HealthAvoid These Habits. Your Back Will Thank You by IbnIbrahim(op): 11:34pm On Feb 12, 2018
1. Sitting Hunched

Do it too much, and it can flatten the natural curve of your spine and damage the cushioned disks between the bones. This can lead to early arthritis and other problems. Gently stretch and move your head and neck in all 4 directions every half hour. To ease any pain or spasm, try applying an ice pack or heating pad to the area. Be sure to cover the skin with a light towel or cloth first. See your doctor if the pain won’t go away.

2. Eating Too Many “Treats”

Choosing the wrong foods too often can lead to inflammation and leave out nutrients you need to be strong. Your body needs lean protein, whole grains, fruits and veggies, and healthy fats like those from avocado and salmon to build strong muscles, bones, and soft tissue in your back. Be sure to get nutrients like calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D, too.

3. Sleeping on the Wrong Mattress

It should be firm enough to support your back, but soft enough to fit the shape of your body. Your ideal mattress can depend on how you sleep and whether you already have back pain. Want to see if a firmer one might help? Put yours on the floor for a couple of nights without the bedsprings. Some stores let you return a mattress, even after several weeks, if it causes back pain or other problems.

4. Sleeping on Your Back or on Your Belly

For some people, this position can cause low back pain or make it worse. But it can be hard to change how you sleep since it’s a habit you’ve probably had for a long time. It may help to put a rolled towel or pillow under your knees to keep the natural curve of your back. You also can try different pillow heights for your neck to find what’s comfortable.
Sleeping on your belly can strain both your neck and lower back. If you’re a belly sleeper and don’t want to switch positions, it can help to lay your head on a very soft pillow or none at all to keep your neck in the right position

5. Sitting for too Long

It stresses your back muscles, neck, and spine. Slouching makes it worse. Sit straight in a chair that supports your back, and set the height so your feet rest naturally on the floor. But no matter how comfortable you get, your back won’t like sitting for long stretches. Get up and move around for a couple of minutes every half hour to give your body a break.

6. Skipping Exercise

You’re more likely to have back pain if you’re not active. Your spine needs support from strong stomach and back muscles. Lifting weights can help. So can everyday activities like climbing stairs and carrying groceries. Low-impact exercises like walking, biking, or swimming can help protect the disks between the bones in your spine. Make it a habit for most days. Don’t be a “weekend warrior” who overdoes it and gets injured

7.Smoking

Do it, and you’re 3 times more likely to get lower back pain. It can curb blood flow, including to your spine. That can make the cushioning disks between your bones break down quicker. It also can weaken bones and give you osteoporosis, and it can slow healing. Even coughs from smoking can cause back pain. If you smoke, make quitting your top health priority and ask your doctor for help.

8. Overeating

Extra pounds can strain the bones and muscles in your back, especially if you gain weight quickly. Eat slowly so that your body has a chance to let you know it’s full. Pick nutrition-packed munchies and meals so you feel satisfied with fewer calories. So if you snack on cheese or chips, try eating some veggies and plain yogurt instead.

9. Overloading Your Bag[/b

Heavyweights can strain your back and tire out muscles that you need to support your spine. This can affect kids who lug many books. Your child’s backpack shouldn’t weigh more than 20% of their body weight. Large, padded, adjustable shoulder straps help spread the weight evenly. But only if you use both straps. Slinging your pack or heavy purse over only one shoulder can cause strain.

[b]10. Wearing High Heels

You may overuse muscles in your lower back and harm your posture and your spine, especially as you age. If you wear them at the office, you might bring a pair of walking shoes for your commute. Regular foot and leg stretch, like rolling your foot on a tennis ball, can help prevent pain and strengthen muscles.

Business5 Reasons Why E-commerce Is Not Thriving In Nigeria As It Should by IbnIbrahim(op): 3:10pm On Feb 07, 2018
Let’s face the fact- we, human beings love shopping. Everybody enjoys new kinds of stuff - from shiny new shoes to the latest sophisticated gadgets. Who wouldn’t like an upgrade from iPhone 6 to iPhone 7? Or who wouldn’t want to wear that new design everyone's talking about?

