Career / 6 Ways You Can Avoid The Pitfalls Of Procrastination by ibiboatais(m): 1:43pm On May 16, 2017
Procrastination is often chalked up to poor time management, but the sourcde of it runs deeper. It delves into our fears, emotions, and mental processes. Once we understand what really causes procrastination, we can find real solutions to help overcome this common roadblock.

Here are 6 ways to avoid the pitfalls of procrastination and get more done within the shortest possible time .

1. Define your goals.

When we don’t know where we’re going, uncertainty can cause us to procrastinate and keep us from taking measurable steps towards the achievement of something worthwhile.
Before starting a task, write down exactly what you plan to accomplish and your reasons for doing so. If you want “to learn more things,” clarify how and why. For example, you might decide to read 12 books about startups to learn more about building a company.

Further defining your goals and attaching specific targets reduces uncertainty and allows you to take the next step further.

2. Break your goals down.

Sometimes the size of a goal can make us feel intimidated . Instead of viewing a goal as one big milestone, take a cue from elite performers who break big goals into smaller, less intimidating tasks.
Read Also:How To Stay Motivated In The Face Of Challenges.
Schedule out small tasks and notice how accomplishing one can lead to the next. This method helped me read . Initially, the goal seemed daunting, but not after breaking it down it becomes easier.

3. Control your emotions.

Successful people don’t let their emotions dictate their work ethic or ability to complete a task. They overcome negative emotions and march toward their goals.
It isn’t realistic to wait for “the right mood” before you starting working. Sometimes you have to put your head down and work through negative emotions. If you find yourself feeling suboptimal, take a moment to acknowledge those feelings. Maybe you feel overwhelmed or uncertain. Define the feeling and then work through it.

In most cases, your attitude will improve when you feel the satisfaction that comes from working through a feeling and accomplishing a task.

4. Focus on the long term .

Thinking short term can result in putting unnecessary pressure on what is immediately in front of you and cause you to lose sight of the big picture.

To quote Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, “Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in 10 years.” Elite entrepreneurs take a long-term perspective that reduces stress in the short term and allows them to stay focused on executing over a longer time span.

If you do many small things right, over time you’ll build something significant. The entirety of your success doesn’t hinge on your next task, so avoid putting too much pressure on it and instead stay focused on your long-term vision.

5. Create and focus on productive routines.

Our brains rely on habit loops (routines) that dictate our actions. It’s a part of our DNA. You can’t fight biology, but you can examine your habits.

Without realizing it, we create routines that positively reinforce procrastination, like opening Facebook as soon as we sit down at our desks. Elite performers have the awareness and self-discipline to replace bad habits with good ones. You can do this yourself by understanding how habits work and creating new routines.

6. Always do something daily.

Whether you feel like doing something or not, you just have to do something. Commit yourself to doing little things that are in harmony with your goals.
When you ignore those little things, they turn back to hunt you. Habits are not developed overnight but through gradual proccess. So start developing those habits you want to ser in the long term by doing does little things that are in line with such habit.

I hate to see people celebrate politicians in this part of the world. For God sake, they took oat with the Bible or Quran to serve us diligently. If for instance, they took the oat in a shrine,in which as they go contrary they will die , would we be celebrating them for not killing themselves? Since they are under oat ,they are doing themselves good by fulfilling their promises. We should celebrate those who spent their hard-earned money to help alleviate the suffering of humanity. Eg Bill Gate.

The fact remains that we've lost touch with our original source. Therefore we don't see any value in staying longer in the house of God. Many don't know why they even go to church. If we value God and truly reverence him then we would value the time spent in his vineyard. Come to think of it,if you don't spend quality time in the house of God,where will you spend it.

The world would have been an horrible place, because people will think they can do anything and get away with it. Imagine a world where we know about the consequences of our actions and we still dwell in our evil ways. If only we can live with a conscious adherence to the voice of our conscience, the world will be a better place.

Nairaland / General / Police Commence Probe Of UI Law Student’s Death by ibiboatais(m): 5:46pm On May 04, 2017
The Oyo State Police Command has commenced investigation into the death of Miss Deborah Effiong, a 100 Level Law student at the University of Ibadan.

The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Odude, made this known in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Ibadan.

Odude said police investigation into the incident followed the report by the university’s authority.

He gave an assurance that the outcome of the investigation would be made public as soon as it is completed.

The University of Ibadan had, on Wednesday, issued a statement through its Director of Public Communication, Mr Olatunji Oladejo, announcing the death of Effiong.

Oladejo expressed the regret of the university management over the sudden death of the student at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

“Her sudden death, however, remains a mystery and it is in the light of this that the university management wishes to state that the cause(s) of her death are still being investigated by the appropriate authorities.

“Her parents have been duly contacted by the relevant key officers of the university.

“It is pertinent to state that by the tradition of the Queen Elizabeth II Hall where she was a resident, an event tagged “Freshers/Finalists’ Week’’ was organised by the Hall’s Executive Committee.

“The first day being Monday, May 1, 2017 featured ‘Health Day’ in the morning and ‘Movie Show’ at 7.00pm.

“Her colleagues reported that the deceased was seen at the hall cafeteria, the venue of the movie show and it was reported that her ‘normal self’ was seen at about 8.40 pm.

“Thereafter, she received a telephone call from a fellow; she left the venue of the movie show to meet the caller.

“The fellow has been identified after her death by the Campus Security Service,’’ Oladejo said.

He further explained that on getting back to the venue of the movie show, her colleagues stated that she suddenly became hyperactive and developed a strange attitude.

Oladejo added that her colleagues said Effiong danced abnormally and excessively in the cafeteria after the meeting.

“It was further revealed that she left the venue of the movie show and, thereafter, there was a bang, which her colleagues explained, she jumped from a dangerous position in the hall.

“She was later found by her colleagues in a seemingly helpless condition in the precinct of the Hall and immediately, she was rushed to the university’s health centre by her colleagues and porters on duty.

“She was later referred to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, for further medical attention where all efforts to save her life proved abortive,’’ Oladejo said.

Effiong was said to have died overnight at the tertiary health institution. (NAN)
Nairaland / General / Nigerian Lawmakers Most Dishonourable In The World - Gen. Akinrinade by ibiboatais(m): 5:22pm On May 04, 2017
A former Chief of Army Staff during the Second Republic, Lt. Gen. Alani Akinrinade (retd), has criticised members of the the National Assembly, saying they are a “bunch of clowns.”

According to the 77-year-old, the federal lawmakers “are the most dishonourable people I knew in the world”.

Gen. Akinrinade, who was also the Chief of Defence Staff between 1980 and 1981 under former President Shehu Shagari, said this in a video released by online medium, Sahara Reporters, on Thursday.

In the video, the elder statesman reacted with disgust at the viral video of the Aje Kun Iya song by Senator Dino Melaye.

Melaye had posted a video of the hilarious song online after he was cleared by the Senate Ethics Committee over the legitimacy of his Ahmadu Bello University’s Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography.

Gen. Akinrinade (retd) did not, however, find the video funny.

He said, “My state cannot afford a governor, that is the truth of the matter. And my country cannot afford the number of the so-called people in the National Assembly. We cannot afford them. That is why they can be singing empty… Aje ku iya ni oje. Our own senator. A man representing us.

“All these clowns are there and we are saying that we should not talk about them, we should call them honourable. They are the most dishonourable people I know in the world.”

Why on would a lawyer decide to defend such a man. This is a mess to the legal community. So because of money lawyers can sell their conscience. Those lawyers and their perpetrators will never know peace in their lives. The judge should give life imprisonment to both the lawyers and that goat in human form.
