.

When you desire a car and you have a limited fund for that your dream car, a dealer with experience will tell you what you'll be able to get; be it salvage or clean title. What comes to mind is how best can money be saved. There are people who buy a Maybach salvage for $80,000 while a clean title may costs you 5 times that much.

The watch word is what type of vehicle are you buying for your clients. The use of the word accidented  or clean title cars have nothing to do with what you'll get as a quality used car. Becareful what you buy!

I recently bought a vehicle of $25,000 titled non-repairable (that's it can't be used in N/America)  that has nothing at all wrong with the performance of the vehicle in anyways, other than it has a bullet on a door and glass. This same car will costs $110,000 if it were salvage or clean title. And mind you all, there are salvaged titled cars that costs $200 - 300,000. Accident is a common thing on the road.

Clean title, salvage title or non-repairable title has nothing to do with what you'll get if the car in question is flawed.

I've seen a dealer on this forum declare the car with it's pix of the accident to an impending buyer; i don't see anything wrong with that.
Car Talk / Re: Nigerians Should Say No To Accidented Cars by ib612(m): 8:47pm On Mar 17, 2010
^^^Well said.
Car Talk / Re: Nigerians Should Say No To Accidented Cars by ib612(m): 7:54pm On Mar 17, 2010
@George_D:

This is the point.

Once a car is salvaged titled, whether it's bumper damaged only, nothing can changed it to clean title even after all the repairs are done. If such is done it becomes a fraud and its a criminal offence. They are ususally called rebuilt. It does not mean it's not clean.

Secondly, if a car that was in an accident and has a clean title, no matter how bad the accident was, will not become a salvage titled car even though the car was damaged. It remains a clean title car no matter how bad it may drive. It remains clean title.

Anyone that pretends to sell you a salvaged title car as a clean car, knowingly so, is a fraud. In the same way, if you demanded to buy a clean title car and you discovered that it was indeed an accidented car, you have no right whatsoever if you've failed to have a full inspection done.

There is where he dilemmas of the poster lies. He has little or no information about how vehicles are titled. He used a general terms: acidented. We all know there are accidents on the roads every single minutes and as such, we can't stop driving because that car is accidented.

Carefully consider what happened to Toyota and the likes, you'll notice that the recall bothers on safety and not on mere body panels. Those cars, even though newer, are worst than those accidented cars; they are salvage. Therefore, any accident that affects any of the safety equipment should be taken more serious. Body panels are meant to be changed over time; you can always drive with them. You can't and must not drive with a bad brake, chassis, frame or failed headlights or it's components.
