Politics / Nigeria Import Kerosene From U.S. by ibadantiti(f): 6:33pm On Sep 07, 2015
While the United States (US) has drastically reduced imports of Nigerian crude oil, following its growing shale oil production, Nigeria has emerged as the largest and second-largest importer of US kerosene and jet fuel respectively, according to data newly released by Energy Information Administration (EIA), the statistics arm of US Department of Energy.

Highlighting exports of crude oil and petroleum products by destination, February 2014, EIA shows that Nigeria imported 864,000 barrels of US jet fuel in February, rising from 292,000 barrels in January. In November 2013, a record 1.58 million barrels were imported. Canada remained the top US jet fuel importer in February, with 1.28 million barrels. After Nigeria, came Argentina with 376,000 barrels, its largest-ever US pull. Chile, Mexico and Panama were the only other countries with the equivalent of one cargo of US jet fuel in February.

Nigeria also brought in its largest kerosene cargo - 292,000 barrels - in February, and only its fifth-ever kerosene cargo from the US, including one each in July, October and November 2013. Canada took in 213,000 kerosene barrels in February.

Politics / Nigerian (adebayo) Jailed For Life In The U.k. For Murder by ibadantiti(f): 5:32pm On Sep 06, 2015
A Nigerian has been jailed for life for killing a teenager outside a So Solid Crew show 14 years ago.

Adebayo Ekun, 39, who was extradited from Nigeria in March, pleaded guilty at Luton Crown Court to the murder of Marcus Hall, 18, on 21 March 2001.

The victim was beaten and stabbed to death near Luton’s Atmosphere nightclub. Ekun had earlier pleaded not guilty to the offence.

He must serve a minimum term of nine years and 200 days.

After the sentencing, Mr Hall’s mother Icelyn Wilson said her son’s death “still hurts as if it had happened yesterday and I will never get over it”.

She addressed Ekun directly in her statement issued via Bedfordshire Police: “You did not just ruin one life, you left a ‘ripple effect’ which has impacted on everyone involved in my son Marcus’s life.”

‘Distinctive’ coat clue

Five men have already been imprisoned over the killing.

Seven men were convicted in 2002 and 2003 for their part in Mr Hall’s murder but two convictions were later quashed.

Following the sentencing, Bedfordshire Police revealed how Ekun had been traced because he had bought a “distinctive checked coat”.

He had been captured on CCTV in 2001 wearing the item and information led detectives to a designer clothes store in London where it was discovered the jacket was one of only nine sold in the UK.

Detectives raided his London home and found a flyer for the shop but he had fled the country.

He was eventually arrested in Nigeria in February as part of an operation involving the National Crime Agency (NCA) and the Nigerian authorities.

Det Sgt Mark Devine said Ekun’s conviction highlights the fact that if you “commit, or are involved in, serious crime such as this, then there is literally no place to hide”.

“Despite the passing of 14 years, Bedfordshire Police has continued the hunt for the final outstanding offender to this vicious and brutal murder,” he said.

“This group thought they were above the law but violence is not acceptable and we hope this gives a strong message that we are committed to do all in our power to catch those responsible no matter how long it takes.”

The abolishing of history from our schools is the worst thing that has happened to our growing youths. Lack of the knowledge of our history is really leading our youths astray. Our youths now argue so ignorantly and baseless even when the truth is glaring that you wonder what has gone wrong with us. A lot of violation of our constitutional procedure is happening and people are keeping quiet. If you talk, they will call you names and brandish you as ethnic and tribal bigot. Meanwhile a President that has intentional excluded a part of the country from his government is not a tribal or ethnic bigot. Our youths should try to read history to see that history is repeating itself. The reason why IBB an co overthrew Buhari is repeating itself. The man is manifesting himself again.

Also, those that see nothing wrong in excluding a region of the country with more than 50M people should read the mistake of former prime minister of Iraq Al Maliki. Al Maliki's deliberate exclusion of the Sunnis from his government against the advice of US and the West lead to the support of the Sunnis to ISIS which is devastating Iraq today. Buhari and his APC are making a big mistake that might finally erase the fragile unity of this country. He is towing a very dangerous trend by intentionally marginalizing the Igbos and people say all sorts of rubish that Igbos did not vote for him. GEJ did not win elections in most of the northern states in 2011 and he did not marginalize them. The Igbos made a decision based on Buhari's antecedents which others ignored and they are manifesting today.

Femi Adesina said last Friday that Buhari will balance his appointments in the future which means that the president agrees that his appointments were lopsided yet you wonder why some ignorant youths will take to social media to defend a wrong that portend danger for our country. We all love Nigeria and want good governance.