Formerly, shopping is done physically. You’d have to go to the market (or boutique, supermarket, auto dealership) and buy what you need. You’ll also do a lot walking, sweating, and sometimes swearing (in some local tongue) over the price of goods.

Technology is, however, changing things. With the internet, you can now buy new stuff and have it delivered to your doorstep - at the push of a button on your iPhone 7.

As a result, e-commerce has evolved over the years globally, meeting people’s need effectively and efficiently. In the US and Europe, e-commerce is thriving and plays an important role in everyday life. However, this isn’t the case in Nigeria and most parts of Africa. These are the reasons why:

1. Low internet Penetration and network unavailability

This is a major problem all over Africa. Internet penetration isn’t at a stage that will favour e-commerce. Also, internet connection isn’t always available due to several reasons. How would you order for those hot pants on Jumia if you can’t even access the internet? This is killing business. For everybody.

2. Trust issues with Nigerians

There’s this thing among Africans- we don’t have the courage to trust each other, let alone internet companies. There’s a scepticism among online shoppers. Most people would hardly offer to pay for goods up front. We often opt to Pay on Delivery, and then send the messenger back, with one excuse or the other.

Apart from this, a larger percentage of Nigerians don’t trust e-commerce firms to deliver the goods they promised online. A beautiful red robe, when delivered could look like an ugly red apron, and this damages the trust between consumer and e-commerce firms, hindering the business from flourishing as it should.

3. Low Purchasing Power

Times are hard and the masses are complaining. The purchasing power of the average African man is low when compared with his American counterpart. The income of the average Nigerian doesn’t allow much allocation for shopping, either physical or online. A hungry man doesn’t look for money to shop online, his primary objective is to quench his hunger. Shopping will come afterwards- if there’s enough money left.

4. Unfavorable Business Climate/Government Regulations

It’s not easy to establish or run a business in Nigeria, and the World Bank can attest to this. According to Tony Elumelu (CEO, Heirs Holdings, Transcorp, UBA, etc) Nigerian laws are too stringent for businesses to run smoothly. There’s an enormous amount of trouble (and bureaucracies) to face when trying to register a business in Nigeria, and once that’s done, there’s a huge amount of tax to pay too.

Apart from these, the cost of running a business in Nigeria is unusually high. Expensive power and transportation costs have negative impacts on e-commerce businesses, making business hard and tardy.

5. Poor Infrastructure

Nigeria still lacks adequate infrastructure to ensure timely delivery of ordered packages. You could order for the latest Tecno tablet and longer than the stipulated time for it to arrive. At the moment delivery is efficient only in select places in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.

Until these issues are addressed, e-commerce won’t thrive in Nigeria or Africa as it should. It will require a considerable amount of cooperation between stakeholders, government and Nigerians for the business to flourish.

What’s So Great About Them?

Tomatoes are loaded with a substance called lycopene. It gives them their bright red color and helps protect them from the ultraviolet rays of the sun. In much the same way, it can help protect your cells from damage. Tomatoes also have potassium, vitamins B and E, and other nutrients.

1. Immune System

Lycopene is an antioxidant -- it fights molecules called free radicals that can damage your cells and affect your immune system. Because of that, foods high in lycopene, like tomatoes, may make you less likely to have lung, stomach, or prostate cancer. Some research shows they might help prevent the disease in the pancreas, colon, throat, mouth, breast, and cervix as well.

2. Heart

Lycopene also may help lower your levels of LDL, or “bad” cholesterol, as well as your blood pressure. And that may lower your chances of heart disease. Other nutrients in tomatoes, like vitamins B and E and antioxidants called flavonoids, may boost your heart health, too.

3. Eyes

Tomatoes have substances called lutein and zeaxanthin that may help protect your eyes from the blue light made by digital devices like smartphones and computers. They also may help keep your eyes from feeling tired and ease headaches from eyestrain. And some research shows they may even make you less likely to have a more serious form of the leading cause of blindness in the U.S.: age-related macular degeneration.

4. Lungs

Some studies show that tomatoes may be helpful for people who have asthma and may help prevent emphysema, a condition that slowly damages the air sacs in your lungs. That may be because lycopene, lutein, and zeaxanthin, among other antioxidants, fight the harmful substances in tobacco smoke, which is the leading cause of emphysema. Scientists are trying to learn more about those effects.

5. Blood Vessels

Getting more tomatoes into your diet may make you less likely to have a stroke, which is when blood flow gets cut off to a part of your brain. Studies suggest that they may ease inflammation, boost your immune system, lower your cholesterol levels, and keep your blood from clotting. All those things may help prevent strokes.

6. Oral Health

Studies have shown that lycopene may help with the gum diseases gingivitis and periodontitis in the same way it may help prevent cancer -- by fighting free radicals. But eating lots of raw tomatoes can damage the enamel on your teeth -- thanks to the high amount of acid -- and brushing soon afterward can make that worse. It’s a good idea to wait at least 30 minutes before you brush

7. Skin
You know hats and sunscreen can help shield you from the sun. Well, the lycopene in tomatoes may do something for that, too, possibly in the same way it protects tomatoes. But you don’t put it on your skin -- it works on your cells from the inside.

The solution is to ban open drug markets, create coordinated drug distribution centers and ensure that patent medicine deals don't have access to such drugs. Such drugs are meant to be sold on prescription by qualified pharmacists who would counsel the patient and monitor him/her during the course therapy.

People only have access because they can easily walk into a patent medicine store and get the drug. The patent medicine man is not a professional and is concerned only on making profits. Let us get things right for once in this country for goodness sake!

Drug abuse never ends well, no two ways about it.
At the beginning, it feels cool, the user feels on top of the World, believing others who don't partake are missing out on a huge fun. Then after a while, the user finds that they are basically planning their lives around how to get the next fix. They get tired of it all; the terrible withdrawal symptoms, the negative effects on their social and professional lives, the effects on their finances. The whole thing isn't cool anymore. They literally become prisoners to the drug and it takes a lot of determination and will power to break loose. A lot really.

Don't let anyone fool you, it's a terrible state to be in.

Raising awareness about drug abuse is a good move but demand for and supply of Tramadol and Codeine will continue notwithstanding.

You may also consider working with the drug dealers association in markets and with NDLEA to block the over the counter sales of these drugs without doctors prescription.

All the highlighted steps are already being taken. Most OTC drug dealers won't sell tramadol without prescription now.

Good luck in your efforts.

What else do you expect in this kind of society?

The youths see them as role model. Perhaps that might explain some of the reasons why the youths are using those drugs.

Last week, I spoke to two CEOs of community pharmacies. They have been in practice for over 15years.

I asked,
What's the demand for tramadol?

They both replied, the demand is very high
One of them told me that, people are now asking for the 200mg and 250mg pack. Tramadol comes in 50mg or 100mg packs.

This means that 1000mg is no longer giving the effect they want. Therefore, they want to consume 2000mg/ 2500mg.

He now said, they take it because it makes them high.

Both of them actually told me that they had to stop selling tramadol, so when people come, they just say they don't have.

I worked in community pharmacies, it's all the same, young people looking for and taking tramadol or codeine in large doses to make them high.

You see some of them mixing 10 capsules of tramadol or 100mls of codeine in carbonated soft drinks.

When you ask them, why they take it?

The answer is always the same, to get high

Tramadol is an opioid analgesic used for moderate to severe pain. It is addictive. It should only be taken if prescribed.

Overdose of tramadol includes:
- Trouble breathing
- Slow or irregular heartbeat
- Seizures
- Coma

We are raising awareness about #Tramadolabuse and #Codeineabuse through radio shows, social media @NoToDrugAbuse - twitter, Facebook, church and school programs. Get involved today.

OP, do not use this picture to claim they don't cheat in the school, any course option with little number of students like this one always have the same sitting arrangement in almost every University
Regardless of the number of students in a department at UI, they will space you out even to other examination halls. However, those who want to cheat will do.
